VIOFO - A119S

I have a viofo A119s. Works mostly good, sometimes have an issue where it doesn't turn on right away, but turning it off and on again always fixes it.

I recently purchased two Viofo A119 mini 2 because I prefer having two full sized cameras. I use them in the front and rear of my QX80. The A119 mini 2 replaced the A119s that I was using since Aug 2017. The latter didn't die but would stop recording without any notification. Yes, I tried multiple new compatible cards. I only had one instance where the camera helped me out. Had a car merge from side road onto the fast lane in front of me. I was doing less than speed limit inside JVC but had to slam so hard the Abs kicked in and I still hit them. It was the other car fault but they kept denying and told me let's go to police station. I told them again are you sure because you merged from third lane to first (fast lane) and they insisted it was my fault. Went along to station, explained to the cops and then flipped out the dash cam. The other party immediately accepted fault and apologised.

Same question here for u/SafeDriveSolutions. I have a pair of Viofo A119S: one front and one rear. Is it worth upgrading to A329? Side question 1: why get Viofo 2ch or 3ch? If you have to route a cable to the rear anyways, then might as well just get another dedicated 1ch camera for maximum quality, no? Side question 2: if I did choose to upgrade from A119S to A329, then would I be able to keep the same mounting bracket or do I have to remove my current one? Love your Youtube channel and blog btw.

We use the regular VIOFO A119s and they're awesome, especially for the price! They work great (front and back) and no issues with eyesight.

1080p Viofo dash cams. Best ~$130 I’ve spent. Crystal clear video too. I think they have an option for rear cameras as well

I prefer the latest VIOFO dash cams. And if the latest model is outside your budget look at the 2k or 1080p versions.

I’ve got both a single and a dual unit in our cars and they’ve been largely flawless. I’ve had two incidents where they seemed to glitch out and record nothing but a factory reset and they’ve been fine again - and we are talking two incidents over at least five years now. For the price they’re a great buy IMO.

I had a Viofo front dashcam on my 2023 SEL which I loved. Got a 2025 Limited, but there were no kit for installing a Viofo. Finally installed the FitcamX, which took about 10 minutes. It works surprisingly good, but there's not very much to the hardware. Would have rather spent a little more to get a Viofo, but having the FitcamX is better than having no camera.

I suggest to get any Viofo besides the A229 (audio quality can turn loud at certain times), Either go with the A119 or A129, best models or either a Garmin or Thinkware, you can find some of them for under $200 or $100 and they're very easy to install!

i really really like the viofo. i bought the a119 on sale on amazon 2 years ago and it's been recording consistently ever since because it is motion/bump activated when i'm not driving. i hardwired it into my car. cannot recommend it enough.

For starters any dash cam is better than no dash cam. Other than that, the price will vastly depend on what you need from a dash cam. Price will range from under $100 to over $500. Importing things to consider will include: - Coverage (front only? Or do you want back and interior recording?) - Parking mode (do you want it recording when your car is off or just only record when you are driving?) - Connectivity (do you want to connect to it with your phone or the cloud, or are you ok with just accessing it via the memory card) - Durability (some cams will be challenged to perform in very hot or cold weather or may deteriorate faster over time in those harsher conditions) Viofo is a good brand that has a variety of options at different price points. I previously owned an A119 that cost probably around $150 and used it for a good solid 6 years. I’ve recently upgraded to a A229 Pro that cost probably around 3x the A119 but gives me significantly more features.

It died just out of warranty, but it had problems before that. The customer support said to upgrade the firmware. That fixed it several times (PITA) before warranty end, but did not fix it after warranty end. It was a POS.

This is the one I use, as well. It's been doing the job, but there have been occasions where the unit doesn't begin to record when the vehicle is started. Thankfully, you can see this happening because the red REC led light blinks rapidly. Turning it off/on again seems to rectify it. It hasn't happened for sometime, but it was a concern.

I love my VIOFO A119. Just got the v2 for my wife's car. They're pretty affordable and easy to setup/use

My Garmin only lasted a few years also. I replaced it with a VIOFO A119

Many like the fitcam but I got the dongar rear view mirrow power adapter which provides USB power to many dashcam types. I personally like VIOFOs simple A119 non wifi unit with the antiglare lense, its a great camera and doesnt have an internal battery (just a capacitor) they are known to last a very long time. The Ford Lightning specific mudguards for front and rear are great and look good.

I have the Viofo A119 and the A229 Pro, both going strong no issues at all. Both hardwired to the vehicles and sat out in the extreme cold/heat no issues. And honestly the best quality video compared to Thinkware/Blackvue by miles and the price points are very competitive!

Get a VIOFO and hardwire kit. It can do a type of sentry mode if it has constant power. I use the 119 and 129 front and rears on my vehicles, no problems in a few years so far.

Dongar adapter and Viofo A119. I have a FITCAMX on my id4 but only because that was the only clean install option available. Connectivity sucks on it and while I haven’t experienced it myself numerous reports of missing recordings exist.

I run dash cams in all my cars. I have a viofo a119 hardwired using their kit to give it power while parked in my C55. Nice peace of mind.

I'm also an O/O with Motive, I bought a Viofo A119 as a secondary unit. Great video quality day or night, 2K @ 60fps, can take a 512GB microSD card and can get one for around $120.

I recently installed my Viofo 119 which is a \~£100 cam that fits neatly on the windscreen in either of the top-central corners with the wire running nicely down along the A pilar and is only visible where it goes from door seal to under the carpet heading over to the cabin fusebox which is inside the center console next to the pedals. You need to buy a couple Micro 2 fuse taps as the interior box only have that size.

VIOFO A119, I bought one two years ago and have had zero issues with it. It seems to be commonly recommended and well rated amongst others too.

Viofo A119,A129, or A229 depending on what you’re looking for are all good. The cable thing you tuck it in behind your trim so it isn’t dangling. Going to be a thing for any dash cam.

I've got an a119 and can confirm, the brand is pretty damn good, though I got mine for $140. Spent a bit extra to hardwire it and got the optional polarized filter, so all in $180. I can clearly read license plates 50-70ft out, and if it's not 1I1I1I1 it can distinguish enough to make out much farther.

Viofo A119 Is what I used to use, but when I got my 2022XLE I decided to f it, went with the factory installed dashcam. Works great, no visible wiring, enclosure looks like it’s just an extension of the rear mirror and I don’t notice it’s there…granted, it was much more expensive (one-time expense for the life of the car). But, I didn’t have to hook it up to the internal wiring myself and it activates when I hit a big bump, or someone walks near my vehicle when I’m gone, or any time it thinks there might be ‘an event’ regardless if the car is on or not…and I can pull footage wirelessly or with the card.

Do your research. I did mine several years ago and went with VIOFO. I agree with the Project Farm link, he does a very good comparison, I was glad to see the brand that I originally researched and went with was still the best all around choice. I have 3 VIOFO cameras (119, 229, 229 Duo) setups with a 4th one (329 3-way) in transit as I type this. Not only have they been super reliable and provide the best resolution possible, but they run off a super capacitor (vs battery) so they tolerate the heat (thus adding to the reliability. Depends on what you want it to do. I just ordered the 329 3-way setup for my daughter that just recently started driving and I wanted to be as thorough as possible (night/day, outside/inside, front/back/sides) so she is protected from a "your word against theirs" type situation. I've seen too many YouTube videos where having a single camera wasn't enough, or an officer claiming a driver was on their phone when they were just eating a sandwich, etc. In the long run, a dashcam can pay for itself 1000x over if, heaven forbid, something happens on the road. It would suck to trade quality, reliability, and picture quality for a few bucks. This is just my opinion and experience.

Nice. FYI... the CPL filters for these make ALL the difference in the world too. The 329 came with one for the front, but I added the one for the rear when I ordered. My OG 119 dashcam has been a champ and at one point I considered retiring it. I got the CPL lens for it, and it made such a significant improvement on the overall picture quality, that it is still in use! For those reading this post, the CPL filters are polarized filters that SIGNIFICANTLY reduce glare and enhance clarity. I ONLY purchase polarized sunglasses for the same reason. Only you can answer that. What price would you pay for having the footage when you really need it?  I have an A119 it was $90 when I purchased it four years ago. Its still working fine in the heat of the deep south. Viofo is a well known brand when it comes to mid-tier dashcams.

We have a viofo A119 in the car I passed down to my youngest, and when I bought a truck I installed a viofo A129 plus duo front and back. I bought an extra GPS mount with the A119 for our minivan, I swap the camera into this car for long road trips. Very happy with both.

The Viofo A119 is a great budget cam, you can find it on Amazon, it's USB (or they have a hardwire kit if you decide to do that in the future). I don't have a 4th Gen, but in my 2nd Gen, there are two different 12v sockets, 1 that is on all the time and 1 that is only on when the car is running, maybe check if you have that? I just have it plugged into the one that turns on with the car, as I don't need the parking mode. Works great

I have the Viofo A119, one step down from this one and just a front camera, but it's fantastic. Great quality, easy setup. Have hard-wiring kits available if you want to use the parking mode, I didn't bother and just use it with tucked away USB power cord. Read about it a lot before buying, they apparently perform better in cold weather than other cameras since they use a capacitor, which should help here.

Best way is to do it yourself. Not very technical. You’ll learn a bit about your car. Sorry I don’t know mechanics in Mumbai yet I used viofo a119 with great results and no problems. A129 is their two channel product

I have VIOFO A119's. One in my car, and three in my truck (one front facing, one on each side of the rear window since I tow a trailer). They're relatively cheap and work well.

I really like the Viofo A229 for a dash cam. It has both front and rear cameras. It has a good parking mode and GPS.  I have the older version (A119) and have had them in both of my vehicles and they work great and are very discrete (screen dims while driving). Both vehicles, they are mounted beside the mirror.  Combine the camera with a 16 pin power adapter for the mirror and it's a very well integrated setup that feels oem. 

Vifo A119. Very clear imaging. Easy install. Get the hardwire kit and the dome light adapter kit. All can be found on Amazon with a simple search.

I tried this one a couple years ago. Wired it all in correctly with the adapters. The footage would split itself every time the auto stop was engaged. Regardless if it was enabled or not. (even if it was off, when I came to a stop at a light, the footage would turn off and back on) For example, a 5 minute drive with 5 stops would result in nearly 30 video clips of the drive. Some clips would overlap where the last 4 seconds of clip 6 would be the first few seconds of clip 7. It was very hard to find incidents and export a full video of what happened and not have to cut and stitch together multiple 5-8 second clips.

I also recommend Viofo. I've been using the Viofo A119 for years without a single issue. Between friends and family, I know over a dozen people with the Viofo cameras and no one has had an issue. I even handed my original one down to my parents and it's still working after 7-8 years. I upgraded from the A119 model to the Viofo A129 Duo Plus when I got my Bronco to get a rear camera and wifi. I really like it, but the rear cord just barely had enough length the way I routed it. The A129 Duo Pro has a longer rear cord. I have the camera to the right of my mirror along with my EZPass. I tucked the wires into the head liner, down the A-pilar (be sure not to bring it across the air bag), under the glove box, and plugged it into the 12v in the center console. There was extra wire for the front camera, so I used a small zip tie under the glove box to keep it out of site. For the rear camera, it was more involved. I didn't want to run it down the top since it would cross the airbag, so I ran it down the A-pilar, tucked it in the trim under the front and rear doors, then up the C-pilar and to the rear glass. When mounting the rear camera, make sure you open both the rear hatch and the glass to make sure you have enough slack.

Another recommendation for Viofo. I bought my first one from them almost 10 years ago and it still works. That one was the A119 model. I handed it down to family when I got my Bronco since I upgraded to the A129 Duo Plus to get wifi and a rear camera.

VIOFO is good quality for price. I have VIOFO A119 and the image quality and options it has on it are great, so im sure the better models are just as good. My only problem is that ever since the winter it doesnt always turn on automatically. Sometimes I will have to unplug the usb and plug it back in. This happened with both units I had (I thought first was faulty so I got replacement but both stopped turning on automatically after a month or so. It was a chilly winter, but I've never heard of cold (10F) causing electronics to have issues, so it could be my car.

Viofo is a fairly well regarded brand. The A129 is about $250 for a dual channel unit. Less for a single channel. The A119 is a slightly older version but goes for around $180 I think. They stand up fairly well in the Australian heat. A lot of cameras just cook in the closed cabin in the summer sun.

I’ve had an A119 for 3 years and had 0 issues. 

I’ve had a pair of these since 2016 out here. They’re still working. The main thing to avoid are dash cams with internal batteries.

I got a Rexing V1 for my newer CR-V, my other older car has a Viofo A119. Don't like the Rexing because maybe once or twice a month, it loses all the configurations and resets itself to Jan 1, 2022, even though it is hardwired to the car. I feel like it's a burden having to reconfigure as new every time. I wish I had bought another Viofo model.

My A119 is still going well after 5 years. Love that I don’t have to fear battery issues as I did with my old Navman

I also have these and they've lasted about four years. I had an earlier model that had a battery instead of a capacitor and it died int he second summer.

I have the A119 and really like it. Image quality is great.

I have a Viofo 119 with an pigtail adapter that powered it from the rearview mirror. Very happy but wishing that I went with a dual cam setup.

I have a viofo A119 in two cars and an A129 plus duo in the third.  All three are great.

If you’re looking for basic one channel, you can’t go wrong with the Viofo A119 and hardwire kit.

I just got a refurbished viofo a119 for $76. I think it's worth it to double your budget and go get something reputable.

I have a VIOFO A119 and it has been great. I recently bought a new truck and will likely put in the newer [VIOFO A229 Plus dual cameras](https://amzn.to/3Z9Ijmj). There is also an A229 Pro which is 4K. Also, checkout the reviews on [/r/dashcam](https://www.reddit.com/r/Dashcam).

I own a Viofo A229 plus front+rear on my Civic. If you only want a front cam then the A119 is a great option. I put one on my girlfriend's car and on my parents' car

I also used this video to hardwire my Viofo A119. So far so good. I tapped into a fuse that only has power when the truck is on. There are options to also/instead tap into a constant power fuse if you buy a dash cam that supports recording when the vehicle is off (e.g. turns on when it senses a bump when parked in a parking garage). There is not much property crime in my area and I didn't want to run any risks of the battery draining, so I didn't see the need to have 24/7 recording enabled.

Viofo A119 or A129 (rear cam as well). Best value at the price point. Blackvue is one of the best but the price reflects it. The Viofo ones you can get on Amazon, and are easy to install.

Hard time justifying anything other than hachi's groupbuy viofos.

I've been using the Viofo dashcams for over 10 years. They're as reliable as any other brand, affordable, and I have no reason to switch to another company. I put tens of hours into finding the right kind of dashcam. Viofo A119, or the A229. Since the market crash of 2009, auto insurance scams went up 1200 % within 2 years  and with the increased cost of everything now, I can only assume that number has gone up. Even organized crime is involved, staging multi-vehicle crashes. EVERYONE needs a dashcam. If someone calls the police on you and it's their word against yours, you might lose in court. And not just traffic court. You can be charged criminally ( depending on that person's "story" ). If that happens, it will be months of stress, thousands on a lawyer  and you still might lose. No license to get to and from work, thousands in fines, sued civilly, and angry for 10 years with much higher insurance premiums. This is a worst case scenario, but it happens everyday, all over the world. ## Whenever there's an incident, save the recording on your PC incase someone tries to blame you etc. Dashcams re-record once the SD card is full, so buy the largest SD card that the dashcam can handle., and format the SD card in the camera when you first put it in and reformat the SD card every couple of months to stop any bugs from popping up. No dashcam is "very" reliable, which is why I run 2. 2 out the front and 2 out the back. I recommend fishing the cord through the headliner at the top of the windshield, then down the side inside of the rubber seal by the hinge, then under the dash and back towards the engine, all the way left, then have it come forward. That way it's not too susceptible of getting snagged on somebody's bag etc. There are tons of YouTube videos showing this method. This is all I've ever used.

In Florida mine were getting fried. Just due to the heat I guess. Someone somewhere recommended Viofo a119 and it has held up well.

VIOFO Dash Cam A119, I got this on sale for 85 last year. Ifs easy to install and powered from cig lighter via usb plug. I just tucked the wire around the headliner trim down the pillar under dash etc. If you can install a ez pass scanner on your windshield you can do this lol. My only con is this is only forward facing. You might want to do both front and rear cameras.

I got the A119 cam with the 10pin Type B adapter. Other Voifo cams might fit your needs better. Mine's pretty basic.

Viofo a119. Don't forget to buy the adapter dongle to plug it into the mirror connection so you don't have wires hanging around the interior.

we have 2 A119, and they are great. best feature IMO is the 5ghz wireless connection when you want to review the video on your phone, I have had so much trouble with other dashcams using 2.4ghz

I've had good luck with the viofo a229 4k. Their cheaper model, which I think the a119, seems to be pretty decent as well though not quite as good video quality. In either case, I'd keep the microphone turned on, and if you witness an accident instinctively shout out loud the license plate number. Odds are it's going to be difficult to read on the video, especially at night Ditto and not cheaping out on the SD card. In fact, I probably just buy the viofo card. The heat and constant rewriting tends to kill the cheaper cards

Second this. My previous Viofo A119 broke and I got a 70mai A800S Dual channel. For about $300-ish with phone app connectivity, I think it’s a great deal.

viofo a119 as a basic single camera that works well. you can move up from there and spend an astounding amount of money if you want to . I would get an A229 dual channel front and rear for $320 or so off Amazon. depending on your car, they can be easy or a complete pain in the arse to install. single channels are normally fairly easy to install, running the cable to the back in a hidden manner and getting it to the back window can be challenging.

I have two VIOFO A119’s that have held up for two summers now. These do not have rear cameras, but they make models that do. (Not 4k, but the 2k is more than clear enough to make out plates at night)

the viofo a119 is a good bang for the buck one, there are better ones, but the quality increases don't quite match the price increases

I transitioned from the A119 to the A229 Plus because I wanted front and rear cameras. The video is excellent quality.

I started with the Viofo A119 but now running A229. I recommend getting the hardware kit and a trim tool. Dedicate a day to install it right.

I bought the Viofo A129 plus, directly from viofo.com when it was on sale. I used to have a Viofo A119 on my 2017 Tucson, hardwired, but i didn't really use the parking function. The night time recording is what makes the difference between dadhcams and I would suggest you get one with a Sony StarVis **2** sensor. Regarding wiring, I did not bother with hardwire in my 2025 Tucson for two reasons. One, the fuse box is reeealy tiny and tight and the fuse taps would stick out. And two, since the car gives me **4** USB-C charging ports, I just used a right angle adapter to connect the camera's OEM USB cable to one of the ports in the front. It's really unnoticeable. Two things I would steer clear from, is suction cup mounts and cameras with white or IR LEDs... all they do is light up the windshield at night and render the footage basically useless.

A119 here, and it's been flawless for 8 years or so. Definitely recommend Viofo for longevity.

Viofo A119 is what I'm using.

If you need only for the front, Viofo A119 + parking mode connection + high endurance micro SD. Exactly how my setup is and hasn't failed me once. DM me if you want to see how the video quality is (I have a recording of an accident I got into on YouTube, the YouTube compression makes it look a bit worse than the actual file).

I'm a big fan of the A119/A129 and related dashcams. Installed mine with the dongar adapter, very quick and easy

Vantrue or VIOFO. They both use the Sony Starvis image sensor and have great quality. The cameras are pretty set and forget if you opt for the hardwire kit. It will turn on and off with the car and start recording as soon as it starts up. The included power adapter does the same thing if your power port in your car turns off with the ignition.

70Mai is good - I've one in the CX5, front and rear cameras - and bought direct from AliExpress - retailers here sell the same thing, just for more. Do the math. Also the Viofo seem to be getting traction well - pick anything with the Sony Starvis sensor really - they're good in day and great at night.

I have a couple viofo A-series, they're awesome. Wolfbox is also getting popular.

The best cameras are the Viofos but the Fitcam is the easiest to install cleanly and looks OEM so it really depends on what you're after.

Viofo from hachielectronics. It plugs from my fake engine noise so it doesn't have to take up usb space nor have to do any fuse voodoo.

For install, look up a video on how to install one and it tells you which fuse to tap. You’ll have to drill a hole on the silver frame of the dashboard to get a ground but overall it’s not hard to install. I recommend Vioflo or Nextbase.

GKU D700 - around $122 on Amazon after coupon. Have 3 of these in our household and they’ve been flawless (installed with the hardwire kit for an extra $25ish). App is great, decent size touchscreen, good quality front and rear video and capacitor based I believe. Had Viofos in the past which didn’t last more than 1-2 years, so thought I’d give these a try.

I've owned several Viofos and I don't trust them anymore with their built in capacitors that died. I now have 70mai brand. Have the model A800S

I've owned a bunch of Viofos but have switched to 70mai for the Ioniq 5. But anyways, you should mount it on the plastic part with just the lens peeking enough to view the street. Or put it on the right side of the plastic housing. It's annoying having the dashcam visible in your eyeline.

I've ran several viofos with no problems. Currently run a A119 V3. No problem easy install. Been running them for years. Usually if something is wrong, its the sd card.

Try watching Dashcmas Australia, take of the the crappy ones and the good footages. Most of the good ones I see consistently are Viofos.
