I have a Wolfbox and like it. Good customer support in my experience. I use it on a truck where the center rearview mirror is blocked, so it's key to being able to see directly behind the truck via camera. And the dash cam works well, with the usual functions.

I just installed a Wolfbox G900 Tripro. Great unit; love it. Great customer support. Front bumper camera is killer for offroading. And the mirror dashcam is 4k. You could use it with the 12v cig lighter as a temp install, and run the cable for the camera up to the bumper with a temporary install, but not sure it's worth it in your case unless you intend to install it permanantly. They have models with fewer than three cameras, so you could use just the mirror unit and not the rear cam. Or maybe a used Go Pro even.

I have used them, but meh. A dashcam of some dude in a hoody taking my stuff? cops won't care. They'll probably snag the dashcam too. But OTOH I love cameras for increased vision; the dashcams are just a side effect and a bonus for occasional video use. I have the Wolfbox G900 Tripro and love it. On my ¾ truck it gives me vision where the OEM cams don't: at speed low in front (my OEM cuts out at 8MPH), and in the rear at speed too. Both viewed in the overhead rearview, NOT the center console (it's a lot easier to check up there than the console, but maybe that's just decades of habit). Great customer support from Wolfbox too. Some offroaders even mount the front camera down on the front axle or further back. It has GPS too. And a dashcam mounted on the rearview mirror. I did wire mine with the always-hot option for security when parked, if I need it. Records either a time lapse or upon a big lurch. Be fun to catch a bear trying to get me...YouTube fame! My front rearview dash is a quite decent 3k. Others are 1080P IIRC. Quite decent footage, but small sensors so of course rather meh in the dark. One REALLY nice feature of the front cam is when cresting whoops and dunes and hills when you can't see any ground in the windshield; a lot mount front still sees the ground and more on the other side.

Take a look at Wolfbox. It snaps over the rearview mirror and doesn't block any part of the windshield. Uses the new backup camera as the rear view camera feed.

I think cheap dashcams quality suffers the most in night time. I used to have a wolfbox g900 and during night time it recorded like a potato. How’s it with this one? But ever since this sub has raised awareness about battery pack dashcams vs supercapacitors I don’t think I’ll ever get a non-supercapacitor one.

They have a few models each. I got the G900 Tripro which has a Starvis 2 front camera. Not sure what the Purecel thing is in the rear (got these mainly to get a digital rear view). Pelsee p12 pro max has starvis 2 front and starvis rear.

Check YouTube - there are several people dedicated to reviewing dash cams. For image clarity, from what I understand, you’ll need to be mindful of the camera sensor not just resolution. Typically the rear camera will be lower resolution and lower quality sensor. I went with Wolfbox G900 Tripro since I wanted a rear view mirror cam specifically. It came with wiring to do the parking mode recording but I didn’t install that. NGL, some of the wire routing tested my patience. $350 sounds fine for an install.

We just started using the Wolfbox G900 Tripro. I mostly got this for the digital rear view mirror functionality but the Dashcam is good on this unit, too. What I gathered is you need a good camera/chip to really pick up details like license plate numbers. So far my husband doesn’t like the digital rear view but I think it’s great at covering blind spots as the angle is really wide. The tripro is a 3 channel unit with front, rear and extra camera (choose either exterior or interior mount).

I like my wolf box but I have a few complaints. the rearview camera quality kind of sucks, if you try and look at playback video footage It is sped up and not normal speed. I reached out the Wolf box and they said it is to save space when storing videos. The fix I was told is to use there dedicated video player. Last thing is the stabilization. just normal bumps in the road cause the camera footage to move a lot. I would prefer they use a camera that had some type of video stabilization to mitigate this. I give them a 3.5 out of 5

Yeah if they improve the video stabization and the rear camera quality then I will be happy. Also it records in 30FPS. Give me at least 60. It's 2025 lol.
