I installed this Vantru system in two of our cars, including the Gladiator. I really like it. I still need to mount the rear facing camera. I have a soft top and a hard top, so I can't just mount it on the hard top glass. I think I have figured out a way to mount the rear facing camera to the middle headrest post in the back seat. I'm gonna install it this weekend. Whatever you buy, make sure you also get a compatible hardwire kit (otherwise it won't record unless the truck is running), and a quality 256 gb memory card. I have the **A229 Pro**. It is an excellent camera. I have the 2 camera version (front and rear). Another model that is also good is the **Vantrue S1 Pro Dual**. It is considerably cheaper, but the front camera is just as good. The rear camera is one step down in resolution - but it is probably good enough unless you want to read the license plates of cars going by. If you are in the US, they both happen to have big discounts today for the Cyber Monday sale on Amazon. I recommend you get a 2 camera setup. Getting rear-ended is the most common collision. Especially in winter. The negative in getting a rear camera is that you then have to run the wire from the front unit to the rear. It is very doable; you will just need to get a little plastic tool to pry up the interior panels so you can hide the wire. There a lots of YouTube videos showing how to do it. It will just be time consuming if this is your first time. (Important tip: Never run a wire *in front of an airbag* \- always behind.) Another thing to work out in advance is where the cam is going to get power. The options are different for different cars. See if there are videos that show how to do this on your specific model of car. The biggest decision here is choosing between a power source that cuts off when the engine is turned off, versus one that is on all the time.
The dashcam is tricky in the CX-30 because all of the accessory fuses and connections are in the engine compartment. Everything in the cabin runs straight to the battery (including the USB ports, unless that changed for 2025). I deal with this by setting my dashcam to go into a low power parking mode where it only wakes up if the car is hit. (Since my car is in my garage, that is unlikely.) That sleep mode is deep enough that it hasn't affected the battery - though it might if your car sits undriven for many weeks at a time. I ended up getting my power from the OBD2 port under the driver's side dash. It is the computer port used for diagnosing the car, but it is only used when the car is being serviced. It is much easier than trying to tap a wire or fuse. Most of the big name dashcam manufacturers make a OBD2 wiring kit as an accessory - but make sure they have one before you choose a particular model. Here are some good choices that I considered. (These are all 2 camera models because you are far more likely to be rear ended than for you to hit something in the front.) In descending order of capability they are: * VIOFO A229 Pro 4K * Vantrue S1 Pro Max * VIOFO A229 Plus
Vantrue S1 Pro Dual 1440P Dash Cam Front and Rear w Starvis 2 sensor. It’s been a great camera. Get the polarized lens cover, the Vantrue fuse power, Samsung industrial SD card and make sure to run the cables behind the airbags.
Blackvue is premium, but definitely overpriced. Viofo is great for reliability, but I agree the app is not super good. [I got the Vantrue S1 Pro Max after reading this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/dashcams/comments/1luh6dy/vantrue_s1_pro_max_is_the_probably_the_nicest_cam/), and it’s been the most user-friendly functional app out of all the major brands.
One of the rare days the sun is out. The dash cam‘s Ai recognizes motorcycles as pedestrians lol Setup : Vanture S1 Pro Max (main unit) setup as a rear cam. HDR turned on. Platepix turned off. Exposure set to 0.3. Aftermarket CPL filter attached.
it’s actually the main unit. I have another v12 outlet in the trunk, so I installed one in the back as well as the front. Amazon had a sale back in early October where you get a single unit for less than $120.
It’s a great camera for the price. especially for 4k.
Agreed. That’s from the VanTrue S1 Pro Max, which is a dual 4k system. [This post convinced me to order one. ](https://www.reddit.com/r/dashcams/comments/1luh6dy/vantrue_s1_pro_max_is_the_probably_the_nicest_cam/)
6 years and 4 years in Arizona heat for my A119 V3 and A129 Pro Duo, respectively. Still going strong. OP, [this post convinced me to get a VanTrue S1 Pro](https://www.reddit.com/r/dashcams/comments/1luh6dy/vantrue_s1_pro_max_is_the_probably_the_nicest_cam/), which is a dual 4k system. Only had it for about 4 months but I will say the app is way better than any other dashcam I’ve used.
