I've used the A119v2 and now have the A229... The newer ones have more sensitive sensors for more clarity and better images in low light / at night.

My first A119 v2 died in under a month. Warrantied replacement seems to be working well. It will randomly protect a recording or take a photo when in use. I’m thinking it’s misinterpreted voice commands from the radio or occasionally when scraping the windshield of ice.

Yes I’ve had one since 2018. A VIOFO A119 V2 which I hardwired myself w/o parking mode. Last year I upgraded to a VIOFO A229 Pro 2CH which I got a shop to do. Started doing it from my interest in tech but came really handy when I got into a collision on the highway. Unfortunately this is a lesson most people learn the hard way as they don’t think they need one until it’s too late.

A basic but long lasting unit is the Viofo A119v3. My V2 has survived 5 years of Alberta winters. It’s also a favorite of dashcamtalk.

I know, I just found it comical... Some of my best dash cam videos come from my old 1080p dash cam from 2016... Viofo a119 v2 [sample video](https://youtu.be/zopX39FKBew) possibly mildly NSFW.

I didn't know Viofo were recommended on here. I compared samples of video quality from a comparison site somewhere online years ago. I chose Viofo, and that's what's been running faultlessly on our family's cars for years. Two V2 and one V3. So I recommend Viofo too!

I’ve had that one in my truck for a few years and it’s worked great. Although I think I have the v2.

I have a VIOFO A119 Mini 2 that looks at me accusingly as I walk past every day because it's still in the box and hasn't been installed. Just haven't gotten to it. But the VIOFO A119 V3 and V2 that I have in other cars are very good. You could put a LiFePO4 battery between the car and the dashcam. The Lithium battery will recharge while the car is on, and while it is off power the dashcam.
