Bro, I had a high end dash cam for 5 years with the same high endurance sd card and had no issues. Just recently upgraded to a newer model. Still no issues. Also, good dash cams will alert you if you have a failing sd card. I personally use BlackVue. They’re not cheap but worth every penny. Just upgraded from the 750x 2ch 1080p to the elite 9 2ch 4k front 2k rear. Get good sd cards and stay away from cheap amazon offers and you’ll be fine. Also, if you do this frequently, I recommend a body cam just in case you ever have a self defense incident. It will cover your ass. I personally just use a go pro with a chest strap. No self defense issues in 3 years of flex, but definitely caught some things on camera that people probably wouldn’t believe without the footage.
Added a few things to mine. First was the all-weather floor mats from Ford- [https://www.ford.com/product/floor-liner-allweather-tray-style-4piece-black-with-pony-logo-p2754176652](https://www.ford.com/product/floor-liner-allweather-tray-style-4piece-black-with-pony-logo-p2754176652) to replace the carpet kind it came with. Second item was one someone on here posted - [https://ev-vida.store/products/led-wheel-caps-set-of-four](https://ev-vida.store/products/led-wheel-caps-set-of-four) are they needed? No. Do I love them all the same? Yes. And finally, dashcam. I went for the Blackvue Elite 9, but I do recommend a dashcam.
I got the Blackvue Elite 9 (4K HDR up front, 2K HDR at back for those low light captures) with their battery bank. The Elite 9 is pretty good at pulling power when parked so might be overkill but was seeing the 12v issues being mentioned in here at the time so didn't risk it. The Blackvue battery only charges itself when the car is running and on a full charge can run for a year in park mode. Also, one of the quickest to wake up from impacts while parked at 0.8 seconds so you don't need to run in timelapse modes etc. On the downside, kinda expensive.
Blackvue Elite 9 2ch (4K HDR front, 2K HDR back) with battery pack. Not cheap but has sub 1 second wake up if your car gets hit to catch what happened so you don't need to keep recording going while parked. And with the stuff I was seeing about the MachE 12v battery I didn't want it drawing from there.
Use Yelp to find a local car electronics fitting company (stereos etc) with a high rating and they will generally do dashcams too. I had mine (front, back and battery pack) fitted and all cables hidden for $350 and I couldn't have asked for better service. I provided the hardware as I wanted the Blackvue Elite 9 for its specs.
I have Blackvue Elite 9 which has one of the quickest sleep to wake times on any dashcam (0.8 seconds) so you don't need to have it always recording while parked. Picked the 9 over the 10 as while the 10 has 4K front and back, the back one is SDR, the 9 is 4K HDR at the front and 2K HDR on the back so good for all light conditions. Paired it with their B130A battery which charges only while driving but can last \~1 year if left to run the cameras while parked. I don't think the battery issue is as much of an issue since Ford updates but didn't want to risk it.
What is your budget? Blackvue make the best (they service the professional and consumer markets) and they just announced a new Elite 10 model with front and rear 4K cameras which can run in parking mode for months without draining the car battery. They also have the Elite 8 (2K/2K) and 9 (4K/2k) with the same low power draw in parking mode. Not cheap, but they are quality items.
Thinkware q200 2CH is a low cost reliable 2k dash cam. Enough to show who had the green light, works well enough at night. BlackVue Elite 9 2CH is a high cost reliable 4k dash cam. Better picture esp. at night, better cloud features, support for larger SD cards. Lots of great option from both Blackvue and Thinkware in the middle. Viofo gets recommended here a lot, but they struggle in the cold, only support 2 SD card models, and even then require frequent formatting to ensure recording. Great features and video quality. RedTiger is a marketing scam. They've always paid for amazon placement and reviews there, and it seems were starting to see some of that in this sub )My cams 5 years old I've never posted before look a clip that's been AI up-scaled, or here's my cut and paste or AI review).
I use a Blackvue 4K dashcam with 2K rear second channel. It's connected to a Blackvue B124X battery to keep the dashcam operating independently of the car battery for up to 24 hours whilst parked. https://preview.redd.it/83k6uuucgtlf1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c362f0fb8a7a72b4aa2a8a37b6caa9ac552b0d9a
I've been using Blackvue for more than a decade now. Never any issues other than the dashcam eventually wearing out and replacing it with a new one. I'm using a two channel model 4K front, 2K rear, married to a Blackvue B124X battery to keep the dashcam running for up to 24 hours whilst parked. My other half has the same dashcam, but attached to a B112 battery which does the same thing, but only up to 12 hours - enough to cover the work day and a stop at the shops on the way home.
Currently using Blackvue. 4K front, 2K rear. Both cars.
We use Blackvue in both our cars - two channel models for front and rear cam. My car's dashcam is married to Blackvue B124X battery to allow the dashcam to run whilst parked for up to 24 hours, and my other half's car runs the same dashcam but on a B112 battery which is the same technology, but smaller, only allowing the dashcam to operate for up to 12 hours whilst parked.
Currently using a Blackvue two-channel model on our 2021 XV. Never had any issues. Dashcam is married to a Blackvue B112 battery that keeps the dashcam independent of the car battery and can run the dashcam for up to 12 hours whilst parked. https://preview.redd.it/tr3bu7gr8gbf1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=29a03356c531767120add2fceb922c5efee4258a
Same dashcam on our Outback but a B124X battery that runs the dashcam for up to 24 hours whilst parked. https://preview.redd.it/lpnq0dn19gbf1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3e6f04f3824f7604357bc26b041e0bdffad368c5
looking to buy a dashcam for my boyfriend as a gift. id like to stay around 200 but im willing to consider something more pricey. I currently have a blackvue with front and rear cameras and although I loved it at first, my rear camera went out last year and I dont love that it only saves videos in 60 second increments. I have been doing a lot of research on forums and saw a lot of people recommend viofo, blackvue and Garmin. but when I go on tiktok or Instagram a brand called red tiger is EVERYWHERE. is that brand reputable? is it a common thing to have videos save 60 seconds at a time? I have also read that having the front camera in 4k is important and the rear cam can be less?? idk im trying to make sense of things im not too familiar with. overall I just want something nice, not too bulky and reliable. any advice is appreciated thank you!
