VIOFO - A129 Pro (Front Only)

Viofo a229 4k front and rear and backup a129 pro front only in Octavia vrs.

Any dashcam from Viofo. Choose the model that fit your needs. I use A129 Pro at the front, powered by OBD port, so it gets power 24/7 for parking mode. Warn you this may stress the 12V battery. For the back I have a A119 V3 (from my old car) connected to the cigarette port. So no parking mode as the port cuts power when the car is locked. It depends on how much you want to have recorded around you, and how much you're wiling to spend. I have a Nofio A129 4K dashcam and it's fantastic. I don't have it hardwired, I just plug it in when I'm driving and unplug it when I park so it doesn't drain my battery ('01 Silverado's have their 12V sockets always powered) Just starting out, wanting to get a good cam but not spend too much, I'd recommend a 4K Viofio camera that's just forward-facing. If you're paranoid about someone rear-ending you, then get a forward and backward facing camera kit. Only reason I say 4K is so you have a much better chance of being able to make out someone's license plate in the footage if a hit and run happens.

I have the Thinkware U3000 2 channel. It fits my needs but I miss the screen my viofo a129 pro had. The rear camera on the Thinkware fits under my rear sunshade which is why I went with this one.

My favorite app to use is Qubo, it’s very user friendly and it’s a breeze to set up and get it running. My favorite image quality is Vantrue, it’s pristine and read things super clear, day and night. My best VFM has to be 70mai tho because the Vantrue is nice but pricey and 70mai does 90% of the stuff for a fraction of the cost. Have you seen/heard about problems with video retention after impact? My A129Pro lost 2 months of video after a major crash including video of the crash itself.

I’ve had the VIOFO a129 pro in my truck for over 3 years and the a229 pro 3 channel in my Prius almost 2 years. From all my research the a229 is the best price to picture quality you can get. I’ve never had an issue with license plates being unreadable. I’ve got both hardwired in so they record even when the cars off. Phone app works good enough to pull footage and show cops on the scene of an accident.

I’ve had my VIOFO a129 pro on my truck that’s parked outside 24/7 for almost 3 years, no issues with that one. I’ve never had either the a129 or a229 have issues with the heat.

Viofo has always been the sweet spot of bang for buck IMO. On the high end, the A229 Pro gets you the same top tier STARVIS 2 image sensor for $120 less than the Blackvue DR970X. On the lower end, you can get a 4K A129 Pro for less than the cost of Blackvue’s 1080p DR590X model. Blackvue has the benefit of form factor, being manufactured in Korea instead of China, and a much, much better app though.

I had good luck with a Viofo A129 Pro. Make sure it is the pro version of the A129 or it is not likely to be a 4K camera. They may have them on sale at times even. The A129 Pro was once a lot more expensive and the price came down. I think it is on sale for $199 plus taxes and possible tariffs (sadly). I am not sure if they do free shipping but shop around and don't pay some absurd price for it. Viofo was good and sent it out quickly enough, no waiting a month or more. They were even good when I ordered accessories from them, no long waits. Those accessories were polarizing filters and a remote to lock videos with so you don't have to reach up to save it. I don't know how the picture quality compares to others but it is not the worst at night, just not the best for night. Works good in the day time. It should also give you an idea how far away a plate can be captured and still readable. On the sides of the video, a lot of cameras can make it hard to read the plate as you may have noticed with a lot of other people's clips.

 I'm using a VIOFO A129 Pro. If I would buy a new one today it would probably be the A229 Pro.
