I agree with the Project Farm link, he does a very good comparison, I was glad to see the brand that I originally researched and went with was still the best all around choice. I have 3 VIOFO cameras (119, 229, 229 Duo) setups with a 4th one (329 3-way) in transit as I type this. Not only have they been super reliable and provide the best resolution possible, but they run off a super capacitor (vs battery) so they tolerate the heat (thus adding to the reliability. Depends on what you want it to do. I just ordered the 329 3-way setup for my daughter that just recently started driving and I wanted to be as thorough as possible (night/day, outside/inside, front/back/sides) so she is protected from a "your word against theirs" type situation. I've seen too many YouTube videos where having a single camera wasn't enough, or an officer claiming a driver was on their phone when they were just eating a sandwich, etc. In the long run, a dashcam can pay for itself 1000x over if, heaven forbid, something happens on the road. It would suck to trade quality, reliability, and picture quality for a few bucks. This is just my opinion and experience.

Viofo a229 duo with the black box my car battery. Hardwired but doesn’t put strain on my car battery. This is only relevant cos I park outside at work in -30C and the car battery only works for 2 hours before the low voltage cutoff. The dedicated battery keeps parking mode going the whole day.

I have the VIOFO A229 Plus Duo and HK4 hardwire kit. I did need to buy [Micro3 ATM](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CJBQLVJ9) fuse tap to fit the fuse size since the ones included were too big. I followed this [YouTube](https://youtu.be/Z8OTo4cA7uI?si=rX0VsVta9cJoA2hH) video. Made sure to zip tie the cables on the pillar so they don't interfere with the side curtain air bags.

I used Viofo in my truck and personal. A229 Duo for my car. I have an older A119 mini for my daycab mounted with a c-clamp arm. They've been around a long time and make good stuff.

I got this camera for almost a year now and so far all good, even changed cars in between. I’m only now experiencing summer for the first time with it so we’ll see how it affects it but even if something happens, Viofo’s customer support is very good, they answer in about 24 hours and if there’s an unfixable issue, they send a new unit (whether camera, sd card or any of their accessories)

Second this, but I plugged my Viofo a229 Plus Duo (has front & rear camera) into the DC port, and tucked wires into pillars and weather stripping without needing to remove it from doors. HTH.

Not OP but I have a Viofo A229 Duo with 5% tint and it works great. May need to turn the exposure up a touch but its a great cam

Another recommendation for VIOFO. I’ve had a A129 plus duo hardwired in my car for 2+ years now, and hardwired an A299 plus duo in my wife’s car early last year. Both have been fantastic. If you want to hardwire them to get parking mode, make sure you get the hardwire get. You will also need to buy fuse taps. The install isn’t hard, just a bit tedious, especially if your fuse box is under your steering column. Typically you will need to take off a few internal trim pieces as well as the weather seal around the drivers side door. No matter which camera you get, make sure you get the high endurance microSD cards designed to be written over repeatedly. Standard microSD cards will get worn out quickly. Each brand of camera typically lists the type of microSD cards they suggest from various companies.

I went for A229 Plus Duo (2k front and back). These Viofo cameras with the second generation Sony STARVIS sensors seem to work well. It's a huge upgrade from the Blackvue GW650 I've been using since 2016. I just hope the VIOFO is as well made, once you have a good one it's not worth upgrading all the time!

I got the viofo a229 back during summer sale. Was like $149. Starvis 2 for clearing night shots. 2k front and rear. Also have a port to add a 3rd camera of you want to. Accident 2 weeks after instally myself. Instantly locked the video and downloaded it to phone with 5g in like 20 sec. Was able to send clip right to insurance and allowed me to not be at fault. Edit- also, the difference between 4k and 2k is not much on a dash cam. I've had both and ended up saving money and still having clear pictures and video.

Thats the price now? I forgot the memory card in the price. When I purchased it was on sale for 149. What they don't mention when I was looking for a camera is the extra port to add a 3rd camera if you want to.

If that's in your price range go for it. Mine has been great. Phone app makes finding the video and downloading painless.

Using the VIOFO A229 front and rear 1440p. I’ve had. VIOFO cams in 2 previous cars and they have always worked well for me.

I went with Viofo a few years ago Front and back camera, came with a hard wire kit (very easy to do yourself, took like an hour to run the wires and hard wire it) Nothing more to really say Regardless of what you go with you’ll have a hard time with nighttime license plates I would say go 4k if you can afford it, but looks like their 2k model is like $200 and that’s the one I have

R/dashcams can probably give you better answers than here. I just installed a Viofo A229 plus which has 2k front and rear camera. For the price it seems great so far and highly recommended for the price point. I installed myself in a few hours with all wires hidden. If you only want a front facing camera and not a rear camera, the install is really simple especially if you use the Dongar adapter that lets you get power from the rearview mirror. There aren't any wire to hide when using the Dongar adapter and a front facing only camera. The time consuming part will be the wiring to a rear facing camera and/or wiring the power to the fuse box under the hood if you want the camera to record when the car is off.

So I use a VIOFO A229+, I mean it has 2.4-inch screen and there a setting that can show Live Video Source: Front camera / Rear camera / Rear Overlaid / Front Overlaid. So it’s possible that you can look through a 2.4in screen and that you can look at to see behind you. But honestly it’s just too damn small. I would rather turn my head and look behind me. If your interested in a backup camera in a headunit, that has a 7in - 10in screen that would be more ideal.

I have the viofo a229 - 2 camera (front and rear) and I love it.

I did it myself and it was super easy besides running the wire through the wire grommet of my rear hatch. But if you don’t have a hatchback or suv you don’t have to worry about it. I suggest the VIOFO a229 dual channel dash camera. It has the Sony starvis2 sensor which is generally accepted to be the best sensor, and it has parking recording and capacitors instead of batteries. Watch a couple YouTube videos on how to hardwire it and you’ll be set.

I've used Viofo for more than 10 years with no issues. I recently upgraded to a A229 duo channel which is $300 but my A119 still works great if you want to go less expensive

My VIOFO A119 has lasted more than 5 years in Texas weather. (+120° to 0°). I recently upgraded to the A229 and I'm sure it will hold up just as well.

I wanted the fitcamx initially too but ended up using the rear view mirror connector for the comma 3x instead so I got a separate dashcam to go on the side, a229 2 channel if you are curious.

viofo a119 as a basic single camera that works well. you can move up from there and spend an astounding amount of money if you want to . I would get an A229 dual channel front and rear for $320 or so off Amazon. depending on your car, they can be easy or a complete pain in the arse to install. single channels are normally fairly easy to install, running the cable to the back in a hidden manner and getting it to the back window can be challenging.

I have the Viofo A229 Dual dashcam installed with a hardwiring kit in my car and in retrospect I feel I should have gone for something cheaper. So to you I would recommend something like the 70mai A510 dual dashcam. I feel it's better to have a dual dashcam in a country like ours. It helped me just recently in my insurance claims process when a 3 wheeler driving on the opposite side of the road rammed my fender and took off my front bumper as I was making a U-turn. This model sells for 14k on Amazon, has a Sony Starvis 2 sensor and basically all the features my Viofo dashcam has plus a lot more. I would recommend going through some reviews to know if you can turn off the "ADAS" features of this camera as I can see those being quite annoying. And yes I would recommend hardwiring for a nice factory finish. That way the front socket can be free to plug in a high watt mobile charger to get fast charging on your phone. Hardwiring will enable you to use parking recording. To be honest there are no cons to hardwiring except the knowledge and some skill needed to do this installation. I feel there are enough tutorial videos on YouTube to help you do the installation yourself but if you're not comfortable doing it, you could pay a professional installer for it. You can buy the hardwiring kit and a CPL filter (if there is one) for the 70mai A510 and still be nowhere close to the budget you'd need for the Viofo A229 whose sensor is now last gen.

I use a Viofo 229 front and rear. Hard wired for parking and routed to the back. Very good visibility at night and day with polarizing lense.

Most VIOFOs, specially the more recent ones like the A129s, A229s, and A329s can be hardwired and voltage regulated to your vehicle and run in parking mode for several hours off your car's battery with the appropriate hardwire kit. That means it won't drain your battery and you don't have to purchase another unit to power it. They also have rear and interior cameras for covering more than one side of the car.

Did research and ended up with a VIOFO two channel. Had it installed professionally.

I've had a few different brands, currently have three viofo cameras in our vehicles. A129 is plenty good enough, a229 plus/ pro has a better sensor for night at a pretty steep price. I don't feel high dollar dashcams are worth buying, even a fuzzy picture with front and rear coverage is enough to prove fault. Having a license plate be legible is hit or miss even on the fancy ones, and rarely helps ya deal with insurance or nor will the cops chase down a hit and run in a city. I recommend a front and rear cam (the viofo records two videos, not one video with the rear overlayed) and something with either voice activation or a remote "emergency" record button. Viofo has a remote record button for 20 bucks that works on a few of their newer cameras.

People keep mentioning the fitcamx because it looks oem. However, it struggles with license plate captures. It overexposes a lot during sunny days so it's shiny and makes license plates hard to read at times. Also blurry footage at night. It does a good job capturing video if all you care about i seeing the accident, but the purpose of the camera is to provide it to police and insurance. License plates are unreadable unless close up. Id recommend Viofo 229 plus/pro or the Vantrue n4 pro Edit* the fitcamx also lacks GPS meaning it cant show your car speed or location other things that may help corroborate your story in the event of an accident.

I also have the Plus version of this and have been happy with it. I emailed FitCamX about their image sensor and they don't have one of the industry standard Sony Starvis2 sensors, that plus the sample footage they sent me was enough to dissuade me.

A229 Plus/Pro family of cameras are great. We have had great success with their lineup. 3ch camera systems definitely have their place. the A329 is for a niche group of clientele. There will always be individuals who seek the latest and greatest. No 3 channel support, but the ride share market often gravitate to budget options. SSD is pretty cool if you really want to save lots of video footage. For the average commuter, a 128GB-256GB is plenty of video recording. We're in the process of planning the testing road map. I am looking forward to seeing what this new device has to offer as well.

The A129 Pro is considered a legacy camera in 2024. Sure, it doesn't have the latest Starvis sensors, but if you are happy with the A129Pro then stick with what you like. Hard to say if the A329 is worth the upgrade as testing has just begun. Upgrading will ultimately be your choice if it will suit your needs. For the A229Pro, we have well over 150 units out in the field and have not had reports of any poor video quality on the front camera. When it comes to any mass produced electronics there's always a chance that something goes wrong. Wouldn't hurt to reach out to viofo tech support and have them review some footage.

Both the A229plus/ Pro and A329 use the HK4 usb C hardwire kit. A229Plus/Pro rear camera cable is USB-C to C. A329 IS COAXIAL. Upgrading from A129 pro to either of the above would require rewiring entirely. This unit uses the HK3 and Mini usb rear camera connection. The 229 family of cameras is a solid performer. The a329 dos have the upper edge. Should it fall within your budget, the a329 is worth the extra buck. Unfortunately, there is no saving pennies here. Thr a129 rear cam won't work with the a229 or a329.

The A329 is a 2channel camera only. For the A229 Pro the bit rate is not affected in front/rear configurations. With the addition of the Interior IR, the bitrate does drop for the front camera (marginally) Robert from RetroCarGuy530 has in depth bitrate testing on DCT (dashcamtalk),and has a wealth of knowledge far surpassing our more simplistic testing.

I love this brand. I have yet to see anyone else with such good quality. I have the 129, 229 and the recent 329 version in my truck. No issues at all. Money well spent.

Whatever you pick, I’d recommend against a camera that dangles off a mount unless it’s very small. I tried a Thinkware Q200 but I had to take it off immediately bc the Tacoma windshield is so small, it distracted my view no matter where I tried mounting it. I got a Viofo A229 instead and like another commenter, I mounted it in the black dot area of the windshield next to the mirror and I hardly notice it.

Been looking into this as well. I like my Viofo A229 in my Mustang, and will eventually buy one for the new CX-50 but with the preferred trim the hard wiring seems to be the hardest part with no sunroof or frameless mirror. Would love to know if others have done it and whether they went into the engine bay through the firewall or tapped in somewhere else

We had a FitCamX hardwired in our 24 Ioniq 5 and it would not loop record. I had 2 very close calls the FitCamX completely missed. FitCamX could not resolve why my camera would not work, and after 1 month of trying, I yanked it out and replaced it with a Viofo A229 that has been flawless. I have ours setup for recording when parked, a function the FitCamX failed at as well. A lot of people report good experience with FitCamX but that wasn't my use case. When we were troubleshooting the FitCamX, it had a Beta testing vibe to the process. FitCamX will relentlessly work with you to their credit and when I returned the camera to them, they fully refunded me without any prodding.

My thought as well. The SD card must be the higher-quality Extreme or Industrial use. You may experience irratic behaviors that are unexplainable in some cases. The lower quality SD cards can be more exposed to vibration while writing to the card. The speed on the higher quality are much faster, ~190 Mbs per second enabling writing your video clips to the SD less read/write errors or video loss. The lower quality SD card writes about ~100Mbs per second also half the speed of the higher end. I have owned Viofo for at least ten years and have not been disappointed. The continue to add features or benefits to their product mix. I have undated the firmware to the latest version. Like any technology updating your firmware that is recommended by the OEM is key to any satisfaction. The A229 and 329 dash cams have very fast video and snapshot photos or parking mode. THIS would probably explain your to slow message when it reads the card or formats the card it sees a low speed transfer or read/write. Anyways, Best dash cam I have used.

I have absolutely no idea why it failed. It wasn't baking in the sun, didn't fall, nothing of more. It just stopped turning on. I tried another power cable for it and still wouldn't turn on or anything. When I complained they offered a refund, not a replacement or repair so I never heard back what was wrong with it. I've had a viofo a229 since then and it's much better, no issues at all.

The new lenses are a game changer! This new 4K +60 FPS will be amazing to act as both recording high quality video clips for my drives in the desert while also have the security of a dash cam! I love the customer service of the VIOFO UAE team. They really know their stuff, and they helped me pick out some models for friends and family. They answered every query I had, which is super rare these days, and the Installation was easy. What I would love to see in future models is a screen-free model, since many of my friends and family are seniors, and they don't want additional screens occupying the windshield. A discrete model that just covers the front and rear will be a great addition to the current lineup. I understand this may be challenging to implement, as the control module needs some space. My recommendation would be to have a covered control box that could be hidden under the dashboard. And the camera unit itself could be really slim and attached to the control box through cables. Just how we currently implement rear-view cams. Just the camera lens running the wires to the front unit, which is acting as both front camera and control box. Doesn't have to be 4k or even 2K units, even a simple 1080P Unit would be useful to act as a security feature and number plate readings. Huge fan of the VIOFO A229 lines, would love one for my personal car!

Installation could be dead simple if you arent hardwiring, I would just use the usb port in the glove box. But if youre hardwiring, its fairly straightforward. Hardest part is tucking the cables under the headliner as its pretty tight. The most consistent and best dash cam Ive used has been the viofo a229, get the cam with the amount of cameras you want/need and get the hardwire kit. For the 718, theres two empty slots that you just use the add a fuse on that comes with the kit

I have a Vantrue N4pro and Viofo A229. Genuinely this post is so great to create visibility to the general audience of how useful a dashcam really is. I hope it goes to someone who really needs it. A dashcam is truly a need with how driving has gotten.

Dashcams tend to be sensitive to the type of micro SD card you put in them. Viofo recommends only a couple of different types of card for their dashcams. So there's many reasons why that reviewer's dashcam didn't capture his daughter's curb hit. I have used the Viofo A229 as well as the newer A329; both are excellent cameras. Good build quality, nice features, and highly configurable. I've had mine installed throughout two brutal Houston summers (my G70 lives outdoors) and it has survived without problem. I prefer the A329 because it can record to an SSD, which I prefer for several reasons. Good camera -- I recommend it.

Never had issues with mine shutting down or freezing up in Arizona, and I’ve had the same model tor about 3 years. Maybe just bad luck on a unit? Have you tried turning on the WiFi and seeing on your phone if maybe it’s just the screen freezing up or something, and it’s actually still recording.

I also use Viofo, the A229 front and rear. Hardwired to the fusebox and it works great. Just have to not use sentry mode or it'll drain your 12v battery quickly

I opted for the VIOFO A229 hardwired. Some tricky parts to feed the wire to the back but overall fairly easy if you wanted to diy it if so inclined. When I looked for installers Best Buy was cheapest here at $99 and stereo installers ranged up to $150. That was for front and back cams and hardwiring it in.

Most of the SD card issues is due to using slower cards that aren’t recommended and not reformatting it every so often. The jury is still out why the Viofos sometime lose recordings that are locked, it’s probably an SD card that’s too fragmented resulting in the unit buffering and ultimately losing the video as the write speeds drop. But the true 4k (not upscale 1080p like Rove), HDR, etc made me go for the Viofo. A lot of reviewers on YouTube use the A229 as the benchmark for video quality. The units do look old and I wish they looked more like thinkware but it’s hidden behind my rear view mirror so I could care less.

A229 from Viofo for me. Picture quality is solid. Best bet is look at all the footage shared on here of numptys and look at the bottom to see what camera recorded it.

Yes, I have this same exact issue! It would record all night in parking mode, but during the day in summer months, while I am at work, it will shut off around 12 pm. Tbh Idk what the solution could be. I wish Viofo offers us some advice. Perhaps the newer models can withstand heat better. But those cost around 500 😵‍💫

Personal vouch for VIOFO A229 with the dual cams. Bought mine from Hachi with the adapter cable to connect it to the ASC port under the passenger side of the dash. Works like a charm, everything was super easy. Also he's a pretty cool guy

VIOFO a229, or basically dashcam that has new Sony starvis2 sensor, viofo was the best quality among others on capturing plates, check comparison on YouTube, its night and days, after all I think what matter most on a dash cam is the ability to capture the plates.

I have the Viofo A229 front and rear dash cam on my 2014 Odyssey, and the video quality seems really good. The main benefit is that if you’re in a crash, you have evidence—but that could backfire if the accident is your fault. I’m a noob when it comes to installing this stuff, and I’d say it was of medium difficulty. The hardest parts were removing the panels to ensure the wires don’t interfere with the airbags, finding the correct fuse that allows the camera to turn on in accessory mode, and routing the camera wire from the rear hatch into the main cabin. There are plenty of videos online about this. I also found CR-V and Pilot installation videos helpful since their setups are pretty similar.

Viofo 229, tucks in super clean next to the lss+ items. I power it through a splicer in the homelink mirror system. Run my rear cam wires along the a pillar and headliner , down the door trims down along the bottom. Ultra clean in my is500

Viofo A229 or anything above that. 2K-4K, single or double channel. I have one and ran the cable up thru the pillar, by the top of the windshield, popped out the black cover next to the rearview and then popped the power cord out there. Fits perfectly.

Go to the dashcam sub. Better resource than here. Tl;Dr Is that you can use your dashcam video to avoid those "he said she said" bullshit things when an accident happens. Get a 2 channel, minimum (front and rear). There are even 4 channel units out there but they're hella complicated to install. 3 channel isn't super important unless you're doing like, Uber or something. Get a Viofo A229 (plus or pro) dual channel. I forget which one is better.

Haha, same model here. And the same model I recommended on my response. Damn good camera for the price. Could also rig up an old GoPro or two with a little work if you've got them lying around. Oh and as far as "backfire". I mean, data gets corrupted by police departments all the time. Who's to say your dashcam was even working?

I use two VIOFO Dash Cam A119 V3 2K 2560x1440P (front and rear). Stay away from WiFi and modern stuff. A229 is cool and so, but for the price of one you'll get two 119-s. Quality is outstanding, just use TS file format instead of MP4. I use three position toggle switch to choose between ignition "ON" and always "ON" instead of parking mode. My dashcams are directly connected to a fuse box and look neat with no hanging wires. WiFI is nice but how often do you actually use it? In case of an accident all you care about is SD card with original video file. App footage can be denied in court as not original. No leak through your phone if cops will have it in their possession unlocked. Not too many people pay attention to a dashcam unless it sticks-out. WiFi also gives dashcam away by advertising itself.

Have you performed the full review on the 329 yet? My A229 is a steaming pile of crap. It does NOT handle the Florida heat at all. Constant shutdowns while driving and parked have rendered it absolutely useless. Viofo's solution? Kick it down to 1080 / 2k and hope works. It did not. The camera is seriously flawed.

It's not just you. I got the FITCAMX as my first Dashcam, but didn't like the capture. I returned it and got the Viofo A229 and the capture is much better.

On a 2021 Highlander XLE we use a Viofo a229 and use the Dongar wiring harness mentioned by another commenter. It works very well. A model Y was on my radar when they came out but ended up with the Highlander. For me it was the build quality issues from Tesla at the time. Besides more room, any other reasons you have for Highlander than model Y? Sometimes I think I still might want to get an EV at some point in time.

I installed a Viofo A129 in my 2016 Elite and it's been fantastic. I have the same thing in my truck. For the Odyssey, you'll need the long 8m cable to reach all the way to the back. I have mine hardwired so it has parking mode. They have a newer version that has a better rear camera, the A229.

Viofo is my go-to. I've installed a119, a229, and a129. App is a little wonky sometimes but great picture and audio.

do you want a discreet dash cam? or a really good one? fitcam is "the" discreet dash cam, looks stock OEM, and gets good reviews. but it's only a kinda mediocre dash cam. I have a viofo a229, still pretty discreet, but certainly doesn't look like it came from Ford, but it has front and rear, 4k recording, a good parking mode, and more. mud flaps are essential, and I would argue they shouldn't be allowed to sell these trucks without them, (and in some jurisdictions, like mine, I'm pretty sure you legally have to have them, despite Ford omitting then). the Ford mudflaps look decent, and I used the Ford points to get them. for cap I went with a cheap Chinese knockoff of a smartcap. not colour matched, but I like the look.

I had a blackvue in my last car, and I liked it, the one thing I didn't like was when it stopped working it didn't give me any indication of that. it just stopped recording one day and I didn't find out until a few months later when I tried to pull footage for something. I replaced it with viofo, which is on the same level as the Blackvue, But seems to do a better job of notifying me of any issues.

I have Viofo A229 which I like. It, actually just saved my ass and paid for itself several times over. A dump truck failed to merge and took out my right quarter panel.

I got a viofo a229. Fairly easy to install in the car. Comes with a rear dash. You can also get a hardwire kit as well. I only installed the front and rear but no hardwire. I’ve since sold the car and taken it down and have no need for it. The sticky that you use to stick it on is kinda half broken off because I had to yank it off the car. If you’d like you can PM me

I had that happen but it was just a firmware fix. This is my first dash cam and it has been working over a year no problem.

I've had my eye on a Viofo A229 (either the one or 2 camera version). doesn't really matter the vehicle type, you're just looking for a dashcam. I may be changing jobs, as part of that I will be parking in a public lot that's not visible to me, parking mode will become more important to me as a result.

Monthly attention? I haven’t touched mine since I installed it last year and I’ve had no issues. Same for my wife’s car. What have you needed to do with yours?

Viofo A119,A129, or A229 depending on what you’re looking for are all good. The cable thing you tuck it in behind your trim so it isn’t dangling. Going to be a thing for any dash cam.

I just installed a VIOFO A229 in my 2024 Limited w/ eyesight. I purchased a Dongar adapter to draw power from the rearview mirror. Had it installed in about 30 minutes and looks nice and clean. Highly recommend this setup.

2nd on the A229 - first 'mod' id do to my FL5, hardwired with voltage cutoff for sentry mode. Just threw another in my wife's new CX-5 this weekend.

If $50 is your budget, you might as well get a phone mount for your vehicle, and use the phone camera as a dash cam. It'll likely be higher quality picture and sound compared to whatever cheapo-filipo hole you're trying to fill. However, if you can go up in price and spring for a good one. I recommend the Viofo A229.

I use the voifo 229 with rear cam and hardwire kit. I have the kit at medium discharge (I forgot the voltage but I remember the button position) that will record Timelapse while parked until the battery drops below a certain percentage. It’s pretty solid and Doesn’t visibily get in the way because I tucked the main unit up behind the rear view mirror on the passenger side.

I have exactly with. A229 with the hardwire kit. The bummer is that I got into a fender bender while it was on the way, and I was put at fault, if it was installed and I had the video I would have been fine… Also, I have it tucked up above to the right of the rear view mirror. It Doesn’t block any visibility and I barely see it because it’s behind the mirror.

Viofo a119 and a229 are two of the most recommended dash cams I’ve seen on Reddit. Put one in my wife’s car and no issues as long as you have a USB C port

‘20 forester, same camera. Mine is “temporarily” mounted slightly below the eyesight cams, I was planning to move it to the right of the cameras, but that temp spot has been used since November (only bought the car in October)

I have the VIOFO A229 now after running the A129 for a while. Great quality and easy to set up. My only issue I’ve had with both is that it sometimes doesn’t turn off with the truck so I’ll have to unplug it. Not really sure why it does that, happens randomly.

Viofo A229 is the way to go.

2 yrs in the hot Caribbean sun and no issues here. People only come here to complain, rarely someone that is not having issues will come out of the blue to sing their praises.

I have the A229 with the hardware kit. I really like it so far, only thing that sucked was getting the A pillar off so I could wire it properly. It was a serious pain in the ass, I needed to buy picks and I still ended up breaking the clip golder on the trim.

The camera records to a micro sd card that is installed in the main camera module. Footage from all cameras is stored on the card. To access the footage your camera creates a wifi hotspot that your phone connects to in order to facilitate the data transfer. This model uses 5 ghz network which is considerably faster than previous 2.4 ghz models I have used. Normally I used pop the card in my computer and copy all the files for easier processing but if you need a quick copy to share in the moment then wifi transfer allows for this. The wifi connection also allows you to remote view the cameras. I don’t want to type a bunch of unnecessary info so just ask me questions if you’re curious. I’ve had 2 different cams in 2 different cars so I’m pretty well versed in the space

Type s 401, the a229 viofi, and one other that gets recommended a lot on the dash cam sub. Sometimes just randomly my eyesight would bug out or just not work all together such as lane departure and "obstacle detection" which I just decided to go with the Garmin mini because a lot of Subaru owners (at least people who own newer models) recommend the Garmin because of the no screen which I so far have not had issues with. Oh and my car is a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek. I was worried the anti collision would randomly activate on me and slam on the brakes

I installed Viofo A229 on my GS

I really like the Viofo A229 for a dash cam. It has both front and rear cameras. It has a good parking mode and GPS.  I have the older version (A119) and have had them in both of my vehicles and they work great and are very discrete (screen dims while driving). Both vehicles, they are mounted beside the mirror.  Combine the camera with a 16 pin power adapter for the mirror and it's a very well integrated setup that feels oem.

Some thing happens to mine. It works flawless under regular temperatures; however, during summer it will shut off in about 1 hour in parking mode. I have tried updating the firmware, reducing imaging quality to 1080p, putting shades on my windshield, I got their overpriced SD card and nothing has solved this problem. I also have the 229 4k Pro and it is very frustrating to pay so much money ( I paid almost $400 and that's a lot money for me) and this camera does not do its job. Customer service emailed me saying that it is normal for the camera to shut off and all the other brands do the same thing, I careless about the other brands, If I knew it was garbage I would have bought the Plus and saved myself some money. If anyone have any recommendations for a different brand, please let me know. I was thinking about getting the Vantrue, any thoughts?

The viofo a229 is a super solid "mid range" dashcam that's decently reliable, decent video quality and easy to use. Definitely the model I'd recommend to 99% of people that just need a plug&play dashcam. Personally I use a thinkware pro 200, since I wanted one with no screen, as I find extra sources of light distracting.

Viofo A229 for two years and I am happy.

If you get a combination of dashcam and detector, you get something along the lines of worst of both. Best detector is Uniden R8 or Valentine One Gen 2. Personally I like the VIOFO A229 for the dashcam

I have a A119 mini in my wife's SUV and a A229 in my MX-5 with rear camera (it's been rear ended a couple of times). Also discovered this weekend that my wife's A119 works better when it is plugged in after a 700 mile round trip... Even missed the deer jumping out in front of her since it was unplugged.

Another vote for the VIOFO a229. I haven’t hooked up the rear yet but I have the front mounted and used an adapter to splice into power from the rear view mirror/overhead console. Took maybe 30 minutes to complete.

I’ve used a Viofo A229 in another vehicle for a year or so and it works great. Hardwired into the fusebox, runs about 10 minutes after turning the car off, it’s been great. I’m really interested in anybody who’s used one on a Maverick, mostly for how they ran wires in the cab.

Viofo A229 is what I use. Very well documented to be one of the best options out there for the price. You will want a dashcam that has a capacitor rather than an internal battery. The capacitor is what can stand the Arizona summers.

Viofo A229 ultra gives you front and rear 4k. I'm running the A129 pro duo which is 4k front and 1080p rear. It also has parking mode if you hardwire it so then it can record any incidents that might happen while your car is off (it will stop drawing power when your battery drops below a threshold as to not drain it)

Def the VIOFO with a Starvis 2 sensor. That’s the important thing, the video quality. Ive had the A229 installed in my 2024 Premium for over a year and love it. Unfortunately all the name brands like Garmin hype up useless features and charge more while skimping on the photo sensors. The VIOFO is great and easy to install with a Dongar power adapter. There’s some great videos on YouTube showing how easy they are to install.

I’ve got a Viofo A229 in both my Saleen and Fusion and neither have fallen or had any heat related issues in the over year that I’ve had them installed

had this exact same issue with two units in a row with them, gave up and realized i got what i paid for with them. their customer support is garbage if you order through them instead of amazon or something, so besides fighting them over email, the replacement they sent did the exact same thing, overheated when it got above ~70F outside in the sun. this happened using various sandisk and samsung HE micro SDs.

I've been using the Viofo dashcams for over 10 years. They're as reliable as any other brand, affordable, and I have no reason to switch to another company. I put tens of hours into finding the right kind of dashcam. Viofo A119, or the A229. Since the market crash of 2009, auto insurance scams went up 1200 % within 2 years  and with the increased cost of everything now, I can only assume that number has gone up. Even organized crime is involved, staging multi-vehicle crashes. EVERYONE needs a dashcam. If someone calls the police on you and it's their word against yours, you might lose in court. And not just traffic court. You can be charged criminally ( depending on that person's "story" ). If that happens, it will be months of stress, thousands on a lawyer  and you still might lose. No license to get to and from work, thousands in fines, sued civilly, and angry for 10 years with much higher insurance premiums. This is a worst case scenario, but it happens everyday, all over the world. ## Whenever there's an incident, save the recording on your PC incase someone tries to blame you etc. Dashcams re-record once the SD card is full, so buy the largest SD card that the dashcam can handle., and format the SD card in the camera when you first put it in and reformat the SD card every couple of months to stop any bugs from popping up. No dashcam is "very" reliable, which is why I run 2. 2 out the front and 2 out the back. I recommend fishing the cord through the headliner at the top of the windshield, then down the side inside of the rubber seal by the hinge, then under the dash and back towards the engine, all the way left, then have it come forward. That way it's not too susceptible of getting snagged on somebody's bag etc. There are tons of YouTube videos showing this method. This is all I've ever used.

Viofo A229. I got a fast 64g mini sd card for it. Front only. I wired a 12vdc-5v usb little box, into existing wires when I pulled the glasses & two lights compartment out. Lots of harnesses there. So the usb box is hidden in roof. Viofo usb cable connects to it. I bought from Amazon the converter box and a bunch of various male Toyota harnesses that end in wires. Took pics of the females that give power. One I got was for powered rear view mirror. Use a tester to find more than one live wire when car is on, and can power the converter and camera. One was just a signal +12v not enough power, another was fine. Camera has a capacitor to power save memory to the card when you turn off the car. This was like a 2 hour job taking my time. 3/10 difficulty.

Also rocking the a229 but not hardwired. A coworker of mine has a wolf box setup in his Ineos I'm slightly envious of, but they use the same image sensors.

Real question is how can we tap into the 360 cameras and record that? That would be so much better than an external. But I also have the Viofo a229. Works great.

VIOFO a229 was plug and play

Mine has been in and out of 4 different vehicles and have had it for a long time. No major issues with mine and it is still working great. I will say that the VIOFO A229 is a great alternative that I currently have in my wife's car. I will probably grab that one once the Garmin quits working, but for now I'll keep running the Garmin. I'm sure everyone's experiences may vary. Good luck!

I've had a few cams over the years, viofo a229 has been the best so far. Very easy install too.

I have the 129 in one car and the 229 in another. The image from the 229 is fantastic. Super clear and easy to see details. Camera installed easily. Just be sure you have the settings right before you put it in as it can be annoying to push the buttons while in the car. The base holds the power port so you can’t bring it inside easily to adjust the settings once it’s installed.

I have an A229 it works well, just make sure you set the voltage protection fairly high, like 12.2V minimum. The OEM batteries don’t have much Ah or CCA and you might not be able to start your car if it’s set lower e.g., 11.8V.

I installed VIOFO A229 plus front+rear today. It has a Starvis 2 sensor with 2k HDR for front. Hope it’s good 😛.

I am pretty happy with my front Viofo A229; it is unobtrusive but accessible if needed, and taps into the lane assist camera power so no dangling wires (other posts / comments in the sub explain this already). I am waiting for a warmer day, to install the rear cam, since that is more involved.

I have 2x of these, they are fantastic. Keep in mind that no matter the brand SD cards are not actually designed to write 24/7. Some are better then others, but dashcams will chew through cheap ones in no time and quality ones in a year or so. The A329 (a model higher then you are looking at) does support ssd's though. I use a usb 3.2 ssd with my A329, the other 2x A229 I use microsd and Im aware I'll have to replace them every year or so. But microsd are cheap

229 front and matching rear is what I run and been very happy with it. Super easy to quickly detach and remove from windshield mounting base too. Another slick setup is to get the separate mini front mount and use it as a rear cam. Typically much easier to find 12v power in the rear that connecting rear cam to the front camera. Oh and I'm in Phoenix area too.

I started with the Viofo A119 but now running A229. I recommend getting the hardware kit and a trim tool. Dedicate a day to install it right.

Viofo A129 or A229. Avoid Viofo A139, this model was nice because it had mini coax cables, but it's unreliable. When they start to fail they go into a boot loop randomly.

I use a viofo A229 front and rear camera, thought about getting the interior camera but I didn't. Pretty easy to setup yourself and video quality is pretty good.

viofo a229: have 2 a229's of which 1 did not work as expected. Customer support was extraordinary, and is shipping a replacement. No complaints on video quality, and certainly pleased with customer support.

Get a VIOFO something. a229, a329 It will have a better pic than the Toyota brand. There's newer and better is what I'm saying. You can put it up on the windshield behind the the RVM (or next to).

How does this compare to other dashcams? Does it make better use of the extra space or is this just a cheap dashcam in a housing? I've got a Viofo A229 and it's been great quality and audio as well.

Screw it looking oe. What you really want is a good camera. Viofo makes some of the better ones WITH a rear camera as well. After doing lots of research, lots of them use garbage cameras but the better ones use Sony. Specifically the Song Starvis. The Starvis 2 just recently came out and viofo made a new one with the 2. I have a VIOFO front and back cam. It records every time I take off or push the remote. I do t think they are crazy expensive and the quality it good

Vantrue or VIOFO. They both use the Sony Starvis image sensor and have great quality. The cameras are pretty set and forget if you opt for the hardwire kit. It will turn on and off with the car and start recording as soon as it starts up. The included power adapter does the same thing if your power port in your car turns off with the ignition.

70Mai is good - I've one in the CX5, front and rear cameras - and bought direct from AliExpress - retailers here sell the same thing, just for more. Do the math. Also the Viofo seem to be getting traction well - pick anything with the Sony Starvis sensor really - they're good in day and great at night.

Yes, but I’d recommend a dashcam with higher resolution than 1080p. Preferably 2.5K* or 4K. I like Viofo.

I have a couple viofo A-series, they're awesome. Wolfbox is also getting popular.

The best cameras are the Viofos but the Fitcam is the easiest to install cleanly and looks OEM so it really depends on what you're after.

Viofo from hachielectronics. It plugs from my fake engine noise so it doesn't have to take up usb space nor have to do any fuse voodoo.

For install, look up a video on how to install one and it tells you which fuse to tap. You’ll have to drill a hole on the silver frame of the dashboard to get a ground but overall it’s not hard to install. I recommend Vioflo or Nextbase.

GKU D700 - around $122 on Amazon after coupon. Have 3 of these in our household and they’ve been flawless (installed with the hardwire kit for an extra $25ish). App is great, decent size touchscreen, good quality front and rear video and capacitor based I believe. Had Viofos in the past which didn’t last more than 1-2 years, so thought I’d give these a try.

I've owned several Viofos and I don't trust them anymore with their built in capacitors that died. I now have 70mai brand. Have the model A800S

I've owned a bunch of Viofos but have switched to 70mai for the Ioniq 5. But anyways, you should mount it on the plastic part with just the lens peeking enough to view the street. Or put it on the right side of the plastic housing. It's annoying having the dashcam visible in your eyeline.

I've ran several viofos with no problems. Currently run a A119 V3. No problem easy install. Been running them for years. Usually if something is wrong, its the sd card.

Try watching Dashcmas Australia, take of the the crappy ones and the good footages. Most of the good ones I see consistently are Viofos.
