"I don't trust them anymore with their built in capacitors that died."
I have a viofo A119s. Works mostly good, sometimes have an issue where it doesn't turn on right away, but turning it off and on again always fixes it.
I've had the A119S and A129 Duo Plus both are rock solid.
I recently purchased two Viofo A119 mini 2 because I prefer having two full sized cameras. I use them in the front and rear of my QX80. The A119 mini 2 replaced the A119s that I was using since Aug 2017. The latter didn't die but would stop recording without any notification. Yes, I tried multiple new compatible cards. I only had one instance where the camera helped me out. Had a car merge from side road onto the fast lane in front of me. I was doing less than speed limit inside JVC but had to slam so hard the Abs kicked in and I still hit them. It was the other car fault but they kept denying and told me let's go to police station. I told them again are you sure because you merged from third lane to first (fast lane) and they insisted it was my fault. Went along to station, explained to the cops and then flipped out the dash cam. The other party immediately accepted fault and apologised.
I have had a Viofo A119S in our 2017 Santa Fe since shortly after we got it It is front only. It is powered from an adapter connected to the mirror. Sorry, the company that made the adapter is no longer selling them on Amazon, but there may be others now. There is no GPS or Parking mode. I have always used 128GB SD cards, some designed / warranted for continuous recording devices. I'm looking at a Viofo A329S dual (front & rear) for our 2026 Santa Fe Hybrid. I picked it because of image quality (license plates), history with Viofo, and the possibility to store video on an external SSD. The high resolution video really consumes storage. Viofo says a 512GB SD card will store 6 days worth of video when recording 3 hours a day (18 hours). I don't think that is a lot and am looking for longer recording times - trips rather than commuting. The camera hasn't been purchased yet as I'm also looking for cargo tray, jack and tool kit. The spare arrived yesterday, hoist before the holidays. I am capable of installing it myself, and have watched installation videos, but am looking for someone in our area to install it. Someone that sees them frequently, not once every 9 years. Rear camera - for the Viofo, a wire needs to be rum from the front camera to the rear camera as they both record on the SD card (or SSD). If you decide to go with the Fitcamx, you may want to consider a single camera for the rear. SD cards - Don't go cheap. Look for SD cards that are warranted for continuous recording devices. Check r/dashcams for recommendations too.
We use the regular VIOFO A119s and they're awesome, especially for the price! They work great (front and back) and no issues with eyesight.
I prefer the latest VIOFO dash cams. And if the latest model is outside your budget look at the 2k or 1080p versions.
I’ve got both a single and a dual unit in our cars and they’ve been largely flawless. I’ve had two incidents where they seemed to glitch out and record nothing but a factory reset and they’ve been fine again - and we are talking two incidents over at least five years now. For the price they’re a great buy IMO.
In a miata, you could be probably get away with the “uber” Viofo camera that aims straight back from the main unit (in lieu of a rear camera). But that’s if you don’t tuck it behind the mirror, which we usually try to do in most of our installations.
I got the viofo a119 as well. Very small, almost invisible when I’m sitting down if you install it behind the rear view mirror. Also very easy to install in the ND. Highly recommended.
I suggest to get any Viofo besides the A229 (audio quality can turn loud at certain times), Either go with the A119 or A129, best models or either a Garmin or Thinkware, you can find some of them for under $200 or $100 and they're very easy to install!
