If you want collision-avoidance sensors the Mini4 Pro or Mini3 Pro are best in the sub-250g realm. Otherwise the Mini4k is a great value. Before 2025 tariffs went into effect, they could be found at around $250. I paid $430 for my Mini2 4 years ago. Essentially the same drone. I love my Mini2 (not the SE). I have taken it to Europe and UK 3 times now.
r/dji • Best drone for me? ->As I understand it, the DJI Mini4K is exactly the same as the DJI Mini2 (not the SE version). And the classic Mini2 was discontinued a year ago or so. I own a classic DJI Mini2 (not SE) and I love it. I bought it brand new 3.5 years ago on sale for $430. Now today you can get the same drone (with the Mini4K) for $130 less than I paid for my classic Mini2. Super good price point 👍 I have flown my classic Mini2 up to about 1,500 feet altitude and up to about 2 miles away from me. Of course FAA only allows recreational flyers to fly up to 400 feet in altitude and never farther away than you can see with your eyes (aka “VLOS”). I just mentioned the extreme end of it so you would know exactly what the new Mini4K is capable of. Be careful to not confuse this model with the Mini4 Pro. That is a much more expensive drone with some awesome more-advanced features. I have seen the Mini4 Pro on-sale at Costco for about $750, maybe 3 months ago. If you’re on a tight budget, I think the Mini4K is a good buy, and I’m sure your Dad will enjoy it. Unless you pay extra for the standalone controller (I forget it’s actual product name), then your Dad will have to connect his Android or iPhone smartphone to the controller that comes with the Mini4K. You get used to it really quickly. The standard controller that came with my classic Mini2 is called “RCN-1”. I think the one that ships with the Mini4K is very similar. Lastly, I don’t think the Mini4K contains the “follow me” feature. If you need that feature then you need to buy the Mini4 Pro.
r/drones • Drone for dad for Christmas ->If you’re OK with learning to fly a quality drone together with your child, then you should consider buying one for the both of you. With that quality drone, you will always supervise the flights, and you will just snap your smartphone into the controller. The DJI “Mini” family of drones have several models in varying price points. I think the cheapest is still the DJI Mini 4K. I think it sells for about $239. This drone will be WAY easier for your child to learn to fly, because it syncs with up to 24 GPS satellites, and allows you to just push a button and it will fly back to you and land automatically. This is a hugely helpful feature for a new beginner! “Return To Home” (RTH). And takeoffs are super easy too. After it shows that you have good satellite coverage, you just push the takeoff button and the drone takes off to about 4-feet above ground and just hovers there until you start pushing the sticks. It will literally sit there until the battery runs down if you do nothing. And these drones all take awesome video and still photos. A fun thing to do after you go flying together, is to view your photos and video on a computer or big screen tv. They’re all stored on a microSD card. If the two of you spend a year together with one of these DJI Minis, your child could get quite skilled at flying. And it’s a great parent-child shared activity. And you could also buy a cheap sub-$50 drone for you child to play with on their own. And if the toy drone gets broken, it’s not a hardship. Your child will still look forward to your shared flights with the DJI Mini. Good Luck 😀🚁
r/drones • No-phone drone for a kid ->DJI Mini4k for sure. Before the 2025 tariffs went into effect, you could find them on-sale for around $250. Excellent beginner DJI drone 😀
r/dji • What is the best beginner drone? ->Yep it's brilliant, it was my first drone. The lack of obstacle avoidance might be a good thing, as it will train you to have spatial awareness and not rely on OA while you are learning.
r/dji • First Drone Recommendations: DJI Mini 4K? ->>Hard pass on the Mini 4K unless it was dirt cheap. It is dirt cheap, it's £209 on Amazon right now. It's a good beginner drone for that price. Even though everything about it is inferior to its bigger brothers, it's still capable of producing good results if you have a creative mind. But if it gets somebody into the hobby, then they have plenty of good upgrade options in the future, with the M4P being a great choice if someone wants to stay in the sub 250 category.
r/dji • Best affordable DJI drone for beginners? ->Dji mini 4k I think are $300(save abit more and add on their 2 year insurance) and a set of nd filters from amazon......that's all you need for a good start really.....next save for the fly more package too
r/drones • Best drone for 300-400 dollars ->I’m a absolute beginner and just got myself a DJI mini 4k fly more combo and omg it’s so good I want to cry 😭 it was a little over 400$
r/drones • What is a good beginner drone? Also, what got you into this passion? ->Get a DJI like the Mini4K it's much better or even a Mini2Se is good
r/drones • Has anyone used the Bwine F7 GPS Drones ->Generally the DJI Mini 4K is a great drone, but honestly I think someone that age would prefer to fly an FPV drone in comparison to a camera drone. FPV drones are the ones that go really fast and people do tricks and flips with them, while camera drones are usually more delicate and are being used to film and make photos. I don’t know your son so I don’t know what he wants to do with it cause maybe he really wants to make content with it. One more thing, a good beginner drone like the DJI Avata or DJI Avata 2 ar a bit more expensive. If he’d want an FPV drone I would honestly get the Avata explorer bundle but it’s 679 euro, so it’s quite a bit more expensive. But again, the DJI Mini 4K is a great drone.
r/dji • Best affordable DJI drone for beginners? ->Mini 4K is in my opinion the best budget beginner drone, if you have more money get the mini 3 Fly more combo, in my opinion the RC isn’t worth $300, if you have way more money then the mini 4 pro Fly more is the best drone.
r/dji • Which drone beginner ->The DJI Mini 4K was actually released in 2024. It’s arguably the best value drone DJI makes if you care about camera quality. If you care about features at a low cost and a sacrifice to camera quality, the DJI Neo is also an incredible value. The Mini 4K shoots in very nice quality full 4K footage at 30 FPS, but does not record HDR video like the Mini 3 or better. It also does not have obstacle avoidance sensors like the Pro mini drones. Those are its biggest drawbacks, which really aren’t bad at all considering the insanely cheap price for getting a full-fledged 4K drone.
r/dji • Best affordable DJI drone for beginners? ->Just close your eyes and get mini 4k
r/dji • Best affordable DJI drone for beginners? ->Mini 4k = no crash senors, no ai tracking, excellent image quailty, Mini 4k pro = crash senors, ai tracking, excellent image quailty with added dslr style changes/corrections can be applied, Mini 4k is a great starter drone, to get a feel for flying and get over the nerves, However the pro model, is so much more for not alot more money.
r/dji • Best drone for me? ->I'm not in Canada, I got my mini 4k combo for £399 I think new and the mini 4 pro combo new + 256gb sd card for £829. I appreciate howevver I may have gotten a good deal, The dji mini 4k combo is currently $579 on amazon.ca (it's a good price) but if you want more features and tracking etc, then the mini 4 pro is just on a different level. Another option would be dji mini 4 and the neo, but depending on price at that stage I'd still recommend the dji mini 4 pro. Maybe hold off on buying anything until the summer, their are rumours that a mini 5 pro is being released which in turn should reduce the price of the 4
r/dji • Best drone for me? ->The Mini 2 has 4K video. I know because I own two of them. They are easily unlocked at Drone Hacks. The Mini 4K is everything the Mini 2 MINUS the front LED, less battery time in the remote, and no ability to unlock. For drone released in 2024 it also has no Remote ID. Hard pass on the Mini 4K unless it was dirt cheap. Use mini 2 goes for anywhere from 200 to 250 used. You can get like new batteries on eBay for 23 bucks. If you can afford it I would get a used Mini 3 pro. They're going for pretty cheap used. I've seen them as low as $400 The larger sensor allows you to capture images in lower light conditions. But also has a vertical mode.
r/dji • Best affordable DJI drone for beginners? ->Personally I don't really see a huge difference between Mini 3 and Mini 4K except for body. The mini 3 offers better camera in low light and some extra utility in terms of transferring files to your phone directly. And the camera can go vertical. It's why I am going for the mini 4K as well, because I couldn't see the 100$ difference worth as a beginner pilot.
r/dji • First Drone Recommendations: DJI Mini 4K? ->DJI mini 4K all the way. I just got mine a couple weeks ago and look what I was able to do! Not bad for a newbie! [https://youtu.be/XDeohZ6cuLg?si=LuhHMbm9thSzw6wB](https://youtu.be/XDeohZ6cuLg?si=LuhHMbm9thSzw6wB)

r/dji • Best model for beginners to take good travel photos and post them on social media? ->I ordered the DJI Mini 4K, they shipped it, and US Customs returned it to the shipper. I phoned DJI and was given no reason, but they shipped it again, and it arrived yesterday, which is why I'm only now replying. Compared to the HolyStone, the DJI is much more stable in flight. However, out of doors the phone screen even on max brightness is so washed out it's hard to see. Can the DJI Mini 4K be flown without the phone? (I had the same problem with the phone using the HolyStone, and it turned out that could be flown without the phone. Obviously I don't have access to the camera that way, but I'm only using it to chase the birds off my roof.) Thanks.
r/drones • Drone Buying Advice Megathread and NEW Wiki Buying Guide ->Today I tried out the Return-to-Home function. It worked perfectly. It was very slow, and landed facing the wrong way, but that's all fine. Now I just wish that I could hang a grappling hook from it to remove the birds' nest from the roof. But I suspect that a drone with that capability would cost more than I want to spend.
r/drones • Drone Buying Advice Megathread and NEW Wiki Buying Guide ->YES!!! It worked. Thanks! I guess I should have tried it before bothering to ask. 😄 (I've ordered a sun shield now, too. Thanks for that suggestion.) I officially like the DJI Mini 4K now that I don't need the phone to fly it. 😄 😄
r/drones • Drone Buying Advice Megathread and NEW Wiki Buying Guide ->Huh! Amazon sells grappling hooks for small drones. No idea how well they work...
r/drones • Drone Buying Advice Megathread and NEW Wiki Buying Guide ->You are smart to stay away from all of the drones that have sponsored reviews. Buying a drone is fairly easy: 1. Disregard anyone who tells you to buy a cheap drone first "to learn on". That's a complete waste of money. 2. In the U.S., buy DJI or Autel. I have specimens of both and find that Autel is just a little behind the curve, but not by much. DJI typically has much, much better after sales support than Autel. 3. Spend as much as you are comfortable spending. Don't hold back. 4. You can get a brand-new DJI Mini 4K for about $300... but that won't have extra batteries or a remote control with a screen (you'll have to use a smart phone or a tablet as your screen). Even though the battery claim may be 40 minute flight per battery charge, you're really only going to get 20 to 30 minutes. Get at least 3 batteries with your purchase. Adding an RC with a screen to the this package will get you close to $1K, new. 5. DJI MIni (or Autel Nano, or any drone under 250 grams) will allow you to travel to more international destinations and fly legally. That small weight also helps limit fatigue or space for carrying. 6. If you do not plan to travel outside the US, no need to limit your drone to the less than 250 gram category. VERY generally speaking, the heavier, the less affected by winds. That is, a Mavic 3 Pro at nearly 900 grams will handle higher winds and will handle better in winds than a 249 gram mini. 7. Right now the best drone over 250 grams is probably the DJI Air3s. Others will have differing opinions with this and all of the above. 8. These are not exhaustive guidelines but will provide you a start. We haven't even begun to talk about the need for Remote ID capability, for example. 9. So many options, so little time. Enjoy!

r/drones • Drone recommendations ->I'm in a similar situation. I started out with those cheap $50 drones to try the hobby, then I went to the DJI Mini4k (for the stability, with resistance, flight time and camera). Then my son got my old $50 one and he loves just flying around, eventually I'm gonna have to get him his own either he'll get mine or I'll get him a DJI Neo, I put everything in my cart (Neo Combo for batteries, FPV Goggles and motion controller) and it was around $500-600. Take a lot at this Neo and review and see how cool it can be. https://youtu.be/7OornhLskoA?si=GQ1hoKwEOezOaXMu
r/drones • Entry level drone that is super fun to fly? ->In my case, I wasn’t sure what I was actually looking for, so I figured I’d start cheap and learn in a little bit. I bought a Neo and control, has been fun, then a mini 4K, which is very fun in a different way. I suspected I’d want to go up to a fancier model from there, but the 4K actually does what I need. That said, I’m sure I’ll get something more expensive at some point, but I’m not yet sure what additional features will improve my life.
r/dji • Best Drone to Start? ->I have a Neo, a mini 4K, and a mini 4 pro. Would definitely recommend the mini 4K on your budget, unless your primary use is for taking videos of yourself and friends. A mini 4K with controller is the same price as a neo with controller, and the mini 4K flies much better, just doesn’t have some of the cool smart modes.
r/dji • Drone for under $300 - $250 ->I am thoroughly enjoying my mini 4 pro, but I am really glad I had a mini 4K first to see how much I enjoyed the hobby. 4K is probably 80% of 4 pro for a lot less money. Camera is not quite as good, doesn’t have obstacle avoidance, but flies great. I also have a neo, which is a whole other thing. The Neo is pretty inferior when it comes to flying using sticks, it’s good for using its AI to take photos of groups, people walking, that kind of thing.
r/dji • What is the best beginner drone? ->If you’re not wanting to do any FPV flying then the NEO isn’t the better option. If you want a drone that will give you good picture and video like the MINI 3 pro the closer to that is the DJI mini 4k. It has a 4k camera and just lacks the obstacle avoidance. It isn’t going to be as good as the Mini 4 pro but that’s a different budget range. I have the mini 2 we was my first and I loved it so much I bought the MP4 about 6 months later. I then wanted to have a tel zoom so went up to the upper side of my budget with the Air 3 S. I didn’t need it to honestly the MP4 does what I want. There’s advantages to the Air 3 s but a person could get but with just the MP4. I would snag the best DJI I could get. That’s on shelf somewhere or as mentioned adorns if bigger purchase. I think you’d be happy with the mini 4k. I was happy with mini 2 we which is only 2.7k max res but wanted some obstacle avoidance even though I rarely use it.
r/dji • Drone for under $300 - $250 ->Mini 4k it's ad much a toy that's stable as for photography. The 300 cameras are good but usually like something with a better camera. I started fortune with the Mini 2 se. I found I like some of the pictures I got, which steered me into light cut and quick edits. I then bought a Mini 4 pro just for the extra Obstacle avoidance and increased camera. Learning how to fly even thoughbit sounds counter intuitive. Learning on the Mini 4k with stable readable connection with growing room built in if he's super young. I passed off my mini 4 to a 5 year old at my family get together and he got it instantly even some of the angles he understood for g lining up good shots in camera he got those basics and was part of why he wanted one. That's my advice if you buy anything else maybe a Specta or Potensic atom but I can't guarantee you'll get the same level of service with DJI. If your even considering DJI I'm future year I'd move now because once the Tariffs are in place that drone will be 500.
r/drones • Entry level drone that is super fun to fly? ->I'd even look at the mini 3 pro. I have seen them on Ebay real cheap, and that model does have forward and rear obstacle avoidance. Under 300 Mini 4k won't let you down view the Potensic Atom. Potensic doesn't GEO lock and has a few more follow modes if that's something you want.
r/drones • Entry level drone that is super fun to fly? ->It's essentially the same drone with 4k video, instead of 2.7k. I'm having trouble myself figuring out exactly what makes it different than a normal Mini 2 other than a re-branding and slightly less expensive Care Refresh insurance plan cost, but it's designed to be a beginner drone with some key features like return-to-home, quickshots, photo panoramas, etc. with no obstacle avoidance, so it's entirely up to the pilot to be aware of their surroundings. The Ascend drone is barely capable of doing just one of those things (with a much worse camera sensor), while either DJI will manage them just fine.
r/drones • Ascend ASC 2680 vs dji ->You've got the gist of it, both the older Mini 2 and this "new" Mini 4k are basically the same. And the SE is like a budget version of the Mini 2. "Avoidance detection" is on both the Mini 2 and SE (and on the Mini 4k as well) but only in the downward direction to avoid crashes when landing; neither of them can actively stop you from crashing in-flight. The Mini 2 has Occusync 2.0 for much better transmission range and reduced interference compared to the SE, which is enhanced wi-fi. The Mini 2 also has Level 5 wind resistance versus Level 3 for the SE, as well as being able to capture photos in RAW format, while the SE cannot. That's pretty much everything I could find out so far.
r/drones • Ascend ASC 2680 vs dji ->Get a mini 3 or mini 4k fly more combo
r/drones • Drone Buying Advice Megathread and NEW Wiki Buying Guide ->If all you need is a drone to check on your roof or gutter, the cheapest DJI Neo would be able to do it. You can use it with the RC2 remote which has an integrated screen (separate purchase). Your next choice would be a DJI mini 3 or 4K. You can save money by buying them used off FB marketplace or eBay.
r/drones • Drone Buying Advice Megathread and NEW Wiki Buying Guide ->Drone cameras have gotten really good and high quality that you really DO NOT need to put your GoPro on the drone...It will be bad because: 1. Increase weight = much less flying time 2. Will fly worse in windy conditions I'd recommend you get either the DJI flip or mini 4K drone as a beginner.
r/drones • Drone Buying Advice Megathread and NEW Wiki Buying Guide ->Get DJI mini 4K. May save money getting a used one too.
r/drones • Drone Buying Advice Megathread and NEW Wiki Buying Guide ->DJI Mini 4K is certainly the best budget drone in the market. A few days ago I got the FIMI Mini 3 "Combo" (crappy combo I should say) for ~230€ on Aliexpress and it is certainly a better deal, but 4K (which is just a Mini 2 with an RC controller downgraded battery and lacking the public SDK) is the best at regular price. If your kid doesn't care about the camera quality, Neo is more fun to fly, especially if you get the Motion Combo (or just get the Motion/GN3 used in the future).
r/dji • Best affordable DJI drone for beginners? ->Drone have to weigh under 249grzms with the battery installed. So I just ordered a DJI mini 4k today for myself. I got the drone 1 battery and carry case, the I ordered the 2 battery and charge hub afterwards . So now I have the DJI mini 4k fly mire combo that sell for $449, for $302. Free shipping and I'll have it on Sunday. The HS720 is not a bad drone. But with any drone, make sure their are no faa certifications needed. That a whole new ball game there. Hope this helps. I'm fairly new to drones myself so with that being said, I'm still learning also. Good luck to you and your son. They are alot of fun.
r/drones • Starter Drone (kid+adult) ->I have spent lots of time researching, and here is my take: Potensic Atom - good, budget friendly ($350 for FMC). Comparable specs to DJI Mini 4K and has added benefit of Follow Me and Waypoints. DJI mini 4K - DJI is more well known branded - $450 (FMC). Good specs, not as many features as Atom, but it is DJI I went with the Atom, just based on price, and I don't need to have a DJI. That being said, first flight out it was daylight, and I couldn't see my phone screen worth a damn. So, boxed it back up and sent it back. Got DJI Mini 3 FMC with the DJI RC (with screen). More than my budget, but I don't like the mobile device as the screen, so I spent extra. Regarding your other question: lots of info in this subreddit on what has to be registered and what doesn't. You need to do some research on recreational and TRUST certification (most likely your situation), if in the US. Other countries have different rules, so no one simple answer.
r/drones • Starter Drone (kid+adult) ->I agree with the first part, but the avata isn’t the drone I would recommend for a beginner. Especially not in the EU as you will need a UAV license and not just an operator registration (assuming op gets a Mini 4K for example).
r/drones • Best drone under $100 ->The camera on the 4k is really good though what makes it great is the rock solid stability and gimbal. It is stupendously easy to fly….I am shocked just how great this is for £269.00. The range also is incredible. The standout difference between the two I think comes down to HDR on the 3. Not enough to have me jump up to the 3 for my first drone but definitely something to consider when I upgrade which I definitely will down the line.
r/dji • Dji mini 3 or Dji mini 4k ->Picked up a mini 4k for some YouTube golf videos. I’ve flown everything from the phantoms to inspires. That drone is fun, and an incredible value
r/dji • Best affordable DJI drone for beginners? ->Skip all the junk on Ali. It'll crash it almost immediately. At this price point, basically your only option is DJI, such as a Mini 2 SE or Mini 4k. They are actually excellent drones that are very stable and capable.
r/drones • Recommendation for cheap drones as a newbie ->The Mini 4k sounds like exactly what you are looking for. While the Neo might be an excellent choice, the Mini 4k is more of a photography drone with better camera, longer flight time, and more stability. It can be had for 299 (or 439 in a fly more combo). It isn't quite as the Mini 4 Pro, as it has lesser camera, older design and transmission system, and no obstacle avoidance, but it should serve you very well.
r/dji • What is the ideal drone for first time user? ->Better off with a DJI Mini 4k. Basically same price when you include the remote and takes way better pictures.
r/drones • Looking to buy a drone as a birthday gift, please help me! ->You don't mention budget, but honestly my usual answer for anyone looking for a good start is the DJI Mini 4k, which is normally $300, but is on sale for Black Friday. I do recommend getting a Fly More combo with extra batteries, but that will add around $150 to the price. A lot of people will recommend the DJI Neo, but I don't for your purpose. The Neo is more for selfies and vlogging, while the Mini is better for flying and photography (and has better camera). The Neo doesn't come with a remote and if wanted, needs to be purchased separately (you can use phone/tablet but it isn't as good). The Mini 4k is the same drone as the Mini 2 SE, just with a better (4k) camera. I recommend paying the few extra bucks for the better camera. If you want more, feel free to step up to the Mini 3/4 Pro or Air 3 / 3S. The Mini and the Mini Pro are very different drones. The Pro models have better cameras and obstacle avoidance, but the price jumps (Costco has a good deal right now on the Mini 4 Pro for $750). The Air 3 is like the Mini Pro 4 except adds a 3x telephoto camera and has way more power (it is also way bigger, harder to travel with, and must be registered as it is over 249g weight). The 3S is a newer model that just came out, has an improved camera and lidar for better night flying (which requires a Part 107 license) and obstacle avoidance. Do note, that any use that isn't recreational flying requires a Part 107 license. Additionally, many states have rules against using a drone for hunting (not sure about TX specifically), even with a license. The range on the DJI Mini 4k should be plenty. It is illegal to operate the drone beyond line of sight anyways (without a waiver), so range beyond that won't do you much. That said, the Mini 4 Pro and Air 3 / 3S have longer range transmission than the Mini 4k / Mini 2 SE. Hope that helps!
r/drones • Drone for dad for Christmas ->So really any DJI will work. You can start cheep with a Mini 4k for around $300, though I'd recommend the Fly More Combo (extra batteries and propellers) which goes up to $450. The Mini 4 Pro is a step up and adds obstacle avoidance, which is helpful but not a must have, and an improved camera, but the price goes to $760 to start and $1,099 for the fly more (which also includes the touchscreen controller). Mini 3 and Mini 3 Pro are also options, with the Mini 3 being a little better than the Mini 4k and the Mini 3 Pro being not quite as good as the Mini 4 Pro (the Mini 3 Pro only has front, rear, and below obstacle avoidance while Mini 4 Pro is all around). The Mini series has one big problem when it comes to Part 107 operations. When flying recreationally (not Part 107), drones taking off under 250g (which all DJI Mini drones are without accessories) do not require Remote ID. However, when Part 107, Remote ID is required regardless of weight. The Minis can support Remote ID, but due to the way DJI programmed it, it only turns on Remote ID when using an extended battery (sold separately). They do that because then it is 250g and above so requires Remote ID. So when using it for Part 107, you need to either use the extended battery or attach a Remote ID module (which is around $40). An alternative would be the DJI Air 3 (and soon to be released Air 3S). The Air is a bigger drone (about 2x-3x the size of the Mini series), so it is a little harder to carry (can't throw it in a bag as easily). However, it is more powerful and adds a 3x telephoto camera along with the standard camera (and like the Mini 4 Pro, has full obstacle avoidance). Because of its weight, it always has Remote ID enabled. It is a little higher in price than your budget though, coming in at $1,099 or a fly more combo (without the touchscreen controller) for $1,349. With the Air 3S on the horizon, I would recommend not buying one of these unless they are sale (we have been seeing sales lately as they try to get rid of inventory) or otherwise wait until the 3S comes out.
r/drones • What’s a good beginner drone that has a decent camera and could be 107 compliant? ->I'm going to go against the grain here - I had the same dilemma and went for the mini 3. The oversharpening of the image on the video of the mini 3 is grotesque. It's borderline unusable with all the aliasing on buildings! Looks like the mini 4k has much less of that. So I'm considering returning it for the mini 4k now.
r/dji • Dji mini 3 or Dji mini 4k ->Depends on your priority - if it's video image quality, genuinely mini 4k looks better to my eyes. Mini 3 is pversharpened and looks cheap.
r/dji • Dji mini 3 or Dji mini 4k ->I would go on you tube and follow the dji reviews on the various drones in the mini class. Mini 4k might be perfect for what your looking for. Good little drone and very dependable for the price point. Let us know what you pick.
r/dji • Looking for the best starter drone for my 10 year old ->Neo is awesome. I bought a Mini 4k too. 😂
r/dji • What is the best beginner drone? ->Not really. Depends on how cheap you are talking about. A lot of (very) cheap drones will start drifting away while in the air and then crash. Slightly expensive ones will actually stay in place (or have just little movement). It’s easier to fly since it won’t move unless you want it to. The cheap ones will drift and make you probably panic, and then you won’t know what to do. The good ones will stay still, let you stay calm, and let you fly it properly. I learnt this from experience. You don’t have to spend 500 straight away though. Dji mini 4k is about £250, not sure how much in $. Even cheaper than that, you could get something like a holy stone hs360s. Camera isn’t as good as dji (but not terrible), but it flies great. Also random tip: if you’re new to flying and scared of hitting something like a tree, go higher. Higher means less obstacles.
r/drones • is it better to start off with cheap drones? ->I started with the mini 4k and now move up to the mini pro 4 with the lenses for ligth pollution.
r/dji • What is the best beginner drone? ->For a better understanding, think of DJI as a Bugatti and the brand you posted as a Lada. This is your answer. Better get the DJI mini / mini 4k if you want a good beginner drone.
r/drones • Has anyone used the Bwine F7 GPS Drones ->For a better understanding, think of DJI as a Bugatti and the brand you posted as a Lada. This is your answer. Better get the DJI mini / mini 4k if you want a good beginner drone.
r/drones • Has anyone used the Bwine F7 GPS Drones ->Has been said: My first Drone is the DJI Mini 4k with More Fly Package, don't regret a thing. Price and Value is top. Next drone should support remotes with build in screen, so that the fidling with my mobile is gone.
r/dji • What is the ideal drone for first time user? ->DJI Mini 4k is really fine as a beginner drone. But I am not sure to to give a drone with range to a 10years old, but I'd imagine he's not gonna fly it alone? The DJI Neo is a bit cheaper, has built-in Propeller guards and might be more fitting here. The Mini 4.k is more for cineastic.pictures and videos while the neo is up to a bit more Action-Stufe and indoors.
r/dji • Looking for the best starter drone for my 10 year old ->I'd start out with a drone that weighs less than 250 grams because all you'll need to do is take the FAA TRUST test to fly it for recreation. (It's free and fast) I'd start off with a DJI Mini SE, Mini 4K or Mini 3. Either one of those won't break the bank, will fly like a dream compared to the toys you've flown, and take decent pictures and video. The "fly more" combos are nice and don't forget the DJI Care plan! https://trust.pilotinstitute.com/
r/dji • A “newbie”, to the drone world, with a few questions and looking for some solid advise. ->I have the mini 4k and camera is not that bad if you want flow buy neo fly more combo its prety solid for price but it has short flight time if you have more budget buy mini 3 pro
r/dji • Best drone for me? ->No, the only controllers that the Mini 4k supports are the rc-n1 and the rc-n1c. However, if you are willing to spend an extra couple 100 of bucks, you could get the mini 3, not to be confused with the mini 3 pro, as it supports the RC, the one that has a built in screen. As a beginner, make sure to get DJI Care or care refresh. You WILL crash and the care plan will most likely save you a fair amount of money.
r/dji • What is the ideal drone for first time user? ->With obstacles avoidance? Mini 4 pro, if you can't afford it Mini 3 pro. Without obstacle avoidance(and half the price)? Mini 4K or used Mini 2 if you want to go cheaper.
r/drones • Best drone for a beginner ->It's the reason why DJI released the Mini 4K. The main difference is the service DJI provides(better SW, warranty and DJI care) compared to anyone else in the industry at that price.
r/drones • Opinion of the Potensic Atom ->I just got mine a couple weeks ago. $299 from DJI directly, as I wanted the insurance add-on from them. Then it went on sale for $239, and DJI was kind enough to refund me $60. I do suspect it will go down to $199. I've seen that price on Amazon. Maybe for Black Friday itself. Nevertheless, I find it to be a very stable drone. Easy to fly. Great picture quality. Good fly time as well.
r/dji • First Drone Recommendations: DJI Mini 4K? ->It arrived from DJI 3-4 days after I ordered it.
r/dji • First Drone Recommendations: DJI Mini 4K? ->From what I understand, it’s literally just the mini 2SE (which is supposed to be different from the regular mini 2) except with a 4K camera. I just bought the 4K and never owned a 2 se so I’m not completely sure. Either way the mini 4K is a great little drone for the price and takes spectacular quality shots.
r/drones • Has anyone used the Bwine F7 GPS Drones ->You can get a DJI Mini 4K from DJI on Amazon for $299. The drone can practically fly itself. If you panic, let go of the sticks and the drone will hover in place. The RTH (return to home) feature will automatically fly back and land the drone at the take off point. If you see a tree or building, well…fly around or above it…come on now. With an ounce of common sense, flying these DJI drones is very simple. I don’t say that to be rude, it really is that simple. I have taught a 10 year old to fly in 5 minutes. I had a post with tips for beginners a few years ago. If you buy a DJI drone and need some help before your first flight just send me a DM and I will link you back to the post.
r/drones • Best drone for 300-400 dollars ->Mini 4k is underrated I had to return a mini 3 cuz it just wouldn't compare with the mini 4k. Image wise the mini 3 was a better. I put both in the air in high winds the mini 4k did an amazing job compared to the mini 3.
r/dji • Mini 4k powerful little drone. ->It's better just more sensible to wind thats all. I had both up in the air the mini 4k passed the high winds without so much warnings. The mini 3 had a hard ride. Just hard on the gimbal, was not responding to high winds when the mini 4k was responsive. The mini 3 is definitely a better drone but not worth the upgrade from a mini 4k. Either go mini 4 pro or 3 pro.
r/dji • Mini 4k powerful little drone. ->Nice man! Happy flying. 3 pro way better than the mini 4k. I'm sure you'll have a blast flying it.
r/dji • Mini 4k powerful little drone. ->I recently picked up the DJI Mini 4k as my first drone and it’s great for the money and an awesome starting point to get your feet wet.
r/dji • Best affordable DJI drone for beginners? ->It integrates with the DJI Fly app, which is the same the newest drones like the air 3s or the flip use. The app gets updated for new IOS/Android versions, but don't expect any new features for the drone itself. Mini 3 or mini 4k are the best budget entry level camera drones, so not a bad pick. Buying second hand make sure it actually works, if there is a video of it flying with no errors then it's usually fine, people sell drones second hand all the time, but since crashing is a thing, you might get scammed.
r/drones • Drone Buying Advice Megathread and NEW Wiki Buying Guide ->DJI Mini 4K 1000% perfect beginner drone
r/drones • Looking to buy a drone as a birthday gift, please help me! ->Mini 4k in my opinion. Any DJI drone is a great place to start, but I wouldn't invest too much money into one. If your intention is to get into FPV then you can spend the money on an Avata, even though it will pale in comparison to a purpose built FPV-quad. I realize this is the DJI sub and I will probably get downvoted into oblivion for saying this, but unless you are doing professional work, I wouldn't purchase any of their drones aside from the mini 4k. Most of the 'features' in these platforms are fluff to get people to open their wallets. The truth about all camera drones is that they are not exciting after the first few times you fly them, and basically become a tool, rather than a toy. I am still glad I have a Mini 2, but mostly for the utility it offers and not for recreational enjoyment.
r/dji • What is the best beginner drone? ->The DJI mini 4K is considered to be the best starting drone on the market
r/dji • Good beginner drone? ->It depends on the kind of drone he flew. Was it a camera drone, like a DJI? Or was it an FPV drone, with the goggles? They're two completely different experiences. If it was a DJI, they all basically function the same, but a mini4 is probably the best pick for most beginners. If it's FPV, a tiny whoop like a mobula6, meteor65, or a "ready to fly" (RTF) kit like the EMAX tinyhawk bundle. r/FPV r/tinywhoop r/dji
r/drones • Looking to buy a drone as a birthday gift, please help me! ->The mini 4k is actually quite recent, with it being a revised version of the mini 2. You’d also get a mini two SE which is a slightly dumped down version of the mini two with the worst camera you’re definitely going to want a fly or combo with the extra batteries because it will allow you to have over an hour in the air which is plenty of time to get cool photos and videos. The only issue with DJI mini line up (save for the mini 3 pro and mini 4 pro) is they they don’t have obstacle avoidance, meaning that they are a lot easier to crash (I, alas, also crashed my mini 2) I would go with a mini 3, as it’s camera is miles better than the mini 2/2se/4k. It also produces a lower tone when flying, which makes it less like an annoying buzzing fly and attracts less attention. It’s motors are also, instead of pointing straight up, are angles a bit, which makes for a muck more manoeuvrable drone, especially when the drone is rotating around the t axis. Not saying that the mini 2/2se/4k is bad. They are still extremely capable drones. It’s just that the mini 3 is better for the extra price. If spending more isn’t an option then the mini 4k is a great drone. However, if I had to choose between a mini 2/2se/4k fly more combo and a mini 3 with only one battery I would chose the mini 3, as you can always get more batteries :) Hope this helps and merry Christmas!
r/dji • Best affordable DJI drone for beginners? ->The Neo drone is primarily designed for capturing videos rather than photographs, which may not align with your preferences. The Mini 3 and Mini 3 Pro drones are excellent options that can undoubtedly meet your requirements. While they are more expensive, they are worthwhile investments if you intend to capture more intricate shots. If your budget permits, these drones are worth considering. The Mini 4K and Mini 2 SE drones are ideal for beginners and offer all the necessary features. I personally started with the Mini 2 SE and still use it frequently, even after upgrading to the Mini 4 Pro. Based on your description, either of these drones should suffice. The battery life, in good flying conditions, should last 15- 20+ minutes, but purchasing additional batteries is recommended for extended flight times. In my opinion, the Mini 4K or Mini 2 SE drones are the best options for you. They are stable, capture excellent images suitable for social media, and are enjoyable to fly. I hope this information is helpful.
r/dji • Best model for beginners to take good travel photos and post them on social media? ->The best starter drones are the DJI Neo or the DJI Mini 4K. Which one you should get is probably best determined by your intended use. Do you want to take photographs, video, go high/far and get great footage of the landscape, buildings etc? Get the Mini 4K. Do you want to take selfies, follow yourself while hiking or biking, and keep the drone in your pocket without a case or controller? Get the Neo. Other things to note is that the Neo sounds shrill like a dentist's drill, and the Mini 4K is more of a buzzing sound. So don't envision a peaceful hike with either nearby, especially the Neo. The Neo is much more resilient to bumps, bangs, and full on crashes, since the props are enclosed from all sides. If you plan on using it within forest trails and things like that, you might want to choose the Neo, or you'll be paranoid about crashing while you're still new to flying a drone. Whatever you do, get the Care Refresh insurance. It's super cheap (like $30) and gives you peace of mind when you're new to the hobby and afraid of crashing.
r/drones • Looking to buy my first drone? How are these? ->4k is a good start. It has a good camera and until you comfortable with it just stay high over trees and such. It is not FPV drone but still a good value to start with.
r/dji • First Drone Recommendations: DJI Mini 4K? ->I got a Mini 4k first but after about a month I upgraded to the 4 Pro. I like the waypoint and Hyperlapse feature the 4k does not have but the 4k is still a great drone.
r/dji • what dji drone to get? ->As for flight performance their both essentially the same. Handle wind equally well and have comparable range. The cameras are the big difference. The mini 3 offers a more advanced system with more options (like portrait, HDR Video and etc). Its a generation step forward but keep in mind if your flying in good sunny conditions it'll be hard to differentiate especially with the compression on most social media websites. The plus of the mini 2SE/4K is its cheaper (batteries, accessories) and the old mavic mini design is better at protecting the camera module from front impacts if you crash nose first.
r/dji • Dji mini 3 or Dji mini 4k ->The Mini 4 is a way better drone in terms of the images you will get. The reason to buy the Neo would be to use it hands free or with your phone (with significant limitations) to avoid needing to take the remote and have a slightly smaller drone in exchange for a much lower image quality.
r/dji • Going on Vacation soon, would it be good to have the DJI neo or should I just stuck to my Mini 4 ? ->DJI mini 4, that would be perfect for you to start with and it's a breeze to learn .
r/drones • Best drone to buy? ->Mini 3 and 4 are brilliant little devices, and are under 249g - if that's a legal requirement for you - Air 3 is heavier and has more restrictions on them (Im in Scotland - i use mini 3 in city's - carefully) get some great shots with it, if your out in the country side alot not near uninvolved participants the Air3 would be the best choice
r/drone_photography • Best drone with camera 2024/2025 ->If you can afford it I'd skip it and do the DJI Mini 4 off the bat. Just way more capability, and you'll be dreaming of one after using a NEO for a bit. I've had a lot of trouble (as an American) getting approvals + insurance to fly in France. Hopefully you will have a better experience than me.
r/drones • Drone for snowboarding ->Sport mode on DJI is nothing like fpv. DJI controller is directly proportional, so you can hold the pitch at full and fly as fast as DJI can, but fpv is rotational, and holding pitch at full will make the drone do the floppy flops. If you want to fly fpv, you need a simulator. This is assuming you use the mini 4, and not the avata/avata 2 with the actual remote controller. But you are right about everything else, like ultra light and less regulations.
r/drones • What is a good beginner drone? Also, what got you into this passion? ->Basic Mini 3 or 4 is all you need.
r/drone_photography • Best drone with camera 2024/2025 ->Mini 4 is the move. If you have a budget, get the RC2 and the fly more with standard batteries (249g) since you're traveling
r/dji • Going on Vacation soon, would it be good to have the DJI neo or should I just stuck to my Mini 4 ? ->For weight reduction any mini lineup yes the 4 is hands down the best at the moment since it has so much software to it and Omni. Yes, it's 1100 for the fly more but worth it for the screen controller. Weight is not an issue you can get the Air 3 with fly more and screen for the same price on DJI specials day or refurbished from DJI.
r/dji • Cheapest & easiest drone for motorcycle. ->Depends on your budget. If you’re using it for social media, marketing purposes, capturing quality content, then the Mini 4 or the DJI Air 3 or 3s will do that for you. The Mini 4 is cheaper & smaller, but doesn’t offer the 3x zoom, camera, and wind resistance capabilities that the Air 3 series offers. I love my DJI Air 3 so I’m biased towards it, but it strictly depends on your budget and how much you’re gonna be using it. Either will get the job done.
r/dji • Do I need a bigger drone for commercial use? ->I fly the mini 4 and just picked up the neo today. It’s been great and super fun. Excited to use it with goggles 3!
r/dji • Going on Vacation soon, would it be good to have the DJI neo or should I just stuck to my Mini 4 ? ->I’d definitely go with the mini 4 myself for the simple fact that it has the sensors all the way around to prevent crashing. Yes a Mavic or Air series would be better but as stated bigger drones come with red tape. I think the mini 4 is rated to handle about 25mph winds btw (sorry I don’t know the metric conversion) but a bunch of YouTubers that given drones to test have had it out in conditions not recommended by DJI and it still flew ok
r/dji • Best Drone to Start? ->Mini 4 is great for 107 ops
r/dji • Do I need a bigger drone for commercial use? ->I just got into drones myself. I bought the DJI mini 4. One thing that’s nice about DJI is that they are programmed to not fly in restricted areas. It takes all the guessing out of it. I first bought the DJI mini three and did not get the insurance. That was a big mistake. I broke the camera Gimble and it was too expensive to repair so I had to get the mini 4. One thing I could suggest is that if you get the mini 4 vs the mini 3, you have more obstacle avoidance, which helps you to avoid crashes.
r/drones • What is a good beginner drone? Also, what got you into this passion? ->Mini 4 pro, air 3 s if you can splurge. Mini 4 is good but doesn’t go too fast. Both have obstacle avoidance so you can do cool flybys. Neo is a toy, FPV is good if you have a pilot with you. If you have money get air but be aware of flight restrictions, if you are quick and stealthily you will be fine. Get mini 4 for allrounder
r/dji • Cheapest & easiest drone for motorcycle. ->It’s not just for noobs who don’t have a drone and are just getting started. The Neo is one of the smallest drones they’ve ever made, it’s FPV capable AND it can be used without a controller or cellphone………so no the Mini 4 isn’t “way better.” Mmmmk? This is coming from someone that owns the best of the best that DJI offers.
r/dji • Going on Vacation soon, would it be good to have the DJI neo or should I just stuck to my Mini 4 ? ->I flew a DJI Mini 2 to the volcano in 2021. National parks and big tourism spots have "no drones" signs, so I avoided flying there or where there were crowds of people. However, there are so many areas in the open country or coast with amazing views and no people that are definitely worth flying. I have hours of amazing footage in these sites, and am so thankful that I brought my drone. I'm returning this year with a Mini 4. If you launch in the back end of a parking lot without any people around and climb to a sufficient elevation, the noise fades away and isn't a bother as long as you dont go too low towards people. Both the Mini 2 and Mini 4 are at 249g, so you can legally bring them into the country and fly without additional permits. As for wind and drone safety. I didn't have any issues with control in the wind, as long as I didn't go too far off the coast. The wind speed and resistance indicator on the drone was enough to fly conservatively and return safely without losing location, signal, or control.
r/VisitingIceland • Flying a drone in Iceland and which model to buy? ->Any of the DJi Mini drones 2, 3, or 4 are what you're looking for. You could probably get a used DJI mini 2 on eBay for pretty cheap nowadays.
r/drones • Drone for dad for Christmas ->I started with a used Mini 2. If I crashed it, I’m not out a lot of money. Once I got comfortable, THEN I spent more money on a Mini 4. I intended on eventually selling the Mini 2, but now I like having both.
r/dji • What is the best beginner drone? ->Skip the neo the mini 4 is wayyyyy better. This is for folks who don’t have a drone and are just getting started and don’t have a big budget.
r/dji • Going on Vacation soon, would it be good to have the DJI neo or should I just stuck to my Mini 4 ? ->It’s way better in every way man. This is coming from someone who owned 2 inspire 2’s and currently have a Mavic 3 and a Mavic 3 pro. The neo has a trash camera… the mini 4 is super small not much bigger than the neo. Mini shoots vertical as well.
r/dji • Going on Vacation soon, would it be good to have the DJI neo or should I just stuck to my Mini 4 ? ->DJI anything is more or less the answer. They have their quirks, but everything else comes with less support and more caveats. If you’re just starting out, a Mini is perfect.
r/drone_photography • Photography lovers, what's the best drone with camera you've used? ->The DJI mini is not worth 300 dollars. You can get a mini 2 SE for 240-280
r/drones • Best drone for 300-400 dollars ->Dude, get a mini . Those cheap drones are dog shit. With DJI you know everything is going to work properly.
r/drones • Has anyone used the Bwine F7 GPS Drones ->Until you've flown a DJI...you haven't flown. Get a Mini. Any generation. That's where you start.
r/drones • is it better to start off with cheap drones? ->They are very easy to fly and so the prop guards shouldn't be an issue. I'd go for at least the mini - if you can stretch to it the Mavic 3 (a used original Mavic 3 isn't massively more than a Mini 4 new). Though also, it sounds like just getting APS-C or even full frame camera and doing it by hand/cheap wire kit might produce even better results.
r/drones • Best drone for low-altitude photography/video of gardens and landscapes ->I ordered the eonvy air plus £159 and it took 2 weeks to arrive from China, It seems to fly ok but I cannot download an App for it so I can connect it to my android phone to view the cameras etc I cannot connect to the drones wifi and cannot find an app for the drone The site is a con been saying only 4 left for over 2 weeks the one touch return does not work or the obstacle avoidance Should have bought a DJi Mini
r/drones • Does somebody have experience with the Eonvy air+ drone? ->Start with a DJI Mini, you won’t regret it
r/drones • is it better to start off with cheap drones? ->I've used both the DJI Mini and Potensic Atom and in terms of flying the thing, it's no different. I have the fly more pack and so far it's been a great experience, but I'd really love to be able to fine tune the controls with an S curve like in DJI. From what I can gather they appear to be collecting user feedback on social media to help fine tune firmware (my opinion) as I think the firmware isn't yet perfect in terms of features etc; but I believe the more people talk about things the more likely they will be added (hopefully). I really like the subject tacking, I'm not sure if they could make it track via GPS as when it loses sight it stops tracking, I'm not sure if DJI is the same though, over all a nice drone and a decent price.
r/drones • Opinion of the Potensic Atom ->Pay attention to weight class restrictions, especially with the mini. Usually standard batteries are fine but when you use the plus batteries it may put you over to a new weight class and require registration, classes and certification. Check your laws, especially if you're making money with the drones.
r/drones • Drone Suggestions for Wildlife Tracking ->The autel will fly similar to a DJI, obviously different UI and features but the overall "hover in place unless the joysticks are moved" will be the same. This is the standard for a lot of enterprise and film drones. You'll also hear the term "fpv" which is going to handle differently, YouTube can help with the difference there more. A DJI Mini can be purchased for around 250 I believe. There is also the DJI drama going on right now... Just a tip for when you're flying, especially if you'll be around structures with the autel, practice checking your moves before you do them. Visually check where you'll be flying the drone and also rotate the drone and check your camera to verify. This will help to not only reduce the chances of hitting anything but hopefully reduce stress too. Have a coworker act as a visual observer for you as well. Most of all have fun learning and check your airspace
r/drones • New part 107 pilot, I really need some recommendations for a cheap training drone (under $250 USD) ->Honestly, to the eyes of the public, the Mavic isn't much more impressive than the mini. If you want to look serious, you need an Inspire or an M300. But that's 500% overkill for OP's use cases.
r/dji • Do I need a bigger drone for commercial use? ->That camera will be really low quality, barely usable, and the range will be very short. And despite all the advertising, it will still be difficult to fly, so he’ll probably end up crashing it pretty quickly. I would recommend getting a really cheap indoor drown he can play around with without a camera you do t have to worry if he crashes, or a more expensive drone like a DJI Neo, which is actually kind of useful but you can’t control, or a DJI Mini which I would suggest supervising while he flies.
r/drones • No-phone drone for a kid ->Your budget would not allow for a camera system with non digital zoom capabilities That said a DJI mini would provide everything else you are looking for. However with a quick google, Canada does require special licensure for flying a drone out side of visual line of sight. Mini's will give you a real time visual of what the drone sees either on the controller directly or on a phone connected to the controller, depending on controller model you get with the drone.
r/drones • Drone Suggestions for Wildlife Tracking ->Second hand DJI minis can be got from that kind of money. The main concern with drones and crashing is when you're low to the ground. IE: Below tree lines. So as long as your not planning on weaving in between trees and buildings drones are fairly straight forward to use.
r/drones • New part 107 pilot, I really need some recommendations for a cheap training drone (under $250 USD) ->DJI mini meets all those points
r/drones • What drone should I get for android phone ->DJI mini "whatever is in the budget".
r/drones • /r/drones Drone Buying Advice Megathread ->I’d pick the Avata 2 for close inspection (within inches), and with head tracking it’s easy to look up under the soffits or down a chimney. I was actually doing this yesterday with the Neo, could get right up to there with on the 3rd floor and look in, bumping not a problem because propeller guards. I looked at a previous valet patch repair closely, saw a couple shingles that are possibly starting to slide. Went up the roof, probably with a clearance of 3”, and after going over the peak went to the chimney and looked down. Bumped another part of the roof and it crashed in the box gutter, but luckily I could take off again. With DJI Care, replacement for the Neo is only $29, so I don’t have to worry much. (Avata would only cost $49, but I’ve already used 2/4, and would prefer to not be without it for a week.) If you don’t want to get close and are okay with being feet away, then a mini is probably okay. Propeller guards might be good for cases where there are nearby trees or cables. Here’s an example of getting close, with head tracking, and being able to look up or down, or turn your head while you fly past - https://youtu.be/D2ygkUlsemQ?si=kswV-c1XyN1lYi-h
r/dji • Best drone to inspect roofs ->Agree with posts , DJI is market leader at this time based on consumer models. After budget then the choice is camera or FPV model. If your budget is huge and camera focused then it’s the full sized mavic or Inspire models, however its more likely you want a 249g or less weight class to maximize convenience so a mini. I would recommend the refurbished DJI units regardless of budget then you can spend the savings on extra batteries and/or DJIcare (insurance replacement).
r/drones • Looking to buy a drone as a birthday gift, please help me! ->
