I just bought a Viofo A329 2ch for my 2025 Onyx XT after a couple of months research. I take long trips in the New England mountains and I liked the cameras resolution and the fact that it will hook up to an SSD (up to 4TB) for extensive long duration capturing without having to overwrite files. It will also accept up to a 512 GB micro sd so you use one or the other. The phone app is great and all settings can be done from the phone. It connects by wi-fi to the phone so the response is very fast when you want to look at files. According to my research Subaru is sensitive (denying electrical warranty claims) to running hardwires to the fuse panel so I am using the 12 volt plug in the glove compartment. I read people having issues with higher end cameras and the Donger splice so even though I purchased one I didn't go that route. If I eventually use parking mode I am going to purchase a dash cam battery to use for that purpose to protect the car battery.

Fan of Viofo, went with a329 2 channel. Used a Dongar technology plug and play harness that attaches to rear view mirror to create a powered (only when the ignition is on) usb to plug the camera right into, without cutting, splicing or jumping a fuse.

These days the A329 2ch is a better choice than the A229 Pro, mostly for its external SSD support.

For me the SSD is a major win on capacity and durability alone. The max supported capacity is 8x over max microSD. SSDs are designed for more write cycles, they have better wear leveling, and they tolerate heat better, so better durability. And if you frequently offload your video, as I do, the speed increase is wonderful. 60 fps video and faster WiFi are other benefits of the A329 over the A229 Pro.

One final note on A329 vs A229 Pro… head over to dashcamtalk.com (the gold standard for dash cam forums) where there is a recent side-by-side comparison of the two cameras. Despite the 229 having an excellent picture, the 329 is even better.

I was very happy with my A229 Pro, except for having to deal with those tiny (in two senses) microSD cards. That’s why I jumped to the A329 with SSD support. It rocks. Still a few bugs but nothing bad.

Now that the A329 is out, I'd recommend it over the A229 Plus or Pro. It's more expensive, but is an overall better camera. For me the killer feature is it can record to an external SSD. No more fumbling with those tiny cards; no more microSD file corruption.

If you believe the Wirecutter, go for a Viofo or a Miofive (budget pick; I tried one; it was junk). https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-dash-cam/ This recommendation was published before the A329 came out, or I believe they would recommend it. I’ve had both the A229 Pro and the A329; I find the latter to be a better dashcam, mostly for its SSD support.

Probably the best VIOFO dual cam on the market is the [VIOFO A329](https://www.amazon.com/VIOFO-A329-4K-60FPS-Control/dp/B0DKDXY5HP) with two 4K cameras at 60 fps. Depending on what it costs to install this may exceed $500. I installed mine myself so.. Anyway, I'd recommend any VIOFO that has two cameras and parking mode (hard wire kits are sold separately). I wouldn't go any lower than 2K resolution per camera. Higher the better. This budget option might be more along what your looking for at 4K front and 2K rear with a lower 30fps the [VIOFO A229 Pro](https://www.amazon.com/VIOFO-A229-Pro-STARVIS-Channel/dp/B0CKYFSKNN/ref=sr_1_1?crid=N22FYBMA0G4W&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.esSZc28_XGFcRrYFLJbMiAZbhCiZ4Ry71EKiYRW9uAlBPfmccoC5fwo-4nc2FhpJe08Nn3ABwtsL6Gc3-TZ9HRGst52G6ZXmxNjzp2QLjUW3r23debpgVpSQNLJs4u_uUlkhIPjYMlzHmX1no2Qk_ehkeV14coCg7X5IH10S2ELoR_gTExaChisjPVoRrcDrHzAoFrG8FkHogKRRmPQvd5C7LypOsePLHluG6f0afo8.aM8Q8JHDrHGmf-DUMOX4cMfp6Dgdh0M3XU8W3jXVFTw&dib_tag=se&keywords=a229%2Bpro&qid=1742662764&sprefix=a229%2Caps%2C838&sr=8-1&th=1)

Viofo A329 front and rear facing. Combo with a sandisk max enduramce 256GB micro SD. Do not use a different microSD card. Dash cameras are very hard on the card and this one is meant specifically for this us usage and warranty for it. 369 on blackboxmycar I would suggest reformatting a.k.a. wiping the card every two months If you need a more value days cam. The A139 pro duo is 199 for front and rear facing. Front is 2k and rear 1080P. the sale price is viofo own website. I’d link them for you but subs frowns upon helpful links

Just got the A329 2ch as my first dash cam and installed today by hardwiring with fuse taps. Do you have recommended settings for this dash cam? I'm a bit confused with what frequency to use and whether or not to use HDR (on, off, or timed). I'm also interested if you have advice on g-sensor sensitivity for parking and driving. I'll be using 4k 60fps max bitrate, adjusted exposure for rear window tint, auto event detection for parking, and have the fuse tap set to cut off at 12.4v. I typically drive my 2023 F150 5 days out of the week, mainly to and from work, and I park in fairly secure locations. I'm sure there's still lots of questions you have about my exact setup and expectations, but any quick general advice would be greatly appreciated.

I installed the Viofo A329 dual front/rear in my 2024 XSE PP. Used the Dongar Pro adapter to tap into the rearview mirror console power so no need to run down to fuse box plus it gives me access to reserve power to run parking mode. The cable for the rear cam was carefully fished along the outer border of the headliner and tucked out of the way of the side curtain airbags. The hardest part was getting it through the B-pillar and then through the hatch grommet b/c I didn't want to drop the headliner.

The a229 pro is perfect. A329pro if you want the most features. Only difference is the following 1. 4K 30fps -> 4K 60fps (Smoother video) 2. Upgraded from 5G to WiFi 6 (Faster upload) 3. Smaller rear camera cable for easy fitting in tight spaces 4. More accurate GPS 5. Support SSD up to 4tb (storage to last for months)

A229 Plus/Pro family of cameras are great. We have had great success with their lineup. 3ch camera systems definitely have their place. the A329 is for a niche group of clientele. There will always be individuals who seek the latest and greatest. No 3 channel support, but the ride share market often gravitate to budget options. SSD is pretty cool if you really want to save lots of video footage. For the average commuter, a 128GB-256GB is plenty of video recording. We're in the process of planning the testing road map. I am looking forward to seeing what this new device has to offer as well.

Both the A229plus/ Pro and A329 use the HK4 usb C hardwire kit. A229Plus/Pro rear camera cable is USB-C to C. A329 IS COAXIAL. Upgrading from A129 pro to either of the above would require rewiring entirely. This unit uses the HK3 and Mini usb rear camera connection. The 229 family of cameras is a solid performer. The a329 dos have the upper edge. Should it fall within your budget, the a329 is worth the extra buck. Unfortunately, there is no saving pennies here. Thr a129 rear cam won't work with the a229 or a329.

The A329 is a 2channel camera only. For the A229 Pro the bit rate is not affected in front/rear configurations. With the addition of the Interior IR, the bitrate does drop for the front camera (marginally) Robert from RetroCarGuy530 has in depth bitrate testing on DCT (dashcamtalk),and has a wealth of knowledge far surpassing our more simplistic testing.

I just did another changeover for a client today. Just a few things to note. The camera connection will pressure fit into the a329 rear camera. There is no audible click like the included viofo cable. It will not fall out. That's for certain as the connection is tight. For the coax cable connection at the camera, there is a minor gap from the cable end to the body of the a329. It's minor, but if you're particular, it may be an eye sore.

I felt the same and just last week I opted for the viofo a329 2channel. I had it hard wired and parking mode can record up to 6 hrs before shutting off to avoid battery issues. Also, the a329 allows you to turn off parking mode any time. I don’t need it majority of the time so I disable it until I need to use it.

As an insurance agent, I think EVERYONE should have a dashcam. Preferably one with front and rear facing cameras. There are some great 4k cameras out there with Bluetooth capabilities. Viofo has some great cameras that get amazing reviews, but they are expensive. For more budget conscious individuals REDTIGER F7NP is a great option as well that has wireless, but it’s not Bluetooth. We have them installed on all of our vehicles.

I second this one. Have the Viofo a229 plus in my wife's car and it works great and provides excellent video. I picked up the A329 and will be installing that in my truck soon. Another thread pointed out that they have an external camera that you could mount to the back of your truck, the website says it works for the A229, but it appears the A329 has the same ports, so I would think it works for the A329 as well. I may pick it up and see one of these days, but I like the idea of the rear camera being able to look after my truck bed with the internal mounted rear camera.

I'm considering this because of the form factor, I like the idea of having both a digital; rear view mirror as well as an interactive touch screen right there to easily manage things is great,. But I also don't feel; great about their parking mode compared to say the Thinkware 3000 buffered parking mode. My priority is parking mode over all else, as I want to see what is happening to my car when I find a dent in the door or other damage. I don't like thinkware in other res\[pects but it definitely seems to have a superior buffered parking mode. So,. my focus has been mostly on that. I actually wrote to Wolfbox a few times asking them please consider adding a better buffered parking mode sentry unit, I doubt they will but I asked because I like everything else about it. I think I am going to get the Viofo A329 because it is really good in all areas, and I can set it up a little over kill with a 4 tb ssd, a 512 sd card, and a battery backup hardwired, so when I park it 8 or 10 hours a day it will remain in parking / sentry mode and not kill my battery or record over itself. I've got to look at thinkware once more to remind myself what was weak, I forget.

I would recommend a viofo dashcam, I've out mine to the left side of the mirror and down just far enough to see under the black dot Matrix port. It's got a great view of the road and I can easily reach the incident button if needed. I've got the 2 channel one so the rest camera is in the middle of the back. There are several options from them but anything more than 2K on the front feels excessive.

I got two Pruveeos 9 years ago. One is still going, but the other died after 6 years. I got a 2 channel Viofo for my wife's car. The rear camera died at 13 months which stopped the front from recording. I figured out that the front worked fine if I unplugged the rear. They wanted me to pay $40 for a replacement rear cam though it was still in warranty. I just tossed it and switched to Garmin. I'm not saying to buy Pruveeo the video quality sucks, but they were only $37.

The A329 is great at being a dashcam. The video quality is incredible, and keeps on recording. A lot of the industry-first features just aren’t ready for prime time though. 4K 60 fps + 2K 30 fps is just too much data for a MicroSD, even one with 100 MB/s write speed. Mine regularly flashes “Slow Card” and drops to 4K 30 fps. I’m about to install an external SSD to get away from MicroSD. Then there’s the HDMI out. My head unit has an HDMI input, so I ran an HDMI cable in my car. EDID is super finicky with this thing, and I will occasionally have to drop to 4K 30fps just to get it to display picture rather than static. The HDMI out hates the picture-in-picture, so you have to set the display to front or rear only. Finally, there are some weird bugs. Like it won’t come out of parking mode properly, so I have to power it down each time for it to unfreeze. Also, it induces enough noise to reduce the range of my push-to-start to <12.” Still a great camera, just not quite ready for prime time.

Maxamiller • 3 months ago

The external SSD I installed a couple of days ago appears to have worked around this issue. I suspect that this is a combination of 4K 60fps overwhelming the microSD (in terms of write speed) and a bug that prevents recording from being manually stopped after the logic for the “slow card” error cuts the frame rate to 30 fps. The SSD prevents the “slow card” error altogether. I get the “slow card” error even while I’m driving, so I don’t think this issue is isolated to parking mode. Any chance you could link to the firmware on the official website? I’m sure you’re legit, but I’m not going to download firmware off a Google Drive link from a Reddit comment. I really think VIOFO needs to require an SSD to enable 4K 60fps and update the marketing info accordingly.

I have the u3000 and the viofo a329 (almost the same as 229). The thinkware has a better experience and probably more reliable and far better parking mode, the viofo has a worse but still usable parking mode and better night time video quality as it has HDR. The thinkware, while you can see a lot, is blown out so bad you can't make any license plates or signs out. Exactly like what you said. I personally prefer being able to see important details, and the viofo does a far better job at it. I run the viofo, and it's been working very well so far. I would go with the viofo since I care about image quality, but if you want the best of the best parking mode, thinkware is the leader.

I don't even have a 4k TV or computer either, I just use the interactive zoom feature on VLC Player. 256GB is enough for more than a whole day, even with front and rear cams like the Viofo has. It has the new(ish) Starvis 2 4K sensor for its front camera, so is among the best in PQ and if you subscribe to a monthly BlackVue plan you can access the camera at all times. because it has its own cellular connection. [https://blackvue.com/product/dr970x-2ch-lte-plus-na/](https://blackvue.com/product/dr970x-2ch-lte-plus-na/) [https://blackvue.com/product/blackvue-ultra-battery-b-130a/](https://blackvue.com/product/blackvue-ultra-battery-b-130a/) [https://blackvue.com/sim-card/](https://blackvue.com/sim-card/) It's too pricey for my budget and has features that I don't require, so I personally chose a Viofo A229 Pro about 1 1/2 years ago. Today, I'd probably go for the Viofo A329.

The best cameras are the Viofos but the Fitcam is the easiest to install cleanly and looks OEM so it really depends on what you're after.

I have the next step up from the one they tested and the Viofo is great, the 2 channel was easy to run, and I used a dongar pro, so power was super easy. https://preview.redd.it/fy856ri9mope1.png?width=1440&format=png&auto=webp&s=5afc3127ef5ff91ab75ebfce0f5e4b6e6f553df4

For dashcam, i would recommend either Viofo or Ventrue. Make sure you get the ones with Sony Starvis2 sensor so you can capture the license plate numbers. Hot wire kit is a must of you want constant power and a clean installation

I've ran several viofos with no problems. Currently run a A119 V3. No problem easy install. Been running them for years. Usually if something is wrong, its the sd card.

Kind of depends on your budget and what time of features you want. I got the Viofo A329, but it’s a brand new model so it’s more expensive. But you can check out the recommendations here. https://dashcamtalk.com

Viofo A329 or A229 Pro, those are the only decent dashcams I know where you can get a half decent footage and legible license plates.

Went with an a329 viofo, works perfectly and the number plates are a lot clearer, my prior 770 blackvue that kept blurring plates, got autobarn to install and it was seamless, brilliant dash cam

None of these cameras had a Sony Starvis 2 sensor, yet if you pay a little extra, you can step up to the newer version of the Viofo A119, the A119 Mini2 which does, and which would beat the Viofo A119 V3 that won this test in the same way that the V3 beat most of the competition! Having stepped up to current generation Sony Starvis 2, you can then step up to the 4K version, which is another significant step, and then you get a bit stuck on image quality and going for a far more expensive Blackvue or Thinkware is currently a step down in image quality relative to the 4K Viofo A229 Pro, only reason you would take that step is to get cloud access to your parked car, but that is an expensive choice, both in cash and in license plate readability. Best image quality currently is the Viofo A329 series, which not only has Sony Starvis 2 sensors, but has also moved to the next generation of processors, which is bringing quite a few advantages.

For the price, there’s much better out there. You can buy a VIOFO A329 for around the same price and that is a 4K camera with a Sony Starvis 2 sensor (the Toyota dash cam is only 1080p). Since the Sienna has a 12V plug pre-wired and hole already cut out in the headliner, running power to an aftermarket dash cam couldn’t be easier.

Usually these factory ports on the car are not compatible with most aftermarket dashcams. We had a customer with a BYD Song Plus and this car has a working in-built dashcam in the Chinese spec version but GCC version doesn’t come with it - only the connections. He got the A329 and had to route wires all again since the factory dashcams wirings were using proprietary connections and not rated for 4K60fps transfers. We’ve got great options for dashcams and trusted by many DPH members. Sony Starvis 2 Sensors, Night Vision 2.0, HDR, Super-capacitor battery - our dashcams come with it all. Check us out on Amazon and go through the [101 Guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/DubaiPetrolHeads/s/inLIDWMkcW) and you’ll know what to look out for. Feel free to DM for any questions.

The A810 Plus definitely has a supercap, and looks to be solid as anything. I do use the A329 in two channel mode but it has intermittent issues with my Kingston external SSD, Viofo has had to backtrack on its claims of compatibility with SSD enclosures - it's been a mess. A119 V3 I've still got one in the drawer that was my daily for a couple of years, it can't be beaten in the Australian heat here and for it's video quality. Vantrue has caught up a lot in terms of their app and image quality, I would go for E1 Pro which seems to be the pick for a cheap 4k single unit solution. The e360 is a bit out of an outlier as they're trying something new - they have had their doozies like the s1 pro which was quickly replaced by the N2X which was way way better. To be honest, it's a three way battle between Viofo 70mai and Vantrue now. Totally understand the convenience of the Wolfbox and the form factor , it definitely has it's use cases and I can't fault that in the slightest. Wolfbox seem to be getting their game together now which is good. I agree with you on the x800, it seems like that's what the issue is. Shame really but what can you do. To be honest the a810 plus seems to be the safer buy even if the cabin is a crappy 1080p only. YouTube reviewers don't mention these issues not a single one mentioned it for the x800 even though they would have the Dec and January batch units that had the issues.

Sorry to resurrect what is now quite an old thread but I have some updates: Porsche say that they do in fact only offer a front facing dash cam. They offered to install it but I hate to imagine what they would have charged. I don’t recall any mention of prewiring the car for a dash cam when I was speccing it out in June. Otherwise I would’ve gone for it. Porsche say that if you hardwire a 3rd party dash cam it will void the warranty on the electrics (interesting…) Also has anyone actually hardwired a dash cam into a Cayman themselves? Looks like I’m going to have to do it my self as Porsche also refused to do it unless it was for their own product! Oh and I bought the viofo a329 based on the recommendations received here 🙏

I'm looking at replacements now and the A810 is one of my final contenders. I was planning to hardwire it, but I'm a little worried about it since their basic hardwire kit has shut off voltage options of only 11.6 or 12.0, both of which are too low. With all the 12v issues on the EV6 that makes me a little nervous. It also apparently only buffers 2 seconds of video in an event recording which is pretty short. The video samples online are really good though, firmware is published regularly and publicly (unlike fitcamX), and the price can't be beat (it's $139 right now). I think for me it's between that or the VIOFO A329. A329 is way more expensive, but has better rear cam quality and draws less power in parking mode (and hardwire kit has better voltage cutoff options). I ran A119v3 for years as front and back cameras with no problems but I sold them with the old car when I bought the EV6. Our secondary car has an A119S that's still working well too. The new A329 has some questionable reviews though so I may just go with the 70mai.

I'm almost certainly gonna go with the A329. I just learned that the 70mai A810 uses a battery and not a capacitor. Batteries are terrible for dash cams due to how hot the inside of a car gets in the summer here. 70mai apparently has a new X800/Omni 4k that has a capacitor, but it's not obtainable anywhere at this time and I want a dash cam now.

You need to specify what you are looking for in a dash cam so other's can recommend the overall best one for YOU. Like the Viofo A329 is probably the best on market at the moment when it comes to video/image quality but it's limited to only 2-channels at the moment. Then there's the Thinkware U3000 that's likely still tops in the parking mode field for it's use of radar. So an "overall best" dash cam is subjective and will depend on one's needs, and wants.

I use a Viofo 4K unit off of Amazon. Works great. Using a fuse tap kit I hardwired it to a fuse that's only hot when the truck is on, but it has a separate connection that's always hot and provides constant power. So when it senses that the truck is on it records consistently. When it senses that the truck is off it goes into a monitoring mode that will only record when there's motion detected or the gyro is triggered. It has a battery monitor that senses the battery's voltage and will disable monitoring mode if the battery voltage gets too low. Works perfectly. It has a rear camera too. Records to an SD card but has Wifi to beam video to your phone via their app if you want. Was in an accident a couple months ago and had the video footage on my phone before the cops even showed up. Saved my ass with the insurance.
