I've got an SK40 that I've had for a couple years, you can get an open box one for $140 or $150 right now https://www.turingrinders.com/products/open-box-turin%E2%84%A2-sk40%E2%84%A2-single-dose-stepless-grinder-1 It makes some excellent espresso grind for my Bambino Plus

Hibrew h10A is very solid entry machine ($219 in Amazon) and the Turin SK40 grinder ($200) not as easy to use in the beginning but once you understand it it’s an amazing grinder

There aren't many electric grinders in your price range. The Turin SD40S and SK40 are narrower than the Encore, otherwise about the same size. The Femobook A2 is much smaller. That one is battery powered, but don't reject it out of hand; it reviews very well. The canonical svelte and cute electric grinder is the Lagom Mini, but that's outside your budget. There are excellent hand grinders in your price range that take up no counter space at all. There are also some more-or-less no-name Chinese electric grinders within your budget, but all are espresso-focussed as far as I know.

I totally skimmed over the fact that the OP has a Virtuoso. OP, you really won't get your money's worth in terms of improvement in the cup if you drink only medium to dark roasts. Honestly, an Ode Gen 2 or Timemore 078 would be a bit of a waste, and neither company has Baratza's reputation for reliability and service. Your Virtuoso might just need a bit of TLC. Or you could just get one of the grinders I recommended. If you are really itching to spend some dough, maybe order the new [Lagom Casa](https://www.option-o.com/shop/p/lagom-casa?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22282491509&gbraid=0AAAAArBqeyLITcQFGPZ35mGhGSVsTsA-d&gclid=Cj0KCQjwndHEBhDVARIsAGh0g3DQBDbUkpnQb8lkTIRxKLOIv2jvhqr-kqRp0bPOqXwZnOn45dBSWs4aAhFqEALw_wcB) or [Femobook A68](https://femobook.myshopify.com/products/a68-electric-coffee-grinder).

If you drink only medium to dark roasts, you don't need to spend anywhere near $1,000. Just get a Baratza Encore ESP, SK-40, or KitchenAid KCG8433 and call it a day. Use the saved money for good coffee.

I think some people also use hand grinders and they are cheaper than anything motorized. So like kingrinder k6. I use a turin sk40 (its motorized and same company that sells the df grinders). I really like it. It's around 200. I also have a kingrinder k6 for pour over and French press or anything non espresso related. I don't like messing with the sk40 once my espresso is dialed in.

I just started using a Turin SK40 and I really like it. Price is under 190. As good as machines 2-3 times as expensive. I gave up a commercial Rossi RR45 for it. A beautiful machine that is just too large for my newest set up.

I’ve asked for advice before on which grinder to get and was not sure if the Niche Zero or the Lagom Casa would be better for me. Now we have the added tariff wrinkle which adds cost to some/many grinders. I’ve been told that the niche is better for bolder mouthfeel and the lagom is better for clarity. Is there a grinder that has a balance between the two as I’m not really sure which I prefer or it can depend on which beans I am using at the time? I would also lean toward a device that’s easier to maintain, currently have a more entry level sk40 which is a breeze to maintain and also has stepless. So I’m looking for: something under 1k • simple to maintain • stepless preferable, a bonus if you can switch between pour over and espresso fairly easily but not a major requirement • best trade-off between bold and clarity • single dose Thanks in advance.

I reread this today. I have a Turin sk40 which is perfectly fine TBH. Is a niche zero a waste or will it improve my output for americanos?

Turin SK40. Got it for $200 when they announced it summer of 2023. Chose this because it was one of the first high quality stepless adjustable grinders under $300. Does both espresso and pourover reasonably well. With smaller size beans @ an espresso grind, I need to feed it with a spoon (rather than just dumping in 20g at a time) to prevent stalls. Stock, it makes a mess. I put a 54 dosing funnel into the collector cup to act as a funnel which completely resolved the issue. No plans to upgrade. Edit: If buying new today, I would have likely gone with the DF54.
