Ok so I have some experience here. I've owned 2 different Bonavita, and Oxo 9 cup, Oxo 8 cup, Moccamaster KBGT, and finally a Fellow Aiden. If you are looking for the very best coffee maker for what you get in the cup as black coffee, then of those all that is hands down the Aiden. However, for all the technical wizardry it has, it is mostly plastic, so longevity is a definite unknown. Of the other ones, Oxo has the best warranty in practice, and Technivorm has the best warranty on paper. Technivorm does not warranty their carafes at all - if it breaks, you are out $80+ shipping to replace it. This is even if it breaks due to a manufacturing flaw or some other reason. Oxo on the other hand replaced my carafe for free on my Oxo 9 cup 3 times - over time it would lose the vacuum, and would get hot to the touch. The coffee maker was 6+ years old the last time - long out of warranty, but they still replaced the carafe. The Oxo 9 cup is the best all around of the coffee makers I had before the Aiden. While it is tall, it made excellent coffee, and was programmable if you wanted to use that. It requires no stirring of the coffee while it is brewing. I cannot say the same with the Technivorm. While the Moccamaster does make excellent coffee, it is more hands-on to get the best out of it because of their dumb design for the shower bar. Ground saturation is an issue - I usually stirred everything after about 1 minute of brewing. The bar also feels like it is just a bit too short - most of the water doesn't fall in the center but rather closer to the back. The Bonavita coffee makers work well, and are smaller. My old one died for no reason that I could determine after a few years. The ones made now though are technically a different company - that original company went bankrupt. The Oxo 8 cup was an absolute disaster - no idea how that thing got the praise that it does from some reviewers. It always had to be stirred or half the coffee would never even get wet. I hated it. Overall from a BIFL perspective, the TV Moccamaster is likely the top candidate. They do just work for a long time, usually. Make sure to buy it from an authorized retailer and keep your proof of purchase if you need warranty service. If you buy one with a thermal carafe - baby it. They changed from being all stainless and basically unbreakable to being glass lined a couple years ago. It may keep coffee hotter but the carafes are very delicate and prone to breaking.
r/BuyItForLife • What is the Best Coffee Makers on the Market? ->That’s what I’ve got and it’s been working well for 2 years now.
r/BuyItForLife • Is the Moccamaster actually worth the cost? ->+1 for Oxo. Browse FB marketplace, we found ours brand new unopened for half off.
r/JamesHoffmann • What’s the Best Drip Coffee Maker to Buy Right Now? ->Another vote for the Oxo 8. Been using it for 4+ years for drip (usually a pot, sometimes the single-serve option). Great customer service too when I broke the basket handle.
r/BuyItForLife • What is the Best Coffee Makers on the Market? ->Time will tell if it’s BIFL, but we’ve had an Oxo 8 cup for two years and it makes the best coffee that we’ve ever had…
r/BuyItForLife • Looking for a BIFL coffee maker! ->Consider the OXO 8 Cup machine. We were in the market 2 years ago and we narrowed our choice between the Moccamaster and the OXO - Both met the SCA standard and we opted for the OXO because it was on sale for half the cost of the Moccamaster. We use it daily, consistent 200° brewed coffee, no issues…
r/BuyItForLife • Is the Moccamaster actually worth the cost? ->Sorry to hear that! Ours is still plugging away after almost 3 years…
r/BuyItForLife • Is the Moccamaster actually worth the cost? ->OXO makes an 8 cup maker that does really well and is usually inexpensive. I use it every day. It has an option for small batches like pour overs and I think it nails it. It may be sacrilegious to say here, but I choose it over a moccamaster because of how little counter space it takes up.
r/JamesHoffmann • Best coffee maker machine - what's your top choice for home today? ->Unpopular opinion. No. I made a post a few days ago. You can read up on it. The unit feels cheap. Compared to my oxo which cost 50% less, it is considerably cheaper plastics. As for the brew. No matter what I do, the coffee is weak and under extracted. I'm currently waiting for different filters. I suspect the moccamaster filters are too thick, and catch too many oils / flavor compounds. As someone who really wanted to love the moccamaster, I can only recommend it for style and the absolutely amazing thermal carafe it comes with. As for actual brewing and material quality, it is second tier.
r/Moccamaster • Are the rumours true, is it truly that good? ->It makes a great cup of coffee, but so does my oxo 8 cup. Is it worth the cost ? Hard to say. The oxo feels more premium. It has denser plastics, and a less fiddly design. Overall, it's more solid at over $100 less. I think the moccamaster price has a pretty big brand mark up. Need to pay for those 8 week northern European vacations after all. That being said, I like the style , and it does deliver on a quality brew. If you look at how much it costs to drink good coffee every day, the price of the unit quickly Becomes inconsequential. If you are price sensitive, get the oxo and don't look back. It has a more modern design, and a more premium feel. On the other hand, the moccamaster has style, heritage and pedigree. The moccamaster thermos is also way better than any other one I've used. Can't go wrong either way.
r/BuyItForLife • Is the Moccamaster actually worth the cost? ->We have the OXO 8-cup drip and have never had any issues. It doesn't have any fancy features, so there's nothing to really figure out, and it makes great coffee. People are constantly asking us where we got the coffee, but I think it's also bc of the machine!
r/airbnb_hosts • Best coffee maker for guests PLEASE DON'T SAY KEURIG ->Have one of each. The OXO makes very good coffee. The Moccamaster makes better coffee.
r/BuyItForLife • Moccamaster or OXO coffee maker? ->The oxo brew 8 cup is the best appliance I have bought in my 46 years of life.
r/BuyItForLife • Moccamaster or OXO coffee maker? ->I've had both Moccamaster and OXO 8 cup brewer. I've also had the OXO 9 cup brewer. Flavor-wise, Moccamaster is way better than the OXO 8 cup. Moccamaster and OXO 9 cup brewer were much more similar. Design-wise, the OXO 8 cup is a lot shorter and can fit in many more places. The piece that screws into the carafe is a detachable design with a hard plastic piece and a rubber piece. The rubber piece retains a lot more coffee oils than the plastic pieces. I prefer Moccamaster. I sold the OXO 8 cup brewer and 9 cup brewer and kept my Moccamaster. If it broke, I'd fix it. If it broke beyond repair, I'd buy another one immediately.
r/BuyItForLife • Moccamaster or OXO coffee maker? ->I have the OXO 8-cup. It’s a simple, dumb machine that has been brewing good, single mug coffee for me for 5 years now. The “descale me” light no longer shuts off even after a clean cycle now. But that’s OK as I just run a citric acid solution through her on a regular 6-month schedule. It’s Jan. 1, so that means she’s due as of today.
r/JamesHoffmann • Best coffee maker / machine to buy 2025 ->Here’s a huge sleeper pick, but I have the OXO 8-Cup Brewer and absolutely love it. It has a single cup (2-4 cups) option with Kalita 185 insert also. I’ve linked it so you can check it out. It’s $200 but you can regularly get it on sale, especially around Black Friday. It’s also SCA certified. Comparing the 2-4 cup kalita insert brews to something like a v60 pour over… the v60 would give you an advantage BUT for it being automated the OXO absolutely gets the job done and I use it daily vs making myself a pour over. Additionally, the larger batch brews it does 5-8 cups are consistently phenomenal. Super flavorful cups that are evenly extracted. The carafe keeps coffee hot for well over 2 hours. Given you were looking at spending around $400 on the Aiden alone, you can get the OXO 8 cup and the fellow Opus grinder together for that price! This would be a banger combo if you’re looking for an electric grinder. r/pourover • I’ve researched too many coffee makers and I need guidance ->It may not get you nods from the cool kids, but the OXO Brew 8 Cup has served me very well. No nonsense, easy to clean, fast, and SCA gold certified.
r/JamesHoffmann • What’s the Best Drip Coffee Maker to Buy Right Now? ->The oxo brew 8 cup is the best standard drip coffee maker I've ever owned OXO Brew 8 Cup Coffee Maker | Stainless Steel, Black https://a.co/d/2dRK4F8
r/AskMen • What is the best coffee machine on the market for under $350.00 ->Same here. Very impressed with the consistency of this thing. Makes better drip than I ever could attempting pour over.
r/BuyItForLife • Is the Moccamaster actually worth the cost? ->Picked this up recently, quite impressed with it! Carafe is great, coffee taste and temperature is excellent, love that you can brew one cup, or a half pot, as well as a full pot.
r/JamesHoffmann • Best coffee maker machine - what's your top choice for home today? ->My oxo 8 is really good. I used to be strictly aeropress and almost never use it any more.
r/BuyItForLife • What is the Best Coffee Makers on the Market? ->I have oxo 8 cup and aeropress. I made aeropress for years but the 8 cup is so convenient I hardly use it at all now.
r/BuyItForLife • Looking for a BIFL coffee maker! ->Oxo 8 cup has a special basket for single brews. It's been a good brewer for me for the past four or five years. I can't compare it to the others being recommended here, but it was definitely a step up from our previous machine (nothing special, a Capresso I think).
r/JamesHoffmann • Recommendations for single serve and pot coffee makers? ->I also have the 8 cup and love it! The Moccamaster was my second choice, but the Oxo still has solid construction and was half the price at the time I got it
r/BuyItForLife • Looking for a BIFL coffee maker! ->I have the OXO and like it a lot! It makes some real good coffee at a fraction of the cost of the Moccamaster (I got mine for about $160 with a coupon code). I personally prefer the insulated carafe over a glass one because I don't want a hot plate burning my coffee and messing with the flavor. As for overflowing, I haven't tried a full 8 cups before, so mine has never overflowed. You could always fill the tank using the carafe so you know exactly how full it'll be once brewed
r/BuyItForLife • Moccamaster or OXO coffee maker? ->Not Bonavita. Had one brewer for 5 years before I broke it during a remodel. Bought the exact one and it died at about 1.5 years. Warranty is only 1 year and they don’t give a fuck about helping you beyond that. $200 coffee machine and don’t sell replacement parts or offer service. In ours, we think it was a temp sensor that went out as it stopped brewing halfway through. Bought the OXO 8 cup as a replacement, but liking it after the last month or so.
r/BuyItForLife • Looking for a BIFL coffee maker! ->Our OXO lasted less than a year of being used 4x/week. Customer service is non-existent. So disappointed in our purchase.
r/BuyItForLife • Is the Moccamaster actually worth the cost? ->When I had the same desire, we ended up buying this machine: [OXO 8-cup coffee maker](https://www.oxo.com/8-cup-coffee-maker.html) Especially if you do a good job keeping it clean, it does a good job making 2 cups of coffee using the Kalita wave insert. We drink light roasted coffee, usually fruity natural Ethiopians. We use 40 g of coffee at about 630 g of water. Although you are supposed to use the Kalita wave insert along with the larger brew basket, I stopped doing that so that it was easier to keep the machine clean.
r/JamesHoffmann • Advice on new filter/drip coffee machine for smaller batches eg 1-3 cups ->Has the OXO gone up in price? I have one (and I love it, definitely recommend it) but I don’t remember it being so expensive haha maybe I got it on sale too
r/BuyItForLife • Is the Moccamaster actually worth the cost? ->Yeah I was gonna say all these recommendations for the manual stuff is great but very obviously not what you’re looking for. I’d recommend the OXO 8 cup. Cheaper than the Moccamaster and still on the SCA list of approved coffee makers. I love mine. It even has a single cup brewing option (though admittedly I don’t know how well that part works). If you do want something that’s not a machine but doesn’t require extra work, I’d recommend the clever dripper. But yeah there’s nothing more convenient than just pressing a button haha
r/BuyItForLife • Is the Moccamaster actually worth the cost? ->I’ve had my OXO for 2 years and no issues. I’m a former barista and I still think it makes a good cup of coffee. The metal carafe keeps coffee hot for a long time without scorching it. I recommend it.
r/BuyItForLife • Moccamaster or OXO coffee maker? ->I had the 8 cup and it up and died on me after five years or so. I switched to a pour over since I only drink one cup a day. I’m tempted by the moccamaster but I don’t think it would fit in my appliance cabinet.
r/BuyItForLife • Moccamaster or OXO coffee maker? ->Oxo 8 cup is fantastic and has been on deep discount lately. Carafe keeps coffee hot for forever but pouring is a bit slow, upside is you can use your own cup as well. Overflow: learning curve between small batch and large for switching basket and drip opening. Literally just pay attention to the amount and flip the slider.
r/BuyItForLife • Moccamaster or OXO coffee maker? ->I got the OXO only because I wanted a metal carafe. I kept breaking the glass ones. It's fine but it doesn't actually keep the coffee that hot after you brew it, it doesn't have a warming plate - the insulated carafe is the only thinking keeping the coffee warm and it doesn't work that well. I considered both when I bought this and wish I had gone with the Moccamaster.
r/BuyItForLife • Moccamaster or OXO coffee maker? ->I just ordered an 8 cup due to the fact it’s more than half the price of a MM and have heard that although MM stuff is replaceable it still feels cheap. If I’m paying $500 CAD for a drip machine I want it to feel like a $500 machine. Also not into having to manually fuck with my grinds as it brews like some MM users claim they have to to get a great brew. Seen a lot of Amazon reviews claiming their MM overflows or doesn’t distribute the water evenly on the grounds. OXO also has a 2-4 cup option if you don’t make a full pot everyday like myself whereas the MM doesn’t have that option (Will update my thoughts after trying when it arrives)
r/BuyItForLife • Moccamaster or OXO coffee maker? ->This is so validating to hear haha I ordered my OXO last week @$200 CAD and just checked today to see the price jumped up to $275. Got one just in time before the price raise
r/BuyItForLife • Moccamaster or OXO coffee maker? ->My oxo makes very good coffe but I wish it had a hot plate. I’ve never had an overflow issue.
r/BuyItForLife • Moccamaster or OXO coffee maker? ->YouTubers have tested these machines. The OXO does get hot enough and so do many others. But it’s highly unlikely to last as long.
r/BuyItForLife • Moccamaster or OXO coffee maker? ->What "Features"? I got a drip machine to make coffee easy. Espresso is a whole different thing. Don't spend that much on a lark. The Oxo and MM will make similar coffee, the KBGV Select will do a better job of small batches, and is more BIFL as its more repairable. Spend the leftover on a grinder.
r/JamesHoffmann • Best coffee maker / machine to buy 2025 ->OXO 8cup has really done well for us. I have an ecm synchronika for espresso and all sorts of brewers, but I haven’t been able to beat (strictly from a convenience basis) batch brewing with the oxo. I start with a morning cappuccino and then share the carafe of the oxo with my wife for the rest of the morning. Another commenter said it was a dumb machine and it really is, but still makes good coffee. My can’t make it without list: Synchronika OXO Cleverdripper If you’re into fiddling, I also have a next level pulsar that I have enjoyed making recipes for. Immersion v percolation in the same brew.
r/JamesHoffmann • Best coffee maker / machine to buy 2025 ->It’s worth pointing out that you’d almost certainly need a different grinder for good espresso. The general consensus is that the grinder is worth spending more on than the machine for espresso (or will make the bigger difference). Your Encore is great for filter, French press etc. so you might want to focus on those if you’re not wanting to open the grinder can of worms. I have an espresso machine, an OXO 8 cup, French press and aeropress and am very happy with all options. I tend to use whichever feels like less work at the time, which oddly varies. Aeropress is sensational value for a really good cup of coffee. Hope that’s useful :)
r/JamesHoffmann • Best coffee maker / machine to buy 2025 ->The MoccaMaster has a less than ideal shower head. And it's very annoying given the build quality and price of that thing. I have an OXO 8 cup, and it's fantastic. Look on eBay if interested. Copped mine for 100$. With that being said, the Behmor brazen plus 3.0 is the best brewer on the market and much cheaper than MoccaMaster. The brazen can be customized in so many ways. You can change how long it blooms, you can change the temperature of the water, you can change if it pulses or doesn't, and it has hands down the best showerhead in the game.
r/JamesHoffmann • I bought a Moccamaster coffee machine ->we have the oxo one, we are pretty happy with it!
r/JamesHoffmann • What’s the Best Drip Coffee Maker to Buy Right Now? ->It's the 8 cup.
r/JamesHoffmann • What’s the Best Drip Coffee Maker to Buy Right Now? ->I have this, it’s looks and works great
r/JamesHoffmann • What’s the Best Drip Coffee Maker to Buy Right Now? ->I spent a few months down this rabbit hole. Ultimately, I settled on a Bonavita Connoisseur. I spent a month with a Moccamaster and it was tedious, especially for half pots (I'm also a former barista of 10+ years). It's a beautiful machine with stellar QC, but it brews too fast and the uneven spray head drove me batty. I constantly adjusted grind on my X-Ultra and burned through 3 bags of beans before I finally gave up and returned it. It such a lovely machine in terms of aesthetics though and I think that's why MM Truthers swear by it. The coffee it brews is meh imo. I tried an OXO 8 Cup as well. It was decent, but the Connoisseur won out. Taste is all I care about it brews a very tasty cup with distinguishable notes and, most importantly, with ease. It took me all of 3 pot to dial it in. It's very forgiving. Currently sipping a lovely Rwanda with an amazing strawberry note. *However*, Bonavita QC is bad to awful. I've don't expect this machine to last more than a 3-4 years. I'm also curious about the Ratio Four but I'm already hearing not so great things.
r/JamesHoffmann • What’s the Best Drip Coffee Maker to Buy Right Now? ->If you want a little cheaper option, the Oxo 8 or 9 cup coffee makers are also SCA approved automated pourover styles and run around $200 instead of like $350.
r/BuyItForLife • What is the Best Coffee Makers on the Market? ->I have an OXO 8 cup coffee maker makes some really good coffee.
r/BuyItForLife • What is the Best Coffee Makers on the Market? ->Lol, yeah, I suppose I was exaggerating a bit. Anyways, that’s beside the point - I don’t think it would be worth the money for OP to buy an Aiden if he has a poor quality grinder and isn’t buying good beans. That was the main thing I was trying to say. I’ve owned an Oxo 8-cup, Breville Precision and my dad owns an Aiden so I’ve tried that now too and they are absolutely fantastic, although my favorite is still a pour over. None of those would be as good without good grinders, though.
r/pourover • Is xBloom the only real pourover machine? ->I agree. The Oxo is great.
r/BuyItForLife • Is the Moccamaster actually worth the cost? ->Anything certified by the SCA is going to make a great cup of coffee. Lots of folks swear by the Moccamaster, I have an OXO because it was like half the price, but I doubt you can go wrong with anything on this list. https://sca.coffee/certified-home-brewer
r/homeowners • Best coffee maker for home use ->We have the oxo and I'll second that it makes. A great cup of coffee
r/moderatelygranolamoms • Need advice on choosing the best drip coffee maker - Thought on using a non-toxic one? ->I’ve got the OXO which I use when guest are here (day in and out I mostly brew espresso or pour overs.) it makes a very good cup of coffee, on par with the Moccamaster. It is louder and doesn’t feel like it will last 20years like most Moccamasters do. For occasional use or tighter budget it’s a really good option. Sometimes you just need a big drop for ease of use.
r/moderatelygranolamoms • Need advice on choosing the best drip coffee maker - Thought on using a non-toxic one? ->If you are in the US check the current SCA approved coffee makers. I have a Moccamaster, bought used for €100. The Oxo ones are highly rated too though & I had a KitchenAid that was on the SCA list but they haven't resubmitted it for approval so it's not there anymore but still a great cup of coffee. Iirc that's about $150? New.
r/BuyItForLife • Is the Moccamaster actually worth the cost? ->Ok hear me out. Nespresso. The vertuo type makes 7oz cups (which is as strong as like 12oz of drip) and it’s sooo good! We’ve switched entirely and put away our regular coffee maker. Which, btw, is an oxo kind. I think it was like $200-$300, and makes really good coffee!! There’s no timer on it but it’s pretty quick and keeps coffee hot like literally all day, which was amazing when our oldest was a newborn.
r/workingmoms • Best coffee makers commonly chosen by most people today? ->I loved my Oxo. Great machine, super easy, one button great cup. Aiden there’s so much you can do. I can control the temperature and duration of the bloom, temp & the rate of water pulses into the bed of coffee throughout the brew. I can do an 8 hour cold brew. Aiden will use the exact amount of water you set and will tell you how much coffee to add based on your selected profile, the type of coffee or exact batch from specific brand. It’s the closest cup to pour over I’ve had from a machine.
r/pourover • Fellow Aiden Review ->Don’t get a glass carafe. Get a thermal carafe instead. The glass craft needs to be heated, and those heat plates use hundreds of watts of electricity, and also negatively affect the taste of coffee. (Source: 30+ years in the coffee industry.) We have an Oxo at home and love it. It brews at the appropriate temperature, has a very good extraction rate, and brews into a thermal carafe which keeps the coffee hot and drinkable for hours.
r/Cooking • drip coffee pot recommendations ->A while back, I had a fancy Oxo coffee maker that had a removeable water scale, you could tell how many cups of coffee you want to make, how hot do you want the coffee to be, how to brew the coffee based on how the grids are, etc. It originally cost about $300 back in 2016 or so. It was great while it worked but after a few months, it kept on giving me random error messages (descaling, water scale needed to be constantly reset, it would stop mid-brew, etc. After about a month of trying to troubleshoot it, I gave up on it and got a Moccamaster for the simplicity (No scales and it had just 2 buttons - on/off and half pot/full pot) of making a simple but enjoyable cup of coffee. It's also incredibly dependable to work whenever I need it to and I have some relief knowing that when it comes time to repair it, the parts for it will be readably available.
r/BuyItForLife • Is the Moccamaster actually worth the cost? ->They’re good, but I think they’re overpriced. Towards the end of my Moccamaster’s life it wasn’t brewing very good coffee no matter how many times I descaled it. I got about ten years out of it. I replaced it with an OXO brewer, which was about half the price and, frankly, brews as good if not better coffee than the Moccamaster ever did. It doesn’t look as cool, admittedly, but it has a bloom cycle, and the shower head distributes water more evenly over the grounds. I never understood the Moccamaster’s weird wand thing with a single line of holes. It never saturated the coffee very evenly. I feel like the Moccamaster needs a design reboot.
r/BuyItForLife • Is the Moccamaster actually worth the cost? ->I agree. I’ve had both machines. The OXO is excellent and brews coffee just as well for half the price. I still miss my Moccamaster sometimes because I liked how it looked, but that’s about it.
r/BuyItForLife • Is the Moccamaster actually worth the cost? ->Moccamaster. I have had both (thermal carafe version) and prefer the MM. America’s Test Kitchen just reviewed some options and recommended the thermal carafe version. Using a burner to keep coffee hot can burn it. I started with the Oxo and the stupid dial control for everything was annoying. I had to keep the instructions nearby for reference. Also, the water diffuser (where the water comes out over the grounds) would not stay on and constantly fell in the grounds which would cause an overflow and grounds would end up in the carafe. The MM has an on/off switch and a button at the button that the carafe presses against to say it’s properly seated so the water won’t run everywhere. I’ve had it 4 years and never had an issue. Perfect coffee in around 6 minutes. I recommend paper filters because the reusable ones still let some grounds through ( may just be that my burr grinder makes a little fine powder). Every box of filters (100), I run one of the cleaners through with a couple of rinse cycles and she keeps purring along. I also pull the top square metal water dispenser off every week or two and give it a quick scrub in the sink. As the water drips down on the grounds, the steeping water can splash on it. Every review I saw on it said you could also easily buy any of the parts if they wear out.
r/BuyItForLife • Moccamaster or OXO coffee maker? ->Found a moccamaster for free on my towns buy nothing FB page. Needed a new filter basket and lid for the water tank as they were both missing. Both easily grabbed from Amazon for $15-20 each. Looks and works like new. Great coffee. The Oxo also get hot enough, and has great customer service for lot of replacement parts.
r/BuyItForLife • What is the Best Coffee Makers on the Market? ->
