I own 5. I have a. Vario W+. A Eureka ORO XL. 1Zpresso JX pro, Outin Fino and a Cera +. I do most things with the ORO which single doses and with the Argo wheel will move between Espresso and everything else very easily, reliably and accurately. I do hand grind for my flair FP3 with the JX pro because it’s set up for that. At work I use the Outin Fino for everything from Outin Nano to Aeropress, Clever and V60. I bought the ORO new and it has been bullet proof for almost 5 years. It replaced the Vario, which is in my basement. I have been drinking home espresso since 2003ish. I do upgrade but it’s pretty intentional and functionally driven. I’m on my 5th machine (Lelit Victoria bought new 5 years ago) and it is perfect for my use case. The ORO was some serious coin, but it is pretty amazing. Low retention (almost zero with rdt) and infinitely adjustable with the Argo wheel. I grind V60 at 60 and Yirgachaffe for espresso at 6. It returns to the setting. I am interested in the Mahlkoenig X64 SD. I love their grinders. If the ORO ever breaks, it’ll be on my short list.
2 electric and 2 hand grinders. Fellow Ode gen 2 for anything non-espresso, and Eureka Mignon Oro XL for espresso. Hand grinders 1zpresso JX pro and Comandante C40. The C40 was a gift from my parents for helping dad decide what to get for his new post-retirement coffee interest. I sometimes use hand grinder at home when making coffee just for me, to see how conical compares with flat burr of the Ode.
Def. At this price point it’s never gonna be quiet. I remember my 17yo Baratza Vario well. The extra $ for the Mignon Silenzio is probably worth it but these well-made grinders just keep going and going. By the time I upgraded I just went up a step to the Eureka Oro XL which I don’t regret
Do you mean the hopper? You wouldn’t want that to be glass, trust me. The price is pretty much the burrs. I have one of these grinders and the build quality is very solid. The way you can justify it is you use it multiple times a day, and that’s just what it costs for a 65mm flat burr grinder. There are some slightly cheaper Chinese ones you can get, but that’s pretty much just what they cost. If you want to know why you would want a flat burr grinder: consistency, and flavour. The more consistent your grind, the easier it is to dial in your coffee. Things like fines (basically really small particles in your grounds), can drastically change the speed in which your coffee flows.
I’m really happy with my Eureka Oro XL, which I bought for $800 four years ago. With inflation and tariffs, I’m not positive it’s under $1,000, but it has to be close. Anyway, excellent anti-clumping/ static minimization, and it is very consistent with timed doses.
I have a Eureka Mignon Oro XL and a Fellow Ode (Gen 1 with gen 2 burrs). I currently use the XL as a single dose espresso grinder and the ode for filter coffee (pourover and clever dripper). However, I'm selling my espresso machine and will just need one grinder for pourover and a high end batch brewer (probably a ratio8). Should I keep the Eureka and use it for filter coffee? I'm not sure I'll enjoy the workflow. Should I stick to the Ode? Or should I sell both grinders and get something else? If yes, what?
I bought a Quick Mill Andreja and a Eureka Oro Mignon. I have no complaints and do not use either one well enough to upgrade anytime soon.
Not overkill at all. I have a moccamaster KGBV and a eureka chronos for drip coffee and a eureka mignon oro and bellezza Francesca leva for espresso and flat whites. Drip first thing in the morning and espresso and related drinks the rest of the day.
