I was also considering the Segway F series and NIU KQi before finally deciding the same as you, that the G3 Max was a more logical choice in terms of my money. I don’t care as much about an app . I only want a product that I can fold, charge, and ride without causing me any trouble. How long have you had your scooter? Have you seen any battery capacity loss so far? I am thinking that the LG cells will age better than the ones without a brand in the super cheap scooters, but I’m curious to hear someone else’s first hand experience.
I have the G3 Max and I am very happy with it. Despite the brand not having the same reputation as Segway or NIU like you said, I feel like the quality is about the same, and it saved me a lot of money. I've only had it for a couple of months, but I haven't noticed any issues with the battery life.
I bought a Gotrax G3 Max recently as a cheap commuter scooter, so I thought I would share some thoughts in case someone is deciding between this, Segway, or NIU. My daily commute is very typical of a city, mostly flat roads but the pavement is a bit rough. The battery was the main thing I was concerned with. The G3 Max has an LG battery pack which, to be honest, made me more comfortable than a complete mystery of unbranded cells. The range that is given is of course optimistic, but what I am getting is quite enough to comfortably do my daily rides without a single charging trip. That is really all I need for a scooter in this price range. The other large factor for me was the price. Here, the G3 Max was significantly cheaper than the Segway and NIU commuter models that have similar speed and range. Segway and NIU definitely look and feel a bit more “premium” and their apps are nicer, but when I focus on what I care about the most for commuting – reasonable speed, good enough range, and a battery that can be trusted – the extra money for those brands didn’t make sense for my use case. The G3 Max is good enough at everything I need it to be without destroying my budget.. Riding wise, it is exactly as a commuting scooter should be. The top speed is good for bike lanes and city streets, the 10-inch tires help a little to smooth over the cracks and bumps, and it folds without any hassle so I can bring it in the elevator and park it near my desk. It is not some ultra-powerful scooter, but it can go up small hills with my weight without any problems and I don’t get the feeling that the scooter will stop halfway up. The thing that I personally like the most about it is the trio of the LG battery, the reasonable range, and the price with respect to the similar Segway and NIU models. It feels like you are getting the basic components well done without being charged extra just for the brand name. It is very much a “get me from A to B every day without any drama” type of scooter. Cons: the design is a little basic, the riding comfort is just average, and the brand obviously does not have the same reputation as Segway or NIU. But given the price I paid, it doesn’t really bother me. Is anyone else using a G3 Max for commuting? If so, I’d like to know how far you can really get and how your battery is after a few months of daily use. :)
Thats pretty light - you can use just about anything with a 350W + motor Probably your best deals are segway F series or Gotrax G Series
I used to ride a GOTRAX commuter scooter every day, and the biggest problem was how fast everything started rattling and getting loose. The folding mechanism got wobbly pretty quick, and the ride just got rougher and rougher the more I used it. For like casual weekend rides it's totally fine, but for actually commuting on it daily? It didn't hold up nearly as well as I was hoping. The cheap price is why people go for them, but the tradeoff is you end up spending way more time fixing stuff than you really want to !!!
Honestly, a lightweight used regular old bike. Second would be a lighter e-scooter. I had a POS over priced go tracks that was way top heavy.. But it made it the mile to my bus more enjoyable. Bought it during covid, but even with the higher prices and less choices, I got 1,000 miles out of it. Had to carry to the second story for over a year..
Extremely cheap and "higher quality" do not got together here...but for 2.5 miles if you spend $500 you will be all set. Avoid the parts bin temu/amazon crap. It will not last. NIU or ninebot or navee. Either one will be fine for a rather short ride. My job is 6 miles away. At one point I had a go trax and I could get there in like 18 min....i do not recommend go trax though. You best bet is one the "N" brands.
