I always enjoy posting that my Baratza Sette 270 has ground coffee like a champ since the day I got it, low retention, a little loud yeah but it grinds for espresso and does filter coffee when it’s not dialed in for my espresso machine. Everyone always tells me online that it’s too loud but I don’t care about that. You can get the Sette 30 with the same burr set for a bit less.

I love my barattza sette 270wi. Absolutely a beast and very precise. Never had an issue with it, grinding every day for past 2 years. Over 3000 shots made with it so far. Thick crema and body for true authentic Italian espresso. https://preview.redd.it/ls106kmigu9g1.jpeg?width=6120&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9fdac9c1290d8841b2333060d7b655ee209d7478

Profitec Go is a solid buy. You need to spend a decent amount of money on a grinder too. I've got a Baratza Sette 270wi which is great for workflow as it grinds into the portafilter and grinds to weight, but it's a bit plasticy and incredibly loud. Would probably get a Niche Zero grinder if I could turn back time.

Baratza Sette 270Wi, I realy love this grinder. 5 years on, and it's still excellent. The scale is a significant plus

I have a few as well. A Fellow Ode with the v2 burrs for pour over and drip. A Baratza Sette with the upgraded fine tuning ring for espresso. A Timemore Chesnut for work and travel.

In cup, Niche Zero is pretty similar, but as others have noted, out of budget, especially with the tariff nonsense rendering them especially unworthy. Baratza Sette 270 is noisy, plasticky, and janky. But excellent support from Baratza and the Etzinger burr gets you better texture and flavor (more clarity, sweetness, dramatically less ashy bitterness). Sometimes on sale just below USD$300. Baratza Encore ESP. Also an Etzinger burr, more liveable than the Sette, perhaps. I mean seriously, the Sette is noisy. Varia VS3 — good when they are good, but I guess QA got wobbly. I had one in a lab for a year, where people abused it 30-40 times a day without a hiccup. But some units were plagued by drifting grind dials which I agree would be infuriating. Stock burrs are decent in cup, maybe slightly cleaner than Niche/JMax. Good body, slow to grind. Excellent build.

Adding onto what everyone else is saying, I would recommend looking second hand. I got a Sette 270 grinder for $100 and a Breville bambino machine for another 100 on offerup yesterday

TL;DR: I have only one grinder that I use acros the range. My Fiorenzato AllGround Sense does a great, consistent grid from pour over to espresso. If I did a lot of French press, I might still need a mortar & pestle. I have a Fiorenzato AllGround Sense which, I believe, is just over the 1K$ US threshold. I've had two Baratza's (ESP and Sette 270wi) that did espresso to my liking at the very edge of their range but the motors both died. I then got a flat burr grinder that ground well with more range for espresso but was still in the price range of the Baratzas (400US or so) I won't name the grinder as I neither wish to defend or debate it but the motor also died. I did some research and bought the AllGround Sense for it's beefy motors and because I now had the taste for flat burrs. I've never used the finer third of the dial as for my beans and tastes, it's fine ... enough. I grind some decaf drip for my wife, do some pour overs for friends and have developed a sense of where the dial needs to be. I suspect that the first time I do a dark French press it may not have a fine enough setting bit that day may never come.

I got the Sette Wi on sale for around 500. It’s loud but fast and has very accurate grind by weight.

Baratza Sette 270. It's SO loud. It does a good job but it's WAY too loud. Would not recommend. Sounds like a jet engine.
