I would return it personally! Not to say new is always better (could be worse). Also I don’t want to tell you to wait and something happens to your car within that time frame. So you make the best decision for you. I personally have waited to buy one until they added HDR and upgraded their night time recording. The U3000 has everything I want in a dash cam but had it had no HDR and horrible night time performance. So I was waiting for this model! I just hope it delivers. I also like the form factor of the Thinkware dash cams. I don’t need a mini screen on my dash cam. I’m not going to review footage from it so to me that’s not needed. I don’t think I’ll like the price though. I’m thinking starting price will be $699.99. Maybe $649.99 on discount. $100-150 price increase from previous model.

Dashcams can record in parking mode, but there's often limitations to this. Some work by constantly having video active and looking for movement within the frame - this drains your battery and you'll be lucky for it to keep working 12 hours. Some others like Thinkware U3000 use radar when things move to activate recording, and can last a few days. Some can work in a low power mode and only activate when vibration is detected - which often may not be activated with just a scrape. Even the best Dashcam image sensors currently available, Sony Starvis 2, might struggle to read number plates in the dark. Even if you were able to get their registration and thank them with proof of causing damage to your insurance company, it would still likely increase the cost of your insurance.

Experience with various dashcams and upgrading the battery in my car to the largest AGM type that will fit in the battery tray. (096 70ah). My car was vandalised twice and both times the dashcam, a Viofo A129, had stopped recording in under 12 hours. Replaced it with a Thinkware U3000 and now get a few days.

Im on my 3rd Thinkware product. (I buy a new one for each new vehicle.) Just traded in my 2020 Honda Passport (it had the Thinkware U1000). Receiving my 2026 Passport Elite this afternoon at 3pm. Already ordered Thinkware U3000 from Amazon and should receive it this afternoon. I normally pay a local collision repair $100-200 to install the rear camera and hide the wires.

I have a U3000 got it last week I might be trading it in for the blackview hopefully this will help you decide cause it would have helped me if someone would have told me…First off go to your App Store and look up THINKWARE reviews it’s absolutely terrible..THINKWARE is were you have to hook up your camera to watch remotely but here’s the catch.. Are you ready to add a hotspot to your phone plan I did I got t mobile hotspot 10 gigs $30 extra a month added to my phone bill but blackview you can put a SIM card in ready made camera no hotspot needed but you will have to pay for there service which I would have preferred but that’s just me…I didn’t know that you have to go actually turn your car on to look at footage if you don’t have hotspot I don’t know if all dashcams are made like that but the sucks to have to have your car idling to look at footage..Having your dash cam on radar mode it’s so mOn any recordings it’s like a needle in a hay stack to find what you actually looking for on

Great question! The Viofo A229 Plus is rated to handle temps up to around 149°F (65°C), but parking in direct sun for 7+ hours daily at 113°F can still push any dash cam to its limits over time. If you're not using parking mode, the cam will be off while parked, which helps reduce heat stress. But if you are, we’d suggest a heat-resistant cam like the Thinkware U3000, which uses supercapacitors and has excellent heat durability. Also, using a reflective windshield cover and parking in the shade when possible can really help. If you have any doubts or need more guidance, feel free to reach out via our Live Chat or contact support at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) or 1 (888) 978 6560. We're here to help!

I would disagree that the Fitcamx is the blanket "recommended dashcam". It might be the recommended dashcam if you want a dashcam that doesn't take up any additional windshield space. However, there are several MUCH better dashcams in terms of video quality and other features such as robust parking mode. For example, the Thinkware U3000

I think you can adjust the sensitivity of the features as well. Might be able to tone that down a bit. I park in the garage and also just started using the camera this past weekend and have been frustrated trying to get on the Thinkware Connected app. I like the camera, image quality, and features. Now I need to learn how to use them.

I just installed a Thinkware U3000 front and rear with a iVolt mini battery backup. I chickened out of the hard wiring for now and am charging the iVolt mini using the 12v plug in the passenger footwell (it charges while I drive for battery power use after I park). I park in the garage at night but wanted cameras for driving and parking around town. I have the hardwire cable and fuse taps etc but wasn't ready to take that on just yet and the space behind the fuse box cover looks tight for fuse taps but I know others have successfully installed it that way, so eventually I'll look to hardwire. I just did the install last week so still getting used to the setup and having some difficulty synching with the Thinkware Connect app.

I spent about $180 install + $515 w/ tax on a Thinkware U3000 for my 2025 Subaru Forester Sport. The app/dashcam interface is a little quirky but the video (day/nite) quality seems to be excellent. My installer says he uses the same dashcam on his car (I bought mine on sale from Best Buy).  Thinkware is on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/user/Thinkware_Dashcam/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button If you live in Vegas/hot climate, be sure to factor in ur dashcam performance in those conditions (I think a "capacitor" (?) battery supposed to handle heat best).

Yup second the thinkware it has radar mode, does have its limitations such as a narrow field of vision that will trigger it. However this mode uses half of what other dashcams use. Get a thinkware 3000 (~$450) and a dashcam battery (~$350) and this combo can last about a week or so. The competitors can probably only do about 1-3 days with a dashcam battery. However OP should forget about 3 channel. The more channels the more power it consumes. Get a two channel thinkware and install a battery pack and it’ll do what they want

FitcamX is nice because of the fit, but something like a Thinkware U3000 or Viofo a329 is going to capture better video. I am getting the A329. I don’t plan on doing any monitoring during parking, but it’s compatible with battery packs if you want that feature. It would probably be easy to run the wiring down the passenger A pillar and to the fuse box the secure the battery down there somewhere.

Depending on the dash cam some will eat power for breakfast. To know how long you can have parking mode for will depend on that, the condition of your battery and how many events get triggered. I tested the Thinkeate U3000, BlackVue DR770X Box, VIOFO A129 Plus Duo, and Akeeyo EYES AI dash cams to show how much power is used by each in parking mode. Watch for more info: https://youtu.be/52nfmtyEEQ8 I also am trying to use a solar panel to potentially have unlimited parking mode. THINKWARE U3000 just purchased a pair for both cars. 3 days after install was rear ended, was amazed at quality of video as I had not even installed the app or checked video before. Tech support was super good and explained how to transfer video to PC, as I did not want to lose anything by missing a step. The obo connection and parking mode efficiency help me chose after weeks of research. Called a couple installers and same model was in their top 2

Yes my crash was at night and rear camera which is only 2K had what I consider perfect night vision. I could clearly see her facial expressions as she plowed into the back of my car. I install commercial security cameras and license plate recognition is challenging with fixed 4k cameras with much bigger lenses and ccd chips with parked cars and fixed cameras. So I put little faith in Internet reviews claiming brand xyz can read license plates better than 123 so this did not influence my choice. No I have never done side by side tests in a controlled environment between brands which I never found online only options. I am happy with my choice. So buy whatever brand you trust, your money your car

Thinkware U3000: I just purchased two and can't be happier. As an IT guy, I spent a ton of time reading forums like this to narrow down the list. Then, I spoke with a couple of local installers and the two big online dashcam stores about installation and warranty-related issues and made my choice. Price was not a big factor in my decision, as I like the features and simple design. The OBO connector installation would be simple for installers, and the parking mode is energy-saving radar stuff. It is currently on sale for $479, which is about what I paid at the end of the December sale. It is also available online without sales tax or shipping. I had them installed on a Saturday in the middle of January, and on Tuesday, I was rear-ended. I had not even installed the app on my phone. I pulled out the memory card and put it in my PC. I was actually impressed with the video quality during my daily driving before the accident. The nighttime footage of me being stopped at a signal light, the car never slowing down, and the details of the driver's face were amazing. I install 4K 8mg security cameras for business and never thought my dashcams would be as good as they are. I called tech support to ensure best practices to save the footage since I had not had time to load the app, and they answered in minutes and were super helpful.

Thinkware U3000 with OBDII plug. we sell these and install them at my work all the time. Qualified installation absolutely required, wire needs to be routed behind all airbags, and wiring for rear dash cam on tailgate needs to be routed through the rubber boot and boot seated properly to prevent water intrusion and other future issues. We charge for about three or 3 1/2 hours at my work. any decent car stereo shop should be able to do it, and if they provide the dashcam they may charge a lower labor rate versus you bringing in your own.

You will have a difficult time reading license plates, especially at night. During the day, if the speed differential is great, like if you are passing or being passed, the license plate may not be clear. You’ll definitely want a 4K dashcam but I’m not aware of any which have a 4K rear camera. There may be some, I just don’t know. My last two dashcams have been the Thinkware U-1000 and the U-3000. The image quality is excellent. The hardware and software functionality allowing you to retrieve recordings is way better in the U-3000 than the U-1000. They both have a feature which will turn off the camera (parking mode) when the 12v battery drops too much. If you’re in an EV or just want the added assurance that the parking mode won’t eat up the cars 12v battery, you can add on an iVolt backup battery which supplies the camera power in parking mode.

i dont rate the blackvues i think they are pretty rubbish i would actually buy the thinkware series heres why. 1. Its cheaper than Blackvue 2. It has excellent smart parking features like impact, motion sensors, radar, etc) 3. excellent image quality day and night. 4. One thing i really really like that i havent found other cameras have is speed camera/red light camera alerts... as you drive up to one it warns you and tells you theres speed cameras ahead... even in places like tunnels etc... i've got a U3000, U1000 and Arc in my 3 cars.. yes i tried different models to see which is better.. much of a muchness.. the ARC series is great value for money ... and very good.. thats my honest opinion.. ive used Blackvues before. decent competent cameras.. image quality is ok not the best... but tends to be buggy as well... my Blackvue stopped recording for some reason... wasnt writing to memory card.. had no idea why.. and when i needed it for a incident... i realised it wasnt recording anything.... no amount of resets reflashing fixed it...just not a fan of blackvue

I have the u3000 and the viofo a329 (almost the same as 229). The thinkware has a better experience and probably more reliable and far better parking mode, the viofo has a worse but still usable parking mode and better night time video quality as it has HDR. The thinkware, while you can see a lot, is blown out so bad you can't make any license plates or signs out. Exactly like what you said. I personally prefer being able to see important details, and the viofo does a far better job at it. I run the viofo, and it's been working very well so far. I would go with the viofo since I care about image quality, but if you want the best of the best parking mode, thinkware is the leader.

I bought the thinkware u3000. This is because my vehicle sits for extended periods without driving - so combined with the thinkware battery I have 1-2 days of radar recording and once that battery gets low it goes into impact detection which should last many days. This for me is the best case scenario. If you drive your vehicle often and it doesn't sit - you have a lot more options.

I like the Thinkware U1000 I have in my minivan. I specced my new CGTS w the dashcam wiring so today I’m fabricating a connector and installing a U3000. If you don’t have the prewire option you still have space in the fusebox that you can use. You can tap the mirror or use the cigarette lighter but for another couple hours of work or $300 to a shop you can give your dashcam it’s own dedicated circuit.

I use a Thinkware U3000 front and rear camera. I used the ODB2 plug so the camera goes into park mode 30 seconds after turning it off. It seems to take 1 image a second or so to keep from running down the car battery. It uses radar to detect motion. The only drawback I find with it is that it catches A LOT of moments of nothing and turning on the car reports the number of incidents that are sometimes so high that I don't even bother to review. Cars passing by, people walking thru the parking lot. I guess if you're trying to catch something happening to your car you'll only really look when something actually does happen so it's not that big of a deal.

It's preorder, so you won't see legitimate reviews for a while. That brand is focused on providing a high margin accessory to installers rather than value for customers. They claim it's starvis instead of starvis2, and the resolutions listed are potentially problematic. You can get a much better cam for the money. Thinkware U3000 being an example, with the ODB2 power option simplifying the installation to the point if you can hook up a TV you can install yourself.

As a long time Blackvue user of a DR750S in my own car, I would say both are worth it. There are not really better and much cheaper options than the newer Blackvue models that have the same quality or reliability. The DR770x plus is going to meet the needs unless you're willing to pay a premium to get a bit more video quality, and if that's the case the Thinkware U3000 is likely to be a more attractive option and a bit less money. You can buy Thinkware anywhere and get decent warranty/support, but BlackBoxMyCar is the only place I'd by current Blackvue (or if you believe others, Viofo) due to warranty and support challenges in Canada. Visions typically has black friday and boxing day sales on older models. There can be decent savings.

Thinkware u3000 is the better choice if you're not using cloud services. Viofo has ongoing SDcard corruption issues, and currently has a bug where event video gets lost. Rove and Vantrue aren't great, and if you have problems getting support and replacements from Canada is a hassle.

They can be quite easy to install. The biggest issue is hardwiring but many of the top dash cams can now be installed with a OBD2 cable which makes install basically plug and play. Running the cable is not difficult either. With most vehicles its easy to tuck it into the vehicle's trim and roof liners. I installed a Thinkware U3000 and it took me less than 30 minutes and the cables are all well hidden. A pro installer would not have done any better. You can save yourself $100 or more by self installing. Myself I applied that $100 to my cam budget and got the top model instead of going with a cheaper model and paying for an install.

[dashcam comparison ](https://youtu.be/tJeK03JIOGA?si=KfL3PSV34nMCmXLV) That may help solidify your choice. I like the better video quality that viofo offers. However, the thinkware performs really well for parking mode, and the app is really polished. Btw if you are using a battery pack, you alleviate the recordtime hurdle from viofo. The powercell8 is ancient in terms of tech. What vehicle is it going into?

You don't want the ARC. The hanging design of the ARC/Q200 (basically the same camera) doesn't look good in most vehicles with larger mirror housing. It uses omnivision image sensors, which will not perform as well as the u3000s Sony starvis 2. The u3000 radar technology is actually great for parking mode. Both install the same, u3000 looks better on the window. U3000 depending on where you buy it from will have the OBD2 cable included, however it has been removed from the box as they are redesigning it for wide car coverage. If you are in the Toronto area and the unit doesn't come with one, I have a box full of those obd2 plugs and can give you one.

For $500 USD you can most definitely get a better camera than the stinger one. Thinkware u3000, viofo a329s, blackvue dr970x are all top-shelf camera systems. You won't need ADAS as your car most likely would have come equipped with all of those safety features.

I used Nexar for several years, but changed to the Thinkware U3000 because is has front and rear cameras. There is also radar for when parked. You should also look into a separate hotspot so it can send alerts to your phone.

I’m using a Thinkware U3000 w/ rear camera paired with the iVolt external battery that allows extended monitoring when the car is parked. It’s been great

I recommend Thinkware U3000 dash cam. Has front & rear cameras, and uses Sony’s Starvis 2 sensors for 4K or 2k resolution. It’s pricey but well worth the money to protect your IS.

Go to r/dashcams and/or blackboxmycar.com. That is where I went. I bought my own and took it to a local shop for the install. Make sure to check with the shop that they will install something else if you don't buy from them. I am running a Thinkware 4k front and 2k rear dual channel set up. I did have to buy a little mounting bracket off of Amazon to mount the rear camera, but there are plenty of options. Mine just had some small screws to help secure it. I am loving it so far and I hope to only need it to record drives though some amazing locations and not have to worry about a wreck again.
