And I truly feel, if you got either of those, that they’re end game grinders. I waited for YEARS to finally settle on a forte BG and I was SO happy I waited. I got a great deal on the grinder that I *wanted*, and there’s really nowhere that I want to go from here. **edit** End game, meaning for pourover.

pourover • seeking a grinder for pour over (manual o... ->100% to this above. I have had a Forte BG for over 5 years now and originally got it with my Cafelat robot and v60. While it might not be the “best” for espresso it is pretty damn good and have had no issues at all with my shots in the robot when I have it and my current Micra. And Baratzas CS is so amazing.
espresso • Is there a consensus best single dose gri... ->With not a lot of detail to work with I'll say Baratza Vario W+ or its nicer brother Baratza Forte BG. Both use the flat steel burr for filter brew. Don't buy the espresso version with ceramic burr, it's not great for filter brew. They are great for normal consumers (even for coffee geeks). Both have an integrated scale for ease of use, fits a typical 12oz / 340gr coffee bag in hopper for non-single dosing*. Anybody can use the grinder; press the start button then voilà! Perfect dosing without any measuring, water spray, etc. Baratza also sells single dosing hopper if what you're looking for. *It's also a 1L Mason jar of coffee, if you freeze your coffee in a mason jar. The only downside is the noise.... It is noisy. It's also not the new flashy trendy grinder but it's been in production since 2011. But don't change something that isn't broken.
JamesHoffmann • Searching for a new grinder ->I have a Forte BG and don't have any issue with the grinder jamming for filter. I didn't use it enough for espresso to know for sure. I checked and it seems that both grinders (Vario and Forte) use a 130W motor so they should perform identically. The Ode gen 2 has a 140w motor. I think the real difference is in the burr size. Baratza uses 54mm and Ode uses 64mm. I remember my Ode gen 1 with SSP was stopping and restarting quite regularly when grinding for filter.
JamesHoffmann • Searching for a new grinder ->Buy the best grinder you can afford. Used grinders can be a good deal…no seasoning the burrs & lower price. I am a fan of the forte bg or the vario if you swap out the burr carrier. You can get deals on either especially if you are willing to do work. Baratza has all the parts. Research hyper aligning the burrs.
pourover • Electric Grinder Tier List ->K-Ultra will give you better performance, about Electric grinder look for Baratza Forté BG will give you better than you expect. If you prefer single dose look for Timemore Sculptor 078/078S or Ode2.
pourover • Grinder ->Just looking at it, I can see it's got the same internal design as the burr grinder Cuisinart has been making for decades now. It's better than a blade grinder, but it's on the lowest quality rung of electric burr grinders. The cheapest baratza is significantly better.
JamesHoffmann • Cuisinart electric burr grinder ->Yea considering the ode is not meant to even grind for espresso (despite being capable of being adjusted fine enough to do so), I wouldn’t use it in a cafe, the motor *will* burn out. If you have a cafe you really need to use equipment meant for a cafe. The more “budget” cafe grinder in my opinion would be a baratza forte.
