Seconded! I recently dove into espresso, but I've been using my hand grinder for pour over for almost four years now. I got an electric grinder (Turin SK40) that has virtually identical burrs to my hand grinder (Commandante C40) mostly for the stepless adjustment and faster grind time... which really only matters when I'm dialing in. When applied to pour over, the amount of fines generated by the electric grinder is incredibly noticeable even at comparable grind settings. My pour times were all off, visibly more fines. I tried to use the electric grinder for pourover for a few days before going back to the hand grinder. It's hard to beat the clarity of a hand grinder that's inherently low rpm... and the fines generated by the electric grinder actually suit my preferences for espresso. To echo u/antisocialbinger, few grinders can do both well. If you truly can only pick one... ask yourself which method you're going to opt for more frequently and choose based on that. Ideally, you could have both, also for your sanity so you're not constantly calibrating the burrs between cups.

I second this. You should definitely consider the SK40. Folks claim that there is a discernable different between flavor profiles of conical vs flat burrs. But unless if you have a develop pallet you probably won't notice the difference especially if you're not going to be comparing them back to back. Add the SK40 to the list.

Turin sk40 (sold mine) but it was an awesome little grinder even found under $200. It blows the other cheap options out of the water in that price range. Opus, encore etc aren’t even close to workflow of that little conical.

Don’t buy an opus or a baratza esp both stink compared to a Turin sk40 if you want it for espresso. Or honestly works for pour over too but with the worm gear it takes a while to spin back and forth. Otherwise it’s such a capable little grinder with super fine grind adjustments for espresso. I think it’s like $179 on the Turin website or espresso outlet their distributor.

DF54 or the Sk40 / Mii coffee 40. Anything else cheap isn't worth considering and I really mean it. These ones are just much better than the alternatives.

I got the the SK40 when it came out and love it, but the df54 wasn't available at the time. I already have an Ode Gen 2 flat burr for pour over and since my espresso preference is medium to dark, the SK40 is well suited for that. At this point in time I'd go with the df54.

I got the Turin SK40 for christmas and it has been super capable so far, even a little too capable as the espresso settings have been grinding too fine. It’s a solid grinder and pretty cheap as well, I think it’s $189 right now.
