I have the Vantrue N4 Pro in my Tacoma and an N4 (non Pro) in my wife's 2025 Nissan Leaf. The Pro has wifi capabilities in which you can access the footage via the app. The whole setup is pretty easy, and I wired both vehicles using The Dongar adapters that connect at the rear view mirror (most newish cars have power of some sort in the mirror). YouTube was a good resource for the truck, but hardly nothing for the Leaf, so I had to put on the ol thinking cap. No need to do a hard wire if you don't want to, and it looks clean with no wires hanging. The Dongar usually runs about $30, just make sure you know what pin type you need. Even running the wires under the overhead liner for the rear camera is super easy.

I’ve been using the Vantrue N4 Pro 4K 3 Channel Dash Cam for a few years and have faced no issues whatsoever. It actually saved me recently from a hit and run with the parking mode, lady scratched the hell out of my door and it got her license plate. Only flaw is that it doesn’t upload to a cloud, to get the footage on it you either need to take out the SD card or be within a 6 food radius of it to access the files through the app on your phone.

1) Viofo A129 Pro 2) 70mai A800 SE 3) Vantrue N4 Pro 4) Qubo Hero Pro I have these 4 in my cars. My favorite app to use is Qubo, it’s very user friendly and it’s a breeze to set up and get it running. My favorite image quality is Vantrue, it’s pristine and read things super clear, day and night. My best VFM has to be 70mai tho because the Vantrue is nice but pricey and 70mai does 90% of the stuff for a fraction of the cost. Hope this helps ☺️ Edit: I would also suggest getting front and back. It’s more peace of mind. You’ll have more evidence and more angles covered.

I think I can say most cameras, even if they have Wi-Fi, still can be controlled and used completely "locally". For instance my Vantrue N4 Pro has every setting locally And can be completely used without Wi-Fi, but for instance, if you're trying to get video off, you could use the app and Wi-Fi to make it easier. So I would not necessarily discount Wi-Fi dashcams just because they are not going to use Wi-Fi/App

I use the Vantrue N4 Pro. Love it! I drive a Tesla, but like the crispy 4k quality of the road and 2k inside the cabin. I haven’t installed the third camera yet but it’s great to have audio inside the cabin, and the crispy road footage as a backup in case some shenanigans happens. Definitely recommend that one. I also backup every day to Google Drive also on a rotating quarterly basis. I then offload the footage to my hard drives for safekeeping at the end of every month.

Consider getting at least a 3 channel dash cam, like the Vantrue N4 Pro. It has an interior camera that can capture both inside the car and the side windows, which help cover the sides of your vehicle. 2 channel setup could work, but it usually only covers the front and rear, so if someone approaches from the side, it likely won’t catch it.

Haven’t had anyone throw up in my car (thankfully), but I did have a drunk passenger pass out and refuse to get out once. Luckily his friend was with him and ended up dragging him out of the car. If your budget allows, I’d definitely say go for the upgrade. I’m using the Vantrue N4 Pro right now — it has an interior cam and the front cam has a screen that shows live footage. I actually mounted it in a spot that’s pretty noticeable, and ever since then, passengers have been weirdly polite.

I love my vantrue n4 pro. Relatively small foot print for both the cameras. Relatively easy to download/format the card from the app. There's a learning curve, most of the settings are from the phone, but some fine tuning is required to do on the front camera. Can read a liscene plate at about 40 feet, daytime front camera.

It's best to get an actual dash cam. I tried using GoPros for dash cams and they suck. They overheat during the spring and summer due to direct sun exposure and placement away from front vents. This was with GoPro 9, 10, and 11, and DJI Osmo Action 2 which had similar issues; settings were 4K and 30fps. You also need to remember to turn them on, which seems like it would be easy to do, but it's easy to forget. I did a ton of research, reading and watching reviews online, and the dashcam that I got for my wife and myself is the Vantrue N4 Pro; it's a 3 camera, 4K front + 1080p + 1080p inside cabin and rear setup. The front cam utilizes the Sony Starvis 2 sensor, which is a 4K sensor that's larger in size than previous gen and can clearly pick up license plates at a close distance, and also offers better image capture at night. I would NOT pick up a dash cam that doesn't have the Sony Starvis 2 sensor, as smaller, lower 1080p front resolution, and previous gen sensors can have a difficult time capturing license plates clearly, and an even more difficult time recording at night. It's normally around $380, but you can find it on sale for around $250 on Amazon. Use something like camelcamelcamel to track prices and get it once the price curve hits a trough. Hope this information was helpful.

I have a Vantrue N4 Pro 3 channel camera system for both my car and my wife's. The install took about an hour with tucking the cables and wiring it into the fuse panel for power when the car is parked. They are awesome to have and even my immediate family members liked them so they purchased it and had it installed as well. You will need a $5 tool from an auto parts store to locate a proper fuse to wire it to and having a coat hanger to get it thru the dash is helpful.

The Vantrue N4 Pro has a rear mounted cam that plugs into the side of the front cam and has the option to not only turn off the screen, but also turn off the LED operation indicator light. I do not know if this also turns off the rear camera blinking LED. I got used to the blink and most of the time don't notice it. I'd turn it off but it's the only way to instantly observe if the camera is still working or not without handling buttons.

The important thing is to have one. When you start researching them, you’ll see enthusiasts on YouTube worrying about every little detail of resolution, how far away you can see license plates at night, how many cams it has, etc. Sure, that stuff is all nice, but it also tends to make you upscale your purchase to cover every possibility, and I’ve had friends who never made a decision because it all just seemed too hard. Don’t let the number of choices, and opinions, make you fear making a mistake. If you stick with the main brands, you really won’t go wrong. On features, just think about what you really need. In the end, its primary purpose is to document what happens and they all do that. Even a front-only camera documents a rear-end collision because it shows the impact and whether you were moving or stationary and proves you weren’t backing up. Would you like to have a rear camera? Of course. Would it be useful to resolve that license plate? Absolutely. If you can afford it, you may be happy to have those features one day, but one without will still do that job. Work within your budget, read reviews and get the best one you can afford without breaking the bank. Then install it and don’t read any more reviews. There is always something newer and better coming out. For what it’s worth, I have a Vantrue N4 Pro 3 and my wife has a Thinkware Q800Pro. The Thinkware model is pretty lions in the tooth by now, but it’s worked well, and the Vantrue is newer and also works well.

Skip the [Magellan DR50 ](https://amzn.to/4mYbDVN)for now. While the specs (4K IMX678 front, 2K rear) look great on paper, Magellan is a navigation brand and the dashcam community has almost no long-term reliability experience with it. Early reports also suggest a potential for lagging/overheating in warm weather, which is the last thing you want. Your requirement for the absolute best night vision (4K with the IMX678) under a $300 budget leads you straight to the [Vantrue N4 Pro](https://amzn.to/4mVACZP) (they have a prime sale right now). The N4 Pro is a proven 3-channel system that uses the superior Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 sensor for the critical 4K front camera, giving you the best chance of capturing plate details on those poorly lit roads. The whole kit regularly drops into the $250 - $300 range during Prime Day sales. It is generally very reliable, uses supercapacitors for heat resistance, and offers high-speed Wi-Fi to easily pull clips without removing the SD card. Get the N4 Pro and use the Prime Day savings to buy the necessary hardwire kit for parking mode.

Safety tips: Try to drive as much as possible during the day. The later it gets, the more likely you’ll encounter unreliable people (like drunk, etc.) As for dashcam, I use the Vantrue N4 Pro. It has front, interior, and rear camera, and the front camera has a screen so you can watch the footage in real time. Most passengers tend to act friendlier once they see the camera, which is an added bonus!

Yeah, overheating is super common. One thing I’ll say for sure don’t get a dash cam that runs on a lithium battery. I had one before, and eventually the battery started to swell up from the heat. If I hadn’t caught it in time, I swear it could’ve popped right over my head. Go for one with a supercapacitor instead. Way safer, especially in hot weather. I’ve been using the Vantrue N4 Pro for about a year and a half now. Never really “maintained” it or anything just letting it do its thing. When it dies, I’ll replace it. Simple as that.

Dash cam usually need to be wired for power, even if they have wifi, so they’re not truly wireless. Bluetooth isn’t common either since most connect to your phone through wifi. People keep mentioning the fitcamx because it looks oem. However, it struggles with license plate captures. It overexposes a lot during sunny days so it's shiny and makes license plates hard to read at times. Also blurry footage at night. It does a good job capturing video if all you care about i seeing the accident, but the purpose of the camera is to provide it to police and insurance. Its useless if the driver drives off and you can't even report the license plate. [This](https://youtu.be/UZrd7uc7iXM?si=gis3AtzA-oXhCsp1) video does a good job showing halos around lights at night. License plates are unreadable unless close up. Id recommend Viofo 229 plus/pro or the Vantrue n4 pro Edit* the fitcamx also lacks GPS meaning it cant show your car speed or location other things that may help corroborate your story in the event of an accident.

I have a FitCamX because they sell mounts to fit particular makes/models and it was really easy to install. I keep hoping that someone will come out with a 4 channel that will cover the left and right wings but otherwise, 4k cameras are going to be around for a while I think. My dashcam is 18 months old and still going strong. We have strong summers and winters but not crazy bad. I wouldn't look at a year replacement as a terrible thing although I probably would pick something different if it didn't last as long as I wish it did. When I recently had to recommend a dashcam for a different car that wasn't part of FitCamX's models, I sat and watched [The Hookup](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HswpRHu_X-k&t=32s) dashcam lineup video with the person and added my thoughts to the pluses and minuses. I thought the VanTrue N4 Pro was a great choice and helped install it. I'm more interested in their 4 channel model but I can see where the 3 channel inside the vehicle camera would be great for a 20 something who might have to deal with someone lying about them being on their phone while driving.

I have one. I tow a 40 foot 5th wheel, and i have it to produce evidence when I plow into the guy ahead of me because he cut in front of me leaving no stopping distance before he decided to slam on his brakes to try and get one more lane over to the right. People do incredibly stupid things when I'm towing, and I'd like to have the proof if/ when something bad happens.

I have an N4 Pro that I bought in January 2024 and already it’s broken, would not recommend it. The hardwiring kit that came with my order didn’t work so they sent a replacement and that one didn’t work either. Had to use a non Vantrue brand hardwiring kit and it worked. Then just last week the camera stopped turning on, tried unplugging it from the hardwiring and used the lighter port plug instead, still not working. Did everything customer support suggested and still not working. They said it’s a hardware issue. Have seen many other people face similar issues with Vantrue being unreliable.

Me and my wife have the Vantrue N4 Pro . It works great. I never had any issues, and installation was super easy. I have a GMC Sierra and used the hardwire kit Vantrue sells on their website. I can connect my phone to it seamlessly to view and download footage. Never had an issue or with quality or the hard wire kit draining my battery. This was the first dash cam I ever installed, and after watching a YouTube video, I was able to do it all on my one in under 30 minutes. My wife has a 2024 GMC Arcadia, and we haven't done a hard wire kit on her car as it's so new. Her vehicles dash came gets it's power from the car charging port. Edit: The dashcam has been installed on my truck for a little over 1 and a half years. Wife's cam has been installed for roughly 4 months.

I have had the Vantrue N4 for 3+ years now and it’s been great. I would go with the N4 Pro nowadays though because it offers wireless connectivity on top of the SD card. The other brand I’d consider is Viofo. When I was looking I weighed how many cameras (channels) it had and at what resolution in each mode. I went with 3 cameras. I also looked at the sensors (many are the same) and their angles. G-shock sensor was a must and thus it needed to be hard wired (which is relatively easy). I also wanted an SD card over a cellular connection, ideally I’d rather have both, but nowadays I would look more at one that has both the SD card and WiFi connectivity.

I just bought and installed the Vantrue N4 Pro: https://a.co/d/h9qR0T4 I also got the OBD port power cord: https://a.co/d/ar5dNB4 I’m happy with it so far, especially the power cord - it is designed to draw power for parking mode but turn off if the battery voltage drops below a preset level (and it has three levels to choose from). Running the cable for the rear camera did suck, especially getting it through the rubber boot to the hatch, but I’m glad I took the time to get it super tidy.

I'm considering the [Vantrue N4 Pro](https://www.vantrue.net/product/n4pro) with hardwire kit (for parking mode). Front, rear, and interior cameras. I used an older Vantrue for years and it worked well. The Viofo and Wolfbox seem too big for me. I'd like it hidden away. The Fitcamx is a clever design for the front, but the resolutions aren't as good from what I've read.

Vantrue N4 Pro has a 4K + HDR front cam, 1080p interior and rear cams, and solid night vision. With parking mode enabled (hardwire kit required), it covers most situations. Just grab a 128GB or larger SD card, and you should be good to go. As for the app reviews, it seems like a common issue across the industry..... Honestly, unless you’re frequently downloading videos, you won’t be using the app much after the initial setup.

I do uber and live in Texas so I had bought a vantrue n4 3ch back in 2020. The cam lasted me a little over 2 years before it started to crap out on me. When it started to go it would just bootloop or the screen would stay black. I don't know if it was the heat or that the camera would run 6-8 hours daily that killed it. Right now I am running a Viofo a229 pro on one of my vehicles and so far it's been working good. I like that it has 3 separate cameras that way if the main one breaks I can just buy that one and connect the others without having to buy the full set again.

Not worth it. Get a high end 4k dash cam. I have a 3 channel dash cam (vantrue n4, 3 channel) that was $350-400 NEW. Put in the time and labor to hardwire it ($90) and you have something WAY less expensive than the dealership charge. F that. Buy aftermarket and get what you need, a 3 channel dash cam. My Vantrue N4 probably took 5 minutes to read the instructions and connect up the hardwire kit, then 10 minutes to carefully route the wire from the top of the windshield along the roof liner, then a-pillar and down into the fuse box under my steering wheel. I was shocked at how easy it was to tuck the cables.

Phoenix here… I got a good deal on a Vantrue N4 so I went with it. So far, so good after a few months. They sell a heavy duty adhesive based mount for like $6 if the suction cup mount fails. The main selling point for me was that it uses a capacitor instead of a battery. That is supposed to be crucial for high heat areas. There are other models that have capacitors so that is where I would start the search.

I’m in Phoenix and have a VanTrue N4. I’ve only had it a few months so I haven’t been able to torture it yet but the main reason I got it (besides that I got a really good deal on it lol) was because it doesn’t have a battery but uses a capacitor instead. A model with a capacitor is a must for extreme heat from what I’ve read.

I had Vantrue N4 (#7 on list) and while it was great when it worked, it did indeed brick itself after 2 years of use, and it’s a known problem. I’m now using VIOFO (#2 on list) and I like it so far, and I love the fact that I can pull footage off the SD card straight to my phone instead of having to insert the SD card in the PC an extracting it. I also purchased Dongar Dashcam Power Adapter, which lets your power your dashcam via your rear view mirror without having to route USB cables everywhere. Only cable that’s really visible is the rear camera thats stuck on my back window.
