Get the DJI Neo standalone in a Sale, and if you like it, buy the remote and some spare batteries. You can control it with the DJI app on your smartphone for about 30m in any direction or use the self-flying features of the Neo. The Neo is not a great drone for photography, but the 4K video is good enough for SM. However, for 200€, you won't find a cheaper new drone that is this beginner-friendly. Also, maybe watch some reviews and YouTube videos about drones and save up a bit more to buy a DJI Mini series.

For photos and video shots like those in TV documentary, get a fly more combo of the DJI Mini series - be it a 4k, a 3, a 3 pro, a 4 Pro - you'll get what you pay for. For beginner friendly low flying fpv action, get a Neo Motion Fly More Combo as the Avata 2 Fly More Combo is out of the budget. If he will be spending a lot of time with this new hobby, a real fpv drone might be the way to go. But prepare him to spend some hours with simulators before he takes off.

They're a camera company who makes drones. And they're good drones, for cinematography. The Neo is capable of freestyle, but when it comes to freestyle drones I wouldn't rank it as that good, or particularly durable. There are plenty of better options for less money. If you haven't flown acro before id recommend you start with a whoop like the air65.its fairly cheap and lightweight enough that crashing doesn't pose that much of a risk. But if you're willing to spend the money the dji neo will hold your hand with angle mode while you learn how to fly acro. Just be careful not to crash it. Drones like the nazgul or air65 are pretty easy to repair, dji drones not so much.

Go with it, got the neo motion combo. The kids love to fly with it. Had a mine se before, it was more difficult for them. The neo is easy to fly with the motion controller.

Go for the neo with motion combo. Had a mini SE. It's way more fun to fly FPV. Yes, it doesn't the obstacle avoidance. But it is light as hell, and the results if crashing are not as high, because of the light weight and the prop guards.

Seems like they dramatically improved the dynamic range compared to the original Neo. That's nice to see.

I'd also say the neo with goggles 3. really cool small drone and is perfect for indoors. The camera footage is not as good as the AVATAS .. and if you get into editing and color correction enhancements Avata records footage in a format that allows that.

Also enjoy the neo fly-more combo. I like how it can kind of get your feet wet in a few different drown piloting styles at a good price point. It has definitely done its job as My first drone because it got me to invest in a mini4 and an avata 2 to give FPV a better shot.

From the specs, yes. But like any given range, it's always over rated. The Hoverair X1 Pro is also rated at 500m with phone over wifi. But in reality (I had one), it's typicall between 150m and 300m. So I'm hoping to see real test for Neo 2. But even 150m is still much better than the first Neo that was like 15m in real tests. 150-250m is enough do so some landscape footage near your. This feature alone makes possible to hike or travel lightweight without a remote controller.

I suspect it's because of the camera changes. On the Neo 1, the gimbal is 1 axis and the cowling around ti sticks out far enough that even if you plow the Neo into a wall, the camera is mostly safe. But the Neo 2 has 2 axis and if you look at the pics, there is much less protection for the camera. TBH, I have the FPV3 and I found flying the Neo in manual mode amazingly painful (although disclosure - I am not a skilled FPV pilot and I have strong suspicions my Neo 1 may have had flight stability issues). It's possible DJI has decided to focus on the Neo 2 as a "consumer" drone and leave the FPV to the Avata... which is fine except that the Avata is way over the 250g weight limit. In fact, my gut suggests that they may be moving the Mini class up over 250g as "low end pro" devices for people who don't mind registering and getting certified, and positioning the Flip and Neo as their sub-250 consumer drones.

I don’t really understand the sentiment, a manufacturer has created an outstanding product with HD 100fps, brilliant penetration and range, and low latency that can integrate into self built quadcopters and that’s somehow a bad thing? There’s then the whoop lite VTX that offers all that for micros (we still have the option to DIY lens mods). I also have the Avata 2/Neo and like this as a travel kit. Personally I run DJI, HDZero, and Analog - each has its place and I’m happy there is the right tool for the job to fit with the design choices of my DIY drones. The availability issue in the US I understand to be policy, there isn’t anything I can’t buy from DJI for next day delivery in the UK. It’s great we have OpenIPC and Walksnail, not my preference just yet as DJI/HDZero/Analog are optimal design decisions for my quad, but who knows in 6-12 months.
