I also got nextbase 422GW with rear camera and hardwired kit. Got a local garage to install it.

Nextbase 422GW; it has all the essential features without the subscription nonsense

I have a Nextbase 422 GW dashcam. Set up is extremely easy and it’s powered through the cigarette lighter/12v outlet. It has an app that’s easy to use as well. I highly recommend it.

They also made a bizarre design choice in making the red save button capture only 30 seconds of footage, with only 10 seconds prior to pressing. The older models used to lock the file prior/after/during the button, press so you’d have two or three minutes of locked footage. They claim that you can just go into the memory card after driving to retrieve clips before or after the 30 second clip…but that would mean after every couple of hours of driving before it gets wiped. For major incidents, fine, you’ll be clinging to that memory card and you won’t be driving away. For less serious things, that’s crap design. The batteries have been universally crap too, I had a 512GW that lasted okay but the 422GW in our other car won’t even turn on without external power. Will get a Viofo when they finally die.

I'm using a nextbase 422GW. Quality is good even in lowlight/night driving.

The amount of attention and awareness people have in their driving these days is shocking. Got a traffic light bump over the same period in mine, as well! Driver behind had a good near 2 seconds to react to an emergency stop I made (Reacting to the person in front of me stopping), and still managed to tap me. In both our cases, I’d suspect drivers are doing something other than focus on what’s in front. Anyway, been looking at a Nextbase front and rear (Probably a 422) as a result. I don’t really think these cams will really serve to do much in a stationary incident though, unless you hardwire them onto a separate battery so they can record constantly. The best you might get is a recording of the other car speeding off. Happened when my postie hit my parked Subaru. My other dash cam hardly caught it.

I would avoid nextbase personally - owned one for 2 1/2 years. Whilst the video and night quality is decent, the app is awful - it struggles to work and makes things very difficult to locate and view. After the first year the software started becoming consistently unreliable. My camera randomly stops recording, locks you out from controlling and restarts the camera and needs to be manually started most of the time, and keeps resetting the date so the files aren't in order (had a clip i wanted to look at that evening and when I got home I found it had already been overwritten as it had an early date on). For the price I wouldn't expect these issues and I don't have much faith that it will be recording when I need it most, and that's kind of what you need a dash cam for...

Yeah I heard they don't last the longest, but I guess mine hasn't "just stopped working" like a lot of the reviews I saw so I'm not in the worst situation at least. I'm away from my car currently but it's either a 322gw or 422gw I had mine fit professionally for £70 I believe. Went direct with nextbase as I got a better offer than Halfords. Would probably recommend the fitting if you're not handy as it keeps it looks tidy and ensures it works with start stop etc. Seems you were given a couple of other brands, personally would check those out instead. Saved a few of those comments myself as I'll be looking to get another when this becomes unbearable!

I have Nextbase HD front and rear cameras. Picture quality is good. They're OK, but after a year or so the internal battery fails. This means the time and date recorded start from "zero" every time I start the car. I haven't bothered to replace them. I've had this happen twice in both of my cars. The cost to replace batteries is about 1/3 the price of a new camera. DIY battery replacement is also an option, as they are soldered connections. I've hard wired them into the car fuse boxes. It's easy and cheap to do, plenty of YouTube tutorials. Definitely buy a rear camera too.

Toyota branded Nextbase unit, installed by dealer. Quality is only average but the install is very neat (no visible wires at all) and the camera easily clips in and out. There's a Toyota Dashcam app to view it or you can take out the SD card or the whole camera and connect to pc.
