I have a VIOFO A129 Pro Duo hardwired on this and my precious CRV and it works fantastic.

I’ve had the VIOFO A129 Pro Duo for almost two years now and it’s been great. Hardwired it to two different cars and both cars work great still.

I have one for each car, hardwired.. one is going on 4 years flawless, the other is going on 2 years, flawless. A129pro duo.

I absolutely loathe Best Buy, but they have a great installer near me, so he's done several cars for me and my son. We both have the Viofo A129. Have had it for over 5 years in the Texas heat and never one issue. Love having the front and rear cameras. (You also have to purchase the hardwire kit separately.)

Curious if you still monitor this thread, hoping you can answer a few simple questions! I had my A129 Duo Pro for almost 3 years now, and recently the front camera lost some focus (can’t make out license plates well anymore). I’ve tried everything, but no luck! I’m considering upgrading to A329 or A229.  - what are the cables on A329? I’ve read here you said that 329 cables are the same as 229, but is it different from 129? Do I need to rewire my car? The front dash cam is easy, but rewiring the rear cam is going to be a pain - would you recommend and upgrade to 329 over 229 for a regular work-home commuter in a slightly unhinged Atlanta traffic?  - if I wanted to save a few pennies, could I theoretically keep the old 129 rear cam and hook it up to 329? Or nah? Thanks in advance!

I put the viofo A129 pro duo in my 19 and pulled it out a month ago after the car was totaled and reinstalled it in my 24. Was easy to hardwire with fuse taps. It doesn't like connecting to my android wirelessly so i pull the sd card if i want to check a video.

Viofo’s are a great value, but be cautious if you live in a high heat area. After 6 months of living in Phoenix (very hot summers, like 115 degrees), my A129 Pro Duo died. Replaced it under warranty and the second died within the next year because of over heating. Did thorough research and picked up a BlackVue 900X Plus and it’s been rock solid for the last 2 years.

I have a similar (but older) Viofo A129 Pro Duo setup and it's great. It's not as minimalist as the FitcamX, but using Scotch Extreme Velco Fasteners and attaching it to the plastic housing near the rearview mirror, it's a pretty minimal visibility install. Both the the sticky pad that came with the camera , and regular command-strips weren't up to the talk of holding the camera to the black plastic in the summer heat, but these heat-resistant velcro strips are great.

I have octavia mk4 facelift and I am running viofo 129 pro duo hardwired, could imagine a better one but this one does not give me a reason to switch. Saved my ass from an idiot backing up to me in my previous vehicle.

No cellular option, but that means no subscription/cellular plan needed. They sell on Amazon. I have had A129 Pro Duo for several years, it works great. I just bought a new car yesterday, and bought a new Viofo A229 Pro 3CH from Amazon yesterday around 4:30pm and Amazon delivered it around 8pm, the same day. I don't even have prime! Install is pretty straightforward. They use double sided tape to adhere to glass. The hard part is "hiding" the wires. It is not hard, it just takes a little finessing of body panels to tuck wires out of sight. That will let you use the 12v cigarette lighter or USB output with included hardware. A cleaner look is a "permanent" install kit. That just uses a fuse tap from the fuse panel in the passenger compartment and run the wire to there. It is super easy, you just have to find a fuse that is powered from the battery and not switched (by the key) to get parking mode recording too.

Firstly, only the expensive nextbase are really any good, don't go with those unless you wanna spend a decent amount. Secondly, I can highly recommend Viofo (I personally have an A129 pro duo) - most of them use Sonys newest sensor so the video quality is much better then comparable models, and they are quite budget friendly. Really easy, you just download the footage straight to your phone through the cameras built-in WiFi. I have the A129 Pro Duo, it takes approx 2 minutes to download 4 minutes of 4k footage (2 minutes from each camera). Out the box it’s set to record 1 minute of footage, but I prefer extra protection of 2. Buy it from Aliexpress, it’s cheaper than any of the resellers.

If ease of recording is important to you, I’d recommend finding the version of the A129 Pro Duo that comes with the optional Bluetooth Dash Button. It’s a little 1” x 1” black button that you can stick anywhere that’s easy to reach. One simple click and it saves the footage immediately. Another feature that’s cool; if you happen to click record when it’s close to the start or end of a loop it will automatically save the closest adjacent loop.

Viofo A129 Pro Duo 4K. I’ve had it for about 4 years now and it’s been great. 4k in the front, 1080p in the rear, parking mode. I just went on Amazon to make sure I was giving you the correct model and for some reason it has a 4.1 star so not sure what’s up with that. My experience has been great. I put Viofo A129 Plus Duo cams in all my families cars and so far they’ve all held up for over a year. This is the best & only dash cam video install you’ll need. It’s also done in a WRX. Make sure you pay close attention to 9:00 when he talks about wiring the add a fuse. That’s an important part most videos don’t talk about. All in all it’s pretty easy to install one. Had an VIOFO a129 pro dual in my other car and moved it to my CX-50 after. I think the new a229 plus dual is a pretty good deal for the price.

Anything with a Sony Starvis 2 sensor or a newer version so that you have the highest chance of being able to actually a plate when you need to. Viofo A229 Pro 2ch is what I installed in my wife's car, it has a Starvis 2 sensor. Very good video quality. I've got an older A129 Pro 2ch in my car. Even though it is not bad it is still hard to read plates.

It’s amazing in low-light settings and I don’t need WiFi capabilities since I keep a USC-C card reader so I can transfer files onto my phone super easily if I have to share the footage.

I mounted it left of the rear view mirror and centered at the top of my rear hatch window on my 24 wilderness. Used the 10 pin dongar adapter to wire into the mirror. Wiring that way doesn't do 24/7 recording but I didn't want that functionality. But I love it!

I have a VIOFO A129 Pro Duo on a 23 Pilot SE, and. Rexing V1 Pro on a 15 CRV EX. VIOFO is a better quality camera, and better software. I originally hardwired the Rexing dashcam on the CRV, but the hardwire kit didn’t do a good job at voltage management, and drained my battery. I had the Honda battery replaced twice under warranty (the max that Honda will do). Since then, I’ve wired the cams through the cigarette lighter port. While having the parking sensor seems like a really good idea, I’ve never gone back to review the footage of the car while parked. I live in a big city where bipping happens often, and nothing happened to my car. I’ve used the dashcam footage for an accident on the road, though. YMMV.

Have this one too. Attempted the firmware update which made rear came crap out. VIOFO sent me a new reverse cam free of charge. Highly recommend.

Second on Viofo. Have an A129 pro duo I think it is, front and rear cams. More pain to install the than a fitcam mostly the wiring, but it’s been solid running for 4-5 years now, moved it from my 2019 to my 2022 S60, video is always there when I need it, captures decent quality low bandwidth video in parking mode.

We have several of the A129 Pro Duo dashcams and are happy with them. Usually upgrades are not worth the cost IMHO if they are not drastically better. Of course this is subjective, so what is drastically better for one will not be drastically better for another. OP, can you post the review link here when released?

I have a Viofo dashcam. It's the A129 Pro Duo. A 2-channel dashcam. A wedge type with a little screen that attaches to the windshield. I placed it behind the rear view mirror. It's a 4K front and 1080p for rear camera. There's a long wire that goes from the front unit to the rear unit, the 2nd channel, to bring power and video. I have a hard-wire kit that I use with an add-a-circuit fuse tap to power it all the time. It also records when the car is off and parked. There are ones with 3 channels too to record the interior. Ones with voice notifications and that you can "control" using your voice. Really depends on the features you want. Go on Youtube and watch some reviews. See good models with the features you want. If you're trying to keep cost down then there are many versions out there. Go on Amazon and look for the ones in your price range. Features I'd say are good: - Front and back cameras - Parking mode with a buffer - Good quality video sensor - Resolution you want - Works/won't die in high-heat car interior Can get pretty expensive for the ones with more features. I bought mine a few years ago and spent around $200 with many of the available features. Many new features these days with corresponding increase in price. I installed it myself. Long wire to the back through headliner and hard wire kit from front dashcam to fuse box through headliner and down front/driver side A-pillar.

Had a Viofo A129 duo pro 4k on a previous vehicle until it was totaled and the dash cam worked as promised. Current vehicle has two Viofo A129 Mini 2's. Had a low speed impact and front cam failed to save the footage for some reason (had files from before and a file after, but the file containing the actual time of impact wasn't there). Rear unit recorded fine and was enough for me to submit to insurance. Haven't gotten to the bottom of why the front one did that yet (maybe it had too many protected or parking motion files because it tends to be pretty sensitive and will set those aside to not be overwritten). I've reformatted and check it occasionally now out of some paranoia. I got the kit minus the card and went for a SanDisk extreme card from the manufacturer for both units.

As a A129 Pro user, I can vouch for the ease of installation and quality footage. It’s already saved me a few times so would recommend them. The CPL filter is a must imo, there’s way too much glare when it’s sunny

Viofo A129 Duo. Skip the Plus - they removed the motion detection feature which is handy for parking up (can run it off a power bank and it'll sip power - or a hardwire kit which has a low voltage protection setting). Skip the Pro - not really worth the added cost for 4K imo and you'll need to spend more on an SD card.

I use Viofo 129a pro. It has sony starvis chip that has a better image quality at night. Been using it for 1 year, So far so good Have been driving last summer on 40c and its still ok.

There is no silver bullet in the dashcam market, sadly. I put so much thought into it, yet decided to get a VIOFO a129 pro, because I couldn’t wait anymore without a dashcam. It has served well, yet still can’t make out license plates in dusk time. Def recommend getting a 128 GB+ “endurance” sd card. My a129 pro was overheating until I turned off GPS recording I’m thinking about upgrading to an a229 3-channel, because front and back isn’t enough for me. Being a smaller car, I would feel better with side-covering cameras, but 360’s aren’t good enough as a one-stop-shop solution.

The A129 Pro is considered a legacy camera in 2024. Sure, it doesn't have the latest Starvis sensors, but if you are happy with the A129Pro then stick with what you like. Hard to say if the A329 is worth the upgrade as testing has just begun. Upgrading will ultimately be your choice if it will suit your needs. For the A229Pro, we have well over 150 units out in the field and have not had reports of any poor video quality on the front camera. When it comes to any mass produced electronics there's always a chance that something goes wrong. Wouldn't hurt to reach out to viofo tech support and have them review some footage.

Both the A229plus/ Pro and A329 use the HK4 usb C hardwire kit. A229Plus/Pro rear camera cable is USB-C to C. A329 IS COAXIAL. Upgrading from A129 pro to either of the above would require rewiring entirely. This unit uses the HK3 and Mini usb rear camera connection. The 229 family of cameras is a solid performer. The a329 dos have the upper edge. Should it fall within your budget, the a329 is worth the extra buck. Unfortunately, there is no saving pennies here. Thr a129 rear cam won't work with the a229 or a329.

Yep. I've got 2 VIOFO A129 Duals - 1 in each car. Have had them going-on 7 or 8 years. They're only 1080p so about 4 years ago I decided I really wanted to upgrade to 2K or 4K resolution, but decided I'd wait until the A129 Duals died. Still waiting... I'll be buying VIOFO brand again, if the time ever comes.

They're rock solid. Mine have lasted 8 years in heat and bumpy roads and general neglect - they work so well that I forget they're there.

From the internet. Most of us get our VIOFO dashcams from Amazon. 8 years ago mine were about $200 each - I haven't looked at prices recently.

Be certain that whatever cam you buy has a built-in capacitor to handle hot interior temperatures. I’ve used a VIOFO A129 front & rear cam for years. And yes, get a front & rear cam, it’s worth it.

I bought the Viofo A129 (front and rear cameras) 5 1/2 years ago. I believe I paid $190. It's still working great. I highly doubt a $50 camera would have lasted this long.

Get that VIOFO, nice video quality, get the duo with front+rear and the kit.

I have the viofo duo. Would not recommend because mine does overheat. I was in an accident end of july 2 years ago and it did not capture it. The shock of the crash did trigger the g sensor so i have the footage of my car on its side and the recovery process afterwards, but not the actual wreck itself. When its not overheated you have tl remember to reset it for it to start filming again. Very frustrating. It works good in the winter months but ive left it unplugged since about march

Could be i just have a defective unit as well but it worked fine for the first few months until it started heating up outside

All i know is it works fine in the winter but anything over 90 i have to reset it everytime i turn the car on. And it wont turn on and let me reset it until its cooled off

Keep it simple. Viofo A129 or A229 Make sure you hard wire it.

I installed the VioFo A129 front and rear dash cam system. It was pretty straightforward. Just make sure you have a trim tool from Harbor freight. I use Viofo A129 on my cars. It’s top-rated for a reason - good price, 4K video recording, wifi connectivity, capacitor-powered (instead of batteries that bloat and degrade in heat), front and rear cameras. Newest model is now the A329.

Viofo A119 or A129, or really anything from their line. I've used the same unit since 2019 and it has worked perfectly ever since, holds up to below zero temps as well as 100+ F days. Power is done via a Dongar adapter.

Get a VIOFO and hardwire kit. It can do a type of sentry mode if it has constant power. I use the 119 and 129 front and rears on my vehicles, no problems in a few years so far.

Viofo A129 works amazing! I was using mine until I upgraded my vehicle that has one. No issues with overheating and you get both dash cams.

Viofo is my go-to. I've installed a119, a229, and a129. App is a little wonky sometimes but great picture and audio.

Viofo. Class leading image quality. Class leading longevity. Only middling price. The 119 is an excellent camera. I’ve had several of them, and a couple of 129. There’s a 329 series now, which looks good, but I doubt its image quality scales with its price. That’s the downfall of almost all dash cams.

Another vote for Viofo. They just work, and the wedge shaped 129 is almost invisible when installed well.

VIOFO A129, STARVIS2 sensor is amazing, fitcam is nicely integrated but the quality is not great and there have been some QC issues

I have a Garmin 57 in one car and a viofo in the other. My wife just bought a 25 and I installed the Garmin to the right and high. Running the cable was a delight since this car has a hidden 12v socket in the glove box. Tucked all wires in the trim and did not have to remove one thing. Viofo A 129 gets rave pro reviews and has a new model out.

What this guy said about the interference. The dealer will still say it is a problem, but that is not true. I have the Blackview, but I would get the A129 by viofo (I believe) as it has a screen so if the app is no more, you can still control it easier.

Viofo A119,A129, or A229 depending on what you’re looking for are all good. The cable thing you tuck it in behind your trim so it isn’t dangling. Going to be a thing for any dash cam.

Any that fits your budget. You are not gonna be look at license plate numbers. You need it for big accident and evidence purposes. I had a PAPAGO GoSafe 535 I purchased in 2018. I remember actually only bothering to check the footage once to see if I caught the accident that happened on the cross street while I was at a red light. I paid 121 back then. I bought the VIOFO 129 or some other model again last year for 140 or something, have not had to use it once, infact I am unable to use it now cause it keeps falling in the texas summer heat. I do see a benefit in getting a rare facing and front facing one, but no use in spending big money for it, go to market place and get used one and call it a day. The only place I would recommend spending money is on a decent microsd card, you dont want data to go corrupt when you actually need it lol.

As for the brand I have an volofo A129. One camera in front and one in thee rear. It's pretty nice and easy to install if you do it yourself Best sure it gets wired in for power for both car-running and no key power. It will stay in a suspended state but monitor for bumps, and start recording.

This is the advice I got from the owner of Dash cams Australia. Viofo A129 if you are on a budget and blackvue if you can afford it.

Dual channel if you can justify the higher price. Dual channel just means you get a rear camera too.

I would just go for the 129 for the second. But, yeah, just the lowest price Viofo is in the 90^th percentile for good choices.

I've had a few different brands, currently have three viofo cameras in our vehicles. A129 is plenty good enough, a229 plus/ pro has a better sensor for night at a pretty steep price. I don't feel high dollar dashcams are worth buying, even a fuzzy picture with front and rear coverage is enough to prove fault. Having a license plate be legible is hit or miss even on the fancy ones, and rarely helps ya deal with insurance or nor will the cops chase down a hit and run in a city. I recommend a front and rear cam (the viofo records two videos, not one video with the rear overlayed) and something with either voice activation or a remote "emergency" record button. Viofo has a remote record button for 20 bucks that works on a few of their newer cameras.

I have a a229 pro and it's pretty good. Any cheapo dashcam (with front and rear recording) is enough to prove liability. Reading plates is pretty useless unless the other guy has insurance and the cops are bored enough to go find him, and he admits to being the driver. Honestly the a129 and a229 are very close image wise, the a229 does a bit better at night though.

I've had an a129 viofo for a few years it still works but it's very inconsistent as far as recording when you need it to and doing random beeps that make no sense It's also extremely slow with Wi-Fi transfer are newer ones any better?

There is a phone app you can pull from via a local Wi-Fi hotspot. I personally just pulled a microSD when I need it.

I've had a Viofo A129 for a couple of years now, and I leave it in the car 24/7 without issues despite the heat and cold. As far as installing it, it shouldn't be too hard - look around on Youtube, there are tons of video tutorials so I'd be surprised if you can't find your specific car, then you'll know exactly what you're getting into. But the TL;DW is that you just pry back the head liner and the plastic covers around your door frame, run the wire behind them with some zip ties, and finally (assuming you have a fuse adapter kit, which I highly recommend), find the right fuse using your manual and/or a multi-meter then plug it in.

My Viofo A129 lasted two years in Phoenix. I'm not sure why it eventually failed, but I was happy enough with it that I replaced it with the exact same model.

I like my A129 as well. But I’m coming up on 4 years with mine. I even use those reflective windshield heat deflectors too.

Once you get it started, keep pushing inch by inch and it goes pretty quick.

Congrats on making the right switch. My Viofo A129 which I purchased back in 2019 on AliExpress finally gave up. With updated type C wiring I am dreading upgrading to new ones since I hardwired mine. VIOFO is the way to go. It survived summers due to its super-capacitor design.

I used a VIOFO a129 for a few years. I ended up buying another one as I wanted a 4K camera. I hardwired it and hid the wires behind the paneling on my car so it wasn’t noticeable and I had front and rear cameras.  I ended up taking them out before I sold my car. 

Viofo A129 or A229. Avoid Viofo A139, this model was nice because it had mini coax cables, but it's unreliable. When they start to fail they go into a boot loop randomly.

Viofo a129 is by far the best image quality ive seen in a dashcam

For what it’s worth i have ZERO car experience and I got the viofo front and rear cam and used the donggar adapter to power it off the rain sensor behind the rear view mirror. I watched maybe 2 tutorials, went slow, and was able to get everything in place in well under an hour with no issues. The biggest hurdle was getting the wired connection from the front camera to the rear one so you could just skip the rear facing one for even less hassle. Highly recommend, super easy to do.

VIOFO is a really popular brand. The front-rear one I installed in my cars have caught some interesting parked moments. The cameras look like TEMU junk but they are not. They work really well and are well respected among car enthusiasts.

I have the Viofo front and rear combo. Bought from Amazon. Hardwired it in —- I did most of the installation but had Geek Squad finish it up for me when I had them replace the stock radio with a touch screen I bought from Crutchfield. 2015 LX

My exact setup as well.

I got two Pruveeos 9 years ago. One is still going, but the other died after 6 years. I got a 2 channel Viofo for my wife's car. The rear camera died at 13 months which stopped the front from recording. I figured out that the front worked fine if I unplugged the rear. They wanted me to pay $40 for a replacement rear cam though it was still in warranty. I just tossed it and switched to Garmin. I'm not saying to buy Pruveeo the video quality sucks, but they were only $37.

I would recommend a viofo dashcam, I've out mine to the left side of the mirror and down just far enough to see under the black dot Matrix port. It's got a great view of the road and I can easily reach the incident button if needed. I've got the 2 channel one so the rest camera is in the middle of the back. There are several options from them but anything more than 2K on the front feels excessive. 

I have a 2 channel Viofo and it's really good. Viofo also has pretty regular sales too FYI. The GRC is really easy to run wires to the back and upper windshield with no wires showing too.

I use a VIOFO, whatever the newer dual channel cam is. I am going to hard wire it in the near future for parking protection. It hasn’t let me down yet and has really good quality. Just pricey and had an older model fail years ago so not too sure about longevity yet, only had it about a year.

I have the Viofo dual channel. I hardwired it into the fuse panel. Works great so far.

I see. I myself have a Uniden R8 and double channel viofo dashcam. I think the uniden is on its 3rd year now and the dashcam I've had for 6 years...only changed the SD card.

The best cameras are the Viofos but the Fitcam is the easiest to install cleanly and looks OEM so it really depends on what you're after.

I've owned several Viofos and I don't trust them anymore with their built in capacitors that died. I now have 70mai brand. Have the model A800S

I've ran several viofos with no problems. Currently run a A119 V3. No problem easy install. Been running them for years. Usually if something is wrong, its the sd card.
