Bear in mind the A119 would never be able to capture the plate if it’s not day time+ stationary, if it’s a hit and run guaranteed would not be captured, I went through thinkware x1000, A139 Pro( actually gd video quality no problem capturing plates on speed, but the 139 has a known cable issue that the rear camera might disconnect occasionally, switched to the newest a329s, cable issue is gone)
I have had 3 Thinkwares over the years on various cars, and they all work fine. Looking back at their site, it seems like they've added new features (smart integration) to a lot of their models since I've bought mine. I'm on my second F200(now Q200) since the first was in a car I sold, I like it because it's small, decent quality video, and I can download the videos to my phone. You can also configure the camera from your phone, unlike my X1000. The wifi connectivity is a little wonky when I'm in home wifi range, as they seem to compete on my android. I also have the old X1000. It has the built in screen but no wifi capability, so it's not as convenient to view the videos.
It's not a good solution. They overheat especially with lack of airflow, don't always give accurate GPS data for speed calculations etc, and they're significantly more expensive than dash cams. Not to mention, I think you would have to use GoPro Labs in order to get them to start recording automatically. It's just not built for dash cam usage. Personally, I have a Thinkware X1000 with front and rear cameras. Is the quality great? Eh, but it is good enough to read license plates etc. I've had it for around 18 months now and just moved it from one vehicle to my new car. It has been flawless. I don't disagree that the video quality is not the best but frankly, if you can see the image clearly and can read a license plate if necessary, the overall quality shouldn't matter. You're not using this footage for social media or cinematic quality. It's literally insurance evidence lol.
Go to r/dashcams and/or blackboxmycar.com. That is where I went. I bought my own and took it to a local shop for the install. Make sure to check with the shop that they will install something else if you don't buy from them. I am running a Thinkware 4k front and 2k rear dual channel set up. I did have to buy a little mounting bracket off of Amazon to mount the rear camera, but there are plenty of options. Mine just had some small screws to help secure it. I am loving it so far and I hope to only need it to record drives though some amazing locations and not have to worry about a wreck again.
I second this. They did a great job - picked up a Thinkware front and rear dash cam set.
I tapped mine into the power above the mirror. Different Hyundai, but same concept.
Thinkware brand. I don't know the model offhand, but it's a front and rear unit and works very well.
For the most part, dashcams have the same internals, so do your research. I'm sure there's newer videos, but I remember LTT did a roundup pointing this out a while ago. A few years ago I ended up getting a Thinkwear "brand" front and rear.
Had a Thinkware front and back setup for 5+ years now with no issues. I recommend them.
Thinkware from Canada, get dual channel aka front and rear. They have nice features like battery voltage cut down to save your car battery or parking/driving recording when hardwired.
They are but worth it in my opinion, especially the extra features they come with, like the battery voltage monitor I mention earlier
I got the front & back camera Thinkware dashcam from Best Buy and I'm happy with it so far.
