Great value for espresso, but clogs and poor for pour-over.

You say you go deep on new hobbies. I wouldn’t be surprised if at some point you want to get in to espresso. I was in the same boat with having no interest in espresso…then got a good deal on a used machine and had to buy a new grinder. I settled on Lagom Casa to handle pour over, espresso, and anything else. I’ve been happy with it for everything and would recommend it.
+1 for Lagom casa
I recently picked up the Lagom Casa for pour over and espresso. It is conical burrs not flat, but is quite good. I found it a good middle ground for a one grinder solution that has a lot of nice to haves and not much compromise
I upgraded from an Encore to the Lagom Casa and have been very happy. I decided on it after being in a somewhat similar situation to what you describe. It’s significantly nicer than that Encore but still on the more adorable end of dual purpose grinders
Oops meant affordable but truthfully I was also looking for a grinder that was cleaner and I just hate the look of bellows on a grinder and hate doing bellows. No bellows on the Casa and it’s very clean so in that sense it is adorable
The lagom casa use conical burrs, which is better suited to darker roasts. If youre a dark roast kind of person then great! If youre tend toward light roasts you may want to look at flat burr grinders. I believe flat burrs are also supposed to be better for espresso texture. If youre going to use the grinder for both pour over and espresso… theres another rabbit hole for you 😅
I disagree, and its more complex than just flat vs conical, but in order to scaffold the knowledge the stereotypes are accurate for someone that is new to the information. A conical burr wont give more body to a Gesha, and a flar butt wont make a delicate french roast, those qualities are inherent to the beans and for this example in opposition to the outcome. The Lagom Casa does use a Mizen burr geared for medium to light roasts and their site mentions that they focused on clarity and balance when developing the burrs. That said, they left out any mention of body: https://www.option-o.com/lagom-casa I agree that its nuanced, and OP should read an article like: https://www.coffeeness.de/en/conical-vs-flat-burr-grinders/ Personally i started with a conical burr (Breville - SGP) and upgraded to flat burr shortly after getting an espresso machine and noticed a significant difference in the texture and clarity Edit: your moms a flar butt. I said what i said.
Please read my follow up comment where I say exactly that part about the spectrum, and take into context someone that is new to espresso (OP) 🙃
Would add Lagom Casa to the list. Fantastic home espresso grinder!
Lagom Casa or DF54 with SSP burrs
The Casa is much better for medium to light roast. The workflow is also better imo because of the auto off and no RDT. Niche zero is better for darker roast beans and fuller body. It comes down to what you prefer. Clarity or body
I’m happy with my Lagom Casa 65mm. It’s simple to change between the settings and I like how it performs with both specialty coffee pour over and my La Pavoni with more traditional espresso roast. I would buy it again.
