you would need both Cornical and Flat eventually, bot nothing can be compared to E55Pro-
I just got a starseeker e55 pro and it’s been nice. Grinds are very consistent and fluffy. With RDT it has basically zero retention. Also very quiet.
I’ve had one for a couple months. It’s been great. Dark and medium roasts only so far but no complaints. Cleaned out thoroughly after the first while and had like .5g total built up inside, which is nothing.
I have the Starseeker E55, it's fantastic for the money, I only paid $280 AUD though.
Loved it but got the Edge63 for fun. Isn't much better than the E55 the E55 was that good
Beginner here also, and I just finished my first set up. This is what I got in case it helps. I bought a Gemilai Ele g3028a and a Starseeker E55Pro conical burr grinder. It's been working great so far. I got them all new, and all-in I'm at about $800. The Ele is on sale on the Gemilai website right now for a spring sale for $639, and I bought the Starseeker on Aliexpress from the Starseeker official storefront on Ali for $180. You can get it directly from Amazon or Starseeker website for a little more than that if you want it faster. The Ali one I ordered took about a month to arrive. I'm loving this setup a lot so far and both the machine and grinder are working great.
I just got this one for about $175 after tax during a sale a few months ago. It's been rocking, but a it's giving me a bit of static. Do y'all recommend spritzing the coffee with water with the titanium burrs?
I also Started with handgrinder (timemore C3 esp pro) but now moved to low Cost Starseeker E55 (not the new "pro", where they substitute some high value metal parts with plastic). For me it produces same quality espresso as my handgrinder and I am happy that I took the risk that I ordered such relatively high cost item on AE.
Im using the Starseeker E55 pro, about 240usd. Consistent grinds, wide grind size range, not too noisy, small footprint and looks great. Really impressed with it.
The Shardor 64mm often comes recommended here at that price point. It's not available in the EU under that name I think (and buying from Amazon US gives you the 120V problem), but this is essentially the same device: [https://frekko.nl/en/products/avx-cg301](https://frekko.nl/en/products/avx-cg301) Personally I have the Starseeker E55 Pro, which can be obtained from AliExpress for around 170 euros if you use a discount. It's conical, though, vs flat burrs on the Shardor.
Another vote for the Starseeker E55 Pro. A tank that produces a fluffy grind and has zero retention. I mainly use my Eureka, but I grab the Starseeker whenever I want to try a different bean or grind setting because if its zero retention.
Yep, my Mignon is also quiet. I've found that much of the sound it does produce, is through motor's resonance with my kitchen cabinets, which then act as speakers of sorts. If I lift it up, it's really quiet as far as grinders can be (that is with hopper lid and bean valve closed, which makes a difference). Sound is low-pitched too. Note: I don't actually lift up the grinder in daily use 😆 I also happen to have an E55 Pro and while it's not exactly loud, it does produce a relatively high-pitched noise compared to my Eureka (my gf finds it annoying, but doesn't mind the Eureka). Other than that, great grinder!
I have a Starseeker E55 Pro that's cheap, produces a good grind and has practically no retention (do use RDT though). I use it whenever I want to experiment with a different bean and don't feel like purging a few grams on my Eureka.
The E55 Pro is good (I have one) and can be had for quite cheap (on sale today) from AliExpress if you combine cashback + discounts + payment option discounts, but if you don't want to single dose... then don't get it 😆 However, hopper grinders are most of the times really not built to have low retention specifically, so you'll most likely always have some stale coffee in there.
