I have a Nextbase 380GWX which is OE fitted in a Toyota and still receives updates. Aside from having no screen which is awkward, it’s okay. Doesn’t do picture snapshots, not that you can use those anyway. I previously had the model you had or similar, I’m thinking 622, in a car that predates dashcams and it was shite.

Does it have to be plugged in all the time? Just thinking of getting one for the rear window as my nextbase duel camera doesn’t get a good enough view out the back

Front and rear is the only option. Had someone drive into the back of my car, admit fault to me and then told their insurance company I reversed into them. asked his insurance company if they wanted to see the rear dascam footage I had (I didn't tell him I had it) and they promptly paid up and told me he would be blacklisted for making false statements. Got a RoadAngel in my new car but after two months have had that changed as it just drained the battery and now got a Nextbase front and rear camera after advice from multiple people.

Got a Nextbase front & rear installed and just plug in with the 12V cigar lighter socket.

We've had Nextbase front and rear for about 5 years now, no issues. Just remember to reformat the SD card occasionally.

Halfords hardwired Nextbase front and rear cams into my Citroën e-C4 with no problem!

Had a nextbase front and rear installed at Halfords, had no issues whatsoever. I also advise to get the hardwire kit, its £25£, and it connects directly to the fuse box instead of the 12v Socket, in case you need it. In my case, the 12V socket is used for my coolboxes, i didn't want to be disconnecting the camera when i need to use them. Think in total was about £250, i bought the kit on offer with a good discount. The installation was done properly and the panels were all lined up properly afterwards.
