r/espressoExperience with the Timemore Bricks 01S for Espresso? Reliability, Grind Consistency, Build Quality? [€290]

It's awesome, looks nice, has really low retention and coffee tastes great. I don't get it how others say it doesn't grind fine enough for espresso, I'm at level 2 for 1:2 espresso and there is still so much clicks below that.

Timemore Bricks 1S for $169. Was looking for upgrade from my basic Delonghi elctric grinder, looking between DF54 and this. DF54 is almost double the price in my country due to tax and hype lol so tried timemore and no regret so far. Great build quality (all metal), smooth sound, and lots of adjustment. I only make lattes tho

Timemore Bricks 01s. Currently 299 euros from their European distributor. I have one and I love it, I prefer it to my Eureka Mignon Manuale. https: //timemore [eu.com/collections/electric-coffee-grinder](http://eu.com/collections/electric-coffee-grinder)/products/timemore-bricks-01s-electric-coffee-grinder?variant=50028600099063 Remove the spaces to regain the URL Maybe I am actually allowed to post a URL... I bought it 6 months ago. If you want to use it mainly for Espresso, I suggest you opt for other grinders that can produce finer grounds. I like the design, build quality, very compact. The details like the rotary knocker & magnetic for the dosing cup like in Sculptor078 are nice addition. However it produces rather coarse grind for Espresso even in 0 setting. I asked the distributor (I live in Jakarta) if I can tweak it by adding shims like I did with my Baratza Sette 270Wi. They said no, so the only option adding the dose. With some beans, I even added up to >22 g still with very fast flow rate, under 18 s.

r/mokapotWhy are grinders so expensive and how much of a difference does it make in your brew?

Burr grinders are expensive because they are engineered to fine tolerances. The game is changing though with the new generation of single dose grinders. I recently bought a Timemore Bricks. It is solidly made and easy to use and at the cheaper end if the market. I became a bit lazy buying preground dark roast Italian blends. If that suits your plate then fine. And in James Hoffman's recent video that noted the quick deterioration of coffee flavours, his tests on consumers showed they didn't really notice at all. I have started using single origin beans from various African collections. Grinding to order, I can identify each roast has different characteristics and it makes coffee much mote interesting than the flat, muddied flavours of preground. So, yes, grinding to order is worth it.

I’ve used the Bricks 01S for a few months — for home espresso it’s surprisingly consistent at fine settings, adjustment stays put and shots were stable once dialed in. Build feels mostly solid but it’s not industrial grade, expect a bit more retention than prosumer grinders and possible burr wear after heavy use, still good value for €290 if you don’t need café-level throughput.

I’m too lazy to read all of that so I’ll respond to your title. I got a Timemore espresso grinder for around your price that I’m happy with.

r/espressoGrinder that works best with Med/dark roast, but has the ability to also work well with the occasional light and drip coffee sub 750 (or close enough to it) [$750]

The most important thing you need to decide is of you want a conical grinder or a flat burr grinder.  They will taste different. Conical grinders like the Niche are great for getting full bodied espresso.  Flat burr grinders can give you more flavor clarity if you want to do the occasional light roast (they are also good for traditional espresso but maybe a little harder to dial in than the Niche). Among the flat burrs the DFs work great but quality control is apparently hit or miss. My df64 gen 1 was definitely in the "hit" category and has been bullet proof, but I did buy upgraded ssp mp burrs both to accentuate clarity and to make sure they will do a burr alignment before shipping it out.  If you don't want to play that lotto something like the Time More might be better.
