For a different conical, gbw: Etzingeg Etzmax LM Built like a brick to last a lifetime, but not sure how good for dark roast: Philos with 189d burrs, it bests Ceado in grind quality with the 200d for medium roasts

Where some of the ultra high end grinders are awesome, they all have flaws too. I didn’t want the weber as it is too slow and can stall, something I hated on my Ceado (the stalling, that thing is fast). Currently use the Philos and MK e65w, not extreme but a good enough balance with the Micra at about 1:1 costs grinders vs machine. I would have loved an actual dream model like the Sanremo x-one but it doesn’t fit my kitchen and it is a bit of a hard sell at 8k+

Zerno Z1 w/ Micra I use medium & dark roast so got the Mazzer 233 burr set Would choose a different burr set if I used light roast That being said it is the only burr set I have so can’t comment on others. Came from a Ceado E37SD which has much larger burrs But the Zerno vertical burrs do not need a bellow Which is great Does produce more static so RDT is needed. Love the look and small footprint Didn’t get the best grained piece of olive wood 😡

I am selling an E37SD second hand for less than £1000 which served me very well for espresso and pourover for several years. More bang for your £ than any other grinder @£1000 I would think! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/389547259654. If you're properly interested, I'm selling on other platforms without ebay's fees, their link is convenient however! I'd do this and a second hand Gaggia Classic personally for absolutely the best espresso you can muster for around £1000 total. That was my setup for several years but unfortunately I no longer have the Gaggia! As an example, someone selling a classic here for £130 on ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/267585018278

I am going to address your comment on the Mazzer Philos since I haven't seen another comment that addresses it. I have owned a DF64 and (regrettably) a Ceado E37SD (which I was told would be well-beyond my needs and an end-game grinder). Because I am mentally ill, I purchased the Philos and have been using it exclusively for the past 10 months. While it is not *perfect* because I don't think any grinder is, I absolutely love the Philos. It has incredible range and I have used it for pour-over as well (though I am generally more of an espresso guy). I also tend to use medium-to-dark roasts, and I really love it. The reasons I say it is not perfect? I would love the option to dose directly into portafilter and I have not found a way to dose directly into a bottomless portafilter unless I'm going to hold it there with a funnel. Second, I wish that my Weber Blind Shaker sat perfectly in the magnetic housing. It still works, but it rattles a bit, and I consider this an unfair criticism of Mazzer, since the Blind Shaker is a third-party accessory. Other than that, I can tell you that no matter what a brand says, no grinder is zero retention. Philos is low retention, and I actually cleaned mine today after about 3 weeks since the last cleaning. When all was said and done, I got about 3 grams of coffee out after a deep clean. That does not mean I'm losing 3 grams every time I grind, and in fact, I suspect that retention is miniscule per dose. But, there is always going to be retention, especially where there is static. I am not lobbying for you to spend what is almost double your budget on the Philos. I believe mine was $1,000 USD because I got in early in the release. But I do think that, unless you're going to be tinkering a lot with a very wide range of beans or uses, the Philos can be an endgame grinder. I have the E37sd sitting gathering dust in storage. It wasn't a bad grinder, but the workflow for the Philos is so much more enjoyable. My two cents.

We are very happy with our zero retention Ceado.

I will say yes I have a Bodem for drip and French press a Ceado 37 for espresso and a hand grinder for when I'm traveling. Sold my ECM for the Ceado.

I had a couple of their Mini’s and highly highly recommend them to anybody new to prosumer gear since they last forever are very simple to work on and you can find them sometimes for 300 to 400 dollars in great shape. Just look for one that was privately owned. Now I have a CEADO it was supposed to be a big step up to go back to a mazzer, even though I am looking at some higher end grinders these days. I also had one of these in an apartment that we just sold all the contents of. I like the dosing a lot, but it made a big mess. https://thekitchenbarista.com/products/eureka-mignon-specialita-flat-burr-coffee-grinder-chrome
