Vantrue - E1 Lite

I have a Vantrue E1 Lite that I wired into the power for the auto dim mirror. Had to take a couple panels off but it was quick and easy.

I couldn’t get the same VanTrue came to power on with the usb c ports. Did you?

The usual players are still top-notch and generally have good long-term reliability. Me and my mom run Vantrue E1 Lite, sure its only 1080p 30fps, but its more than enough for us at the moment. Their other stuff is amazing too

Get Vantrue element 1 lite, pretty awesome for $70

I’d look into the Vantrue E1 Lite. Clear video, works with USB, no hardwire needed. I’ve used it on long shifts and it’s solid for the price.

I'm using the Vantrue E1 Lite. It's compact and discreet. No hardwiring needed, just plug it in and it works. Video quality is solid and it stays under one hundred dollars. Great value if you want something simple.

The Vantrue E1 Lite typically goes for $72. It's front-only, but that's more than enough. I've owned/given away 4 of these and they're all working fine. I've heard good things about the VIOFO brand, too. Stay away from BlackVue. I've owned 3 of these, 2 had failed within 2 years. As for the micro SD cards, don't purchase them from Amazon! Lots of fakes there, and since they're intermingling inventories, you may still get a fake even if you buy from a legit seller. Buy these from B&HPhoto or Adorama.

I did the Vantrue E1 Lite with the Dongar adapter. It fits right up next to the mirror assembly so it’s barely noticeable.

Might be a bit over €60, but I’d keep an eye out for the Vantrue E1 Lite when it’s on sale. Super easy to set up and does the job well for basic recording. Great bang for the buck when you catch a deal.

There are a few companies out there who specialize in accessory mounts. Bulletpoint comes to mind first, but ultimately all of them cost a premium penny and the Amazon available knockoffs match knockoff quality; cheap. As a video camera operator I feel that I have a small edge in the fact that I know many of the vehicle specific accessory mounts available are based off of a common articulating arm structure used in the video field. This way if you ever want to remove the magnet you can simply take some fishing line and remove the adhesive and not risk breaking the camera base. Then you can re-apply new adhesive to the base and move on with life.* I hope my DIY project helps others. =)

I just got my short cables in and you are correct, the cam will not power up from the accessory tray USB-C port. Interestingly, it will also not power up in the lower console USB-C port either but it WILL power up with the old school USB port (and obviously the 12V Port). In a perfect world, it would be great to power it up with the accessory tray port, I instead routed my powering path to the 12V port in the lower console area. I got the Vantrue brand dashcam. They seemed to think as a photographer with this one as you can buy a polarizing filter for it to make sure whatever it’s recording is clean without glare. Also it was featured on the very popular YouTube channel “Unbox Therapy” with good praises which really helped legitimize my decision. I got the fitcam version I think it was and then a Vantrue dashcam mini that was $110-$120 USD. Works pretty well!

I have a Vantrue E2 (front and rear) in my 2015 Highlander and E1 (front only) in my 2018 CRV. I’ve had them for about 2 years now and have had no issues. Great video quality. Would definitely recommend front and rear coverage. The Highlander was hit from behind and the other drivers insurance company was trying to blame me. I sent the insurance rep a video of the accident while we were on the phone and she then saw things my way haha. Easy to install, took about 30 minutes.

I have an older Vantrue with the GPS base, records forwards, in cabin and rear, and can select which configuration you'd like. Zero complaints over 4 years.

I have a vantrue that captures front and cabin. I got it when i was driving my Crosstrek and could see my dogs in the back and it could see out the rear window. I really didn’t want to wire a rear one, not as straight forward as the windshield. Anyway, it’s 2k front and rear or 4k front only and has captured a lot of cool shit. Accidents, wildlife trying to commit suicide and it’s kinda fun to check footage after some spirited driving. I got my daughter the newer model that connects via WiFi and she loves it.

Front/rear facing Van True dash cam is what I used driving Uber on our ‘21 Sienna. Added one lookin out the back after being tailgated by a Peterbilt on I-80 in Pennsylvania. All I could see was chrome in the rear view mirror at 75mph. Easy enough to install and hide power supply cables. (Picture resolution roughly the equivalent of an iPhone 11)

Vantru and Blackvue are highly rated. I have one in one one of my cars but not the other.
