VIOFO - A129 Duo IR

I have the A129 Duo for the rear camera addition, been going strong for 6 years now in extreme heat and cold.

I have the A129 Duo but not the plus. If I recall there was a reason I avoided the plus. Like the low light wasn’t as good or something. It’s been a minute. I paid $127. My goal was to write a program that would pull off all the video over WiFi when I pulled into the driveway but when WiFi is enabled, it overheats in the summer. Also, the WiFi is sloooooooooow. It would basically take all night to pull all the video from the day. If I did it all over, I’d spend the extra money for one with better connectivity. I hate having to remove the card to bring it inside and I’m forever forgetting it in my computer. I did finally write a program to rip all the video, merge all the files from a drive into one, extract the GPS into a GPX file and then once done, it sends me a Telegram message every minute until I remove the card. This has prevented me from forgetting it.

I've got an A129 Duo, and I hardwired it to the fuse for an accessory that is operable without the key in the ignition (I think I wired it to the electronic seat adjuster fuse; is that what you mean by "parking kit?"). The only real con to a dual set is running cable from the front (main) cam to the back. It's not even particularly difficult, since the headliners pull back off the plastic trim very easily, so it's easy to run the cable, just time consuming. Hardwiring is a bit of a PITA, depending on where your fuse box is, and what style of fuses it has. Mine is tucked into the footwell under the dash on the passenger side and has the little mini fuses, which, combined, made it pretty difficult to wrap the power wire and plug the fuse back in. If you don't mind loose, visible cables, the kit comes with a USB power cable.

Viofo 3 camera think it's a 329a with parking mode , excellent set up and images. Roughly £300 + 50 professional fitting. Wife got the 129 viofo 2 camera system with parking mode

Yep. I've got 2 VIOFO A129 Duals - 1 in each car. Have had them going-on 7 or 8 years. They're only 1080p so about 4 years ago I decided I really wanted to upgrade to 2K or 4K resolution, but decided I'd wait until the A129 Duals died. Still waiting... I'll be buying VIOFO brand again, if the time ever comes.

They're rock solid. Mine have lasted 8 years in heat and bumpy roads and general neglect - they work so well that I forget they're there.

From the internet. Most of us get our VIOFO dashcams from Amazon. 8 years ago mine were about $200 each - I haven't looked at prices recently.

Be certain that whatever cam you buy has a built-in capacitor to handle hot interior temperatures. I’ve used a VIOFO A129 front & rear cam for years. And yes, get a front & rear cam, it’s worth it.

I bought the Viofo A129 (front and rear cameras) 5 1/2 years ago. I believe I paid $190. It's still working great. I highly doubt a $50 camera would have lasted this long.

Get that VIOFO, nice video quality, get the duo with front+rear and the kit.

Keep it simple. Viofo A129 or A229 Make sure you hard wire it.

I installed the VioFo A129 front and rear dash cam system. It was pretty straightforward. Just make sure you have a trim tool from Harbor freight. I use Viofo A129 on my cars. It’s top-rated for a reason - good price, 4K video recording, wifi connectivity, capacitor-powered (instead of batteries that bloat and degrade in heat), front and rear cameras. Newest model is now the A329.

Viofo A129 ish. Happy with the original on my car, bought the latest version for my partner's car. Cheap but reliable, wouldn't want to go any cheaper.

I absolutely loathe Best Buy, but they have a great installer near me, so he's done several cars for me and my son. We both have the Viofo A129. Have had it for over 5 years in the Texas heat and never one issue. Love having the front and rear cameras. (You also have to purchase the hardwire kit separately.)

Get a VIOFO and hardwire kit. It can do a type of sentry mode if it has constant power. I use the 119 and 129 front and rears on my vehicles, no problems in a few years so far.

Viofo A129 works amazing! I was using mine until I upgraded my vehicle that has one. No issues with overheating and you get both dash cams.

Viofo is my go-to. I've installed a119, a229, and a129. App is a little wonky sometimes but great picture and audio.

Viofo. Class leading image quality. Class leading longevity. Only middling price. The 119 is an excellent camera. I’ve had several of them, and a couple of 129. There’s a 329 series now, which looks good, but I doubt its image quality scales with its price. That’s the downfall of almost all dash cams.

Another vote for Viofo. They just work, and the wedge shaped 129 is almost invisible when installed well.

VIOFO A129, STARVIS2 sensor is amazing, fitcam is nicely integrated but the quality is not great and there have been some QC issues

I have a Garmin 57 in one car and a viofo in the other. My wife just bought a 25 and I installed the Garmin to the right and high. Running the cable was a delight since this car has a hidden 12v socket in the glove box. Tucked all wires in the trim and did not have to remove one thing. Viofo A 129 gets rave pro reviews and has a new model out.

What this guy said about the interference. The dealer will still say it is a problem, but that is not true. I have the Blackview, but I would get the A129 by viofo (I believe) as it has a screen so if the app is no more, you can still control it easier.

Viofo A119,A129, or A229 depending on what you’re looking for are all good. The cable thing you tuck it in behind your trim so it isn’t dangling. Going to be a thing for any dash cam.

As for the brand I have an volofo A129. One camera in front and one in thee rear. It's pretty nice and easy to install if you do it yourself Best sure it gets wired in for power for both car-running and no key power. It will stay in a suspended state but monitor for bumps, and start recording.

This is the advice I got from the owner of Dash cams Australia. Viofo A129 if you are on a budget and blackvue if you can afford it.

Dual channel if you can justify the higher price. Dual channel just means you get a rear camera too.

I would just go for the 129 for the second. But, yeah, just the lowest price Viofo is in the 90^th percentile for good choices.

I've had a few different brands, currently have three viofo cameras in our vehicles. A129 is plenty good enough, a229 plus/ pro has a better sensor for night at a pretty steep price. I don't feel high dollar dashcams are worth buying, even a fuzzy picture with front and rear coverage is enough to prove fault. Having a license plate be legible is hit or miss even on the fancy ones, and rarely helps ya deal with insurance or nor will the cops chase down a hit and run in a city. I recommend a front and rear cam (the viofo records two videos, not one video with the rear overlayed) and something with either voice activation or a remote "emergency" record button. Viofo has a remote record button for 20 bucks that works on a few of their newer cameras.

I have a a229 pro and it's pretty good. Any cheapo dashcam (with front and rear recording) is enough to prove liability. Reading plates is pretty useless unless the other guy has insurance and the cops are bored enough to go find him, and he admits to being the driver. Honestly the a129 and a229 are very close image wise, the a229 does a bit better at night though.

I've had an a129 viofo for a few years it still works but it's very inconsistent as far as recording when you need it to and doing random beeps that make no sense It's also extremely slow with Wi-Fi transfer are newer ones any better?

Thinkware, Blackvue or Viofo. I use an older Viofo A129.

There is a phone app you can pull from via a local Wi-Fi hotspot. I personally just pulled a microSD when I need it.

I've had a Viofo A129 for a couple of years now, and I leave it in the car 24/7 without issues despite the heat and cold. As far as installing it, it shouldn't be too hard - look around on Youtube, there are tons of video tutorials so I'd be surprised if you can't find your specific car, then you'll know exactly what you're getting into. But the TL;DW is that you just pry back the head liner and the plastic covers around your door frame, run the wire behind them with some zip ties, and finally (assuming you have a fuse adapter kit, which I highly recommend), find the right fuse using your manual and/or a multi-meter then plug it in.

My Viofo A129 lasted two years in Phoenix. I'm not sure why it eventually failed, but I was happy enough with it that I replaced it with the exact same model.

I like my A129 as well. But I’m coming up on 4 years with mine. I even use those reflective windshield heat deflectors too.

Once you get it started, keep pushing inch by inch and it goes pretty quick.

Congrats on making the right switch. My Viofo A129 which I purchased back in 2019 on AliExpress finally gave up. With updated type C wiring I am dreading upgrading to new ones since I hardwired mine. VIOFO is the way to go. It survived summers due to its super-capacitor design.

I used a VIOFO a129 for a few years. I ended up buying another one as I wanted a 4K camera. I hardwired it and hid the wires behind the paneling on my car so it wasn’t noticeable and I had front and rear cameras.  I ended up taking them out before I sold my car. 

Viofo A129 or A229. Avoid Viofo A139, this model was nice because it had mini coax cables, but it's unreliable. When they start to fail they go into a boot loop randomly.

Viofo a129 is by far the best image quality ive seen in a dashcam

For what it’s worth i have ZERO car experience and I got the viofo front and rear cam and used the donggar adapter to power it off the rain sensor behind the rear view mirror. I watched maybe 2 tutorials, went slow, and was able to get everything in place in well under an hour with no issues. The biggest hurdle was getting the wired connection from the front camera to the rear one so you could just skip the rear facing one for even less hassle. Highly recommend, super easy to do.

VIOFO is a really popular brand. The front-rear one I installed in my cars have caught some interesting parked moments. The cameras look like TEMU junk but they are not. They work really well and are well respected among car enthusiasts.

I have the Viofo front and rear combo. Bought from Amazon. Hardwired it in —- I did most of the installation but had Geek Squad finish it up for me when I had them replace the stock radio with a touch screen I bought from Crutchfield. 2015 LX

My exact setup as well.

I got two Pruveeos 9 years ago. One is still going, but the other died after 6 years. I got a 2 channel Viofo for my wife's car. The rear camera died at 13 months which stopped the front from recording. I figured out that the front worked fine if I unplugged the rear. They wanted me to pay $40 for a replacement rear cam though it was still in warranty. I just tossed it and switched to Garmin. I'm not saying to buy Pruveeo the video quality sucks, but they were only $37.

I would recommend a viofo dashcam, I've out mine to the left side of the mirror and down just far enough to see under the black dot Matrix port. It's got a great view of the road and I can easily reach the incident button if needed. I've got the 2 channel one so the rest camera is in the middle of the back. There are several options from them but anything more than 2K on the front feels excessive. 

I have a 2 channel Viofo and it's really good. Viofo also has pretty regular sales too FYI. The GRC is really easy to run wires to the back and upper windshield with no wires showing too.

I use a VIOFO, whatever the newer dual channel cam is. I am going to hard wire it in the near future for parking protection. It hasn’t let me down yet and has really good quality. Just pricey and had an older model fail years ago so not too sure about longevity yet, only had it about a year.

I have the Viofo dual channel. I hardwired it into the fuse panel. Works great so far.

I see. I myself have a Uniden R8 and double channel viofo dashcam. I think the uniden is on its 3rd year now and the dashcam I've had for 6 years...only changed the SD card.

The best cameras are the Viofos but the Fitcam is the easiest to install cleanly and looks OEM so it really depends on what you're after.

I've owned several Viofos and I don't trust them anymore with their built in capacitors that died. I now have 70mai brand. Have the model A800S

I've ran several viofos with no problems. Currently run a A119 V3. No problem easy install. Been running them for years. Usually if something is wrong, its the sd card.
