As a slayer owner, I’m still using a 15 year old mahlkonig k30 with 64mm lab sweets that I got a bunch of years ago for 300 bucks. The retention is garbage but the flavor is great, so I will only upgrade for the perfect grinder with very renowned burrs for flavor. Right now I regularly get very bright fruity flavors that I’ve never gotten from a shop… so I’m afraid to buy another grinder and hate the taste of the burrs. I’ve tried the Ozik and I loved the taste. At this point it’s Ozik or keep using my grinder. I wanted a Nautilus but I got to try it with SSP HU and was let down.

I have a 10 year old Vario W with new steel burrs. I’m very happy with the grind quality for auto and pourover.

I've got nearly the exact same situation. Spotted a Mahlkonig Vario second hand for 50 (!!) euros only stating that the burrs needed to be replaced (and the right slider was missing the plastic handle thingy, only a slight inconvenience). When it arrived, I had a look at the burrs and they look just fine. I think the seller mistook the flat parts on the outer edges as wear... Gave it a very thorough, much needed cleaning (including roasted moth removal), also being very surprised by how much coffee was able to escape the grinding chamber and cover every internal part of the machine. Now, only 10 hours after delivery and after some calibration and alignment, it seems to be working perfectly fine. I'll be curious too see how the calibration will hold up; the 2mm hex screw did seem awfully easy to turn, could imagine it maybe shaking loose over time. Maybe adding some teflon tape would solve this. Has anyone ever had that problem?

I have the Mahlkonig and am extremely happy with the results, if you’re looking for recommendations.
