"Batteries age like milk and if not used frequently or if used very often start losing capacity. ... Also the thing is not getting made anymore so getting new batteries is straight up impossible."
you can't reflash the newer ones? I've bought a few used ones years ago and just flashed the firmware. a mavic pro and a could phantom 4s. well one phantom, I only have the one controller so I've yet to put the second one back together. I have all the parts, just haven't needed it since the first one is still going strong.
r/dji • Which DJI drone would you suggest for beginners? ->DJI minis are about the best you'll get. i don't have a mini but I'm still running my mavic pro platinum and a phantom 4. pretty sure the mini outperforms both of those
r/dji • Which DJI drone would you suggest for beginners? ->I wouldn't bother with a mavic pro personally. Batteries age like milk and if not used frequently or if used very often start losing capacity. Also the thing is not getting made anymore so getting new batteries is straight up impossible. Neo even has a better sensor.
r/drones • Drone Buying Advice Megathread and NEW Wiki Buying Guide ->The Mavic Pro series has variable aperture. Otherwise you can use ND filters to lower the shutter speed if that's your goal.
r/dji • Drones with small apertures ->What? I've owned a Mavic Pro and now a Flip. There is no difference in the build quality.
r/dji • Honest Flip Review ->400 for first mavic pro is rather high, is it with fly more kit? I see a bit newer Air2 fly more for 400 in my area, and mavic pro with hard case but no kit for 250
r/djimavic • First Drone what should i go with ? ->I had the original DJI Mavic Pro since it was released, many many years. Just recently bought Mini 4 Pro from Facebook for a good price new unopened box. Get the one where the remote uses the phone. No need for Fly More Combo. My flight time on a wedding day to get all the aerial photos of the venue is about 10 minutes or less and the Mini 4 battery lasts over 30. Also don’t really need any lens filters for it unless you plan on doing pro cinematic video that requires lower shutter speeds or super slow shutter photography. If you are able to buy new in box, absolutely get DJI Care Refresh to cover your butt for WHEN you crash. Honestly the Mini 3 Pro uses the same image sensor if you can get your hands on it cheap.
r/WeddingPhotography • Those who use drones, which one to start with? ->The air2s is probably better than my OG Mavic Pro! I'm looking forward to this, it'll be a giant upgrade for me.
r/dji • Its out! ->I have a large rural property that I plan to do some improvements/rehab to and would like to document the stages of that work with some photogrammetry. All the "cool" stuff is out of my budget (Matrice range for example) and the cheaper end of town is limited in flight time and camera options. I currently use a Mavic Pro, but I think a basic platform I can program to fly around a set flight path with a modern compact camera set to interval mode (or lidar unit) strapped to its underbelly would suite my needs a lot better. It will be a workhorse, flying above the treeline so I don't need a multitude of sensors. Does such a beast exist?
r/drones • /r/drones Drone Buying Advice Megathread ->Honestly, to the eyes of the public, the Mavic isn't much more impressive than the mini. If you want to look serious, you need an Inspire or an M300. But that's 500% overkill for OP's use cases.
r/dji • Do I need a bigger drone for commercial use? ->I did my share of mapping with a first gen Mavic Pro and Pix4dcapture (free app). Since you really don't need precision, it might be just fine. Just remember to run the camera off nadir (not straight down) to reduce the doming issues.
r/UAVmapping • Budget drone for mapping ->I never changed a prop unless a rough landing/impact on a tree happened (my fleet of OG Mavic Pros were used by... adventurous colleagues). My Mini 3 Pro is at 80h on the factory props and they look mint. I don't have an easy way to check the flight stats of my 2 Matrice 300, but they are in the several 100s, also stock. Same for my Phantom 4 RTK and my Mavic 2 EA.
r/drones • I ve just bought this drone, do you have any tips and tricks for it? ->If you're a pro needing low light images, bingo but it's not a huge thing for most of us. I kept my FPV when got my Avata 1 when got my 2 and my Mav 1 when I got the Pro and both of them when I got the Mavic 4 Pro, I got a Neo and a Mini 4 Pro but I won't be going through the hassle and cost of a Mini 5 Pro. I have enough till...they come up with a true optical zoom lens or I break one of mine but in the current conditions I am flying more carefully than ever...slower through forests...less over water...
r/dji • Now that we've all seen actual footage of the Mini 5 Pro's camera, is it really that big of an improvement? ->In the beginning, I watched some videos on how to fly. I had a parrot drone that you fly with your cell phone. It really didn't help at all, because the controls are completely different. So I jumped in and bought the Mavic pro when they were the latest and greatest. I never once crashed it. They are very easy to fly. I've had the mini 3, and it was also very easy. It was a great little drone, and it really impressed me. Buy a dji within your budget. You won't be disappointed. There's simulators you can try as well to practice. But they are so easy to fly, you shouldn't need much training.
r/dji • Best beginner friendly drone ->What is now 'the top of the line' is going to be entry level in a decade because innovation trickles down. And if you lead the top end, you can dominate in the lower end. That's the entire reason why DJI is pretty much the only 'proper' mass appeal drone company in the world. Look at even the original Mavic pro and compare that to the "budget line" of a Mini 3 pro. 6 years to go from one to the other. And the M3Pro is better in every measurable way except speed and weight. A better camera, better sensors, better distance, an insane amount of features.
r/gadgets • DJI Mavic 4 Pro review: A new standard for consumer drones ->Mini 3 pro. I was more blown away by the original mavic pro.
r/dji • What is the best drone that you have ever owned? ->beautiful humpbacks! We have regulations for flying over marine animals in canada, so I usually film at an extreme distance to be safe, wish I had a good zoom like the Mavic Pro! I have the Mini 4 pro (still awessome)
r/dji • Some of my best drone shots ->You can mount the 03 and 04 camera systems onto a caddx gimbal setup. Otherwise a mavic pro w/zoom camera would do what you want. Your project would be figuring out how to cannabalize a legit DJI battery to build one with extra capacity
r/Multicopter • An idea of pure madness... I need a quad-plane/vtol plane with the camera featureset of a flagship DJI drone (air3s or mavic 3 pro... what if I removed as much flight systems stuff as possible, and built a quadplane around it? ->3 lenses for mavic pro 2 lenses for Air <3 awesome products but so expensive :(
r/gadgets • DJI Mavic 4 Pro review: A new standard for consumer drones ->This. I sold my Mavic Pro and LOVE my Neo. The Avata 2 is for the fun FPV
r/dji • What is the best drone that you have ever owned? ->If you want a drone just for this, DJI air or magic series will be better than built drones, air and mavic are class 1, which means their default altitude limit is 500m above start point But if you do want to build something, DJI O4 system will give you the best quality and one of the best out of the box range, you can have crazy analog setup, but it's gonna need really good antennas if you want to go further than 1km and still see enough details
r/fpv • FPV best options for usage ->I've basically stopped using my Mavic and use my Mini 3 Pro for most things now. Wind resistance isn't quite as good, but image quality is more than good enough and being under 250 g makes flying a lot easier (in Canada, might be different where you are). Some people assume 'bigger is better'. I've seen that in photography, where my Nikon D800 with huge lens gets more respect than a smaller camera. (So sometimes I'll being the bigger camera for show, use it for a few pictures while mostly using a smaller camera, and let people assume that the best pictures were taken with the bigger camera when in reality all the pictures came from the smaller easier-to-carry camera.)
r/dji • Do I need a bigger drone for commercial use? ->If you want something good and not care about price get the mavic but if you do care about price then get the dji mini 3 or 4 pro remember to ALWAYS do the training flight simulater when you buy a new drone you will need to
r/dji • Best drone to inspect roofs ->Mavics are so good!
r/drones • Perfect landing! Did some test flights using RTK with the new drone. Getting ready for the season ->A Mavic isn’t really going all-out. If you had the choice of hiring someone who could only bring a Mini or someone who had a Mavic, who would seem more serious to you? Who would you hire?
r/dji • Do I need a bigger drone for commercial use? ->It depends entirely on your requirements. While there are some advantages to the better camera on the maverick, unless your client is going to run the video on large screens there may be no practical difference. Your skill as a videographer and editor will make much more of a difference than the camera. As others have pointed out, the Air is a great compromise, but depending on where you need to fly, the Mini 4 Pro may have advantages. One of the challenges in an urban environment is operating over people. Unless you have a category UAV or a waiver, you can’t legally fly over uninvolved people. In an urban setting that can be a challenge. A category 1 drone needs to be under 250g with prop guards and remote ID. The only current option to get there in the DJI lineup is a Neo with an external RID module, but the photo/video quality isn’t as good as the air or mini, and that’s a bit of a limitation for pro photographers. (On a related note, if someone from DJI is reading this, please poke your product management with a sharp stick and wake them up. The new DJI Flip is one firmware change away from being an awesome option that 107 pilots like me — who already own a M4P and Neo — would buy in a heartbeat. Please add the option to turn on Remote ID in the USA so we can fly it as a Category 1 UAV.) Category 2 essentially requires a parachute which right now is stupid expensive. Your other option is to apply for a waiver. I won’t go into all the details in case OOP isn’t important to you. But if it is, an M4P with extended battery, prop guards, and an anti-collision light is still light enough to operate over people and moving vehicles under a 107 waiver without requiring a parachute. Flight times and wind handling will decrease, but in an urban area that might make the difference between being able to legally get your shots or not. Just buy the extended batteries because they turn RID on. On the other hand, if OOP isn’t an issue, then in the USA under 107 an Air is probably a better choice. And, if you have any interest in popping north of the border, do yourself a favour and take an M4P with standard batteries. Being under 250g in Canada will make your life much, much easier. Remember that the best camera in the world isn’t going to help if you can’t get it where you need it.
