Currently using a Femobook A2 and for something so cheap I'm massively surprised by it. I paid £66 on Ali Express and I love it. Is it the best grinder out there? Of course not. But for the money it's fantastic. It's a slow grinder, but that doesn't bother me in the least. I use a Flair Neo Flex and the two pair brilliantly well IMHO. Had been using a Kingrinder K4, which I also loved. But advised to stop hand grinding by my GP due to golfers/tennis elbow.
I just bought the A2 and used it for the first time this morning. Actually this was my first time delving into making "good" coffee. Got a Hario switch and beans from a great local roaster. It was pretty damn great. One question I haven't been able to run down is the zero-ing process. Turning to clockwise to tighten, it turns about 10 or so clicks past zero before it gets fully closed. So when I'm counting my clicks to do a pour over grind, should I do 50-ish from the number zero, or from the fully closed position? Also, is there any logic to the numbers being 4 clicks apart instead of...like 5 or 10??
I had pretty similar parameters as you and will be about 150 under budget. Keep in mind the adaptor releases soon, so I'm speculating on the quality, but I have no reason to doubt it will be anything but good. Femobrook A2, Fused Visions Pietro adaptor with stand and the Pietro M burrs. You'll have a portable and elite grinder all in one.
My advice would be never buy a cheap grinder if you use it for espresso. Sure the logic may be "But its only 3000rs", but it will grind terrible coffee, break after 6-12 months and be shit for your workflow. Rather wait a bit or invest more into something that will be great and give you proper grind consistency, and last for 10-15 years with proper maintenence. My suggestions for espresso would be, in the lower cost bracket: \- Timemore C3 ESP PRO ($100) \- Timemore Whirly electric grinder ($150) \- Femobook A2 electric grinder ($99)
I recently gifted a Femobook A2 to family, i tried it - it's super good for the money. The burrs are very similar tasting to my Comandante C40 Mk4.
The tiny A2 powers through beans that the EG1 can't handle 😂. It's going to blow up in this sub in the very near future...
I have a Femobook A2. It’s a great little grinder, and an absolute steal at the price.
It has a 38mm heptagonal burr, so its flavor profile is similar to other grinders that share this basic and ubiquitous burr design. I own several grinders with heptagonal burrs, including a K-Ultra, K6, Phantox Pro, Normcore V3 38mm, Cafesing Grizz G1, and NewlukPro M7 Pro. Of these, I feel that the Femobook A2 is closest to the K6 in terms of taste and grind quality. The K6 has a little more clarity and separation of flavors, but the two are really close IMHO. I suspect that the A2 is essentially a motorized Q Manual or Q Air with much larger capacity, but I don’t own either of those grinders to perform a direct comparison. The grind quality is very consistent, which I believe is due in part to the low and constant 60 rpm grind speed. Static is a bit of an issue because of the plastic body, but it’s a reasonable compromise for the price point. The internal construction is metal. It has an internal grind adjustment dial, which I don’t mind, but other people may not prefer. It has outstanding battery life, and is rechargeable via USB-C. The batteries are standard 18650 Li-ion batteries that are user-replaceable. It’s an absolute steal at the $99 USD price direct from Femobook, or $109 from Amazon if you are in the US.
I’ve made both pourover and batch brew with it. I’ve taken it on a couple road trips as well. I’ve got quite a few grinders, both manual and electric. I definitely have way more than I need, and way more than what is probably reasonable. I just like to try out new toys!😂🤪 I suppose I can try to justify it by being able to offer personal input on different grinders when people want recommendations. But at the end of the day, I have a bunch of grinders because I like new toys and it’s cheaper than indulging in my former audio equipment, video equipment, and PC gaming hobbies! 🤪 I don’t live in the high-end grinder world, though! Gotta keep it somewhat responsible to my finances! 😆
I think it's because it occupies a certain niche where most coffee enthusiasts would not consider getting one. They either have a full-on countertop electric grinder, or a hand grinder. The Femobook A2 also suffers from the lack of attention--they're tweeners, so to speak. The Whirly 01S is a nice little grinder. The only thing I don't like about it is the fact that the battery is not user-replaceable. The Femobook A2 has twice the battery capacity of the Whirly 01S, and the batteries are user-replaceable (it uses standard li-ion batteries). I have both the Whirly 01S and the Femobook A2.
They are very comparable. If forced to pick one, I choose the Femobook A2 for the battery capacity and the fact that the batteries are user-replaceable, as it uses standard 18650 li-ion batteries. It's also less expensive than the Whirly 01S. They both perform excellently in terms of grind quality. The catch cup of the Whirly 01S does hold a bit more than the A2, but the A2 still comfortably handles 30g. They both make delicious coffee. In fact, I'm enjoying a cup that I made in my office with the Whirly 01S! 😊
[Femobook A2, $87.20 (Black Friday sale on Amazon)](https://www.amazon.com/Femobook-Portable-Electric-Cordless-Rechargeable/dp/B0F28JRPDR/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=UU922A6POPMH&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.gZWemNGph8K0HFG47_dKPf4ddAE7H6KYbbQfBB09noI.ufhTggkglSPIM_igQD9AAljkZmgPbQi_dgyejenb8nk&dib_tag=se&keywords=femobook+a2&qid=1764033487&sprefix=Femob%2Caps%2C141&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1) is what you want since you expressed an interest in motorizing the K6. I own both the A2 and the K6, and the A2 is every bit as good as the K6 in terms of grind quality. It has slightly more bean capacity than the K6. And it’s motorized! USB-C rechargeable, and battery capacity is plentiful. For pourover and French press, you will go weeks before needing a recharge. It uses standard 18650 Li-ion batteries that are user-replaceable.
Up to you, of course. First of all, the A2 is a compact battery-powered grinder, hardly larger than a manual grinder. More expensive electric grinders are larger countertop models. I recommend the A2 based on my personal experience—again, I own an A2 and a K6. I also own quite a few other grinders—including a 1Zpresso K-Ultra and J-Manual, a Millab M01, Mavo Phantox Pro and Wizard, Kingrinder P0, Normcore V2 and V3, a CafeSing Grizz G1, a NewlukPro M7Pro, a Shardor 64 w/ Ode Gen 2 burrs installed, a Timemore Whirly 01S, a Femobook A4, KitchenAid KCG8433, a MOKKOM grind by weight conical grinder, and Capresso Infinity. All this is to say that I have quite a bit of personal experience with grinders, both manual and electric. Femobook is an excellent manufacturer—they make the A4Z, which is considered one of the best pourover grinders one can own regardless of price. The K6 is the most popular hand grinder, and is the one that is always recommended in the $100. It’s a very good grinder. But because of its popularity, the K6 is actually a bit overrated IMHO. Going by reputation, one would think that the K6 is the greatest thing since sliced bread. In reality, it’s just an excellent $100 hand grinder—there are better grinders, and grinders that equal its performance. In my experience and humble opinion, the Femobook A2 is the K6’s equal in performance. You don’t see the A2 recommended as much because it occupies a niche as a compact battery-powered grinder. Most enthusiasts will either opt for a manual grinder or a larger countertop electric. The A2 is a tweener, so to speak. It also \*should\* get more recognition as a best bang-for-the-buck grinder, and I expect that it will as time goes by. in the end, it’s your money. And I’m just a dude on Reddit who owns too many grinders.
I would get the Femobook A2 over the Nutti OX. Or the Timemore Whirly 01S if you prefer a more rounded profile. The A2 is the best choice for portable battery-powered grinders, however. It has the best battery life and capacity, and the li-ion batteries are user-replaceable. It also has the best price, $99 on Femobook’s website, and $109 on Amazon. Can expect it to go on sale for Black Friday on Amazon for 20% off. FWIW, I own both the A2 and the Whirly 01S.
I’ve not timed it, but I would say somewhere around 50-60 seconds. The A2 grinds at a constant 60 rpm, which is on the slower end of typical hand grinder speeds. The burr is also smaller than the K-Ultra burr.
The Millab E01 will suit you better vs the Whirly 01S. Although I would recommend the Femobook A2 over either one, unless you want the all metal construction of the Millab E01.
Neither fellow ode nor ek43 are the min or max. The real min/max are femobook A2 or M98V.
Femobook a2 is the cheapest but decent quality electric grinder that you can get. Except it's very slow. M98V is the flagship brew grinder from monolith. They design everything inhouse and test each unit. You could potentially get better with eg1 with ulf burrs or lagom 01 with SSP lab sweet or brew burr, but less guarantee on the alignment. At the end of the day all 3 are end game machines and the difference will be minimal and barely noticeable for most coffees, unless you compare side by side.
Yes, but it's extremely slow for espresso, like 2min grind time
Yes, femobook A2 is about the explode for pourover considering it's price point. The perfect travel grinder that anyone can use as well.
You can take a Femobook A2 and put it inside a cabinet while it grinds for 2 minutes for your espresso.
You don’t need the ESP version of the Encore if you’re just brewing filter coffee. The regular version will do fine. Since you’re doing batch brew frequently, I wouldn’t get a hand grinder unless you just enjoy it. I make a pot of drip coffee on workdays for my wife and I, and I do pourover and spro on the weekends, and occasionally I will use a hand grinder, but to grind 75g of beans, I have to reload 3x. I like it, but if you’re like most people and time is your most valuable commodity, you’re going to want an electric grinder. I use an Ode Gen 1 that I bought on sale a couple of years ago for $159. That would be a great option if you can find one. The Gen 2 also goes on sale from time to time. The 64mm burrs munch through 75g of beans like nothing. Takes about 10-15 seconds. These are very common on the used market, so maybe you could look around on Facebook marketplace, etc, for one that someone is selling. A DF54 would also be a great option at around $230. FemobooK A2, as someone suggested above, makes great rechargeable option at $99, and will rival or beat the grinders I mentioned above in cup quality. However, you would have to reload it a few times for large batch brews. And it’s not very fast. That’s not as much of an issue, though, since it’s electric. It will also grind a LOT of coffee (like, enough for 80 pourovers) in between charges. I think it’s an outstanding value. Just depends if you’re willing to live with the fact that it would take a bit longer to grind for batch brew.
Yep, came here to advocate for the A2 when I saw their post. Good recc
Yes, very similar to 1Zpresso Q. No surprise there, as Femobook is also Taiwanese, has or had employees who also work at 1Zpresso, and the two companies may actually have an official or unofficial association (it’s murky). u/Decent-Improvement23 has one and says it’s as good as his Kingrinder K6. Here’s a good video where it’s taken apart and analyzed. https://youtu.be/-GTWlgaDy9s?si=OZLZrqEiWbzuZ82F
Femobook A2 or one of the Timemore Millab rechargeable grinders is going to be perfect for her.

Femobook A2 is a great electrified option at this price point also. $99, heptagonal burrs that are very similar to 1Zpresso Q, and rechargeable. Espresso-capable, also.
