"I'm almost certainly gonna go with the A329. I just learned that the 70mai A810 uses a battery and not a capacitor. Batteries are terrible for dash cams due to how hot the inside of a car gets in the summer here."

"I can set it up a little over kill with a 4 tb ssd, a 512 sd card, and a battery backup hardwired, so when I park it 8 or 10 hours a day it will remain in parking / sentry mode and not kill my battery or record over itself."

"Using a fuse tap kit I hardwired it to a fuse that's only hot when the truck is on, but it has a separate connection that's always hot and provides constant power. So when it senses that the truck is on it records consistently. When it senses that the truck is off it goes into a monitoring mode that will only record when there's motion detected or the gyro is triggered. ... It has a battery monitor that senses the battery's voltage and will disable monitoring mode if the battery voltage gets too low. ... Works perfectly."

I decent dashcam, that will work well at night is more than that, but IMO the biggest contribution as to whether it's visible or not is the desig of the camera. The likes of a Viofo A229, mounted higher up is quite hard to see, versus a model from the likes of Nextbase which side lower down off the mount. https://www.viofo.com/products/viofo-a329-1ch-front-4k-60fps-gps-wi-fi-6-dash-cam-hdr-with-sony-starvis-2-sensor-support-ssd-storage https://nextbase.com/dash-cams/

Kind of depends on your budget and what time of features you want. I got the Viofo A329, but it’s a brand new model so it’s more expensive. But you can check out the recommendations here. https://dashcamtalk.com

Finally got around to installing the Viofo A329 4K dashcam on my 2025 Platinum. I only installed the front camera for now because I’m still thinking about how to run the cable for the rear dashcam. Short story: it was super easy to use the blue 5-pin connector that was meant for the OEM Toyota dashcam. The only thing you really need is to either make or purchase a 5-pin type A connector. I didn’t want to make my own, so I ordered the Dongar adapter for $36.99 on Amazon. It’s currently on sale for 25% off. https://a.co/d/0ZoVapf If you get the Dongar adapter, you may also need an adapter to connect to the female USB type A. I ordered a “L” USB-C male to USB type A female cable. I removed the TSS module cover by first pulling off the smaller cover (pull from the top towards yourself). Next, push the bigger TSS cover downward, and it should slide and pop open. The top panel controls removal takes a bit more force. Grab the edge furthest away from you and pull straight down. The two clips are positioned closest to the windshield should pop open with enough force and then slide it out and let it dangle. You should be able to see the blue OEM 5-pin connector. The Dongar fits right on there and the Viofo booted right up and started recording. I chose to place the dashcam on the passenger side so it wouldn’t affect driver visibility. The rain sensor and the dots on the windshield meant I had to mount it a little more off center than I preferred, but it was still fine. Afterwards, I just pushed in the excess cables into the headliner and closed everything up. I love that Toyota has the OEM connector in the headliner. It made this install super quick and easy. As for the rear dashcam, I ordered a 10 meter Viofo coax cable because I’m thinking of running it along the floor instead of in the headliner. Mostly because I don’t trust myself to properly run it without interfering with the side airbags. I’ll post up that process once I get around to it.

If you're looking for a turnkey solution, the Dongar Pro is still available. https://dongar.tech/products/dongar-pro. It's more expensive, but it does have a built-in parking mode system, which is good if the dashcam you're using does not have its own parking mode. I ended up returning the Dongar, not because of anything wrong with it, but because my dashcam (Viofo A329 Pro) has its own proprietary parking modes. For my dashcam, I ordered the hardwire kit (Viofo HK4) and spliced it with the Subaru wiring harness (part H501SSG010). This allows me to use the native parking mode in my dashcam. Let me know if you need pictures of the Subaru harness spliced to the Viofo HK4 hardwire kit.

I responded to your question on the other thread, but let me add more color the response here. All of these solutions use the OEM dashcam plug that's present in all current gen Siennas (2021+). So you wouldn't be altering any factory wiring on your Sienna - just plugging something into it. If you happen to find a vanilla Dongar (which is not even available anymore), that only provides power to the dashcam based on the ignition state. If you get the Dongar Pro, that has its own built-in parking mode and it's good for dashcams that do not have its own parking mode. Since you have a Viofo A329, that has its own proprietary parking mode. That being said, both the Dongar and the Dongar Pro will work. But if you want to use the Viofo native parking modes, then you will need to buy the Viofo HK4 hardwire kit and splice it into a 5-pin connector (I used the Subaru wiring harness H501SSG010). You would just be messing with the wiring with the Viofo HK4 and the Subaru wiring harness, so your Sienna wiring is not modified at all.

Unfortunately, I haven't done much research into the Roav dashcams. What model is it? Generally for a dashcam's native parking mode to work, it's going to need some signals coming from the vehicle. I believe it's three wires minimum: 1) Ignition - tells the dashcam if the car is on or off 2) Continuous power - so the dashcam can keep drawing power when the car is off 3) Ground The Dongar non-Pro (discontinued) only has ignition. So once you turn off the vehicle, the dashcam turns off. The Dongar Pro - has it's own parking mode, so you wouldn't even need to use the native parking mode on your Roav.

Now that the A329 is out, I'd recommend it over the A229 Plus or Pro. It's more expensive, but is an overall better camera. For me the killer feature is it can record to an external SSD. No more fumbling with those tiny cards; no more microSD file corruption.

If you believe the Wirecutter, go for a Viofo or a Miofive (budget pick; I tried one; it was junk). https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-dash-cam/ This recommendation was published before the A329 came out, or I believe they would recommend it. I’ve had both the A229 Pro and the A329; I find the latter to be a better dashcam, mostly for its SSD support.

Dashcams tend to be sensitive to the type of micro SD card you put in them. Viofo recommends only a couple of different types of card for their dashcams. So there's many reasons why that reviewer's dashcam didn't capture his daughter's curb hit. I have used the Viofo A229 as well as the newer A329; both are excellent cameras. Good build quality, nice features, and highly configurable. I've had mine installed throughout two brutal Houston summers (my G70 lives outdoors) and it has survived without problem. I prefer the A329 because it can record to an SSD, which I prefer for several reasons. Good camera -- I recommend it.

The A329 is great at being a dashcam. The video quality is incredible, and keeps on recording. A lot of the industry-first features just aren’t ready for prime time though. 4K 60 fps + 2K 30 fps is just too much data for a MicroSD, even one with 100 MB/s write speed. Mine regularly flashes “Slow Card” and drops to 4K 30 fps. I’m about to install an external SSD to get away from MicroSD. Then there’s the HDMI out. My head unit has an HDMI input, so I ran an HDMI cable in my car. EDID is super finicky with this thing, and I will occasionally have to drop to 4K 30fps just to get it to display picture rather than static. The HDMI out hates the picture-in-picture, so you have to set the display to front or rear only. Finally, there are some weird bugs. Like it won’t come out of parking mode properly, so I have to power it down each time for it to unfreeze. Also, it induces enough noise to reduce the range of my push-to-start to <12.” Still a great camera, just not quite ready for prime time.

The external SSD I installed a couple of days ago appears to have worked around this issue. I suspect that this is a combination of 4K 60fps overwhelming the microSD (in terms of write speed) and a bug that prevents recording from being manually stopped after the logic for the “slow card” error cuts the frame rate to 30 fps. The SSD prevents the “slow card” error altogether. I get the “slow card” error even while I’m driving, so I don’t think this issue is isolated to parking mode. Any chance you could link to the firmware on the official website? I’m sure you’re legit, but I’m not going to download firmware off a Google Drive link from a Reddit comment. I really think VIOFO needs to require an SSD to enable 4K 60fps and update the marketing info accordingly.

I have 2x of these, they are fantastic. Keep in mind that no matter the brand SD cards are not actually designed to write 24/7. Some are better then others, but dashcams will chew through cheap ones in no time and quality ones in a year or so. The A329 (a model higher then you are looking at) does support ssd's though. I use a usb 3.2 ssd with my A329, the other 2x A229 I use microsd and Im aware I'll have to replace them every year or so. But microsd are cheap

Smaller rear camera cable for easy fitting in tight spaces 4. More accurate GPS 5. Support SSD up to 4tb (storage to last for months)

Usually these factory ports on the car are not compatible with most aftermarket dashcams. We had a customer with a BYD Song Plus and this car has a working in-built dashcam in the Chinese spec version but GCC version doesn’t come with it - only the connections. He got the A329 and had to route wires all again since the factory dashcams wirings were using proprietary connections and not rated for 4K60fps transfers. We’ve got great options for dashcams and trusted by many DPH members. Sony Starvis 2 Sensors, Night Vision 2.0, HDR, Super-capacitor battery - our dashcams come with it all. My thought as well. The SD card must be the higher-quality Extreme or Industrial use. You may experience irratic behaviors that are unexplainable in some cases. The lower quality SD cards can be more exposed to vibration while writing to the card. The speed on the higher quality are much faster, ~190 Mbs per second enabling writing your video clips to the SD less read/write errors or video loss. The lower quality SD card writes about ~100Mbs per second also half the speed of the higher end. I have owned Viofo for at least ten years and have not been disappointed. The continue to add features or benefits to their product mix. I have undated the firmware to the latest version. Like any technology updating your firmware that is recommended by the OEM is key to any satisfaction. The A229 and 329 dash cams have very fast video and snapshot photos or parking mode. THIS would probably explain your to slow message when it reads the card or formats the card it sees a low speed transfer or read/write. Anyways, Best dash cam I have used.

If you judge "best" by most integrated features and system from one manufacturer, I'd say it would be the BlackVue DR970X-2CH LTE PlusDR970X-2CH LTE Plus with their extended use battery pack and data plan. It has the new(ish) Starvis 2 4K sensor for its front camera, so is among the best in PQ and if you subscribe to a monthly BlackVue plan you can access the camera at all times. because it has its own cellular connection. [https://blackvue.com/product/dr970x-2ch-lte-plus-na/](https://blackvue.com/product/dr970x-2ch-lte-plus-na/) [https://blackvue.com/product/blackvue-ultra-battery-b-130a/](https://blackvue.com/product/blackvue-ultra-battery-b-130a/) [https://blackvue.com/sim-card/](https://blackvue.com/sim-card/) It's too pricey for my budget and has features that I don't require, so I personally chose a Viofo A229 Pro about 1 1/2 years ago. I'm looking at replacements now and the A810 is one of my final contenders. I was planning to hardwire it, but I'm a little worried about it since their basic hardwire kit has shut off voltage options of only 11.6 or 12.0, both of which are too low. With all the 12v issues on the EV6 that makes me a little nervous. It also apparently only buffers 2 seconds of video in an event recording which is pretty short. The video samples online are really good though, firmware is published regularly and publicly (unlike fitcamX), and the price can't be beat (it's $139 right now). I think for me it's between that or the VIOFO A329. A329 is way more expensive, but has better rear cam quality and draws less power in parking mode (and hardwire kit has better voltage cutoff options). I ran A119v3 for years as front and back cameras with no problems but I sold them with the old car when I bought the EV6. Our secondary car has an A119S that's still working well too. The new A329 has some questionable reviews though so I may just go with the 70mai.

I'm almost certainly gonna go with the A329. I just learned that the 70mai A810 uses a battery and not a capacitor. Batteries are terrible for dash cams due to how hot the inside of a car gets in the summer here. 70mai apparently has a new X800/Omni 4k that has a capacitor, but it's not obtainable anywhere at this time and I want a dash cam now.

For the price, there’s much better out there. You can buy a VIOFO A329 for around the same price and that is a 4K camera with a Sony Starvis 2 sensor (the Toyota dash cam is only 1080p). Since the Sienna has a 12V plug pre-wired and hole already cut out in the headliner, running power to an aftermarket dash cam couldn’t be easier.

I'm considering this because of the form factor, I like the idea of having both a digital; rear view mirror as well as an interactive touch screen right there to easily manage things is great,. But I also don't feel; great about their parking mode compared to say the Thinkware 3000 buffered parking mode. My priority is parking mode over all else, as I want to see what is happening to my car when I find a dent in the door or other damage. I don't like thinkware in other res\[pects but it definitely seems to have a superior buffered parking mode. So,. my focus has been mostly on that. I actually wrote to Wolfbox a few times asking them please consider adding a better buffered parking mode sentry unit, I doubt they will but I asked because I like everything else about it. I think I am going to get the Viofo A329 because it is really good in all areas, and I can set it up a little over kill with a 4 tb ssd, a 512 sd card, and a battery backup hardwired, so when I park it 8 or 10 hours a day it will remain in parking / sentry mode and not kill my battery or record over itself. I've got to look at thinkware once more to remind myself what was weak, I forget.

None of these cameras had a Sony Starvis 2 sensor, yet if you pay a little extra, you can step up to the newer version of the Viofo A119, the A119 Mini2 which does, and which would beat the Viofo A119 V3 that won this test in the same way that the V3 beat most of the competition! Having stepped up to current generation Sony Starvis 2, you can then step up to the 4K version, which is another significant step, and then you get a bit stuck on image quality and going for a far more expensive Blackvue or Thinkware is currently a step down in image quality relative to the 4K Viofo A229 Pro, only reason you would take that step is to get cloud access to your parked car, but that is an expensive choice, both in cash and in license plate readability. Best image quality currently is the Viofo A329 series, which not only has Sony Starvis 2 sensors, but has also moved to the next generation of processors, which is bringing quite a few advantages.

I went viofo a329. 3ch, including interior infrared fisheye and rear waterproof mounted underneath the "spoiler". It was between this or the wolf box. I am very happy with this setup. I just wish I could do the 60fps with 3ch like they falsely advertised I could do on launch day.

FitcamX is nice because of the fit, but something like a Thinkware U3000 or Viofo a329 is going to capture better video. I am getting the A329. I don’t plan on doing any monitoring during parking, but it’s compatible with battery packs if you want that feature. It would probably be easy to run the wiring down the passenger A pillar and to the fuse box the secure the battery down there somewhere.

Look up safe drive solution, they will actually come to your house and install it in your driveway for you. Here's what I wrote into he past to someone else asking about dashcams and installation shops. I got the Video A329. Or whatever the top of the line 4K one is, I can't remember it now. "Honestly it was a great price, I paid $846.37 total. But it came with the VIOFO A329 with the rear camera, a 128/256gtb memory card can't remember) it was also set up with parking mode so its professionally installed to my fusebox under the steering wheel. Along with all cables hidden and zip tied so the only cable you see is the 1-2" coming from the rearview mirror area. All in all, with the additional accessories, you only really pay about $130 for the install cost. If you price the rest of the items separately, you pay about $717 (according to Viofos website, added accessories and free shipping). Plus Ted sat down with me, set up the camera and showed me how to use it etc."

Look up the YouTube videos by SafeDriveSolutions. I'm located in Canada and I had them professionally install my dashcam (Viofo A329) and I haven't had a single issue with it. I went for the one with 4K60fps recording just to get the top of the line dashcam with my new RAV4 See in Cavalry Blue (too!). It has both front and rear dash cams, along with parking mode.

The A810 Plus definitely has a supercap, and looks to be solid as anything. I do use the A329 in two channel mode but it has intermittent issues with my Kingston external SSD, Viofo has had to backtrack on its claims of compatibility with SSD enclosures - it's been a mess. A119 V3 I've still got one in the drawer that was my daily for a couple of years, it can't be beaten in the Australian heat here and for it's video quality. Vantrue has caught up a lot in terms of their app and image quality, I would go for E1 Pro which seems to be the pick for a cheap 4k single unit solution. The e360 is a bit out of an outlier as they're trying something new - they have had their doozies like the s1 pro which was quickly replaced by the N2X which was way way better. To be honest, it's a three way battle between Viofo 70mai and Vantrue now. Totally understand the convenience of the Wolfbox and the form factor , it definitely has it's use cases and I can't fault that in the slightest. Wolfbox seem to be getting their game together now which is good. I agree with you on the x800, it seems like that's what the issue is. Shame really but what can you do. To be honest the a810 plus seems to be the safer buy even if the cabin is a crappy 1080p only. YouTube reviewers don't mention these issues not a single one mentioned it for the x800 even though they would have the Dec and January batch units that had the issues.

I second this one. Have the Viofo a229 plus in my wife's car and it works great and provides excellent video. I picked up the A329 and will be installing that in my truck soon. Another thread pointed out that they have an external camera that you could mount to the back of your truck, the website says it works for the A229, but it appears the A329 has the same ports, so I would think it works for the A329 as well. I may pick it up and see one of these days, but I like the idea of the rear camera being able to look after my truck bed with the internal mounted rear camera.

I have the u3000 and the viofo a329 (almost the same as 229). The thinkware has a better experience and probably more reliable and far better parking mode, the viofo has a worse but still usable parking mode and better night time video quality as it has HDR. The thinkware, while you can see a lot, is blown out so bad you can't make any license plates or signs out. Exactly like what you said. I personally prefer being able to see important details, and the viofo does a far better job at it. I run the viofo, and it's been working very well so far. I would go with the viofo since I care about image quality, but if you want the best of the best parking mode, thinkware is the leader.

You need to specify what you are looking for in a dash cam so other's can recommend the overall best one for YOU. Like the Viofo A329 is probably the best on market at the moment when it comes to video/image quality but it's limited to only 2-channels at the moment. Then there's the Thinkware U3000 that's likely still tops in the parking mode field for it's use of radar. So an "overall best" dash cam is subjective and will depend on one's needs, and wants.

I've had good luck with the viofo dash cams over the years. Some of the more expensive viofos have the Starvis 2 sensor, which does get a slightly better image (which might help if you are reading a license plate). Buy a really good high-endurance SD card, no matter what you buy And if you are ever in a collision, read the plate out loud so the mic can pick it up. Just in case the camera doesn't quite pick it up.
