This. Also, the Notte really isn’t that loud in the first place. I make my americanos first thing in the morning and don’t feel like it’s too loud. I also like how manual it is because I like having complete control of all the variables.

Silenzio has silent technology and a grind timer. Notte is fully manual so you'll need to manually dose your grounds every time. Apart from that they're the same

Think about your workflow first, single dose, timed grinding, gravimetric, manual, etc., and take it from there.  You should also consider that you want from a grinder, clarity for light roast, body for darker roasts, etc. Different grinders (and burrs) excel at different things.  If you don't want to think too much about it, get whatever Eureka Mignon grinder fits your preferred workflow and call it a day.

Niche Zero is the best at this, but as you know, out of your price range. Maybe the answer is saving up a little while longer, or buying used. Any eureka mignon grinder you can find in your price range/preferred workflow would be next best. Check espressocoffeeshop.com/en/ for deals. Despite what you heard, that they have flat burrs has no bearing on this. I just brought back some beans some Palermo and they taste pretty much the same as they did in the caffe with a Eureka mignon zero. It'll take a while to switch back and forth for pourover though. You'll find this on a lot of espresso grinders though - small dials and worm drives are slow, but steady, for making small adjustments when dialing in espresso. Also important is that you buy dark roast coffee, preferably with some robusto mixed in. You won't be able to make Italian style espresso with med-light roast beans...

Hey folks, long time lurker here. Tried to lay it out there as well as possible in the title, but I'm really interested in a new electric grinder. Tldr; * Electric * Hopper * Timed * Common burr size * Filter/pourover and french press * Roughly $600-$1000usd budget. My use case is for virtually exclusively pourover and french press. I actually switch between these two pretty frequently, so that's worth consideration. Because of the multiple people in my home using the grinder, and the volume of coffee that we go through, I'm very much interested in something with a small hopper (200-300g), simple automation, etc. I have no interest in a single dose grinder, and despite there being many extremely high quality options in this range, this becomes very limiting in the modern grinding scene. I'm also not interested in all of the tubular shaped form factors out there, but that's mostly eliminated by avoiding single dose focused options. Budget isn't a massive concern, but I'd like to keep it somewhere in the $600 to $1,000 USD range. It feels like the Eureka Mignon series is really my wheelhouse here but reviews seem pretty mixed. Especially the grind size dial, when I'm expecting to be going between filter and french press often The Mahlkonig x54 is an alternative, too, but seems to struggle in the filter range. What am I overlooking? I'm moving up from an old baratza and would love some new perspectives, but 98% of the reviews I run across are for super purpose built single dose options and those just aren't for me. Feel free to just link me to other posts...Ive tried to do some searching but have little faith in reddit's search quality. Thank you! E: Thanks for everybody's input. I ended up going with the x54. It did seem to have the best combination of things that meet my needs, especially since I'm not going to be single dosing daily. I have a sense that while there are probably slightly better moderate upgrade picks in terms of grind consistency, it's going to be a huge leap over where I'm at today and that overall it will be a good balance for the dollar. It's also nice that it's currently on sale for around $510 USD, which feels like a pretty solid value to feature set. Especially considering that this was $750 a year or two ago.

Awesome, really appreciate that perspective. I think one of the things that might be working in my favor at this point is that my old baratza is so staticky that almost anything is going to feel like an improvement, or at least a parallel move. Between the x54 and the Eureka, I prefer the form factor that the Eureka offers, but everyone pretty much unanimously says grind size dial is a total pain in the butt if you're switching between filter and espresso on a regular basis. I don't expect to use it for espresso at all, but even going between French press and pour over is probably enough movement to feel that pain.

If you want to grind on demand with a hopper, then one of the Eureka Mignons. They are great grinders for someone who goes through a bag of beans at a time. If you like to frequently switch beans and want to single dose, then DF54 or DF64.

No, different grinders serve different origins/roasts, there is no one size fits all grinder. DF and Eureka flat burrs (both of them w/out the clump crusher, generally any flat burr type profile) produce grounds which you can use across light/medium/dark roasted espresso and v60's. That's not to say they don't have their cons, they're less forgiving and your medium/dark roasts won't be as sweet.

I picked the Eureka Mignon partly because it seems like a solid BIFL product. Very easy to take apart and service with nothing but a screwdriver. Made with excellent materials. Priced to compete with grinders 4x the cost. I have no regrets and would not hesitate to recommend it. If you're grinding anything other than espresso, the Filtro line starts at under $300 and is the same as the other models but with slightly smaller burrs (50mm vs 55mm). It has no problem grinding finely, so I would imagine you could get a decent espresso grind from this model too. Also, you can always purchase the larger burrs, install them, and turn it into an espresso grinder.

Glad you’re happy with the smart grinder pro - but I would caution OP with this option; many haven’t been happy with theirs, consistency of grind, uneven shots, breaking down, stalling etc. a home Appliance grinder versus other options that are prosumer grinders. But, I’m super happy you’ve had continued success with yours :) The eureka mignon line is fantastic and will likely be your best bet

I'd go for the Eureka and just single dose into it. They are pretty low retention. When you have some money left in the future buy a single dosing hopper (3rd party one). They are pretty cheap on amazon. I just think you will be the most happy with this one long term because it's higher quality than the rest

Espresso is an expensive hobby so if you want to get into it, make sure your really into coffee. Beginners machines start at 500$ and grinders start at 200$ anything below those price points are not capable of making actual espresso. Beginner setup would look something like this. Bambino plus, paired with DF54, or Eurka mignon grinder. You of course can spend more, but that's just an example of the most "budget friendly" setup. Because it only goes up from there lmao.

Eureka Mignon. I would not go cheaper than that ($200-$250 for an espresso grinder). edit: reasons to go with Eureka: you get a consistent grind. easy to clean, easy to disassemble, easy to replace parts and replacement parts are available. reasons to go no less than $200-$250 for any grinder: below that you just won’t get a consistent grind which will be frustrating as you learn to make espresso and ultimately cost you a lot of money in beans. for brewing coffee it doesn’t matter but for espresso it really does.
