Get a VIOFO and hardwire kit. It can do a type of sentry mode if it has constant power. I use the 119 and 129 front and rears on my vehicles, no problems in a few years so far.

I have a Garmin 57 in one car and a viofo in the other. My wife just bought a 25 and I installed the Garmin to the right and high. Running the cable was a delight since this car has a hidden 12v socket in the glove box. Tucked all wires in the trim and did not have to remove one thing. Viofo A 129 gets rave pro reviews and has a new model out.

I have the 129 in one car and the 229 in another. The image from the 229 is fantastic. Super clear and easy to see details. Camera installed easily. Just be sure you have the settings right before you put it in as it can be annoying to push the buttons while in the car. The base holds the power port so you can’t bring it inside easily to adjust the settings once it’s installed.

old.reddit.com/r/dashcams is a good place to start, their sidebar / FAQ is good. It seems you need to spend ~~£150 on a good dash cam that can read number plates. I bought the dual viofo a129, seems like rlly good quality... Haven't had to use it yet, but on the things I do watch back ,quality is great. Seems like a common reccomendation to purchase.

No trouble at all! I keep a USB-C memory card reader in the car at all times to make it easy to view and download videos on the go. Not sure if I can find a night video but I'll have a look, if not I can probably take it out for a quick run round the block for you.  I don't recall looking into those, I watched an awful lot of reviews and it narrowed it down pretty quick to the Viofo for what I wanted personally - front and back, good video quality, but optional hardwiring.

I’ve got both a single and a dual unit in our cars and they’ve been largely flawless. I’ve had two incidents where they seemed to glitch out and record nothing but a factory reset and they’ve been fine again - and we are talking two incidents over at least five years now. For the price they’re a great buy IMO.

Get the Viofo A129 instead, it's the dual channel version. Rear camera plugs into a 2nd USB port with a provided cable. I used to use this until I switched over to a FitCamX recently. Sell the A119 to someone. Run the cable along the floor underneath the door still trim pieces and zip-tie or tape as needed to the floor wiring harness. (Or just shove it under the trim pieces through the gaps with the carpet, not too difficult) At the back, run it up the body through the rear door trim and C pillar, and go across towards the top center of the rear windshield underneath the headliner (be careful not to crease the headliner). You can power the main front camera using the USB 12V adapter or get your own OBD-II adapter. Just be careful that the OBD-II provides power all the time and you will eventually drain the battery.

Viofo is a fairly well regarded brand. The A129 is about $250 for a dual channel unit. Less for a single channel. The A119 is a slightly older version but goes for around $180 I think. They stand up fairly well in the Australian heat. A lot of cameras just cook in the closed cabin in the summer sun.

I have a Viofo A129 two-channel camera. One front facing and one mounted to the back tailgate window. You can run a wire from the back to the front to connect to the front camera. Not an ad but if you're in Scarborough, I had Safe and Sound on Nantucket near Kennedy Rd install it. Pretty solid job by them, wired up everything and hid the wires. Edit: a good SD card with lots of storage goes a long way.

Been using the viofo a129 for the past 5 years and still going well. Got the package one with front and rear cam included. It can also either be hard wired (with instructions) but I just plugged it in my auxiliary port cause I cant be bothered. Just tidied up the wirings and made sure its well tucked in the headboard as well as the pillars for a clean look. One important thing to consider as well is getting a good memory card. Make sure to get at least a high endurance/class 10 and ensure to refresh it every quarter or so.

People shit on the Viofo, but I've had nothing other than a good experience with the A129, and the fact it actually picks up license plates during the day AND at night, as well as recording at 60fps (reducing frame blur if you need to go frame by frame) for the $190 I paid for it on eBay is really good. That Linus dashcam comparison video was such an important watch as well. So many big brands just outright ripping people off.

I hardwired the Viofo A129 myself on my NA premium a while back but 4 months after installation, my car battery decided to not work bricking my entire car causing me to have to jump it and bring it to the dealership. Paid $195 for diagnostic just for them to write me a report on how I had a low voltage code and “possibly left a light on”. They also suspected the dashcam to be the issue but highly doubt it as I’ve had other dashcams hardwired into my other cars with motion recording. Voltage was set on 12V and 24V on the VIOFO hardwire kit. Made a post a while back titled “CX50 Bricked” if you wanna see how my car was

I've had a few different brands, currently have three viofo cameras in our vehicles. A129 is plenty good enough, a229 plus/ pro has a better sensor for night at a pretty steep price. I don't feel high dollar dashcams are worth buying, even a fuzzy picture with front and rear coverage is enough to prove fault. Having a license plate be legible is hit or miss even on the fancy ones, and rarely helps ya deal with insurance or nor will the cops chase down a hit and run in a city. I recommend a front and rear cam (the viofo records two videos, not one video with the rear overlayed) and something with either voice activation or a remote "emergency" record button. Viofo has a remote record button for 20 bucks that works on a few of their newer cameras.

I have a a229 pro and it's pretty good. Any cheapo dashcam (with front and rear recording) is enough to prove liability. Reading plates is pretty useless unless the other guy has insurance and the cops are bored enough to go find him, and he admits to being the driver. Honestly the a129 and a229 are very close image wise, the a229 does a bit better at night though.

I've had a Viofo A129 for a couple of years now, and I leave it in the car 24/7 without issues despite the heat and cold. As far as installing it, it shouldn't be too hard - look around on Youtube, there are tons of video tutorials so I'd be surprised if you can't find your specific car, then you'll know exactly what you're getting into. But the TL;DW is that you just pry back the head liner and the plastic covers around your door frame, run the wire behind them with some zip ties, and finally (assuming you have a fuse adapter kit, which I highly recommend), find the right fuse using your manual and/or a multi-meter then plug it in.

Congrats on making the right switch. My Viofo A129 which I purchased back in 2019 on AliExpress finally gave up. With updated type C wiring I am dreading upgrading to new ones since I hardwired mine. VIOFO is the way to go. It survived summers due to its super-capacitor design.

I got Viofo A129 in August ‘19 from AliExpress when it wasn’t sold here and it has been going strong despite few hiccups. The body has melted the lens became out of focus (so I disassembled and fixed it) the GPS module melted as well so couldn’t mount camera on it but the cameras still record and I still have it on my daily just without the GPS. Been thinking of putting dashcam on the other car and this might be it, with RWC400 it will be easier to mount on the split rear doors.

I used a VIOFO a129 for a few years. I ended up buying another one as I wanted a 4K camera. I hardwired it and hid the wires behind the paneling on my car so it wasn’t noticeable and I had front and rear cameras.  I ended up taking them out before I sold my car.

Viofo A129. I've had it hard wired into my cars for years at this point. They are always outside in the hot Phoenix summer. Make sure you get a high endurance SD card.

Viofo A129 or A229. Avoid Viofo A139, this model was nice because it had mini coax cables, but it's unreliable. When they start to fail they go into a boot loop randomly.

I got two Pruveeos 9 years ago. One is still going, but the other died after 6 years. I got a 2 channel Viofo for my wife's car. The rear camera died at 13 months which stopped the front from recording. I figured out that the front worked fine if I unplugged the rear. They wanted me to pay $40 for a replacement rear cam though it was still in warranty. I just tossed it and switched to Garmin. I'm not saying to buy Pruveeo the video quality sucks, but they were only $37.

I have the next step up from the one they tested and the Viofo is great, the 2 channel was easy to run, and I used a dongar pro, so power was super easy. https://preview.redd.it/fy856ri9mope1.png?width=1440&format=png&auto=webp&s=5afc3127ef5ff91ab75ebfce0f5e4b6e6f553df4

I would recommend a viofo dashcam, I've out mine to the left side of the mirror and down just far enough to see under the black dot Matrix port. It's got a great view of the road and I can easily reach the incident button if needed. I've got the 2 channel one so the rest camera is in the middle of the back. There are several options from them but anything more than 2K on the front feels excessive.

I have a 2 channel Viofo and it's really good. Viofo also has pretty regular sales too FYI. The GRC is really easy to run wires to the back and upper windshield with no wires showing too.

I put a Garmin mini dash cam in the wife’s Highlander using the mirror tap for power and a rearview mirror mount. In my pickup I run a 2 channel VIOFO. Thought I needed one with a screen but finding out it’s not that important. I like that the Garmin connects to home WiFi and automatically dumps saved videos.

VIOFO is a really popular brand. The front-rear one I installed in my cars have caught some interesting parked moments. The cameras look like TEMU junk but they are not. They work really well and are well respected among car enthusiasts.

Came here to say viofo. It's the best out of everything I've tried. Once the blackvue dies that's getting switch out to a viofo dual channel. Also everyone should check out plugging the USB power to the powered rearview mirror adapter if theirs is powered instead of running cables along the headliner and door.

It has repeatedly shown up as the top of pack across many reviews over many years. There are really only 2 or 3 sensors and boards for those cameras, so out of the ones with the best hardware it is the cheapest

For what it’s worth i have ZERO car experience and I got the viofo front and rear cam and used the donggar adapter to power it off the rain sensor behind the rear view mirror. I watched maybe 2 tutorials, went slow, and was able to get everything in place in well under an hour with no issues. The biggest hurdle was getting the wired connection from the front camera to the rear one so you could just skip the rear facing one for even less hassle. Highly recommend, super easy to do.

Viofo from hachielectronics. It plugs from my fake engine noise so it doesn't have to take up usb space nor have to do any fuse voodoo.

For install, look up a video on how to install one and it tells you which fuse to tap. You’ll have to drill a hole on the silver frame of the dashboard to get a ground but overall it’s not hard to install. I recommend Vioflo or Nextbase.

GKU D700 - around $122 on Amazon after coupon. Have 3 of these in our household and they’ve been flawless (installed with the hardwire kit for an extra $25ish). App is great, decent size touchscreen, good quality front and rear video and capacitor based I believe. Had Viofos in the past which didn’t last more than 1-2 years, so thought I’d give these a try.

I've owned several Viofos and I don't trust them anymore with their built in capacitors that died. I now have 70mai brand. Have the model A800S

I've owned a bunch of Viofos but have switched to 70mai for the Ioniq 5. But anyways, you should mount it on the plastic part with just the lens peeking enough to view the street. Or put it on the right side of the plastic housing. It's annoying having the dashcam visible in your eyeline.
