I have a Garmin X310 + FitDVR which works great. Since it's wired through the Safety Sense harness it's super easy to install but does not provide constant power for parking detection. I can pull video from driving at night if needed but don't have any readily on hand as an example. https://preview.redd.it/n3w1sw9yv6ae1.jpeg?width=2399&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=332a893cd66c6ec69b8d6ed6bc815750d00ccec8 *(I am legally passing in a 55 mph zone lmao)*
r/GRCorolla • Dash cam recommendations ->I know 2 guys with them that have been really happy. They are still selling units. There are a lot of action cameras but I went down the rabbit hole and two issues hit most, battery life (I wanted at min 4 hours) and dashcam mode that was useful. I ended up getting the Garmin front (recently) and rear (over 2 years ago) and have been really happy. For me integration to make it easy and on every ride is key. I move them between bikes in 30 seconds too this way.
r/cycling • Does anyone make a "tiny" bike-mountable camera for legal/insurance purposes only? ->Just purchased 3 Outback Touring XT and put (3) Garmin X310 in all of them. It does not have a rear camera but boy is it clear. Do get one that has clear video. If you are using it for the reason people are getting a dashcam then getting details could make a difference vs a lower resolution camera. I don’t know if it is true but I heard that 80% of things used for a dashcam occur forward facing. About 10% occur rear facing and the last 10% not much is going to capture it. We have considered a Garmin mini for rear facing but not yet.
r/Crosstrek • Dash Cam Recommendations ->>dashcam preparation i think depends on if you want the porsche dashcam or a generic one. if you’re gonna get any other dashcam then this option is useless. It requires a bit more work but I’m running both a Garmin 4k dashcam and a Valentine One radar detector off my factory Porsche dashcam wiring. The actual Porsche dashcam is a POS. But I think the factory dashcam wiring is a 100% mandatory option on basically all builds, it’s way better than having to jam a wire into the A pillar for whatever device you want to hang up there.
r/Porsche • Feedback on GT3 Touring build ->Wrong. It’s more work but you can use any dash cam with the factory dashcam wiring. You buy the proper plug for the factory connector and then you can wire any camera to it with a 12v to 5v transformer inline. I’m running both a 12v radar detector and a 5v Garmin dashcam on my factory dashcam wiring. The factory dashcam wiring includes a negative wire, a constant +12v DC wire, and an ignition-switched +12v DC wire.
r/Porsche • Feedback on GT3 Touring build ->>Then stuff everything under the liner. You successfully spent more money than a professional installer would charge you for a clean install of something like a FitCamX. The FitCamX is a mediocre dashcam though. The point of getting the factory wiring is so you can run your choice of excellent dashcam without an installer having to use a stupid mirror tap or stuffing a wire into the headliner on your A pillar. Then you get a dedicated fuse and the cleanest possible install, and at $140 it’s among the cheapest of all factory options. I’m running a very good 4k dashcam and a V1 radar detector off my factory dashcam wiring.
r/Porsche • Feedback on GT3 Touring build ->I have a Garmin X310 and Mini 3. The newer Garmin dashcams with 4K recording are great but they are indeed pricey. Their app UI is some of the best I’ve found, it just works, compared to most of the other Chinese brands that can be clunky, annoying, and not as polished. That said, I would definitely agree with u/as_1409 and find some of the better well known and more affordable Chinese brands such as Viofo, Vantrue, Thinkware, BlackVue, etc. Perhaps later in the future once you have some disposable funds you can check out Garmin :) You can also save on installation costs by doing it yourself. It is not difficult. Just plan accordingly and have the tools you need. I’ve installed dashcams in all my cars. If you want a fun weekend project I can certainly help answer any questions you may have.
