Bonavita 1900 tastes better because it has a better water distribution. And it’s half the price.

Bonavita 8 Cup Coffee Maker, One-Touch (BV1900TS) When we first got it 10+ years ago I tasted the difference immediately. Note that I am not a coffee efficianado (coffee to me falls into 3 groups - 10% awful, 10% exceptional, 80% tastes the same) and we were using mediocre pre-ground supermarket coffee. Cleaning is simply washing the carafe and running a cleaner (vinegar or decalcifier) through it every few months. Best of all is the price - less than $200.

9 years of daily use is solid for any drip machine honestly. the heating element is usually what kills them and if yours is still going strong at that pace thats impressive if youre looking for the actual BIFL move though — technivorm moccamaster. dutch made, hand assembled, copper boiling element hits the right temp every time. mine is 6 years old and the only maintenance is descaling every couple months. they sell replacement parts for literally everything including the power switch. $300 feels steep until you do the math on buying a new $60 maker every 3-4 years budget alternative: bonavita 1900TS, does SCA gold cup temps for about $100-120. not as rebuildable as the moccamaster but the brewing is on par or go full BIFL and get a pour over setup. hario v60 is $8, a gooseneck kettle is $30, and theres literally nothing to break

Modern coffee makers die because the guts are cheap, no matter how pretty the front panel looks. At the end of the day it's just a controlled water heater, and most companies cut corners where you can't see them. Look for a metal‑lined heating tank. The plastic boilers scale up and crack, then your machine is landfill. You want a simple bimetal thermostat. The electronic thermistor setups drift, or the board cooks itself after a few years of heat and steam. A mechanical pump or a gravity setup with real silicone tubing will outlive the PVC tubing that hardens and starts leaking. If you really need a timer, stick to old‑school membrane buttons. They’re about the only electronics that don’t give up early. Bonavita’s 8 cup with the older controls or the Behmor Brazen Plus get you decent internals without the Monolith‑from‑1982 look of the MM. Skip the touchscreens and the “smart” phone junk. That’s always the first thing to die, and none of it makes the coffee better.

I had a Bonavita, traded up to a Moccamaster, and a few months later, went back to the Bonavita. Don't believe the hype.

I have one of these and it's still going strong after a decade of use. The thermal carafe is nice. Keeps coffee hot for a long time and doesn't burn it because there's no heating element. It has one button on it, so operation couldn't be easier.
