I just bought a Apollo go. That’s a great scooter for $400.
I also just bought a go and it’s great. Much better on the hills than my old g30lp. And the lighting at night is superb.
Honestly for NYC commuting I'd lean towards the Apollo Go over the G2 just because of that weight difference you mentioned. Carrying a heavy scooter on the subway or up apartment stairs gets old real fast, and if you're already used to no suspension the Go won't feel like a downgrade
I would just stick to something easy like the Apollo go, 34 miles of range and 28mph gets you a little extra than you were looking for while still not being a crazy fast hyper-scooter.
Also have a go, love it. Trusty scooter.
Between those models, its a no brainer. Get the apollo go or the explore. I personally always lean towards dual motors, which the explore does not have even though its not a slouch. If your hill isnt that steep, im sure the expore will handle it just fine. You have to have a very powerful motor for a single motor scooter to get up a hill, but its possible. The go will hit 28mph (45.10km/h), the explore 25 (40.2km/h) That said, id pick the GO in your situation. Higher top speed, very reliable.
Exciting!!! Show us pics when you receive it! Pro tip for the apollo go: The tires are only 9 inches and very quickly lose PSI. Make sure you have a really good tire gauge (I recommend the JACO elite pro, VERY accurate) You will need to check the tires frequently and make sure its at or slightly above 50psi or flats will happen way more often. You will most likely also need one of these valve extenders to properly reach the valve stem. Saving you time, been through this with the GO already. haha [https://www.walmart.com/ip/Slime-Metal-Valve-Extenders-1-1-4-2045w/31970528?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Slime-Metal-Valve-Extenders-1-1-4-2045w/31970528?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0)
Apollo Go, its still 799 directly from Apollo. I thought it was a BF sale but they keep on listing it at that price. If its shorter commute you can't beat its dual motor capability, ease of lifting, good size for bringing thru doors, elevators. Its apollo's most reliable scooter.
I had a G2 and sold it for the GO. I did not like lifting the G2 into my Car, the weight felt so uneven it was all the back to me. I sprained my back lifting it into the CRV once doing so. I moved on the Go and its easier. Weight is even can even lift with one arm for a short distance. GO is more fun than the G2. More agile, more sporty, faster, go up hills better. Firm suspension G2 is more stable, confidence inspiring. Maybe the better commuter overall due to this. Depends on your preference overall. One is like a VW GTI the other is a Toyota Camry.
I had the G2 and sold it for the Go. Even though the G2 is only 4 pds heavier than the Go it felt like more. The weight felt uneven and was all at the back to me. I did not like at all lifting that into the car. the Go is much better from weight feel to width it takes up. The G2 is more stable and confident inspiring because it has bigger tires and its lower to the ground.
GO seems to be the best built, I don't think there is a report of a stem breaking. Its very unique in the scooter world. There is a 2026 version of it, if you can wait for that. Probably bigger battery but that will be more weight.
I do not door dash, but i do travel to pick up fast food with my scooters. I bought a food delivery bag/backpack...carries 4 drinks, 4 pizzas. You need 2 motors, 5000W+ for taking hills at 30+. You need dual suspension and model that takes a steering dampener, mirrors because anybody movement with backload is super dangerous. Get an offroad scooter for taking shortcuts. I have 3 foldable scooters: an apollo go, a niu kick, and a Reddydy RD2. I use the rd2 in single motor mode most of the time and get around 50 miles per charge. Another thing to note, is that I wish this one had a regen break, very good for hilly areas.
I have no experience on the Segway but I have personally loved my go that I've had for nearly a year now only major issue as far as defector build goes was that I had an intermittently connecting communication cable and I simply found that it had been pulled inside the handle a little bit too much and the wire was kinked so I just straightened it out added a little bit of extra support with electrical tape works like a charm. The portability at least for someone like me who oftentimes need to take a lift and wants and needs to take it into the store with me because I live in Oakland and screw the idea of walking it up and expecting to see it when I come out has just been absolutely priceless and he's for itself in a way. I've quite never literally never been limited from putting it into a truck or taking it with me in any kind of car not once. Able to walk up and down multiple flights of stairs with it. And it gets me to work and back plus a little extra with my lights on and going over two hills on the fastest setting. I've come to determine that pretty much anything within a 5-mile radius to where I live I can actually get to faster on my scooter than most cars just because of stoplights traffic etc sometimes I completely smoke them. It's actually really funny when I see how far back a car that was right next to me ends up being stuck behind multiple lights like six blocks behind me at some points 😅
Got an Apollo Go for LA commute. I do 13 miles each way. Ludo mode on the quick streets. I've gotten up to 26 mph. Sport mode on the bike trails sometimes slowing to Comfort mode if there's a lot of foot traffic. Had a screw go through one tire but I replaced it pretty easily and the gel worked well enough to get me home. Currently around 900 miles on it. It's small enough to fit with me on the Metro. Weight is light enough for me to carry up stairs. Dual motor is great on the inclines, can go 18mph up a pretty steep grade than I've witnessed single motors struggle on. Availability of parts of the Go is good. I don't commute at night. It rarely rains. Do I have any issues currently? No. Choice depends on what your use case is.
