I had a DF64E. It was able to grind but the consistency was really difficult for me to deal with, especially since I usually brew two different beans every day.

I grabbed a DF64 for espresso and a Fellow Ode for pour over. TBH, having dedicated grinders really saves the hassle of dialing things in every time you swap brew methods (and less cross-contamination of leftover grinds).

Man I just saw this comment but I said the same thing. The DF64 is great, but for OP the 54 is in his budget and pretty much the same as the 64. I heard mainly it takes a few seconds longer than the df64 since the burrs are smaller so they can grind less coffee at any given time.

My first real espresso grinder is arriving today. Df64, $400ish. I couldn’t justify spending more since I’m also a tea drinker and tend to spend half the year drinking tea instead of coffee.

I have a 64v with dlc I will have to respectfully disagree. You can get some super bright high clarity/ tea like brews on low rpm, and does espresso no problem. It’s been my daily driver for 5 years. Only issue I have with it is switching over to espresso from pour over requires a quick 5 min brushing. But at the end of the day it’s always better to have dedicated grinder for both.

I have a 64v and it will do both quite nicely. Make sure you get the dlc burrs they are a huge step up from the stock italmills. You do need to brush out the grind chamber if you plan to switch from pour over to espresso. It does retain some grinds. I would definitely recommend it for either, but hold onto your encore for espresso.

DF64 all day long! I’ve got one of the interactions of the first interactions of the first version. Perhaps the 3rd enhancement. I upgraded the burrs because it only cost $350 about 4-years ago plus burrs taking it up to $499. IT WORKS GREAT!!!! From my experience I would buy one again if I were to buy a new one. I works great so I’m not motivated to change.

I have a df 64 and although i have upgraded my espresso grinder, i still use the df64 for drip. It’s a very good piece for the money. It works well enough and produces a fairly good consistent grind.

tons 😁 Yes it has, but it matters only at the moment you switch beans and you fix it by grinding 2 grams after the switch that you discard. No big deal, unlike the spray of powder that arises from the DF64 due to static

r/espressoAny opinions on Eureka grinders? The range is so confusing that I can't pick a grinder that would suit me
5 months ago

I have Mignon Specialita and it's OK, but if I had the knowledge that I have now when I bought my first grinder, I'd buy DF64. Now I'm eyeing a DF83V as an upgrade, but I'm currently out of money... The things that piss me off the most are: \- Freaking small adjustment wheel. You only touch it and the grind size difference is huge. (can be modded if you have 3d printer) \- Has dumb burr size. They have their specific diameter and specific hole spacing so you can't buy different burrs then form Eureka. \- Struggles with lighter roasts (my burrs are almost touching almost every time I try to dial in any light roast) \- kinda high retention if you don't tilt your grinder with 3d printed base and don't slap it few times after grinding.
