My a119 v2 still working since 2017. Some reviews are from competitors. I only read 3 and 4 star reviews. Those reviews tend to be real users.

View some of the actual footage of the Toyota OEM dash cam. The 1080p quality is horrible, especially if you're looking to grab a license plate in an emergency. There are plenty of better high-resolution dash cams out there. I second Viofo A119's. I've had my V3 for a few years now with zero issues. It's 2K, but there are plenty of details. I run a separate dash cam for the rear as well.

Viofo A119 V3, had it for over three years, no issues. I run the older V2 in the back. I stay away from those dual ones as they either overheat and die prematurely or the recording can be a hit or a miss.

A119 V2 Purchased on Amazon Aug 22 2016. The battery that maintains the date no longer works, so I no longer have the correct date and time. Otherwise, working perfectly

You are misunderstanding, it does not have a battery for regular operation. It only has a date and time battery. This camera uses capacitors for the video recording capabilities. It uses a tiny coin cell, similar to the way an old desktop computer used a tiny coin cell to maintain date and time. This is the tiny clock battery in my a119 V2. The two green cylinders are the capacitors which allow this camera to work in extreme temperatures, both cold and hot https://ibb.co/3W91Lhc

I absolutely love my a119 V2. It has served me very well, and is still serving me well today. If I was to replace it, I would buy the A119 mini 2... That's the one I currently have my eye on as my likely best replacement.

personally my expectations for a $100 personal electronic is quite low. particularly one that is left to bake in the car. When i bought it, I felt two years was the goal. My viofo A119 v2 is 6 years old now. I think capacitor rather than battery helped. I haven't had any of the issues you describe. the 3M tape was annoyingly strong cause i mismounted it the first time, had to use floss to saw it off to re-mount it in the right place. Any electronic is going to have some bad batches. I think viofo's reputation is quite strong. And its what i'd look at first when its time to upgrade. I can understand being gunshy about a camera that did you wrong though. just relaying my own experience.

I'll second viofo. Have their basic $100 one for years across 2 cars and a second unit in the work van. Bought them off Amazon on sale and they work well, image quality is good during the day and acceptable at night. It has GPS speed and voice recording and can be hooked up to your battery for parking recording as well if you can be arsed buying the extra kit (I did for my first car). Blackvue is probably the best, but comes with the commensurate cost.

I had the same idea, but ended up not doing it for mostly the same concern. I ended up putting in a Viofo 119, and used an 11ft right angle usb cable tucked under the edge of all the trim, down and around to the outlet in the center console. I wanted the "practically invisible" installation of the fitcam, but other than the little loop of cable coming up into the outlet, it's very neat and tidy. And from what I gather, the cam I went with is a much better camera anyway, for less money.

I currently have the Viofo A119 just in the front of my Tucson. Direct hard wired installation was very easy. Very happy with the build quality and video resolution, also good in low light. Has done well for a few years now. My next purchase will be the Viofo A229 front and rear package. If new to installing by yourself, check out ChrisFix on YouTube, guy knows what he's talking about and is completely honest. https://youtu.be/lQtZF0g51Ak?si=CpOOT-ayirqEJyFj

This is the one I use, as well. It's been doing the job, but there have been occasions where the unit doesn't begin to record when the vehicle is started. Thankfully, you can see this happening because the red REC led light blinks rapidly. Turning it off/on again seems to rectify it. It hasn't happened for sometime, but it was a concern.

I’m successfully using Viofo A119 and this cable on my two Toyotas https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D2D78KMJ?ref=emc_b_5_mob_t Other Redditors reported success with this one as well https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CZ7QJVHC?ref=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_H76099TX42XDAEK2XCE3&ref_=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_H76099TX42XDAEK2XCE3&social_share=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_H76099TX42XDAEK2XCE3&starsLeft=1&skipTwisterOG=1 You just buy this cable (12P type C), open the lane assist cover, connect this Y cable in between the lane assist connection, and with that, you have a powered USB port right in the middle of your windshield. Then just install the Viofo cam or anything else needed and connect it there. Done. Simple as that. No hard routing in the A-pillars etc. It’s the same method FitcamX uses, except Fitcamx is pretty bad quality compared to Viofo. Viofo always alerts when the recording is not working for whatever reason, FitcamX stays silent so you can easily miss recording on accident.

If you're picking up a new model, I believe there's a dealer installed Toyota dashcam option. Otherwise the VIOFO A119 is pretty cheap and highly rated as a dashcam. It's pretty simple to tuck the wire into the headliner so it doesn't hang down to the power.

In 2015, I bought some shitty thing that I just looked up in my Amazon history. KDLinks it was called. It was a piece of crap and it fell off its mount and I ran it over in my driveway. After that, I spent like $500 on a Waylens via kickstarter. It was one of the first with OBDII connectivity. It was pretty slick and had awesome overlays on the video, but the mount was absolutely rubbish so the videos were all jittery and shitty. Then I bought a cheap VIOFO A119 and it just worked. So I bought an A129 Duo for my wife’s car. And another A129 Duo for my commuting car. And recently an A139 Pro 2ch for my new car. After 6 years on the oldest one, they are all still working flawlessly.

Viofo. Class leading image quality. Class leading longevity. Only middling price. The 119 is an excellent camera. I’ve had several of them, and a couple of 129. There’s a 329 series now, which looks good, but I doubt its image quality scales with its price. That’s the downfall of almost all dash cams.

Viofo A119 Is what I used to use, but when I got my 2022XLE I decided to f it, went with the factory installed dashcam. Works great, no visible wiring, enclosure looks like it’s just an extension of the rear mirror and I don’t notice it’s there…granted, it was much more expensive (one-time expense for the life of the car). But, I didn’t have to hook it up to the internal wiring myself and it activates when I hit a big bump, or someone walks near my vehicle when I’m gone, or any time it thinks there might be ‘an event’ regardless if the car is on or not…and I can pull footage wirelessly or with the card.

I used a viofo a119 for a long time. It was a good camera, but I don’t think I ever got parking mode to work properly. It was nice because it had a screen and a really low profile. I’m now using a BlackVue DR770X. It’s more pricey, but I think the quality in every way is a little bit better. The parking mode works really well and my mini can run the camera for several days maximum before the low voltage cuts off. Although I don’t like doing that anymore because it does seem hard on the battery.

Yes, you're out of touch. VIOFO A119 are very good and about €120 online and that's as cheap as I'd go. You get what you pay for, anything cheaper won't capture the detail at night or won't survive the harsh life just inside a windscreen. You've seen the shite people are doing on the roads, it wouldn't take a scratch for your insurance to jump twice that much every year.

I also recommend Viofo. I've been using the Viofo A119 for years without a single issue. Between friends and family, I know over a dozen people with the Viofo cameras and no one has had an issue. I even handed my original one down to my parents and it's still working after 7-8 years. I upgraded from the A119 model to the Viofo A129 Duo Plus when I got my Bronco to get a rear camera and wifi. I really like it, but the rear cord just barely had enough length the way I routed it. The A129 Duo Pro has a longer rear cord. I have the camera to the right of my mirror along with my EZPass. I tucked the wires into the head liner, down the A-pilar (be sure not to bring it across the air bag), under the glove box, and plugged it into the 12v in the center console. There was extra wire for the front camera, so I used a small zip tie under the glove box to keep it out of site. For the rear camera, it was more involved. I didn't want to run it down the top since it would cross the airbag, so I ran it down the A-pilar, tucked it in the trim under the front and rear doors, then up the C-pilar and to the rear glass. When mounting the rear camera, make sure you open both the rear hatch and the glass to make sure you have enough slack.

For mine it was, yeah. I know some cameras need a higher power output than the .5A typically provided by in-vehicle USB ports, but at least in my CX-30 with my Viofo camera, everything works fine off the OEM ports. The camera is just powered over USB-C, so it'll take pretty much whatever input so long as it's enough juice to run. In fact, I actually couldn't even use the cigarette adapter since in my 2021 model it's always powered even with the car off and will drain the battery overnight if left connected, while the USB ports shut off automatically after about 5 minutes.

I installed a Rexing dashcam on my '23. Not happy with it. Crappy app is mostly useless, doesn't work as intended and hardware loses settings every few weeks and resets itself to factory settings even though it is hardwired to the fuse box. On my other old suv I've got a Viofo A119 installed in 2016, 8 years ago. No problems with it. Glad you got a Viofo unit, you should have no problems with it.

I have a Viofo 119 (cant remember which), which I have had for a few years now. It has been very reliable. If I was going to replace it, it would be with another Viofo, but a later 2 channel model. Whatever you decide on, get a capacitor model rather than battery. The MiVue I had kept overheating (hot car, hot environment) and although it was really good, I gave up in favour of capacitor.

I also have the viofo A119. Someone just ran a red light and totaled my car on Thursday. The only complaint I have about the Viofo is it doesn’t have an internal battery so I couldn’t plug it in at the scene to show the cops, and since it doesn’t have WiFi I couldn’t get it on my phone. So the unlicensed, uninsured driver who lied that the light was green, only got two citations instead of 3. The cops told me it was now a “civil matter” and didn’t want the footage emailed to them. So I will be upgrading for the front view and moving this cam to my rear view, since it’s easier to determine fault in a rear collision. The footage is helpful for my insurance, I have uninsured driver coverage, but ultimately I am fucked in having to replace my car and put money I don’t have towards a new car because of someone else’s stupidity, so I am still in the bitter “ruin their life” stage of things and would have loved for them to get another citation for running the red light. The fines for not having a license (max $200) and not having insurance (max $400) are not enough.

I've been using the Viofo dashcams for over 10 years. They're as reliable as any other brand, affordable, and I have no reason to switch to another company. I put tens of hours into finding the right kind of dashcam. Viofo A119, or the A229. Since the market crash of 2009, auto insurance scams went up 1200 % within 2 years  and with the increased cost of everything now, I can only assume that number has gone up. Even organized crime is involved, staging multi-vehicle crashes. EVERYONE needs a dashcam. If someone calls the police on you and it's their word against yours, you might lose in court. And not just traffic court. You can be charged criminally ( depending on that person's "story" ). If that happens, it will be months of stress, thousands on a lawyer  and you still might lose. No license to get to and from work, thousands in fines, sued civilly, and angry for 10 years with much higher insurance premiums. This is a worst case scenario, but it happens everyday, all over the world. ## Whenever there's an incident, save the recording on your PC incase someone tries to blame you etc. Dashcams re-record once the SD card is full, so buy the largest SD card that the dashcam can handle., and format the SD card in the camera when you first put it in and reformat the SD card every couple of months to stop any bugs from popping up. No dashcam is "very" reliable, which is why I run 2. 2 out the front and 2 out the back. I recommend fishing the cord through the headliner at the top of the windshield, then down the side inside of the rubber seal by the hinge, then under the dash and back towards the engine, all the way left, then have it come forward. That way it's not too susceptible of getting snagged on somebody's bag etc. There are tons of YouTube videos showing this method. This is all I've ever used.

Viofo A119. I've been using them for several years. They're very good. Just get an SD card that they recommend. Some SD cards don't work well in dash cams, even though they're fast cards. Also, format the card inside of the dash cam, that's very important. Also, every month or two reformat the card again. There are a lot of hot and cold cycles inside of a car, resetting everything in the dash cam, keeps bugs from cropping up.  You can get one that has a small camera that you mount on the back window. They're quite affordable, and very reliable. I did a boatload of research several years ago, and even now, there are none that are more reliable in that price range. Even ones two and three times more expensive, aren't really any clearer in the video, and not necessarily more reliable either.

They should be able to do it. It's easy if you go slow and tuck the cable out of the way. I run the cable where the roof meets the top of the windshield, then down the passenger A pillar { the side of the windshield }, then straight down, to get to the underside of the glove box { make sure the glove box can open and close without the cable being affected, and that it isn't in the path of the vent down there }. I use Gorilla tape and never had a problem in 10ish years. Format the SD card in the dashcam every couple of months, to stop bugs from popping up. { No dashcam is "very" reliable, but there are good ones out there. } I use Viofo A119C. I replace it every 2-3 years because of all of the heat in the summer, and all of the cold in the winter.

I've been using the Viofo A119 dash cam for nearly 10 years. It's very reliable ( as far as dash cams go, they don't last forever because of the extreme heat inside of the vehicles in summer, and the extreme cold in winter, mixed with humidity ). I switched mine out every 3 years or so, just so it doesn't fail unexpectedly.  Get a quality SD card, and format it inside of the dash cam. Also, reformat it every couple of months or so, just to keep any bugs from cropping up.

**Make sure** whatever dashcam you buy has a **capacitor and NOT a battery.** In the summer the interior of cars can get well above 120° and **cook the battery**. A capacitor will survive, no problem. The same for the winter, the **batteries fail in the constant, deep cold,** capacitors don't. **Viofo A129 Plus Duo, or A229, or A119 are all very inexpensive but quite reliable { as far as dashcams go }** \- I've done a lot of research into dashcams. **EVERYONE should have them. They can save hundreds of thousands of dollars, years of stress and keep you out of prison.** Insurance fraud has sky rocketed since the 2009 economy crash. Elaborate schemes can cause injury and death, but it can also net the fraudsters a ton of money. I have been using Viofo for about 10 years. I replace the camera's every 3 years or so, just so they can be as stable as possible. I replace the SD cards every 2 cameras { 6 years }. **Make sure you get the biggest SD card the camera can hold { so you can record many hours, in case a complaint is made against you the following day etc. }. AND get a SD card manufacturer that Viofo recommends**, or you can have problems with recordings. { I never have }. Also, if an "incident" happens, even if it's minor, copy the few mins before, in case a police officer shows up a week later { your footage would have overwritten that footage by then } **Make sure you reformat the SD card INSIDE of the camera once in awhile.** Sometimes dashcams jam up and fail to record or shut off during recording and reformatting the SD card can keep this from happening.

I've had good luck with the viofo a229 4k. Their cheaper model, which I think the a119, seems to be pretty decent as well though not quite as good video quality. In either case, I'd keep the microphone turned on, and if you witness an accident instinctively shout out loud the license plate number. Odds are it's going to be difficult to read on the video, especially at night Ditto and not cheaping out on the SD card. In fact, I probably just buy the viofo card. The heat and constant rewriting tends to kill the cheaper cards

I bought the Viofo A129 plus, directly from viofo.com when it was on sale. I used to have a Viofo A119 on my 2017 Tucson, hardwired, but i didn't really use the parking function. The night time recording is what makes the difference between dadhcams and I would suggest you get one with a Sony StarVis **2** sensor. Regarding wiring, I did not bother with hardwire in my 2025 Tucson for two reasons. One, the fuse box is reeealy tiny and tight and the fuse taps would stick out. And two, since the car gives me **4** USB-C charging ports, I just used a right angle adapter to connect the camera's OEM USB cable to one of the ports in the front. It's really unnoticeable. Two things I would steer clear from, is suction cup mounts and cameras with white or IR LEDs... all they do is light up the windshield at night and render the footage basically useless.

I have had 4 different dash cams in four different vehicles and only one fail. And it started failimg because of the way it plugged in to USB. i'm guessing over the years it just kind of jiggled loose. tape was holding it together .I got rid of was because the software stopped working on android 13 because it was never updated. That was a vantrue but it was still working. I have a Rexing now and when I lost the rear camera somehow (when moving car to car) they actually sent me a new rear camera free of charge. That was some really impressive customer service. The A119 in my wifes car and Kenwood in my truck are the original ones I stuck in there years ago and I still working fine.

My A119 has six years on it in the hot Arizona sun. Only recently had a change the SD card. Camera still works perfect. I’d say go with either the A119 mini or the A229 plus. Both have the Starvis 2 sensor which really helps with night time. [The A119 Mini 2 is cheaper](https://www.amazon.com/VIOFO-STARVIS-Control-Parking-Supercapacitor/dp/B0C5MVB7NX?crid=2Y2ELQBTX901F&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.5nyPp72DnMI_ODE51ynTBjocCh5dIwi3KchnQREBKgUJP-ZLqBgCZzPlt53DOLk-60MJ-4WUMLNu8Rtn8Ap3AQuDawNvEUmlQWvEx-tv5DWgde1IJwTokeceWbv9aHWF3oGkVbnGoBVdFAZXoFUl8_HACYVQO3M3zQt8nfpyENW5tO7IC-_1Ahyo-mfNrP7bvDCKgBaSK-5vFjoXRdw82hB_-cuuFYA5EXKwOosDW6o.ZGFZD2Z7S5EEYzUktjWbe8S03pRz_2zT7Pj6z41Bj2U&dib_tag=se&keywords=a119%2Bv3&qid=1716994238&sprefix=a119%2Bv%2Caps%2C263&sr=8-5&th=1&linkCode=ll1&tag=lfttscl-dbc-20&linkId=0cc083c017bca6aaecc9d50227b55d37&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl) and 2k resolution...which can marginally do better image quality. But it’s only a front cam. It’ll be easier to install though. If you’re looking for a dual cam then, [the A229 Plus is the way to go](https://www.amazon.com/VIOFO-A229-Plus-STARVIS-Ultra-Precise/dp/B0CKX14L34?crid=ODOCM20VAXM7&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.zPIWU7n-bytu1xxkTnuc2EyTGeeEdaXMTGYIwRIO215reF0iK25fC6AbS9LG-cr_xKgOQ5Z51A7yqwuTHFHAE5P_rShDvDQ_pp98f8-O5WiFIMPcxo7XQXkbN6NM-OXoFpCpsuvQt1xpKXT2MIn6yt6WoWsW0W9GK32xr-C1pvBXlLkUeNbMwOSmOfl8U_PzojCab3mjRYKUpaiP1gntsg3MLIRZJqojR-0t31IceLk.N_m—R9zWtiv3zwSf8q6q18csSdtThNsIctSbvBM-ds&dib_tag=se&keywords=VIOFO+A229+Plus+Dash+Cam+Front+and+Rear%2C+Dual+STARVIS+2+Sensors%2C&qid=1730008188&sprefix=viofo+a229+plus+dash+cam+front+and+rear%2C+dual+starvis+2+sensors%2C%2Caps%2C169&sr=8-3&linkCode=ll1&tag=lfttscl-dbc-20&linkId=22d987094893adf529b9c0e958278795&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl). Like I said, it has the same sensor so night time quality is the same. It’s 1440p on the front and 1440p on the rear cam...still very respectable. So if you want a front and rear cam, I’d go with that. Just get [a max endurance memory card](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084CJ9T2R/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_WFFHDWCRNAPCVZJ2PGSF?linkCode=ml1&tag=lfttscl-dbc-20) and you’ll be good to go.
