The Breville Precision is excellent and is a jack of all trades that can do coffee a.million different ways. It would be an excellent choice. BUT, and hear me out on this one - consider a Bunn speed brew elite. I know, not 3rd wave approved but it works just like the commercial machines. It keeps 70 oz of water at 200 deg at all times. The water you pour into the tank displaces hot water from the tank onto the coffee. It doesn't drip and sputter or even dribble like boiler machines. The water hits the coffee in a streaming swirl. So here's the thing. It extracts significantly more that a pour over. My guess is that it acts more like a percolator than a drip machine because the basket fills with water over the top of the coffee and it is swirling. Fills my thermos with 30 oz of coffee in 2.5 minutes. It's excellent. And it also comes in a thermal carafe version. I got it at Kohl's on sale with another coupon and with $20 Kohl's cash for $93.
We have had numerous coffee makers that have been mentioned…finally gave up on cool esthetic machines and bought a BUNN BT Speed Brew 10-Cup with the thermal carafe. Makes an excellent, hot cup. Bunn offers an excellent warranty as well if you register the product.
Yes keep them separate, look into the Bunn speed brew with thermal carafe for a brewer. Keeps water at the right temperature and brews quickly.
I started with an inexpensive Mr Coffee machine, just in case I wasn't going to be a coffee-lovin' exmo. 😆 I graduated to a Bunn Speed Brew coffeemaker with an internal reservoir and love it! I also have a subscription to Lifeboost coffee. It is low acid and easier on my digestive system.
I have a Bunn Thermal. It's 15 years old. Same Bunn coffeemaker with a thermos pot so the coffee stays hot and doesn't burn. It makes great coffee consistently and fast.
Bunn with the thermos pot.
I had a Bunn Speed Brew, and it was finicky and incredibly hard to keep clean. Sure, it made a fast pot, but the coffee was mediocre, in my opinion.
I have the bunn speedbrew. It’s always on. Add grounds, add water, close lid. Make sure the carafe is in place because it’s already making coffee. It does not make *great* coffee like the moccamaster. But if you buy bulk or semi-bulk coffee, you probably don’t need that. I run a variety of heb grounds through mine successfully.
I sense the general consensus will be Moccamaster. And based on reviews, I can't disagree. But I have two concerns about them. First is the price ($350+), and the other is the height. Most kitchens are going to have upper cabinets, and to me, it would require me pulling it out to pour water into it, and then push it back. Seems very inconvenient. FWIW, our go-to coffee maker has been the Bunn Speed Brew line of products.
Obviously the win goes to Moccamaster. And while I’ve never measured one, they look too tall to make them practical. Not to mention expensive. We’ve used Bunn for at least 30 years (not the same unit), and feel very comfortable recommending them.
