***DF83V - £699*** (with 10% discount) It's the bang for buck champ at end-game level specs/ features. Has all you need + scope for burr upgrades (which I did, to SSP MP after 6 months). The only significant feature it doesn't have is blind burrs (but they're less impactful with larger burrs). Year and a half later and I have zero upgrade itch.

Is it with the mp? I also have the DF83v with ssps. I wonder what rpm do you like to run it with?

My DF83v3 does both, well, every week.

You guys may have different zero points set. What do you have the dial set to at burr lock? I have a DF83v3 and set burr lock to about -2, which puts the chirp right about zero.

r/espresso • Good beginner setup?[buying advice needed less than $800] ->

I bought a DF83V with SSP Silver Knight burrs after I dislocated my shoulder. I've been very happy with it. Even after rehab, I haven't gone back to my C40. With the Niche Zero, could you switch out the burrs to a more pourover oriented set?

The two sources for Errors and Omissions is design (materials, functionality) and assembly line inconsistencies (ie. you might get a "good" one or you might get a "bad" one). You can try to rule out assembly line inconsistencies by returning your unit and getting another (in the hope that it's far less likely to get two "bad" ones). It appears to me that a large number of people are quite happy with their DF54 for producing a great cup of coffee at an affordable price. However, it can also be true that the lowest priced units in a category may be just too inexpensive to do a good, consistent job for a long period of ownership. If you feel that your DF54 is just too entry-level, with compromises in design or quality, then "yes" you can climb above this by spending more money. People make the mistake of thinking that a "company brand" is any kind of reliable metric for quality. In fact, in most large enterprises with many products, produced by various teams, it is the project that carries the reliable measure of quality. Ford makes some great cars, and they also make some stinkers. Same with Toyota or Apple. I had good luck with my Eureka Mignon Silenzio. It is well made and performed well. After I replaced it with my new DF83V, it now does pour-over duty for my wife. I expect it to live on for a long time. As someone else noted, there were a lot of new grinders shown off this year at the Milan Household show (I think in the $500 to $700 USD range) so you might want to see what comes available soon. I quite like a vertical burr arrangement. Miicoffee makes two: CF64V and DF83V, which are both of all-metal construction (I think the CF64V has a plastic hopper) with good "plasma-generator" to eliminate static (I don't have any static, and I wouldn't use RDT). Both of these seem to step up the design quality from the most inexpensive models (ie. "projects") and get great reviews. I don't think I"d touch a Varia V3 (too many horror stories) but the VS6 looks really interesting. Also the Timemore 064s often goes on sale (hey, Black Friday is almost upon us!) and has a following.
