Im on my 3rd Thinkware product. (I buy a new one for each new vehicle.) Just traded in my 2020 Honda Passport (it had the Thinkware U1000). Receiving my 2026 Passport Elite this afternoon at 3pm. Already ordered Thinkware U3000 from Amazon and should receive it this afternoon. I normally pay a local collision repair $100-200 to install the rear camera and hide the wires.

Here's a good video https://youtu.be/OWL5Um5Wi8s?si=zY04yshxKa2rWF41. I think I used this as a reference when I installed my Thinkware U1000.

I just installed Thinkware u1000 pro and I'm happy with it. It's $300 but 4K quality and does a really good job with reading the plates.

I have my U1000 hardwired with parking mode radar. This device also tells me about red light camera's, mobile speed zones and speed cameras.

*"ambient" cabin lighting* *Looks like the bridge of a Klingon battlecruiser under attack* But as for dashcams, any Thinkware product is a decent choice. They have a pretty wide selection of front and rear cameras. The U1000 set has been working just fine for 5+ years in all conditions of a *semi-arid Köppen climate.*

I would do that or the Thinkware U3000 or U1000 I just prefer the size and shape of the BlackVue. Both are top rated and can be transferred to any newer car you get pretty easily. I work at a dealer and we charge like 3hrs for install. But it could definitely be done by anyone with reasonable ability and time.

r/Volvo • I highly recommend the FITCAMX for anyone looking for a dashcam. Very easy installation that looks 100% OEM. Great 4K video quality too. ->

I just had installed a Powercell 8 to power my Thinkware U1000 two channel dash cam. The external battery takes the load off of the 12V.

There are no good ones, including the Escort one. Escort detectors are kinda problematic (slow response) even in their highest end Max and Redline 360c models, and the camera one is even worse. Better off sticking to a Viofo or Thinkware camera + a good detector like a V1G2 or R4/R4W or R8/R8W (though I'm not happy with Uniden's business practices now, so my recommendation is V1G2). Or if you want the least expensive RD that works reasonably, the RAD 700i. Viofo is having a Black Friday sale that starts on 11/15 I think. Other brands probably will too. I intend to get an A229 Pro when the sale starts, myself. If I were going for Thinkware I would probably go for one of the U1000 models but Vortex seems to recommend Viofo mostly so that's why I am going with them.

I bought Thinkware U1000 for the parking mode. If money is no concern, go with the U3000 and have it professionally installed. I had mine installed by Best Buy and so far so good.

You will have a difficult time reading license plates, especially at night. During the day, if the speed differential is great, like if you are passing or being passed, the license plate may not be clear. You’ll definitely want a 4K dashcam but I’m not aware of any which have a 4K rear camera. There may be some, I just don’t know. My last two dashcams have been the Thinkware U-1000 and the U-3000. The image quality is excellent. The hardware and software functionality allowing you to retrieve recordings is way better in the U-3000 than the U-1000. They both have a feature which will turn off the camera (parking mode) when the 12v battery drops too much. If you’re in an EV or just want the added assurance that the parking mode won’t eat up the cars 12v battery, you can add on an iVolt backup battery which supplies the camera power in parking mode.

i dont rate the blackvues i think they are pretty rubbish i would actually buy the thinkware series heres why. 1. Its cheaper than Blackvue 2. It has excellent smart parking features like impact, motion sensors, radar, etc) 3. excellent image quality day and night. 4. One thing i really really like that i havent found other cameras have is speed camera/red light camera alerts... as you drive up to one it warns you and tells you theres speed cameras ahead... even in places like tunnels etc... i've got a U3000, U1000 and Arc in my 3 cars.. yes i tried different models to see which is better.. much of a muchness.. the ARC series is great value for money ... and very good.. thats my honest opinion.. ive used Blackvues before. decent competent cameras.. image quality is ok not the best... but tends to be buggy as well... my Blackvue stopped recording for some reason... wasnt writing to memory card.. had no idea why.. and when i needed it for a incident... i realised it wasnt recording anything.... no amount of resets reflashing fixed it...just not a fan of blackvue

I have a Thinkware U1000 and use their own OBD port adapter in my 2025 3 TPP. Been wired for months with no issues at all. The camera however has software that allows it to shutoff at a wattage threshold you select. The same camera was also previously hardwired via fusebox in a civic for 5 years, but that's irrelevant. Just saying the camera is durable at least.

I like the Thinkware U1000 I have in my minivan. I specced my new CGTS w the dashcam wiring so today I’m fabricating a connector and installing a U3000. If you don’t have the prewire option you still have space in the fusebox that you can use. You can tap the mirror or use the cigarette lighter but for another couple hours of work or $300 to a shop you can give your dashcam it’s own dedicated circuit.

Currently running a Thinkware U1000 front/rear in my Tacoma and a VIOFO A329S front/rear in my Golf. I’ve used at least one version of almost each generation of VIOFO cameras since the A118. They’re good cameras and offer better value than other brands. Only one camera has failed prior to me replacing it with a more current/better camera. That was the Thinkware, which failed in the first month. It had a bad camera and was replaced under warranty. No issues since.

I'm pretty happy with my Thinkware U1000, video quality is really good with 4k in the front and 2k in the back, it hasn't had any temperature related issues since I installed it ranging from the heat of the Okanagan summers to the deep chills of Edmonton winters. I would recommend that you look into including a battery pack for it to prevent draining the car's battery if you get it hardwired because our winters are really hard on car batteries and adding a slow parasitic draw to it from the camera will hurt it in the long term using it when parked with the vehicle shutoff. Having a parking mode is helpful if you get hit in a parking lot. My main annoyance with it is the upload speed to my phone feels fairly slow due to the file size so having a micro SD card reader for your PC is a much better way of getting videos off of the camera.

Go to r/dashcams and/or blackboxmycar.com. That is where I went. I bought my own and took it to a local shop for the install. Make sure to check with the shop that they will install something else if you don't buy from them. I am running a Thinkware 4k front and 2k rear dual channel set up. I did have to buy a little mounting bracket off of Amazon to mount the rear camera, but there are plenty of options. Mine just had some small screws to help secure it. I am loving it so far and I hope to only need it to record drives though some amazing locations and not have to worry about a wreck again.
