Nice gift idea. I’d look at something clean and high-quality rather than cheap. [Viofo A229 Pro](https://amzn.to/4kxQHoP) is a great pick — excellent 4K video (front + rear), very good night footage, and reliable parking mode if you hardwire it. If you want something a bit more “polished” and plug-and-play, the [Nextbase 622GW](https://amzn.to/4asJtxI) is also solid with sharp 4K, GPS, and a slick app. Both are discreet enough to not ruin the interior and actually capture plates clearly if something happens.

Had 2 Nextbase 622 and they were shite plus crazy expensive. Purchased 2 70 mai front and rear cams for a quarter of the price and they are miles ahead. That said Viofo are excellent, if you follow Ashley Neal on YT he has discount codes.

What model do you have because I got the next base IQ after my 622 gave me trouble

I've got a 4K Nextbase that's been pretty dependable. A lot of dash cams have a problem and really hot weather, but that's not brand specific.

Nextbase are the worst dashcams and their customer service is just as bad. Had to file a chargeback for a refund with them. 1080P in itself is fine on a decent dash cam. I have a blackvue front and rear dash cam and it's crystal clear at 1080 compared to my 4k nextbase one

Got a Nextbase front & rear installed and just plug in with the 12V cigar lighter socket.

We've had Nextbase front and rear for about 5 years now, no issues. Just remember to reformat the SD card occasionally.
