How big is the indoor area where he'll be flying this? The Mobula 7 is a great whoop, but it's a bit big for beginners to fly indoors in most indoor flying venues (unless you have access to a gym or a big auditorium, or something like that). A Mobula 6 might be better for indoors. Otherwise you have a great start. The goggles you've chosen are basically the cheapest that are worth recommending, and they're a decent place to start. If he loves flying fpv he'll likely want a better goggle at some point, and they definitely go up from there. You'll also need batteries and a charger. Look for folded cell batteries with a BT2.0 plug (BetaFPV Lava batteries, NewBee Drone Nitro Nectar Gold, etc), a bunch of different brands sell them, but they're basically all made in the same factory in China. For a charger the Vifly Whoopstor V3 is the gold standard for whoop batteries. Be sure to get the ELRS version of the transmitter, not the CC2500. Also be sure to get batteries for the transmitter, because it doesn't come with batteries. edit: Also, right now the only Pocket transmitter that's available is the clear version. If you're going to wait for the transmitter to come into stock, the Pocket Crush is the same price and when it's back in stock it'll be available in a bunch of colors, if that's something that would appeal to your husband and you can wait.

Search the group this is asked daily, generally you wanna start with a tiny whoop like a mobula 6 or 7, some cheap goggles and a RM pocket, get a controller first and start in the simulators, welcome to the hobby! As for analog and digital I personally find analog is fine but I'm also cheap AF

The dji whoops like mobula8 and pavo20 or darkstar20 doesn't have too much power. They have too much weight. The power ratio is comparable to the analog tinywhoop. If you want to fly close to people, either don't or go for a mobula6 analog.

It depends on the kind of drone he flew. Was it a camera drone, like a DJI? Or was it an FPV drone, with the goggles? They're two completely different experiences. If it was a DJI, they all basically function the same, but a mini4 is probably the best pick for most beginners. If it's FPV, a tiny whoop like a mobula6, meteor65, or a "ready to fly" (RTF) kit like the EMAX tinyhawk bundle. r/FPV r/tinywhoop r/dji

What do you mean taking videos and photos? FPV? Mobula6 or 7. Taking like good quality (1080p+) videos and photos? DJI anything. FPV drones are mostly for recreational flying, cruising, freestyle, racing. Stuff like that. Yeah you can make videos and stuff out of them sure, but the quality won't be there if that's what you're looking for. Cinematic drones, camera drones, or whatever you want to call them that DJI seems to focus on will take much better videos and pictures. TinyWhoops aren't really made for photography or videography though. If you do want something small, like someone else suggested, DJI Neo. DJI Avata 2 if you want to FPV and take decent video/pictures, but it's around 50% bigger.

For a first drone, I would start with mobula 6/7 or air 75. These are small drones you can fly in your backyard or a park. You will get up to speed really fast with them. After that you can buy a 5inch or cinewhoop.
