Yeah, the x54 is a great grinder for espresso! If you haven't yet, suggest you check if the burrs are aligned, especially for espresso griding. Enjoy the journey making espresso. There are many fun things to try with espresso such as pre-infusion, turbo shots, RDT, WDT, paper filters, profiling, different cup filters, etc... Have fun!
espresso • Help me choose a flat burr grinder ->I have the 78s, kopi deva and fellow ode v1 with v2 burrs. I rarely use the 78s as it leans more towards traditional taste profile, in my opinion. - I would recommend kopi deva & mahlkonig x54 for either espresso or pour over, fellow ode for pour over
espresso • Help me choose a flat burr grinder ->Thank you for the reply! I actually went for the Mahlkönig x54! 😍 It is so easy to use, fast, reliable, beautiful in white next to my Lelit Mara X. Easy to clean and has many settings I haven't even gone through😀
espresso • Help me choose a flat burr grinder ->At the shop I work at, we use the x54 for our batch brews and it works pretty well. It is pretty staticcy though which we counter by using rdt, but if you’re wanting to fill the hopper you wouldn’t be able to do so should be taken into consideration
pourover • Grinder Recommendations? Electric, Hopper... ->The x54 has a dial issue swapping between espresso and filter too (unless that’s the grinder you were talking about lol) where it sticks and you have to run the grinder to make any substantial changes, however between the larger filter sizes I’ve never had that problem. Only switching drastically
pourover • Grinder Recommendations? Electric, Hopper... ->100% yeah. I’ve never had a problem switching between the coarser dials for customers who want a bag ground
pourover • Grinder Recommendations? Electric, Hopper... ->Honestly you don’t need GBW for home use, most quality timed grinders can be almost as accurate and you won’t be spending 100+ of dollars for this feature. I have tested the Eureka Specialita and XL, Malkonig X54 and they can all put out a pretty accurate dose once dialed in. The dose usually comes out within .1-.3g of my target. And that is easily within the margin of error of most other GBW grinders. But if you had to get one I’d go with the Eureka Libra as the feature only adds $150 to the grinder over the Specialita. Keep an eye out on eBay, and the returned/refurbished section of the retailers. They get listed semi often for a pretty steep discount.
espresso • Best grind by weight grinders for espresso ->I am very happy with my x54 and we mostly do filter coffee during the week. I would recommend it. (Additionally I cannot complain for the espresso and I can even do Greek coffee.)
pourover • Best filter focused grinder for $500ish ->I use the Mahlkonig x54 for espresso, love the flavor that comes out of it, but it also retains lot if you single dose it; wouldn’t fully recommend it. I would recommend any of the Timemore 064s/078s.
espresso • Long Term Fellow Opus Review ->Everyone recommends the Ode. I think they are a useless grinder personally. I bought the Gen 2. It looks beautiful, it is fun to use, but you have no control over grind size. The steps between each setting are too big. For that reason alone I had to get rid of mine and take a loss. I bought a Mahlkonig x54 and also use a ZP6 for travel. Couldn’t be happier. Edit - Lol, I knew this would be downvoted. For anyone reading this with a budget of $€£500 I would suggest that you look into other options than Fellow Ode 2. I have way more control when dialing in, which I didnt have with the Ode and my coffee has significantly improved. There is far too much hype over this grinder
pourover • Recommended Pourover Grinder for $500 ->The mahlkonigs will last a lifetime, but definitely go with what you like. I think functionality is more important honestly. Also, go with digital micron measurement. It’s the future.
roasting • Grinder for commercial use? ->
