-OXO Brew Rapid Brewer reasonably inexpensive unless you live in the U.K. simple to use excellent brewer. -Hario Switch if you’re looking for a versatile brewer Highly recommend either brewer, I use both daily. No need for expensive automated solutions save yourself a small fortune and enjoy delicious coffee.
It’s not that complicated if all you want is an enjoyable daily brews, but the ceiling is quite high. V60 is cheap but not the most forgiving. I think the most newb-friendly brewers right now are Hario Switch and Orea Z1. You can even buy a drip assist for Hario Switch to pretty much eliminate one variable to worry about (agitation). If you don’t care about these stuff, just get Aiden or Xbloom.
I purchased another Bonavita, which ended up being absolute trash. It brewed an amazing cup...until it broke some 5 months later. For now, I'm absolutely in love with my Hario Switch combined with an Ode 2 - the hybrid recipes are truly spectacular in drawing out a near-perfect cup. I am considering another Moccamaster, especially when I read some success stories beyond just the QC and aesthetics (which are truly great).
I have a Hario Switch which is similar and love it
The Clever Dripper or Hario Switch are filtered single cup immersion brewers. Extremely simple, and very consistent You just need any ordinary kettle, no skill beyond being able to set a timer. Makes delicious and consistent cups without too much fuss
We have a Moccamaster, but we also have a really small kitchen with no counter space so it can’t really live out on the counter. So, we used to use it all the time, but as I got used to doing pour overs, we put it away and it only comes out for large batch brews for company now (e.g., when we want coffee for 4-6 people). The “daily drivers” are a Hario Switch (which is basically Hario’s equivalent to the Clever Dripper) and a Chemex with a pouring kettle. Usually there are two of us drinking and we both want an amount of coffee equal to about 400 ml (i.e., 800ml total). That makes the Switch less than ideal as it can’t really do more than 500ml without brewing extra concentrated and then diluting. So, my Chemex gets used at least once on 5/7 days on average. Once you have it down pat, it’s a relaxing little ritual that doesn’t take all that long. You can walk away from most of the draw down, too. If it is just me or I am just incredibly tired or distracted, I make the Switch.
The Switch is my daily driver - it can brew upto 500ml and you will get beautiful tasting coffee. You will have to be slightly more involved in the brewing process when compared to a regular coffee dripper, but it's so worth it. The recipe I use is also super simple and always gives a good cup of coffee. Bloom with 3x the water for 30 secs. Divide the remaining water into 2 pours, one with the Switch Open and one with the Switch closed for 30 seconds.
Coffee preferences are so subjective, so giving advice is a little difficult. An affordable grinder like the Baratza Encore and an Aeropress will get you 85% of the way there. This does require a small amount of work that some people will find to be too much. The Moccamaster and Fellow Ode or DF64 would probably be a great match for you. It’s expensive though. A Hario Switch or OXO Rapid Brewer paired with an insane grinder (Monolith M98V, 1ZPresso K-Ultra/ZP6/, Pietro, or some sort of 80mm or 98mm burr grinder), gooseneck kettle, scale, and remineralized water is about as far as one can go with the hobby. Cometeer Coffee Capsules are the fastest and easiest way to get a solid cup of coffee. I had a few dozen of these shipped to me on a promotional thing a few years ago and was blown away. They are frozen coffee concentrates that you just pour boiling water over. I am waiting for my Zerno Z2 to arrive sometime in 2026.
