they come in both flavors, I'm currently flying a pre-built (Bind N Fly) type called a Meteor65 It doesn't handle wind well (it's \~35g what do you expect?) but if you can catch a relatively slack wind time it does just fine outside. here's mine outside: [https://youtu.be/F6q76USPcZE?si=BIFamHDDID0KxOH6](https://youtu.be/F6q76USPcZE?si=BIFamHDDID0KxOH6)

I’d go with the air65 or meteor65 instead, they have the good battery connectors, and the mobula6 2024 has issues.

I really gotta make a copypasta for this… Drone: BetaFPV air65 or 75 or meteor65 or 75, depending on if you want to fly indoors or outdoors. Radio: anything from Radiomaster or Jumper with ELRS. Cheapest option is the Radiomaster Pocket or Pocket Crush. Make sure it has ELRS not cc2500 2 18650 batteries Goggles: eachine ev800d or Skyzone cobra x Batteries: BetaFPV lava or Tattu, with a bt2.0 connector. For 65mm, you want 300mah, for 75mm you want 450-550mah Charger: Vifly Whoopstor 3 Depending on various factors this should fit under $350 USD Ah and most importantly, a sim. Velocidrone with the freestyle addon, or Tryp. Get the controller and the sim first so you can get some practice in.

The 75mm varietals are better for outside You don’t want an rtf kit, the transmitters in those are almost universally e-waste and there are many stories of them failing in like a week, plus they’re incompatible with other drones you might want in the future. Here’s a shopping list: Drone: BetaFPV air65 or 75 or meteor65 or 75, depending on if you want to fly indoors or outdoors. Radio: anything from Radiomaster or Jumper with ELRS. Yes, the air65 has a camera and video transmitter. Cheapest I’d go on the goggles is the eachine ev800d. A better (more expensive) choice would be the Skyzone cobra x Egh, I’ll just copypasta the full setup Drone: BetaFPV air65 or 75 or meteor65 or 75, depending on if you want to fly indoors or outdoors. I'd argue for the 2022 versions of the meteor75 or meteor65, if only because they have motor plugs instead of direct soldered motors. If you're just starting out, soldering is a good skill to learn, but for repairability motor plugs are king. (Really just something with motor plugs, I'm not sure if there's newer BnF out there.)

It depends on the kind of drone he flew. Was it a camera drone, like a DJI? Or was it an FPV drone, with the goggles? They're two completely different experiences. If it was a DJI, they all basically function the same, but a mini4 is probably the best pick for most beginners. If it's FPV, a tiny whoop like a mobula6, meteor65, or a "ready to fly" (RTF) kit like the EMAX tinyhawk bundle. r/FPV r/tinywhoop r/dji

1. That's a very broad question but since you specified racing it narrows it down a bit. 1. Analog and HDZero are the best video system options for racing. 2. It's often recommended to start small. The Air 65/75 and Meteor 65/75 tinywhoops from BetaFPV are fun to fly and relatively cheap and durable. 2. Most RTF kits like those from BetaFPV are not recommended. Their controllers and goggles are very cheap. Getting a BNF drone ( bind and fly ) and pairing it with a quality controller and pair of goggles is usually a better option. 3. You can easily get an analog setup including batteries and charger within this budget. HDZero goggles alone are $650 so that is not an option for you - yet. 4. Start with a controller and simulator! 1. Find some drone racing events near you. See what kind of drones they are flying and get to know the community. Most events are very friendly and welcoming of newbies.

Fully concur with u/Ich_bin_schlecht. Go with Avata if you have zero interest in advancing to freestyle flying because it has a well-known yaw washout issue, and it's not a particularly responsive machine. Flight time is around 8 minutes. Picture quality is best in the business. If you plan to grow in the hobby, skip it and start with something more survivable to crashing like a BetaFPV Meteor 65 or HappyModel Mobula7. Be warned there's quite a learning curve with setup, throttle control and then acro mode, as u/Fat_Cat6969 alluded to. Flight times are around 3 minutes. Picture quality is like old VHS tapes.

Stage 1: Get the radio and 2x 18650 batteries first, then buy Liftoff on STEAM. Stage 2: Watch this video series and get used to flying around in Liftoff until you at least get the feel of how to move a drone around without crashing. [https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwoDb7WF6c8lCKhQOTy-Vb9LfW0VAIrTP](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwoDb7WF6c8lCKhQOTy-Vb9LfW0VAIrTP) Stage 3: Buy the goggles and either a Mobula 6, Mobula 7, Meteor 65, Meteor 65 Pro, Meteor 75, or Meteor 75 Pro. The drone should come with a couple of batteries and a little USB charger, which will do for starters. The Eachine 800D is recommended because the screen detaches and becomes a monitor. Stage 4: Your first upgrade will probably either be new propellers or a new frame (if you crashed a lot), or additional batteries (if you didn't crash a lot and want to fly more.) In either case, leave yourself enough room in your budget to repair your drones.

Have you tried a sim at all ? Because I wouldn't worry too much about an action cam till you learn to fly decent. Your just gonna get a bunch of shitty mp4's of you crashing, lol. I fly my meteor 65 outside all the time, even in some wind. It does fine

Honestly, the air frame is much less durable than the meteor65, so I'd recommend those. Especially for a beginner, the weight is less noticeable and fewer repairs needed means more flight time.

Just got one last week and love it. I have Mob6 and meteor65 which get about 1:30 of flight time. Get over 3 minutes on Hummingbird even with PH2 connector still installed (those Nectar batteries they sell are great too) I’m curious if anyone’s tried HDZ in one. I have an HDZ AIO on the way and debating on trying it out

I started on aquila16 about 2 months ago and harvested motors almost immediately, trash drone and batteries are useless. Just get a meteor 75 or 65, not the air unless you know your willing to solder. I started with 0 sim time and only have about 10 hours in, i also dont care if i break my drones flying them so i do break allot. Buildings half the fun for me

Absolutely not. Too expensive, too proprietary, too much extra junk. Get a ELRS controller like Radiomaster Boxer or Pocket, get comfortable in a simulator like Uncrashed, then get a tinywhoop like a meteor65 or meteor75 and go from there. Youll also of course need some goggles when you step into the real drone.

dont start with a kit, once you'll get better you' ll want to upgreade your gear. For the same price(or a little bit more) you can buy decent gear. - Betafpv meteor65/air65 100$-90$ - Eachine ev800d 80$ - Radiomaster Pocket 60$ - 2x 18650 batteries (for the radio) 15$ - Whoopstor v3 30$ (if you want a decent battery charger) - 300 mAh battery 22$ Total: 297/307 $ And those thing will last more than the one in the kit

7" is really a lot to start with at the beginning. Even a 5" quad can cut fingers off, anything bigger will do so even easier. I usually like Oscar Liang, but frankly all of these kits are basically only as good as something needs to be to fly one way only in warzones. The stuff they come with is most often made with no prior approval of Betaflight/ELRS developers and very likely to go up in flames or die in other mysterious ways. Altogether, you'd be starting off with poor quality equipment that's exponentially more likely to cut body parts off, go up in flames, fall out of the air for no reason, or a combination of those for something you might not even need. TL;DR: 7" quads are really not good beginner quads, cheap ones are going to be very dangerous, and decent quality ones will be a lot more expensive (closer to your total just for the drone alone). Do yourself and everyone around you a favor and get a decent micro indoor/outdoor setup with a quad like the BetaFPV Meteor Air 65/75, or the HappyModel Bassline/Crux 3/Crux 35

While kits like these will get you flying, the gear is practically useless when you want to upgrade anything. I'd recommend getting a proper radio, goggles, and drone separately. \* Radio: Radiomaster Pocket, Zorro, TX12 MK II, Boxer \* Goggles: Eachine EV800D, Skyzone Cobra \* Drone: HappyModel Mobula 6 (preferably not the 2024 version), Mobula 7 1s, or BetaFPV Meteor 65/65 Pro/75

I fly air65 indoors. I think I went with Air75 as it’s lighter and not marketed as a beginner drone really. I felt that I’d spent enough time in the sim and wanted something that’s as zippy as possible.

I bought the aquila16 a Month ago I really Liked it at the Beginning because in n-mode practically anyone can fly It. However after taking It Outside i immediatly realize the camera isnt the best when going from Bright to shadows you are blind during the day. So i got a Gofilm20 with Goggles L but i only flew it twice because Its really really cold Outside. Now i want to practicse acro mode more so i Just ordered a tinywhoop Air65 TL;Dr Aquila16 RTF Kit Pros: Easy to fly, very durable, cheap parts, actually good fly time 8mins Totally doable with 1100mAh Cons: is Not the Most agile, camera in Low light conditions, gets tossed by the Wind Outside. Conclusion: Its okay for your Entry to FPV If You dont want to build and have 0 Equipment and dont want to Figure Out what is what. Thats how It was for me I First Had no clue Other than i want to try fpv Then i flew and within a week interest became bigger and Ou start to look up Videos What is this why use that What is the best package rate etc Aquila16 can make you addicted and interested in more I have 3 sims but If you ask me theyre boring compared to real flying So far each of them (lift Off, lift Off Micro drones, DRL) has less than 10 hours in my library

I have a Meteor65 Pro and an Air65. The Meteor is much more durable and has ran into brick walls at max speed without damage. I have cracked one part of a frame and had to replace the antenna and 1 prop but other than that it's almost indestructible. It's also a bit heavier than the air so it manages outdoor flying a bit better with a little bit of wind. I've heard good things about the Meteor75 Pro, so it's a solid choice imo. Better for indoor and outdoor. If mostly indoor, then get a 65mm. Just my 2 cents.

For what it's worth I started with the cetus x and it has been a TANK I've gone way higher than I thought possible and flew indoors on the same battery, all while hitting so many things. After 6 months I heard a little bit of motor noise so I replaced the set and put on the spare props that came with it and sent it. Just got an air65 and it's great too the cetus x was a perfect easy starter

There are at like 5-10 of these post asking the same here since the start of 2025. Anyway, you buy: - **Controller:**  Radio Master Pocket controller + it's 2 batteries (they recharge via usb-c port in controller) - **Drone:** Air65 or Air75. (Air65 if you want to fly mainly indoors, Air75 for both indoor and outdoors and finally Meteor75 Pro if mainly outdoors) - **Goggles:** ev800d. - **Drone batteries:** 3 to 6 "1s BT2.0" batteries. (300mah for 65mm drones, 450mah for 75mm), stick to the brands BetaFPV **Lava** or Tattu) - **Drone batteries charger:** Whoopstor V3.

If analog whoops cater to you, just get that Air65 (if you'd like to fly mostly indoors, however it's great outside too if there's no wind) and the Boxer. You can get a cheap ev800dm second hand as a low cost entry for dipping your toes into the hobby or you can start with a higher end Fatshark or Skyzone straight from the start if you think you'll get hooked. Chances are you'll be :) I think you can think about going digital later once you get a deeper understanding of different fpv drones styles and builds. Also, get extra props, canopies and sooner or later frames. And after a while you'll need to learn soldering.

Air65 also has a 400mW VTX. In my experience the range is about 300-400 meters at full power, after that it gets a bit too noisy for me. Keep in mind the max power varies depending on which band you choose to fly one (Raceband 1 has most power and 8 has the lowest power)
