A229 ultra, 4k front and rear. A329 is pricier and gives you 60 frames per second but you don’t get 4k on the rear. I have tried both and personally prefer the higher resolution for the rear as it makes number plates easier to read
Bought the Viofo A229 Ultra (4K front and rear) in November because it had good reviews, the quality is great, looking forward to seeing how it is in the summer. Paid $100 to get it installed at Best Buy, so if you don’t want wires everywhere, highly recommend that. I was out after an hour.
Viofo has some very good cameras. I would recommend getting a 1440p camera over 4k as they work a bit better at night. I also got the 2 channel one to get a rear view and the wiring kit to get parking recording.
I have a viofo front & rear with the polarising filter on both. Still images are excellent. Video is decent quality in most scenarios. 4k front, 2k rear. Gets readable registration numbers from about 10m away or so pretty reliably. Further away is more hit and miss. Regardless what you get, you won't always get crystal clear footage. Settings can make a difference - HDR during the day reduces image quality, a higher bitrate can increase quality (but uses more memory), higher fps gives more bites of the cherry for getting a usable still, but also uses more memory in the process. Overall, I'd recommend the Viofo, but wouldn't say it's exceptional.
VIOFO a229 two channel (been lazy and haven’t hooked up the rear camera though) VIOFO is super solid, and works well
Viofo A229 2-CH is considered the gold standard of features to cost in a dash cam. The downside to the design is because the dash cam has a screen on the body, the whole assembly is enormous, which needs to be installed offset if your car has a honda sense module behind the mirror. I have this on my mom's CRV and it's kinda massive. But I do like how it works out. Personally, running a Blackvue DR590X-2CH, replacing an older DR590W-2CH that lasted just north of 3 years. Things I like about the Blackvue: 1. The body is low profile, which hides behind my rearview mirror without bothering me. It's even centered. 2. The app is good, easy to learn and use 3. Recording is reliable with a good quality Endurance spec memory card. 4. There are vendors that sell Blackvue that will go out of their way to help you in a pinch. 5. The components are dead simple if you aren't afraid of soldering. Things I don't like about the Blackvue: 1. no customer support. They'll even steal your money, which happened to me. 2. Longevity is questionable, as I had to replace my first one within a few years of ownership. Other notes: Highly recommend /u/blackboxmycar and their shop https://www.blackboxmycar.com/
