VIOFO - A129 Duo

I have a 129 duo. The 329 comes out soon as the presale starts today. So either a sale on 1 and 2 series or price drop should happen soon.

I've been happy with the Viofo products that we are using. We've had an the A129 Duo in my teenage daughter's '19 for several years now, and currently have two A229 Plus units: one in my wife's '22 WRX and one in my '24 Ascent. The '19 uses the v3 Eyesight (w/SRH), while the '22 WRX uses the v4 (no center mono cam) and the '24 Ascent uses the v4 w/center camera. All three are placed just below the passenger side Eyesight camera, and in so far as we have experienced, none have caused any issues with Eyesight, although, of-course, being by-Hoyle in the "forbidden zone," there's simply no way for us (or anyone, for that matter), to say that it absolutely does not cause any interference, as we simply don't know what Eyesight "sees." Based on his videos, I'm going to use some tape to reinforce the QD mount for my A229s, so that it is less likely to be jostled off the mount (and lose power) during impacts. VIOFO A129 Duo is my recommendation as i have onbe of these kits in my car (just checked and its now the A229 Duo which is the updated version of the A129 Duo with the Sony STARVIS 2 sensor built in). It had the best camera sensor on the market at the time I purchased it (Sony Starvis sensor) Get the fixed wire kit to access the parking mode and if the cameras too far from the driving position, get the bluetooth remote button to activate the save video feature if you've been involved in a collision or want ot save the tomfoolery you'vew just witnessed. I can safely say their customer service is excelllent - they helped me troubleshoot an issue despite my camera system being 12 months out of warranty and even sent out spare parts to help trouble shoot free of charge. Now, whether that was a one off or not I don't know, but I will always recommmend Viofo to anyone looking for a camera system as they look after you should there be a problem.

Any of the viofo dual set ups will be your best options. A129 duo is right at the $150 price point. Viofo cams are highly recommended on the dashcam sub

I have the VIOFO a129 duo. The UI and app are janky but it shoots really good video. I got that adapter that’s pulls power from the mirror then ran a cable up the passenger side roll bar down the back.

Any dashcam in which its adhesive and USB cable is mounted to a detachable bracket, rather than the dashcam itself. For example, the [Viofo A129](https://www.amazon.com/VIOFO-Channel-Emergency-Recording-Capacitor/dp/B07CT6JPYW) has its usb cable attached to a bracket. The bracket is adhesive-mounted to your windshield. You can simply silde the dashcam off the bracket and slide it into another car. No separate cable connection required. You will have to wire a USB cable and bracket for each vehicle though. If you'd like a cheaper solution, maybe go for something suction cup mounted. My experience with suction cups is that if you're constantly relocating them, they will fall off due to dust and oil and they are a pain to deal with.

My Viofo sitting on the passenger side behind the mirror never bothered me in my last car. Also it still works perfectly fine after 4,5 years so as soon as the temperature outside goes up a bit it's going right back in the Polestar.

Why not? Just watch some videos to find the best route to take and go for it. I recently took my viofo A129 Duo out of my old lease car and will put it in the P2 as soon as the temperature goes up a bit. (its still a fair bit of work so I don't want to be cold when doing it)

no, you need to spend around $150-$200. You can get more bells and whistles spending more. Buy your own SD card. I like Sandisk High Endurance. Or the Viofo-branded ones are apparently good, and you can buy it along with one of their dashcams (I had an A129 Duo for years).

I have the Viofo A129 Duo, it's the previous generation of the A129 Plus Duo. Has been reliable in this Texas heat. I installed the Viofo A113 V3 in my wife's SUV. I tapped into #3 (Auto-dimming Interior mirror) for "ignition on" and #5 (Lock. Unlock.) for constant power for parking mode. I mounted my camera behind the rearview mirror on the passenger side. I used a small file to round out some openings in the black cover to hid/run my wires. The power line is ran down the passenger A pillar to the fuse box. The rear dash cam wire is ran above the doors and behind the headliner along the driver side. Make sure to tuck the wires behind all the airbags. As mentioned earlier, make sure you get a dash cam with Sony Starvis chipset, they are hands down the best. Also, make sure to use an endurance micro SD card. Get the largest SD card your dash cam is compatible with, because some dash cams won't accept a 256 GB card. Depending on where you live I would recommend getting a dash cam with capacitors vs a lithium battery. Lithium batteries have the potential to expand or fail if exposed to consistent high heat like what I experience in South Texas. Viofo and all the more expensive brands use capacitors.

I have the older Viofo A129 Duo hardwired into my Maverick. I've used in my past trucks for the past few years and it's been a solid camera. Unless you want the LTE features from Blackvue or Thinkware where you can view your dash cam at anytime; Viofo offers a lot of bang for the buck. Only thing I would say is their app is a little clunky, but it's not something I really use after installing the camera.

Viofo A129 Duo. Bought one for myself and for my partner. Good quality for a good price. I plug mine into the USB but you can hardwire it for additional features like parking cameras.

Be certain that whatever cam you buy has a built-in capacitor to handle hot interior temperatures. I’ve used a VIOFO A129 front & rear cam for years. And yes, get a front & rear cam, it’s worth it.

The A129 Duo (newer versions available) came with a long enough cable, tucked-in under interior trim panels to reach rear stationary window. Idk if it’s compatible with your existing cam. Me thinks not, but who knows,right? My first cam,some off-brand thing, burned out in one year from desert heat. No capacitor inside. Always ask for this! Edit: lightly loosen interior panels, if possible first, so you don’t break it. A cheap “interior trim tools” set from Harbor Freight works fine to push cable inside

Previous car had a Viofo A129 Duo, was good save for the unintuitive onboard controls and dodgy wifi streaming. Need to do some research on current dashcams. Still a few weeks before I get the car.

I've had a "Chinese brand name" Viofo A129 Duo setup for 5 years, still running strong through 45c summers and -50c winters. Plenty reliable in my experience, but I'm just a sample of one. The app sucks though, I haven't used it in 3 years so no idea if they've made any improvements on that end.

I second the A129 Duo. No issues in central Texas heat since 2021. App does suck.

In 2015, I bought some shitty thing that I just looked up in my Amazon history. KDLinks it was called. It was a piece of crap and it fell off its mount and I ran it over in my driveway. After that, I spent like $500 on a Waylens via kickstarter. It was one of the first with OBDII connectivity. It was pretty slick and had awesome overlays on the video, but the mount was absolutely rubbish so the videos were all jittery and shitty. Then I bought a cheap VIOFO A119 and it just worked. So I bought an A129 Duo for my wife’s car. And another A129 Duo for my commuting car. And recently an A139 Pro 2ch for my new car. After 6 years on the oldest one, they are all still working flawlessly.

Viofo A129 Duo. Skip the Plus - they removed the motion detection feature which is handy for parking up (can run it off a power bank and it'll sip power - or a hardwire kit which has a low voltage protection setting). Skip the Pro - not really worth the added cost for 4K imo and you'll need to spend more on an SD card.

Viofo A129 Duo - they are separate front and back cameras that connect with a wire. Been running it on my cars for 2 years now and it still works fine.

I have the two-channel version of this. No complaints, seems like a good unit. 2021 Silverado; still having a rough time finding an accessory fuse to switch it on and off automatically with the ignition.

Viofo A119 or A129 for the win.

I have the A129 Duo but not the plus. If I recall there was a reason I avoided the plus. Like the low light wasn’t as good or something. It’s been a minute. I paid $127. My goal was to write a program that would pull off all the video over WiFi when I pulled into the driveway but when WiFi is enabled, it overheats in the summer. Also, the WiFi is sloooooooooow. It would basically take all night to pull all the video from the day. If I did it all over, I’d spend the extra money for one with better connectivity. I hate having to remove the card to bring it inside and I’m forever forgetting it in my computer. I did finally write a program to rip all the video, merge all the files from a drive into one, extract the GPS into a GPX file and then once done, it sends me a Telegram message every minute until I remove the card. This has prevented me from forgetting it.

I had one for a week. Recording was whenever it felt like it, the heat killed it, returned it, and got a Viofo A119 or 129 (don't remember which) dual camera. Haven't had a problem with it.

I've had a few different brands, currently have three viofo cameras in our vehicles. A129 is plenty good enough, a229 plus/ pro has a better sensor for night at a pretty steep price. I don't feel high dollar dashcams are worth buying, even a fuzzy picture with front and rear coverage is enough to prove fault. Having a license plate be legible is hit or miss even on the fancy ones, and rarely helps ya deal with insurance or nor will the cops chase down a hit and run in a city. I recommend a front and rear cam (the viofo records two videos, not one video with the rear overlayed) and something with either voice activation or a remote "emergency" record button. Viofo has a remote record button for 20 bucks that works on a few of their newer cameras.

I have a a229 pro and it's pretty good. Any cheapo dashcam (with front and rear recording) is enough to prove liability. Reading plates is pretty useless unless the other guy has insurance and the cops are bored enough to go find him, and he admits to being the driver. Honestly the a129 and a229 are very close image wise, the a229 does a bit better at night though.

I would recommend a viofo dashcam, I've out mine to the left side of the mirror and down just far enough to see under the black dot Matrix port. It's got a great view of the road and I can easily reach the incident button if needed. I've got the 2 channel one so the rest camera is in the middle of the back. There are several options from them but anything more than 2K on the front feels excessive. 

I got two Pruveeos 9 years ago. One is still going, but the other died after 6 years. I got a 2 channel Viofo for my wife's car. The rear camera died at 13 months which stopped the front from recording. I figured out that the front worked fine if I unplugged the rear. They wanted me to pay $40 for a replacement rear cam though it was still in warranty. I just tossed it and switched to Garmin. I'm not saying to buy Pruveeo the video quality sucks, but they were only $37.

Congrats on making the right switch. My Viofo A129 which I purchased back in 2019 on AliExpress finally gave up. With updated type C wiring I am dreading upgrading to new ones since I hardwired mine. VIOFO is the way to go. It survived summers due to its super-capacitor design.

Another vote for Viofo. They just work, and the wedge shaped 129 is almost invisible when installed well.

I use Viofo A129 on my cars. It’s top-rated for a reason - good price, 4K video recording, wifi connectivity, capacitor-powered (instead of batteries that bloat and degrade in heat), front and rear cameras. Newest model is now the A329.

I installed the VioFo A129 front and rear dash cam system. It was pretty straightforward. Just make sure you have a trim tool from Harbor freight. VIOFO a129 all day. Do yourself a favor and get use a new static cling sheet(5x7) so you’re not sticking that high bond tape directly to windshield.

Seconding Viofo. I have the A129 for about a year now and it's great, no issues in the heat.

I bought the Viofo A129 (front and rear cameras) 5 1/2 years ago. I believe I paid $190. It's still working great. I highly doubt a $50 camera would have lasted this long.

Any that fits your budget. You are not gonna be look at license plate numbers. You need it for big accident and evidence purposes. I had a PAPAGO GoSafe 535 I purchased in 2018. I remember actually only bothering to check the footage once to see if I caught the accident that happened on the cross street while I was at a red light. I paid 121 back then. I bought the VIOFO 129 or some other model again last year for 140 or something, have not had to use it once, infact I am unable to use it now cause it keeps falling in the texas summer heat. I do see a benefit in getting a rare facing and front facing one, but no use in spending big money for it, go to market place and get used one and call it a day. The only place I would recommend spending money is on a decent microsd card, you dont want data to go corrupt when you actually need it lol.

I used a VIOFO a129 for a few years. I ended up buying another one as I wanted a 4K camera. I hardwired it and hid the wires behind the paneling on my car so it wasn’t noticeable and I had front and rear cameras.  I ended up taking them out before I sold my car.

I absolutely loathe Best Buy, but they have a great installer near me, so he's done several cars for me and my son. We both have the Viofo A129. Have had it for over 5 years in the Texas heat and never one issue. Love having the front and rear cameras. (You also have to purchase the hardwire kit separately.)

I've had an a129 viofo for a few years it still works but it's very inconsistent as far as recording when you need it to and doing random beeps that make no sense It's also extremely slow with Wi-Fi transfer are newer ones any better?

My viofo dual front and rear cam has withstood years. The cable for it has not. Just got a new cable and works perfectly. I vote viofo if you want a quality cam. Mine has the front and back and GPS data too

My Viofo A129 lasted two years in Phoenix. I'm not sure why it eventually failed, but I was happy enough with it that I replaced it with the exact same model.

I have the viofo duo. Would not recommend because mine does overheat. I was in an accident end of july 2 years ago and it did not capture it. The shock of the crash did trigger the g sensor so i have the footage of my car on its side and the recovery process afterwards, but not the actual wreck itself. When its not overheated you have tl remember to reset it for it to start filming again. Very frustrating. It works good in the winter months but ive left it unplugged since about march

Could be i just have a defective unit as well but it worked fine for the first few months until it started heating up outside

All i know is it works fine in the winter but anything over 90 i have to reset it everytime i turn the car on. And it wont turn on and let me reset it until its cooled off

Yep. I've got 2 VIOFO A129 Duals - 1 in each car. Have had them going-on 7 or 8 years. They're only 1080p so about 4 years ago I decided I really wanted to upgrade to 2K or 4K resolution, but decided I'd wait until the A129 Duals died. Still waiting... I'll be buying VIOFO brand again, if the time ever comes.

They're rock solid. Mine have lasted 8 years in heat and bumpy roads and general neglect - they work so well that I forget they're there.

From the internet. Most of us get our VIOFO dashcams from Amazon. 8 years ago mine were about $200 each - I haven't looked at prices recently.

VIOFO in general make FANTASTIC dash cams. I couldn't be happier with both my A129 & A229

I live in Texas as well and have a Viofo A129. It stays in my car 24/7, had it for several years with no problems

I had a viofo 129 but it gave up the ghost after a couple years. I too would love to find a dash cam that can handle the Texas heat. I know we need to avoid cams with batteries. But as to which would be good? I hope someone has a good suggestion (and even better: manufacturer testing info to back it up).

There is a phone app you can pull from via a local Wi-Fi hotspot. I personally just pulled a microSD when I need it.

Viofo A129 works amazing! I was using mine until I upgraded my vehicle that has one. No issues with overheating and you get both dash cams.

I like my A129 as well. But I’m coming up on 4 years with mine. I even use those reflective windshield heat deflectors too.

Screw it looking oe. What you really want is a good camera. Viofo makes some of the better ones WITH a rear camera as well. After doing lots of research, lots of them use garbage cameras but the better ones use Sony. Specifically the Song Starvis. The Starvis 2 just recently came out and viofo made a new one with the 2. I have a 2 channel Viofo and it's really good. Viofo also has pretty regular sales too FYI. The GRC is really easy to run wires to the back and upper windshield with no wires showing too.

Get a VIOFO and hardwire kit. It can do a type of sentry mode if it has constant power. I use the 119 and 129 front and rears on my vehicles, no problems in a few years so far.

I use a VIOFO, whatever the newer dual channel cam is. I am going to hard wire it in the near future for parking protection. It hasn’t let me down yet and has really good quality. Just pricey and had an older model fail years ago so not too sure about longevity yet, only had it about a year.

The best cameras are the Viofos but the Fitcam is the easiest to install cleanly and looks OEM so it really depends on what you're after.

Viofo. Class leading image quality. Class leading longevity. Only middling price. The 119 is an excellent camera. I’ve had several of them, and a couple of 129. There’s a 329 series now, which looks good, but I doubt its image quality scales with its price. That’s the downfall of almost all dash cams.

Thinkware, Blackvue or Viofo. I use an older Viofo A129.

I have a Garmin 57 in one car and a viofo in the other. My wife just bought a 25 and I installed the Garmin to the right and high. Running the cable was a delight since this car has a hidden 12v socket in the glove box. Tucked all wires in the trim and did not have to remove one thing. Viofo A 129 gets rave pro reviews and has a new model out.

What this guy said about the interference. The dealer will still say it is a problem, but that is not true. I have the Blackview, but I would get the A129 by viofo (I believe) as it has a screen so if the app is no more, you can still control it easier.

Viofo A129 or A229. Avoid Viofo A139, this model was nice because it had mini coax cables, but it's unreliable. When they start to fail they go into a boot loop randomly.

Viofo is the way. I have an A229 and a few weeks ago got side swiped. Had to chase the guy. His word against mine. Dashcam is the only reason my car is getting fixed. The A229 streams easily to my iPhone, much easier than my older A129. So, older cam got put in car that isn’t used as much, and new A229s live in the household’s daily drivers.

I run the viofo a129 and love it, definitely gonna research if the dongle will work on a '22 xl PB although I'm pretty proud of how well I hid the wiring

I've ran several viofos with no problems. Currently run a A119 V3. No problem easy install. Been running them for years. Usually if something is wrong, its the sd card.

Viofo A119 or A129, or really anything from their line. I've used the same unit since 2019 and it has worked perfectly ever since, holds up to below zero temps as well as 100+ F days. Power is done via a Dongar adapter.

As for the brand I have an volofo A129. One camera in front and one in thee rear. It's pretty nice and easy to install if you do it yourself Best sure it gets wired in for power for both car-running and no key power. It will stay in a suspended state but monitor for bumps, and start recording.

Viofo A119,A129, or A229 depending on what you’re looking for are all good. The cable thing you tuck it in behind your trim so it isn’t dangling. Going to be a thing for any dash cam.

My exact setup as well.

I've got an A129 Duo, and I hardwired it to the fuse for an accessory that is operable without the key in the ignition (I think I wired it to the electronic seat adjuster fuse; is that what you mean by "parking kit?"). The only real con to a dual set is running cable from the front (main) cam to the back. It's not even particularly difficult, since the headliners pull back off the plastic trim very easily, so it's easy to run the cable, just time consuming. Hardwiring is a bit of a PITA, depending on where your fuse box is, and what style of fuses it has. Mine is tucked into the footwell under the dash on the passenger side and has the little mini fuses, which, combined, made it pretty difficult to wrap the power wire and plug the fuse back in. If you don't mind loose, visible cables, the kit comes with a USB power cable.

I would just go for the 129 for the second. But, yeah, just the lowest price Viofo is in the 90^th percentile for good choices.

Dual channel if you can justify the higher price. Dual channel just means you get a rear camera too.

Viofo A129 ish. Happy with the original on my car, bought the latest version for my partner's car. Cheap but reliable, wouldn't want to go any cheaper.

I have the Viofo 129 front and back got it on a deal few years ago still using it to this day. Camera quality is very good and it has the built in GPS speed too just in case you need prove your speed for whatever reason. But it’s still going and still like brand new 👍🏻

Once you get it started, keep pushing inch by inch and it goes pretty quick.

I use the Viofo A129 front and rear in my work cars. Not one has died or had any issues at all. Good price for its features. I don't need 4k ultra high quality HDR pictures because they are just for determining fault. 

VIOFO is a really popular brand. The front-rear one I installed in my cars have caught some interesting parked moments. The cameras look like TEMU junk but they are not. They work really well and are well respected among car enthusiasts.

For what it’s worth i have ZERO car experience and I got the viofo front and rear cam and used the donggar adapter to power it off the rain sensor behind the rear view mirror. I watched maybe 2 tutorials, went slow, and was able to get everything in place in well under an hour with no issues. The biggest hurdle was getting the wired connection from the front camera to the rear one so you could just skip the rear facing one for even less hassle. Highly recommend, super easy to do.

I've had a Viofo A129 for a couple of years now, and I leave it in the car 24/7 without issues despite the heat and cold. As far as installing it, it shouldn't be too hard - look around on Youtube, there are tons of video tutorials so I'd be surprised if you can't find your specific car, then you'll know exactly what you're getting into. But the TL;DW is that you just pry back the head liner and the plastic covers around your door frame, run the wire behind them with some zip ties, and finally (assuming you have a fuse adapter kit, which I highly recommend), find the right fuse using your manual and/or a multi-meter then plug it in.
