A229 ultra, 4k front and rear. A329 is pricier and gives you 60 frames per second but you don’t get 4k on the rear. I have tried both and personally prefer the higher resolution for the rear as it makes number plates easier to read
I did my own install about two months ago with a Viofo A329T powered off a Blackbox Powercell 7500mWh battery for parking mode. I hardwired it in using a relay controlled fuse box connected to the battery that activates off a Pac IGN 3 (connected to OBD via splitter). The trickiest part was connecting the IGN3 wires to the second OBD port since the IGN3 doesn't have a connector, but I 3D modeled and printed a part with holes where I could seat the wires, terminated with higher gauge, solid core, copper wire in the proper position for power and ground. It might be excessive, but I didn't want to tap any fuses and potentially affect the circuits controlling any of the other electronics, and wanted to limit my splicing (not a mechanic, just a DYIer who did like a month of research beforehand) If there's any interest, I can share some links and more details
It has a better front and also comes with a rear so that depends on what you want. They don't compete imo since the mini is more of a single small front. The 229 is like the decent middle ground before you start entering the higher end stuff like the 329t
A dashcam won't capture the moment when time stopped and you were sucked into the alien spaceship through the window.... As an aside I bought and will install a Viofo 329T [Best Dashcam of 2025](https://youtu.be/cTXR4axR5Os?si=Su9D2EEz0X8SOVoh)
VIOFO A329T. It has Starvis 2 sensors and a telephoto lens in the front which increases the chances you'll actually be able to capture a license plate. It does not have a cabin-facing camera, though Viofo does offer variations of the A329 if you prefer that over the telephoto lens capability. The downside is they are pricey. 4K in the front (wide), 2K telephoto, 2K rear. Whichever dashcam you end up getting, I highly recommend you get one with Starvis 2 camera sensors. Older cameras really are not worth your time or money.
One thing he left out, VIOFO has the A229 Pro which is basically the same camera, same image sensor as the 329T minus the telephoto lens, and it’s a butt-ton cheaper than the A329T. Not cheap, but not obscene. And considering the praise on the wide angle for the A329T, it’s a smart choice at the higher end of budgets. I got mine for $449 AUD.
The A119 Mini 2 has the Starvis 2 sensor, but it's the 2K version (the same used in the A229's rear camera). The A119M Pro offers the 4K sensor. The A119 Mini Pro 2 is currently $192 AUD. For an additional $80 AUD you can get the A119M Pro, which upgrades to 4K video. For another $208 more than the A119M Pro, you can get the A229 Pro, which adds the additional 2K rear camera and a slightly larger built-in screen.
The A229S / A329T is way better than the original A329 from last year. Different chip set, upgraded thermal cooling, better sensors, more bells and whistles. I think I you’ll like it. Get the new HK6 hardwire Check out the vortex radar YouTube channel A329S reviews
I got a VIOFO A329T which has both a wide and telephoto front camera. This helps a lot but I haven't tested it in all conditions.
